- Hello and thank you for watching the video. I hope this provides some value and insight to the performance capability of these wonderful Sonus Faber Lumina 5 speakers.
We all know and are aware that sound recording online or through devices is NOTHING like the real thing. No recording can capture the truly delicate and detailed resolution of these Lumina 5. The Equipment pairing was stunning.

Good lord, beautiful Sonus Faber's and Loreena McKennitt. Quite possibly the greatest singing voice of all time. What a perfect match. Your responses to a couple comments at the end are priceless too haha.
Thank you! .. I appreciate the feedback on my 'tone' for responding. The idea is to be fair and rational while hopefully inspiring some depth to our pursuit ..
I can't know what I don't know.. right? =)
“Wow” is right. That’s what Sonus Faber speakers do - draw you into the music.
Wow, beautiful sound there! I love this Lumina V.
The Hegel 390 helps.. same with the McIntosch 352..
@@psyphonyxaudio Thanks, see also the reply I just left to a question asked.
I’d say your microphone and recording equipment were the only limiting factors here. What an excellent piece of music to choose as a test track! Love Loreena M!
Yup. Mics on any device ..combined with whatever is on the listening side over there .. colours everything from real. This - we know.
Yes.. Amazing price ..and arguably better deal than anything in a higher tier. I definitely encourage people to demo these.. and experience the expressed opinion for themselves
Sensacional.
Thx for posting 👍
Does this HV the vocal sound of the Electa Amator 3 or maxima Amator? Doesn't sound so on this video. Looking for that older vocal realism of SF now available on the Electa Amator 3 or Maxima Amator. Are there cheaper speakers in the SF lineup that has that older sound not the modern one like in many SF products now. Colored is good if it's your type of colored sound, one likes music that moves not lifeless.
Never compared them... and my ears are not your ears... even if I listened in the same room on the same gear you will own. Sorry.. Its not right to answer subjective experience questions and pretend its accurate.
My only opinion is.. Demo them yourself to be 100% sure. 🙏🙏
@@psyphonyxaudio Thanks. Yes we are all different but even maybe our preferences are different we could distinguish similarities and differences. Where I am SF and other brands not as active so it's UA-cam for now and other reviews...
@Francis de la Cruz ...Agree. If i ever did hear the other models you mentioned I would have offered something while still acknowledging the subjective aspect of the experience.
Alas..I never have heard the Amator or Maxima. My best guess based on opinions of those who have heard more extensively (Jay Lee for example) ... would say they are more classic warmth.. Lumina are tilted up.. exciting.. Sonetto are a touch more refined with different mid/mid-bass tone.. Its said the Electa Amator are even warmer.. (pending the amps you use ..etc..etc)
Hope that helps. 😇🙏🙏🇮🇹🍕
@@psyphonyxaudio Thanks. Audio shows are coming back! Not just in our area yet but hoping things get back to Normal. If the war ends it sure is going to be better for everyone. Hope you get to hear the Amators, it's the colored vintage modernized sound of SF. The voices are sublime, colored but fantastic nevertheless. Just above my price range....
Nice vocals.
What did you hear/experience at that part that you didnt with other speakers that made you go wow?
I really appreciate this question. I don't know that I've ever read someone phrase this concept quite this way ... very welcome inquiry.
Given the Lumina is not a $10k level speaker, I have heard similar performances or better at higher levels, but these were able to reveal information on the tracks / songs that I was surprised by.
Lumina are a touch forward, high-frequncy projects easy and noticeably ( one might say, tilted up top end ) **which I admire in a sound characteristic** ..The Lumina 5, with the Lute shaped internal midrange chamber, paired to the capable DAD tweeter and newly designed crossover... ( jargon aside ) - Very honestly, they sound like magnifying glasses to the information of a recording. They seem to bring in to focus all the subtle details in the mid/top end that I rarely get to hear .. ( paired with the Hegel H390 more so than the McIntosh 325
@@psyphonyxaudio thanks for the very detailed answer! Its kinda rare to get a speaker that is so revealing yet never harsh, maybe its partly due to the 390? Ive yet to hear an amp more analytical than the hegel, there is no hiding any flaws from it. Lol! In your opinion, have you come across any amp that is more revealing and analytical than the 390?
@@AbsoluteFidelity - To be honest, I haven't ever sat in a room with the same speakers and swapped out amps to know for sure that it IS the amp with the difference. Judgements like these are commonly coming from people who are actually talking about amps in different rooms on different gear and speakers with different factors affecting the sound. I honestly don't listen to many people who speak that way of audio - it's void of science fact and therefore comes off like that individual is applying opinion / subjectivity .. not reporting on an unbiased objective analysis data.
That's what I think of that scenario.
@@psyphonyxaudio totally understood! Keep up the good work buddy, look forward to see more vids from you soon!
@@psyphonyxaudio Wow, great question and answer. I was leaning towards getting a Class D (Purifi Eigentakt module) to power these Lumina V's that I have on order. But I was worrying that those will make these sound a bit more bright (not what I care much for). Do you think that will be the case? In which case I might have to start thinking of Class A/B amp...Thanks in advance...
Hello, Would Sonetto V speakers sound better than these Lumina 5 speakers? Thanks.
Thanks for watching.. I believe I've responded via Facebook chat. I appreciate reaching me for this info.
I hope the answer I've provided helps in your decision making process.. ALWAYS good to demo yourself. Every space and room is different and treatment /position can make or break any sound system.
All the best...
💚🤍❤... Gotta love the Italians.
@@psyphonyxaudio Thanks for reaching out. Much appreciated.
I recently was able to compare the Lumina V and Sonetto VIII at a dealer in the same room and same system. All we did was to switch out the speakers. They were being driven with a MICHI X5 integrated amp with 350 wpc. I will tell you, the Lumina V give up very little to the Sonetto VIII, even on big orchestral music(Mahler). I actually preferred the mid range of the Lumina V. The only advantage I could perceive for the Sonetto was a bit greater sense of "scale" to the music. As to the Sonetto V, I can't really say. I suspect that SF has made the Lumina V TOO good and I'm afraid they will soon raise the price on them.
@@marct9587 ...I feel that too. The entire line is truly awesome fir the prices they are set at. Im all ready to adopt the entire line. Lumina 2 on order ... and very seriously looking at these 5s for a 2ch system also. 🙏🙏
How do this speakers compare to Bowers and wilkins 703 or 702 s2.?
I have never A/B listened to those in the same room with the same amps and source. I cannot inteligably make a statement to that question.
You'll have to check the measured frequency responses.. or demo yourself. Sorry I couldn't be of lore help.. but taking people's subjective descriptions only misleads your judgement. I cannot contribute to a 'half-assed' trend circulating audio groups. Around here, its the whole A.S.S or nothing. 🙏🙏
I'd rather not speak of things I have no experience of.
@@psyphonyxaudio jajaja, I get it man.
@@JuanLega ...I will have Lumina 2 next to my BW 606 (whenever the Lumina show up **Shopping delays**)
I think those are more closely related in terms of price... and if you watch the other few reviewers who have spoken on them.. it should be an interesting demo.
Please stay tuned. I have a LOT of things coming.
Toronto Audiofest is this coming weekend.. I'll make a video talking about that soon.
@@psyphonyxaudio sounds good. Make a comparison video if you can.
703 or the 803 can't compare
Lindo, uma delícia sonora.
Which speakers cable and interconnect cable you use?
No idea. I never looked or asked about such things.
The store does sell and use many kinds of cables. So, I do assume they are some variety of the brands offered for sale.
@@psyphonyxaudio maybe you should, to warrant the word Specialist in your channel’s name
@@FearTheBRIX ...Nice one. A bit unoriginal.. but I feel you on that.
A true specialist would have 100% details and provide everything any random person online would ask .. months after the fact. Great perspecive and attitude.
I hope to meet your approval in the future. Thank you for encouraging better effort.
@@psyphonyxaudio I hope I didn’t offend you… in the audiophile world Cables are also taken very very seriously .. for the same reason some cables go for hundreds of thousands a pair… (and I’m betting you know that already)
@@FearTheBRIX ... I totally understand where you are coming from. I respect the care and concern for the details.
I dont, however, need anyone really making Qualifying Statements about what I " should do " to meet the standrds of a word in my channel name...
Or... have an audio fan man-splaining what level of cable interest there are amidst the world. .. The store, if you didnt look, sells Nordost.. The silver ones. They deal audioquest also.
There is a very good reason why I never even bothered looking.. and mostly because of the community bickering about cables.. Imagine.. If I had written anything bout whatever brand.. someone on either end of the debate would STILL come here and say something negative.. Like you have..
In the end.. it seems like even the lack of cble details still triggers cable people.
What’s the name of this song lol never mind it’s popped at the beginning of the video and missed it like a dork fish
Dante's Prayer - Loreena McKiennitt
is this Sonetto III or Sonetto V on the side ??
The title listed on the video is accurate as stated. " LUMINA " is the newest series offered from Sonus Faber.
Please take a look at their webpage and local dealers for a chance to demo.
🙏🙏🙏🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
@@psyphonyxaudio I was not talking about the Lumina playing, but the 2 speakers behind, on the side ;-)
At 2:31 on the left of the screen
@@coyoteproject999 ... My misunderstanding. "Side" wasn't clear to me at first.
I believe those where Sonetto V(5) in Walnut. Good eye.
This is at Audio Excellence Canada (also have a (UA-cam channel)
@@psyphonyxaudio thank you :-)
Why did you upload an air recording of such an unfinished setting?
So people can give me their opinion.
Thank you.
Lumina V vs. Sonetto V 🤔🤔🤔
...Exactly. Id like to A/B demo too.
Maybe I'll go back to do that.
The band balance of the sound is more than the bass, and the female vocals are heavy, it's not refreshing.
.... through a phone mic and played back on whatever device you have.
Yes. Correct. NOT accurate at all. Good observation.
Seems overpriced for what you get. They sound exactly like the speakers in my Macbook Pro.
Not even remotely original or clever.
Try again. 🤣😊👍🏻
😂😂😂😂😂
@@psyphonyxaudiogave it another listen and can’t really tell a difference between these and my iPhone speakers. Sorry to say but I think you got ripped off.
@bigstein098 ... Your attempt at humor was rejected.
I think you shouldn't pursue a comedy career.
@@psyphonyxaudiojokes on you, I’m one of the 250.
Goog grief man! Get rid of those glass doors!
Feel free to call the store and express your statement to them. You may have missed out on the details of this demo ... and speaking that phrase here is utterly useless... BUT I appreciate the view and comment as it does help the algorithm of my channel...
So.. you have my thanks, but they are not my cabinets or glass doors. Call the store. I can bet you a Hegel H390 I know what they will say about your opinion. :-)
