I’ve been out of touch from WiFi and nearly screamed when I saw this on my notifications. Alabama Shakes is seriously the shit, no one that I’ve ever seen compares to them live, aside from Chris Stapleton. Brittany can captivate you in a small bar or hype you up at a festival. I see them anytime they’re close. I’m so glad you guys grooved with them! They’re actually becoming really popular and this type of music is coming back to mainstream for the younger generation. This review made my day! 🙌🏻
She was totally amazing at Bottle Rock 2013. I was sitting about 200 ft away, in a crowd of people, and I'd swear the only two people there were me and her.
How about calling it Southern Soul Rock. Really it is Brittany howling at the world and letting all her emotions out and makes it art. She is the single most impressive new artist that has come along in the last 10 years. She should be a super star and shame on the music business that she isn't.
Great song and great band. I hope you get back to this album soon. I don’t even think this is in their top 5 as far as the album is concerned. I’d recommend gimme all your love or Future People from that same live session.
I totally agree with you about the fashion of the time. This band is genius and Brittany Howard is beyond belief wondrous!!!!!!! Keep playing their stuff! They should be headlining every festival!!!!!
Y'all are right. It's tough for great artists to succeed, however...it has become like a treasure hunt to find amazing artists. I kind of enjoy the search and discover some other great music while I'm digging.
One of my favorite songs of all time. From a (unjustly) slept on, totally below the radar, incredible band and the amazing, multi talented Brittany Howard! Thanks for doing this song. So cool to watch you both hear it for the first time. Really enjoyed this one guys!
Chris Stapleton and Alabama Shakes did a co-headliner concert in Milwaukee Summerfest 2016. Best live music I have ever seen! Sad to say no duets, but they both sang their faces off.
My I’m sooooooo happy you guys reacted to this. Alabama Shakes is one of my favorites. I would say listen to “over my head” from this album too. Brittany is a phenomenal singer/songwriter a definite gem in today’s music climate.
Straight up, I saw her in concert and I was BLOWN AWAY. You think her voice is good in the studio??!! It's WAAAAY better in person! I think I was tearing up man - don't tell nobody 😉
What a pleasant surprise. Found this browsing through your channel. Alabama Shakes is amazing! Hold On is the one that hooked me originally. Def worth a listen!
Joshua Douthat That's ok Joshua Douthat I'm just starting to get back into listening to music seriously again now that I'm disabled , can't work anymore, and I have a lot of time on my hands. Just trying listening to a lot of genres my favorites being Country , Jazz , Funk , and Rock pretty much in that order . Funk should hint at my age 55 , Lol, last of the baby boomer gen. I'm trying Joshua I should get points for that.
Ben Johnson I'm trying , thanks for the heads up. I'm just seriously starting to get back into listening to music again and checking out all these talented young artist I probably have missed . I will grow in my knowledge again as I'm now disabled no thanks to a drunk driver so I have a lot of time on my hands. I'm a old guy 55 but like all different genres always have but my favorites are Country , Funk , Jazz , Rock I know a oddball group of favorites. With the help of you young people I will get a education I'm sure as long as people talk to me with the respect I will show , that's how I was raised and raised my sons.
When I clicked on this one I was thinking it was gonna be that Harlem shake video from a few years back. Never heard of these people, but that shit was good. Lady rocking that SG, loved that riff at the beginning. I liked everything except that first noise that came out of her mouth, I thought we were about to get some nails on a chalk board, but then she crushed it. As always, I got to request some Iced Earth either "A Question of Heaven" or "The Phantom Opera Ghost" Thanks and keep on keepin' on
I'm typically a metalhead but I love the revival of old-school soulful and funky music. If you want some songs to check out that fall into this category I'd check out the below: Rag'n'Bone Man: Human Michael Kiwanuka: Cold Little Heart Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats: S.O.B Capital Cities: Farah Fawcett Hair Tame Impala: The Less I Know The Better The Black Keys: Lonely Boy
I heard “gimme all your love” on tv a few years back, had to Shazam it and bought their album straight away. This is just one of those bands that I think everyone can appreciate no matter what genre you’re in to. Definitely recommend that track, it’s on the same album.
I saw them in Berkeley, CA and they were great. I left being a bigger fan......she was so amazing. Full on. Definitely deserves to be in highest echelon of soul singers.
Do it. I saw them at Bottle Rock 2013. Brittany is the most intense performer I've ever seen. I had gone primarily to see the Black Keys, but the Shakes blew my damn mind.
I am so happy you found this song to review! Shoutout to your followers. I absolutely love Sound & Color. She has this amazing feel to her soulful voice and her ability to capture that is wonderful. I agree, it puts me in awe that Alabama Shakes aren’t bigger than they are because of our generation missing out on this type of music.
The Tedeschi Trucks Band is another one of these quietly great bands. Midnight In Harlem is their best known song but they have several good songs. Harlem is a little slow groove. Love Has Something Else To say (eTown webisode 107) is a great example of the size and talent if the group.
For some reason, they've never taken with me, even when they were solo. Never made sense to me, on paper we're perfect, I do like the occasional track though, like "Do I Look Worried to You?" Got me recently
TTB, Gary Clark Jr., Kingfish, Marcus King, Alabama Shakes; these guys all fall under great bands (artists) i cant wait to see take off. Clark is maybe the closest to it.
That was a very groovy/funky song the way it captured the old school sound of that rhythm and how she sounded with the emotion being projected through her voice. In the video I liked how they incorporated things like backup singers and tambourines to create the sound very nice. Dope song from Alabama Shakes and good looks on this new reaction Lost In Vegas.
You literally reacted to one of my favorite bands. It's sad because they aren't that well known and there is so much talent.. I wish everyone would be more open to music like you guys. I truly enjoy your reactions. Thank you for appreciating true talent.
I remember when this song was up for a Grammy. That was when I first heard it. Other than the spine-digging scream when she started singing, I think the song is groovy and fantastic
Even if you don't do a video on it, please check out the performance they did on Letterman of Hold On. It puts all her talents on display and is one of the best live performances I have seen!
Agree. I think this band really brings it live, and maybe they don't have the producer who can get that on a recording just yet. I hope they stick around because I think they're getting better as they go, which is really saying something because they are great.
Someone else said it “Alabama Shakes hold on” another great song.. so glad you guys loved this one and now I’m your fan on my second video. Keep them coming.
Love this band since hearing 'Hold On', which would be a great one to review. I've been lucky to have seen the in a small club on their first tour in Europe. Great musicians and what a voice!!!
I'm very happy you listened to your numero uno music curator. I love AS because they took a traditional Muscle Shoals sound then wrote good songs and then let Brittany cut loose. I agree w all your comments. I would love to see you guys open up the Muddy Waters Chess-era catalog. Still A Fool or Can't Be Satisfied.
I ran into your channel today have been so surprised by the diversity of your choices and it has made me happy to see. I loved this song for a while now and it's good to see people giving it the attention it deserves!
Wow. Only 2000 comments. glad you reacted to this great song, its a really great album all the way. I'm the type of person who judges bands on their ability to produce an entire album rather than singles. And Alabama Shakes certainly proved they could do that on their 2nd release. Keep them on your radar.
Just found you guys via Chris Stapleton and then started searching other greats I know and bam here you are again with the greats. Loving it! I'll try to request on your new videos but y'all are killing it. Your fans know what's up! I'm sure you've heard her song "hold on" by now, but that's solid gold!
I was going into this blind. I've never heard of them and I love them! I'm heading off to go find more Alabama Shakes!! so awesome. Ya'll need to do some Marc Broussard! He's amazing! I recommend "Cry to Me" cover, or "Home" Or Mountain Heart "Whipping Post"
Have been absolutely loving this band for a few years now. Sound & Color is a masterpiece and they are amazing live. They remind me of 60's soul meets 70's funk with some splashes of Detroit garage rock. Restores my faith in music again.
I just discovered your channel, and I can't stop watching. I'm finding so much new (to me) music through you guys. Loving it. Thanks. PS, you should check out Reign of Kindo.
I didn't know you guys would really touch this music. I would recommend "The HEAVY, "Short Changed Hero". I'm not sure what to call it other than "Dirty Rock" or really just blues rock. Slightly distorted and a recall back to 1970s groove-rock blend. watch?v=GjTTB6yII4o
Their website says blues-rock under the "about" section. But there are so many mixes and fusions of genres in every song these days it's difficult to grasp what their entire band is about.
DAMN! Thank you #lostinvegas. I'm buying this right now. I consider myself a Metal Elitist, but sometimes a groove comes along and catches you by surprise, this is one of those grooves.
All that talent from a small town in Alabama if you knew the history of that studio they are in and all the music recorded there like let's get it on, Aerosmith, alicia keys records here, demi Lovato. Any song from the 60s 70s as recorded there. The type of music is called muscle shoals sound it is it's own genre seriously watch the documentary you will then understand muscle shoals sound and its history and relevance.
I appreciate y'all channel so much. Never heard of this group and it's for sure banging in my jeep on the road next time! Love the country stuff but love hearing something cool of all genres
Love Alabama shakes I went to high school with brittany and was on the drumline with her Amazing to see how far she's come! They've put in lots of hard work and deserve all the attention they're getting
so I started out watching you guys listen to music that I grew up with and love. Much of it much older music . Now I am beginning to watch outside of my box with you guys. Love this ,and your comments where right on. Technically though this is in my wheel house.
SOB is funny. I think they would like it. There is another of their songs that I really dig, too, but my memory fails me. I know the video centers around his perfectionism in recording a song. The video cracks me up. 😅
Saw them in concert and her voice is INCREDIBLE. You should do You Ain't Alone and Always Alright. Very different feel to each song and both really showcase the best of her vocal range. Especially You Ain't Alone.
Hey guys, you gotta check out Lukas Nelson he’s Willie Nelson’s son and he has some great songs. I’d start with either “High times” or “If I started Over”
BRITTANY HOWARD!!!! I f’n love her and the Alabama Shakes!!! Every time I try and put people on this band I tell them “picture a female gospel singer in a bluesy/funk band”. Fantastic!! Definitely a southern feel to this band. Her voice is incredible!
Love the discussion about how easily really good artists can get lost in the shuffle of how much music we have today. It’s the double-edged sword of having so many options: harder for anyone to grow into something big.
Alabama Shakes They are from my neck of the woods! LiV, you should also react to St. Paul and the Broken Bones - "Call Me" ... another great throwback sound from Alabama .... Roll Tide!
Would love to see them do St. Paul's "Call Me." Been pushing my wish list once in a while. ""Hold On" by @Alabama_Shakes , "Call Me" by @StP_BrokenBones , "Murder In The City" by @theavettbros , "S.O.B." by @NRateliff , "Fish Assassin" by @shovelsandrope , "Ain't No Reason" by @brettdennen"
I'm a 68 year old musician who really likes what is coming out on Indie labels and Alabama Shakes is one of the best groups out. Their song "Hold On" is another great song.
Olivia Fitzgerald I stop at before I saw Chris Stapelton and was ready to become a fanboy 😂but you are absolutely correct 👌
She was totally amazing at Bottle Rock 2013. I was sitting about 200 ft away, in a crowd of people, and I'd swear the only two people there were me and her.
Containment Failure seriously! She just has that captivating vibe. So glad others catch it and appreciate her.
Olivia, you have a good ear. What do you think about St. Paul and the Broken Bones?
Best concert I've ever been to.
Yassssssss! Alabama Shakes is so freaking amazing. You guys gotta check out some more of their stuff.
Stormy Ermatinger I agree
I was one who suggested them. My suggestion was Future People, which is just stunning.
How about calling it Southern Soul Rock. Really it is Brittany howling at the world and letting all her emotions out and makes it art. She is the single most impressive new artist that has come along in the last 10 years. She should be a super star and shame on the music business that she isn't.
"Gimme All Your Love" is an exceptional song by Alabama Shakes.
Never heard of Alabama Shakes, but the ears don't lie. Sounds good.
You gotta do "Hold On" by Alabama Shakes. It's the song that put them out there.
Yesss!!! 👏👏🙏
The better song by far!
Great song and great band. I hope you get back to this album soon. I don’t even think this is in their top 5 as far as the album is concerned. I’d recommend gimme all your love or Future People from that same live session.
liljb1414 agreeeeee 🙏
Gimme all your love and Sound and Color are my fav
GIVE ME ALL YOUR LOVE! Especially that ending.
liljb1414
How us there a week old comment on a video uploaded today, just a while ago?
GorgeousRoddyChrome it was released earlier to their patreon followers.
Chris Stapleton needs to do a song with these guys. The universe might not be able to handle that much soul, though.
That would be incredible!
burger vonstadt get out of my head😂
Chris Stapleton and Alabama Shakes did a co-headliner concert in Milwaukee Summerfest 2016. Best live music I have ever seen! Sad to say no duets, but they both sang their faces off.
I’m a black chick and would lose my shit if that happened I’m so feeling this group and chris is one of my favourites
'Sound and color' is another great song by them. Check out Bon Iver!
My I’m sooooooo happy you guys reacted to this. Alabama Shakes is one of my favorites. I would say listen to “over my head” from this album too. Brittany is a phenomenal singer/songwriter a definite gem in today’s music climate.
Based on Alabama Shakes:
Gary Clark Jr. "Catfish blues"
Kaleo "No Good"
St Paul and the Broken Bones "Sanctify"

What a pleasant surprise. Found this browsing through your channel. Alabama Shakes is amazing! Hold On is the one that hooked me originally. Def worth a listen!
I like finding new obscure artists who sound awesome like this and genre doesn't matter, talent is talent.
toolmaker129 Alabama Shakes is hardly obscure, but I agree, learning about different artists is great.
Not obscure at all lmao
Joshua Douthat That's ok Joshua Douthat I'm just starting to get back into listening to music seriously again now that I'm disabled , can't work anymore, and I have a lot of time on my hands. toolmaker129 it wasn’t a roast, you don’t have to be so defensive. If you like this song, listen to hold on, future people, and dunes.
Ben Johnson I'm trying , thanks for the heads up. I'm just seriously starting to get back into listening to music again and checking out all these talented young artist I probably have missed . Oh I'm here for this!!... Alabama man checking out a Alabama band
Country Soul they are from athens alabama good people knew em before they made it
I'm typically a metalhead but I love the revival of old-school soulful and funky music. If you want some songs to check out that fall into this category I'd check out the below:
Rag'n'Bone Man: Human
Michael Kiwanuka: Cold Little Heart
Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats: S.O.B
Capital Cities: Farah Fawcett Hair
Tame Impala: The Less I Know The Better
The Black Keys: Lonely Boy
Black Keys sinister Kid also 'my theme song ' I'm not the one
Love Michael Kiwanuka xx
Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Janis Joplin are all great comparisons but BRITTANY HOWARD is in a class by itself! Pure raw passion and talent🔥🔥🔥
Oh my goddddd I had no idea how badly I wanted this until I saw you had done it.
Aretha Franklin & James Brown rolled-up into one performer! Fire reaction! Loved this Ryan & George!
I heard “gimme all your love” on tv a few years back, had to Shazam it and bought their album straight away. This is just one of those bands that I think everyone can appreciate no matter what genre you’re in to. Definitely recommend that track, it’s on the same album.
Alabama Shakes - Over My Head (Official Video - Live from Capitol Studio A) Blew my mind.
Yesssss oh my goodness, this song helped me find my way again while in hard times. All of their stuff is beyond amazing
Other gems from this now rather famous band : "be mine" and "gimme all your love". You're welcome.
Second Gimme all your love!
I thoroughly enjoy this album. Glad to see you guys react to it. This is one of my faves from the album. Check out the video for the title track.
Yes indeed! This is that shit. Her voice is incredible and they are groovy as hell. This is one of those bands at the top of my list to see live.
I saw them live. It was one of the best shows I've been to, and I've been to a bunch. Brittany went off!!! Her glasses flew off her face at one point.
I feel like Brittany on her worst day still probably blows away most artists today live.
Alabama Shakes...yeah! Love their retro sound and the rawness. Please do more!
I remember when they were just "The Shakes" and playing radio shows in northern AL. They are truly awesome performers and really nice people to boot.
St. Paul & the Broken Bones. The singer could make the phone book sound like gold!
Agree %100
The Tedeschi Trucks Band is another one of these quietly great bands. Midnight In Harlem is their best known song but they have several good songs. Harlem is a little slow groove. Love Has Something Else To say (eTown webisode 107) is a great example of the size and talent if the group.
TTB is great! Derek Trucks is a master on slide guitar, saw him when he was 16 and he's only grown since then.
For some reason, they've never taken with me, even when they were solo. Never made sense to me, on paper we're perfect, I do like the occasional track though, like "Do I Look Worried to You?" Got me recently
Chris Schloegel I really enjoyed her solo stuff. Its all good though man.
TTB, Gary Clark Jr., Kingfish, Marcus King, Alabama Shakes; these guys all fall under great bands (artists) i cant wait to see take off. Clark is maybe the closest to it.
That song is my jam boi. TTB and DTB's entire catalog is amazing.
Nate Baker a
You literally reacted to one of my favorite bands. It's sad because they aren't that well known and there is so much talent.. I wish everyone would be more open to music like you guys. I truly enjoy your reactions. Thank you for appreciating true talent.
This Feeling by Alabama Skakes is my go to song for any mood I'm in.
.... great writing and hella soulful
Stevie Ray Vaughan- Little Wing Live
I remember when this song was up for a Grammy. That was when I first heard it. Other than the spine-digging scream when she started singing, I think the song is groovy and fantastic
Even if you don't do a video on it, please check out the performance they did on Letterman of Hold On. It puts all her talents on display and is one of the best live performances I have seen!
Their performance of Always Alright on SNL was awesome, too. (So was Hold On)
I prefer the snl version. I was a bit disappointed when I bought the album. I really like how they sounded live.

Living Colour Cult Of Personality.
I'm back....to request once again Gary Clark Jr numb or bright lights. Please
Preach.
Also, Eric Lindell
Absolutely
That's exactly who I was thinking of suggesting.
Bright lights live is the version to see from Crossroads festival that was his breakthrough performance.
I ran into your channel today have been so surprised by the diversity of your choices and it has made me happy to see. I loved this song for a while now and it's good to see people giving it the attention it deserves!
These guys have actually been nominated for 9 Grammy awards and won 4 of 'em. Listen to the whole album - it's all good
Radiohead - Weird Fishes/Arpeggi
“Say hello to heaven” by Temple Of The Dog, please fellas, you wont regret it
I dunno, Alabama Shakes are pretty popular already. They headline a lot of festivals and get played on the radio a fair but in the UK.
Wow. Only 2000 comments. glad you reacted to this great song, its a really great album all the way. I'm the type of person who judges bands on their ability to produce an entire album rather than singles. And Alabama Shakes certainly proved they could do that on their 2nd release. Guys can you please do Black Sabbath's Planet Caravan? It is my favourite song of all genres.
I was going into this blind. I've never heard of them and I love them! I'm heading off to go find more Alabama Shakes!! so awesome.
Ya'll need to do some Marc Broussard! He's amazing! I recommend "Cry to Me" cover, or "Home"

I've never heard of Alabama Shakes before, but they are great! The music is simple but so hot it's on fire!! Glad you decided to do this eaction!
DAMN! Thank you #lostinvegas. I'm buying this right now. I consider myself a Metal Elitist, but sometimes a groove comes along and catches you by surprise, this is one of those grooves.
i love alabama shakes. thanks for spotlighting them.
Tame Impala - The Less I Know The Better
MikeToreno righteous request!! Or New person/same old mistakes by them !
Yeah absolutely, whole album is awesome!
Yes to this request!
Crystale Swager muscle shoals is definitely a place that every music head should visit!
You didn't mention the name of the studio or the documentary
The name of the studio is fame the documentary is muscle shoals I named it in a previous comment.
Their town of Athens, Alabama also produced Anderson East, who's always putting out great stuff as well.
Alabama produces more talent than anyone knows musicians and actors.
I appreciate y'all channel so much. Never heard of this group and it's for sure banging in my jeep on the road next time! Love the country stuff but love hearing something cool of all genres
They CRUSHED on SNL LIVE!!! Best performance I’ve EVER heard coming outta my tv.

The song won two awards at the 58th Grammy Awards on February 15, 2016.
so I started out watching you guys listen to music that I grew up with and love.

@@inspirationworks8357 Need Never Get Old is the video about trying to get the perfect take on a song. The video and song are both fantastic.
Yesss I love You Worry Me
I'm failing you is fantastic. I love them and paired with Alabama Shakes is some great driving music.
Howling at the moon also. Hell pretty much their entire first album
You Ain't Alone by Alabama Shakes is beautiful.
Wait So Long - Trampled By Turtles
This reminds me of the good stuff that was on the radio in the mid 70's. I was 6 in 1977 and radio was wonderful.
Saw them in concert and her voice is INCREDIBLE. You should do You Ain't Alone and Always Alright. Very different feel to each song and both really showcase the best of her vocal range. Especially You Ain't Alone.
Awesome. Great band.
Now do Clutch.
Dante Recknagel YES! Clutch needs to happen! Electric Worry, D.C. Sound Attack, A Quick Death in Texas...
Hey guys, you gotta check out Lukas Nelson he’s Willie Nelson’s son and he has some great songs. I’d start with either “High times” or “If I started Over”
Tame Impala- Lonerism (full album)
BRITTANY HOWARD!!!! I f’n love her and the Alabama Shakes!!! Every time I try and put people on this band I tell them “picture a female gospel singer in a bluesy/funk band”. Fantastic!! Definitely a southern feel to this band. Her voice is incredible!
Love the discussion about how easily really good artists can get lost in the shuffle of how much music we have today. It’s the double-edged sword of having so many options: harder for anyone to grow into something big.
Guys, do Queens of the Stone Age!!
Y’all should do ALMOST HOME- CRAIG MORGAN
YES!
I absolutely love your guys videos. It’s cool to see y’all review all types of genres.
I'm a 68 year old musician who really likes what is coming out on Indie labels and Alabama Shakes is one of the best groups out. Their song "Hold On" is another great song.
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals - The Lion The Beast The Beat
