Dame Maggie Smith was such a perfect casting for this role, literally how I imagined her, strong, formidable, slightly scary but with such a warm heart.
The part of the last scene when the statues jump from their position onto the floor never fails to make me cry, no matter how many times I've seen it. And if the sound has good bass, here come the waterworks.
One of my favorite witches in the series, she has the best lines too. I especially like when in the book version of The Order of The Phoenix she said “Have a biscuit, Potter”
One thing I never seen talked about is in the movies, Mcgonagall is the first one to put up her wand when Dumbledore died. They were inseperable! And it shows how much love she had for Dumbledore. She even didnt fight against Snape until Harry confronted him on killing Dumbledore!
The casting in these movies is the best I've ever seen. No other single film has more actors who were "born to play the role" than the Harry Potter movies. There's Daniel Radcliffe, Maggie Smith, Imelda Staunton (Dolores Umbridge), Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange), Richard Harris (original Dumbledore) and the list continues. The first movie came out in 2001 and I do believe it had a strong impact in film/TV that followed in terms of casting. There was a shift away from the 80s-90s trend of just casting Barbie dolls in every role to casting more "artistic" faces, Picasso paintings that serve the visual artistry of the film every bit as much as the set design or lighting do. The British have always been more careful about casting and I think Harry Potter helped bring that to America.
Professor McGonagall had so many delicious banter scenes in Order of The Phonenix when she faced off with Umbridge. I would have loved to see her tell off Umbridge for interrupting her lecture with her girlish cough. Or to hear her condescending remarks at Umbridge of her opinion on Harry’s future career. There were so many great scenes that were left out of the book that never made it on screen. Professor McGonagall deserved more screen time, than what she was served.
Her presence is important in a sense that we need a witch in HP!!! Not a warrior like harmoine, not a friend like Ginny but a witch, a very plain (?) appearance but we know once she showed up, she’s the witch.

McGonagall and Cho to each other: "You're not the only one who lost her trio mates!" 😔 Cho: "First I lost Cedric, then I lost Colin!" 😔 McGonagall: "First I lost Dumbledore, then I lost Snape!" 😔
McGonagall is the teacher you grow to appreciate, especially after you graduate because all she wants for you is for you to succeed. She's only tough so that way, if you put forth the work, both you and her can feel like you earned the grade you got.
Little did we know that when she said "I've always wanted to use that spell" she actually just meant any spell at all because these movies really underutilised her
I will never forgive the filmmakers for not showing the fight scene between Voldemort and her, Kingsley and slughorn in the end of book 7. I mean that alone showed how powerful she was. She dueled Voldemort and DID NOT die!
You know this makes me realise how little we get to see her do magic and how awesome it is when she does. Kinda makes me wish each book was a season long tv series instead :D :D
@@mavielki97 I would’ve liked to see that but I don’t think it was great for the movie as Harry had only used crucio against Bellatrix after serious died and that was a long movie anyways
Professor McGonagall is a real motherly figure for Harry who had lost his mother much to soon. I am also a great fan of Dame Maggie Smith. Next to her role in the Harry Potter Films is the role of the housekeeper in the Secret Garden (1990s version). There she also shows motherly qualities.
As a tranfiguration expert but throughout the whole movie the best transform she can do is the water goblet. It really needs more to show how powerful she is.

Ron:😱that was bloody brilliant professor
The way she said that she wanted to use that spell was so adorable. I love her. 💚
with the statues, Minerva McGonagall starred in one of the most epic scenes in the saga
Rest in peace to our kingdom McGonagall ❤️🔥🕊️
Ella es definitivamente mi personaje favorito. En los libros y en las películas también. Estrictany dura la mayor parte del tiempo pero con un sentido maternal cuando se requiere. Sin dudas uno de los personajes más interesantes de la saga de Harry Potter
Love her posh Scottish accent.
マクゴナガル先生の本気が見れて嬉しいです笑

Just came to know a few days back that Maggie smith was awarded the title “Dame” by queen elizabeth in 1990…what a brilliant personality and acting…
McGonagall and Cho to each other: "You're not the only one who lost her trio mates!" 😔
Cho: "First I lost Cedric, then I lost Colin!" 😔
McGonagall: "First I lost Dumbledore, then I lost Snape!" 😔
McGonagall is the teacher you grow to appreciate, especially after you graduate because all she wants for you is for you to succeed. She's only tough so that way, if you put forth the work, both you and her can feel like you earned the grade you got.
RIP Maggie Smith
SHE'S GOT A POINT , SHE'S AN ICON , SHE'S A LEGEND , SHE IS THE MOMENT . NOW COME ON NOW .
Hermione Granger will be like McGonagall when she gets old😎
She's so brave, smart and wise 😍 I love her 💛💛
The way she dueling with Professor Snape is so jaw dropping
Little did we know that when she said "I've always wanted to use that spell" she actually just meant any spell at all because these movies really underutilised her
The last scene was so wholesome
I will never forgive the filmmakers for not showing the fight scene between Voldemort and her, Kingsley and slughorn in the end of book 7. I mean that alone showed how powerful she was. She dueled Voldemort and DID NOT die!
You know this makes me realise how little we get to see her do magic and how awesome it is when she does. Kinda makes me wish each book was a season long tv series instead :D :D
You was right, and the hp series is coming (:
the fight between Minerva and severus was the coolest scene I've ever watched~ I watched it again and again
deathly hallows part 2 is when i realize how much of a cool teacher and witch she is! She shout "COWARD" and used the spell she always wanted to use!
So sweet when she say "i´ve always wanted to use that spell."
2 McGonagall scenes they should’ve left in:
When Unbridge and the Aurors try to arrest Hagrid
Kingsley, Slughorn, and McGonagall vs Voldemort
It’s insulting that they didn’t include the last one. And when Harry crucios the carrows
@@mavielki97 I would’ve liked to see that but I don’t think it was great for the movie as Harry had only used crucio against Bellatrix after serious died and that was a long movie anyways
She's so powerful! I love her
2:02 I think this is the best😂
I was crying when she said "do your duty to our school" but then she said that 😂😂
YAAS MCGONNAGAGUSSY 💅
I always wanted to use that spell is the sweetest thing ever, i love it
she's cute saying "I've always wanted to use that spell"
“Hogwarts is threatening”. (Intense music play).
And she be like “I’m happy this is happening “😂😂😂🤧
She's such a badass
She is a majorly under appreciated character. Give her more appreciation
Quite the contrary
Mcgonagall: I've always wanted to use that spell!
Molly: Yeah but I'll never have the chance to disintegrate a death eater.
It would have been so epic if we saw her, slughorn? and kingsley duel against voldemort
The look on his face when Professor Snape thought he would have to fight Professor McGonagall ... breaks my heart...
2:24 love that part 🥺
As a tranfiguration expert but throughout the whole movie the best transform she can do is the water goblet. It really needs more to show how powerful she is.
Hogwarts is about to be destroyed, Harry is trying to find the Horxies, the other students and teachers are ready to fight and protect the school.
