We are too quick to ditch demonised diesel engines in favour of heavy, energy intensive batteries. We need to develop alternatives to fossils like #HVO from waste whilst H2 infrastructure remains poor. We must encourage better aerodynamics, lower frontal areas, lower unsprung weights, longevity of design and avoid the trend towards #vehicleobesity We can add electrical preheating to reduce start up emissions by 70% eg: #defa

Neste yes I agree, I am pro anything that reduces consumption and emissions. EVs and H2 options are developing well for future vehicles but I think neste could do more in Europe and the UK. The bad press over the vw scandal is colouring people's opinions and politicians are making decisions based on hearsay and on inaccurate information. Pollution is national and international weather dependant not just street level from power generation and space heating as well as transport. The advantage of hvo from waste is energy density and operability with existing diesel engines and in aviation. But if people ditch diesel engines when they buy or lease new vehicles we will see a rise in overall pollution. Already figures for the UK show new car CO2 has risen 16% as people switch back to fossil petrol and PHEVS. NOx levels from petrol engines rises with wear especially after 50,000 miles and very few have particulate traps or anything to control NH3. DEFRA found in 2014 that 50% of urban NOx in the UK was from PETROL euro 1-3 cars.
