A tough word for the church today and me personally. I’ve been in that place of compromise, but through Hid great grace and the nudging of the Holy Spirit, I have nothing to hide. Oh, church, may we have nothing to hide from! Be real before Him! He is a gracious God…He just wants our heart. Fully!
@12:32 HONESTY! Women of the church prayed for me when this happened a few weeks ago. They went straight to prayer. They understood and prayed for my marriage right there!
I ran across Acts 4 and 5 yesterday, and it troubled me greatly. After a lot of thought and reading on the internet, I had reached a lot of the same conclusions you presented here, that they had lied to / abused the Holy Spirit, and about the image aspect. But I still couldn't shake the feeling or suspicion that their deaths were inflicted supernaturally - not that they were overcome with guilt and had heart attacks from that. I might have been able to think that if this had only happened to Ananias, but Peter, knowing this was the result and even had his men bury Ananias out in the yard, he seemed to do the same thing with Sapphira, telling her his men have just finished burying her husband outside and here they come for you, knowing that the confrontation was going to supernaturally kill her too. I guess I can imagine Peter leaving it to God and the Holy Spirit, and just doing the confronting rather than just letting it go, but he had to know what awaited Sapphira, given that he basically said the grave diggers are done with your husband and now they're here for you too. And you're right, it is only natural for the reader to then wonder why God doesn't just switch people off like that now. Jim and Tammy Faye Baker come to mind. They constantly pretended to be in the Holy Spirit, then get people to strip their bank accounts. Copeland too. Why aren't they confronted and switched off? I'm not trying to be harsh, or even necessarily criticizing God (although I'm aware I'm practically there with this). I am just alarmed by this striking down of two people, one right after the other, and trying to think critically about God's direct wrath in this case. Your sermon helped me to at least understand the overall effect God produced on the church as a whole - thank you! I only found you this morning by doing a video search for Acts 5. I'm impressed, and subscribed.
Wow amazingly explained i was just scrolling through tiktok and i saw that we can go blind about thinking there is something wrong in eye and our nervous system will try to make it right which will accur blind i was so scared that i will go blind then i go and grab the bible to read and i open the books of acts and chapter 5 the husband and wife death really make me think why did they die so i just came up in this video so well explained i love it
I was studying this passage and thank you for putting it in perspective for me … I guess the deception was the thing that had him killed , but isn’t death such a cruel punishment for lying? Lying about what belongs to you anyway
It was meant to set a strong precedent against fraud within the church and undeserved claims of righteousness. It's perhaps analogous to the modern day concept of "stolen valor," where regular men impersonate decorated military veterans in order to get attention, respect, and financial gain. And the thing they lied about no longer belonged to them, in that they gave it to the church and pretended to donate all of it; so essentially they "stole back" the portion of money they had withheld. This would not have been the case if they were honest from the beginning, yet they decided to both lie and cheat/steal, purely for their own personal gain (which also revealed the priorities of their hearts and the limits of their faith).
Thank you for the message. I agreed you have brought out the many causes such as dishonesty, greet, pride could have possibly contributed to Ananias and Sapphire's dead. However such are sins that Jesus have taken on the cross and shouldn't be judged right away. First of all I believe it is a warning to us, if not people would be dropping dead after. And secondly what sin that they have committed was beyond forgiveness which mentioned in the Hebrews 6 and 10? Thirdly, the phase "Satan has entered your heart" was used just as Jesus told Judas Iscariot to go do quickly then Satan entered into him, and also after the snake have talked to Eve before eating the forbidden fruit. I am not sure if you are with me so far... What I am trying to say is Ananias and Sapphire had sinned wilfully (mentioned in Her 10) by planning and not falling into sin. Same as Judas Iscariot and I believe Adam and Eve too. However Jesus' sacrifices redeemed everyone's sin by Adam and Eve which included Ananias and Sapphire and Judas Iscariot too. But the problem is when Ananias and Sapphire and Judas Iscariot went back to eat the forbidden fruit again, there was no more sin sacrifices left for them since they used their shares. And lastly.. How did Ananias and Sapphire and Judas Iscariot recommitted that wilful sin? I believe it is to love the world, to love money or the things of the world. So the forbidden fruit is the world! Shalom..
