So the median and max stay the same after we eliminate the small outlier?

Thanks for the super cool explanation!! What is the purpose of each box. For example smaller box and large box and the box enclosing these two box. TIA (:

Great question. It helps us understand how the data is distributed visually. If you’ve worked with the bell curve before, they’re related. Each section of the box and whisker plot holds 25% of the data. So the big box holds 50% of the data. Hope that helps!

Why you multiply with 16 to 1.5

    • @midnightmathtutor3597

So it has been determined that anything more than 1.5x away from quartile 1 and 3 is considered an outlier. It has to do with standard deviations, etc. This article explains it better than I ever could...towardsdatascience.com/why-1-5-in-iqr-method-of-outlier-detection-5d07fdc82097
      Fantastic question btw!

you multiply 16 by 150% which would give you an outlier that is outside de 100% data created by the box and whiskers. Each part of the box is 25% that is where the word quartile comes from. All parts of the box and whiskers will add to 100%.
