I hope you enjoyed the bloopers at the end 😝 By the way, I’ve put a few extra growing tips in the video description which might help. Feel free to share the video with anyone that might be interested and thanks heaps for watching! 🌱 😊
You honestly must be one of the most patient and organised youtubers! Every time I watch your videos I think about what a job it must be to take all this footage, store it, then sort through it and edit it together for a consistent narrative that sometimes spans months or years! But it pays off; every video is a delight. Thank you for doing what you do!
I honestly told my wife almost this same exact comment while watching this video. Specifically saying how impressive some of the multi year long projects pay off, and must be super satisfying to accomplish.
I am a 17 year old who hardly goes outside and I have never planted anything in my life, somehow I still find your videos very entertaining and I've been subscribed for a few months already lol
This is soothing in a way that only individuals who love plants and are from New Zealand can deliver on. As a Canadian with harsh winters and fleeting hot summers I really want to grow more when I can.
For transplanting anything in the Cucurbit family, it seems that any root disturbance is basically a death sentence, so your newspaper idea is fantastic. Biggest thing is to remember that trying to plant multiple plants in a single container that will require separation upon transplanting will ruin your melon dreams.
I'm in south Louisiana USA. Quick tip if you have a bit too much wet weather or want to allow them to ripen on the vine longer to encourage extra sweetness, rotate the melons on the vine to keep the white / yellow spot on the bottom from turning into rot.
I actually grew watermelons this year and they turned out great! Although I didn’t do the best job because it was my first time planting watermelons, it was really fun and felt very rewarding when I finally harvested and ate them. I had a batch of 6 watermelons. Don’t know what type they were though.
Your channel is the best of two of my favourite things: growing my own food, and (what I consider to be) my second home New Zealand. Thank you so much for your in depth and really inspiring video's!!
Thank you, Kalem, for this awesome video and tips! I just started growing my watermelons, and I didn't know about the splitting🤯. I was worried if I needed to make bigger mounds or not, but now I know they're perfect! Right now, the plants are about the size of my hands. Hopefully I'll get some fruit this year! 🍉
@@TheKiwiGrower I'm from Lahore city Pakistan. I have a question. I'm growing these watermelons in My home garden hence their growing speed is too slow. although I'm giving them all the professional fertilizers but can they grow and survive in Monsoon season or humid temperature or not?
One of these days I'll remember that your growing seasons are flipped compared to here in the US before I start watching a video and not be slightly confused for the first 20 seconds lol. It's a nice change of pace that you collect a whole bunch of footage over the course of growing something for one video rather than making multiple videos over the course of growth. Your channel has a nice laidback calmness, and it's easy to see how much you enjoy growing things and all your animals. I also enjoy getting to see a whole bunch of cool and unique plants being grown that I can't grow due to my climate. Thank you for sharing all this with us :).
Man I'm seriously amazed with all your work and dedication! Whenever I see your channel I miss the good old days when I was younger and helped on my grandpa vineyard back in Germany. Those Watermelons looked amazing and hopefully I can grow some up here in México as the weather is basically summer all year long. Been trying to get some grapes up and running and with the pandemic I finally did since I had the time. Now I'm following your vids for dragonfruit since its a local fruit where I'm living and if the spring/summer is kind, maybe I will try watermelons as well. Thanks for all the info you give us!
Thanks a lot, and that's awesome that you're growing and trying some things out. Great way to use time in lockdown. Good luck with everything you grow :)
In the past month I must have watched all your videos mate !! Now rewatching. Really like how you explain every minutiae and also love what you do!! Thank you Kalem 👏
Deeply interested, indeed you are such a great teacher Sir....i have learned a lot about Horticulture from my Dadd who is now no more...he passed away last year' he really taught me a lot when it comes to Horticulture...trully what am learning from you Sir is very different...i remember on his words he used to say this to me that son what you are learning from me you as a youth you can use any techniq you want to improve this ,cause technology is growing every day...and this are the words that i will never forget in my life, May his soul rest in Peace..he was just a great farmer like you Sir
The smile you give at the end when you eat the watermelons...! 😁 It must feel so incredibly rewarding to (literally) eat the fruits of your labor! The melons looked very tasty.
He could document his journey of reading the phone book and I'd be along for the ride. Such a genuine and calming individual with an innate love of gardening - a very good combination that.
The sound of that knife cutting the Moon and Stars is amazing. I don't do ASMR but yeah. Also it's so nice to see watermelon with black seeds in them -- the only kind my local grocery stores sell is that seedless kind.
I live in Southern California and I planted a yellow watermelon , I am now at the Flower Stage and I see the round watermelons . I am so Excited I can't wait for them to get big and juicy so far so good.
I once met this guy on a site like omegle and had a good talk with him, back then he was working at Auckland Zoo with the primates, a while later I saw him in the news papers for his work there. Such a good dude, so humble!

What a fantastic video dude, as always! Such stunning varieties; cannot get over how beautiful the Moon and Stars are. They look exactly like a Splendid Tree Frog. Once I get a patch large enough I'd absolutely love to grow these myself!! 🍉

You could also pickle the small ones. They are amazing. Look up for a recipe. In my childhood I've had apples, quince fruit, white grapes and unrip plums, all pickled.
Ive just stumbled across your vid's and am a happy camper! They are fantastic. You dont waffle on annoyingly and share good info clearly and succinctly. A breath of fresh aur from many. Love the bloopers at end of this one. Where in nz are you? And thanks for great vids..keep it up.
Those were some interesting melons! I honestly didn't know there were different types of watermelons, I have only seen the standard watermelons in the states. I would love to grow the Moon and Stars they are just so pretty.
Check the online seed shops.... they sell different varieties of watermelons. My favorite is Crimson Sweet because it doesn't have "too" many seeds. I feel Sugar Baby has too many seeds.
Greetings from Florida. I am in love with the moon 🌙 and stars ✨ watermelon 🍉. Absolutely beautiful! Thanks for those ripening tips! I’m giving watermelons a try in my garden this summer.
Thanks for another great video Kalem! Really motivating too! 💪 I always love how positive you are and how much effort and enthusiasm you put into your videos 😊 Just thought I'd let you know, I followed your dragon fruit tutorial recently and now I've got 20+ seedlings! Aloha! Well done and very informative. We are on the Big Island of Hawaii, on the east/wetter side where the rainfall is pretty intense. Did well growing pumpkins but kept the mound under a grow tarp where I could control the water. Hand pollinated most of them. Want to try watermelons next. Haven’t had the yellow variety since I was a kid. Most the melons in our local markets are the smaller round kind; but we should be able to grow larger ones. Glad you mentioned goat manure. We have a couple that produce a steady supply. LOL. Thanks again for the inspiration. I’ll check out some of your other videos as well 😎👍

Great information good tips hope I too have a good grow season this year !
A method I came up with for strawberry
Get a kiddie pool 36"-48" inch make some 1/4" drain holes fill with some good drainage soil and make a mound then plant 3 -4 plants soon you will have tons of runners that root themselves when ready remove and place mature plants as desired in sun location 🌞✌️
