Why are there barrow wights if Gondor and Arnor have not yet been founded? The barrows didn’t exist until after the fall of the successor kingdoms which were established after the fall of Arnor. The barrows hold the noble dead of those lands which were crushed by the Witch King in service to Sauron... a service which didn’t even begin until after Sauron had gained possession of the lesser rings. The writing of this show makes me sad to think it could be someone's first exposure to something Tolkien-adjacent.
back when season 1 ended I saw someone quip "so in season 2 is halbrand just gonna show up in a blonde wig like hi guys its me annatar?" - can't even satirize this show without it coming true lmao
This show also suffers from the compressed timeline, Annatar worked with Celebrimbor for 3 centuries, which makes more sense why he became "in command" when Celebrimbor became 'ill' as opposed to Annatar was there for 3 weeks and now 2nd in command.
These time periods from the Second Age chronology will be a problem even for a perfect adaptation. There is almost 2000 years between the forging of the Rings and the Downfall of Numenor. 28:00 As someone who has worked in the film and TV industry I can say, this is the unfortunate side-effect of actor's egos. There needs to be an even distribution of lines between the main characters in a scene. It's a thing. Now you know about, you'll ID it all the fkin time, unfortunately. The only exception to this is when one actor is higher paid or more famous than the others so they will get more lines of dialogue or a more prominent depiction in each scene - because they are the biggest ego in the room.
American tv shows kill me with this, the unnatural conversations evenly distributed between cast members, where each cast member starts talking exactly after the other for his or her time slot before the next and they go round robin, NCIS and Criminal Minds come to mind.
@@snarzetax They claimed it was writing. But that script was absolutely appalling. Actors endlessly repeating lines to pad the running time of each episode. Not to mention that terrible battle at the end. That was the stupidest thing I've ever had to watch. The criticism is endless.
I’m so glad I didn’t watch the show so I could watch you tear it apart. Honestly, you might be my absolute favourite creator for this stuff. Keep the fire coming, sir. I haven’t laughed this hard in a long time.
I watched it so I could discern which creators were actually own legit impressions, as compared to the grifters who just repeat the popular twitter complaints for adsense. And there were quite a few of those. A lot of smaller channels hit it out of the park, I found some cool creators. And got some great laughs mutually hating a terrible show :p
I despise that they roll the r’s instead of trilling them. It’s a petty difference, but it got my goat. Guttural, instead of light and lilting. My brain forgot they were meant to be elves, they were all so stodgy and clump-along.
I just finished watching the Penguin and there is a scene there where he talks to the smaller gangster and gives them beer, he talks to manipulate them and you can´t tell he is talking BS by the smallest of smiles he makes right before drinking the beer. It´s a brilliant scene and it fits with what you´ll expect an evil person would do, specially if that character has a reputation of being cunning, deceptive and persuasive.
I tried. I put in the first season and I couldn’t even get through the first episode without rolling my eyes. There is no way they thought that this was going to be a phenomenon.
I don't believe it was ever greenlit with the plans of it being a "phenomenon." It was designed with only one goal in mind: to get Amazon more subscribers. That's why the writing is awful and clearly doesn't care to do any justice to Tolkien-lore.
The editor: The unsung hero of any medium to large UA-camr. Also, She-Hulk is worse than Galadriel, because She-Hulk was written as if she was going to have a character arc to stop being a c*nt, but never gets it, while there's still time for Galadriel to suck less. Seal Clap Counter: 9.
This show was doomed as soon as the question "Why does a ship float while a rock cannot" was pontificated and it's been downhill ever since that profoundly idiotic nugget of wisdom.
Aside from how they butchered one of the most beloved high fantasy books, I was shocked by poor, unprofessional quality of literally everything in the show. They had one billion and wasted it for nothing... the budget of Lawrence of Arabia (1962) with panoramic battle scenes and the REAL hordes of horsemen was $15kk ( ~$100kk today adjusted for inflation which is more or less like one episode of RoP ). Another epic movie from the past, Spartacus (1960) costed $12kk, it employed over 10,000 real people, not dozen of bad CGI designers.
What's the actual payoff of including not Gandalf in this TV show if it will not be affecting the main storyline of Elves and Sauron? Well, I for one is hoping for Amazon to dish out the money (to waste) on Season 3. GO AMAZON! DO IT! WASTE MORE MONEY!
Just like the lazy and unimaginative writing of those God awful SW sequels, these jokers at Amazon shamelessly steal bits and pieces from PJ’s work, and completely bastardizes it.
I found myself actively rooting for Sauron to destroy everyone else. I didn't like Elrond much, but I did like it when he continuously checked fake-Galadriel with truth bombs.
Sorry you had to endure this sh1t mate. Your sacrifice shall not go unnoticed. You have shown your true quality. See? I said the thing too! Oh Iiiii member! lol.
Tolkien is my favorite in terms of books and the Peter Jackson movies despite not being exact to the books were still very good. This show is too concerned with real world politics than sticking for the canon lore. It’s just awful.
My one “to be fair” is to say that Elrond is supposedly a scholar with little real world experience so him not recognizing the barrow-wights but knowing how to defeat them once he hears the name makes at least some sense.
the visuals were good, but the cast choices ruin the aesthetic of Middle Earth for DEI. Also, the timeline of Tolkien was thrown into a blender. Overall I wanted to like thius, but got pissed off at it many times. Goddamn writers at Amazon thinking they know better than Tolkien. That elf charachter, Arondir, or however it's spelled looks like a US marine, not a damn elf. Fail on Amazon. They could have used those same actors but in different roles.
@@reygonzalez6021 Yeah, I'm glad she didn't sign up for or get the role again. It would've been a terrible mistake after seeing how bad the show has turned out.
Same. Or Peter Jackson, for that matter. But then again, if he had been involved from the get go, we would have gotten something better or at least passable.
In Tolkien's original return of the king, orcs dont really want to go to war they dont fear it its just that the dark lord's war specifically isnt one that interested them. They had their own inner battles they wanted to fight. They had things THEY cared about fighting and fighting for, and the only way they would listen to the Dark Lord is if the Dark Lord hired whipmasters that could use the orcish language of violence against them, dominate them at their own game, then herd them & dump them off at the battlefields of his chosing To the dark lord, Orcs were bugs. Snarks from Half Life that nip at you and you gotta reach in there and pick up the whole hive and hurl rabid animals at your foes. He his someone who finds a way to guide a swarm of locusts.
Yeah, I don't care about the show, but I've legit become a fan of the actor since seeing him in the s1 review clips. He even talks intelligently about Tolkien's work in interviews. If they'd made the show properly, he would have been a good cast as Isildur.
i mean, Sauron the character was literally just along for the ride the entire season, so i'm not sure how anyone could think he 'carried' it.... like, literally, every part of his 'genius plan' was him being in the right place at the right time for someone else to have a stroke and do the stupidest thing imaginable just so he could somehow get to where he needed to be for the next plot contrivance to fall into his lap People over praise Charlie Vickers here. He's not terrible, i'd certainly like to see him in a show written by someone, well, LITERATE, to see what he can do... but Sauron the character is just nothing. He's just there because the plot needs him to be and then vanishes when it needs him to be gone. There is absolutely no sense of agency here, stuff is happening TO him, not because of him.
After episode 3 of season 1, I wanted this show canceled. Since then, I've realized that I want them to keep going. I want them to be forced to do 5 seasons even after realizing what a failure it is. Everyday just going through the motions while knowing they have ruined their names in Hollywood. I want it to lose so much money that the people involved never get jobs in Hollywood again and people think of this show the next time they try and adapt fantasy.
Adar "turning good" at the end made sense to me. Nenya healed him, presumably including Morgoth's torment, and is basically turned back into an Elf (at least while wearing it).
I love how all the rings are the exact same right up to the point of corrupting their wearer…. Which is something that could only happen with Sauron wearing his one, dominant ring to enforce his control. We just gonna ignore the elves using their rings for centuries after his death? Ah yes ofc we are!
So I love the writing of this shit show and I love that it’s a thing. It only makes me LOVE Tolkien even more. Makes me cherish the fact that those movies got made when they did bc imagine if they got made today. I just feel bad for the actors who actual try to make it better by giving their all but it’ll never work.
so not gonna talk about the most funniest black actors cameos in the background who have absolute nothing to do other than being in half of the screen by bying the blackest black actors you could find for all the races of middle earth
They needed more motivated lighting for the night time scense. I still don't know how Game of thrones season 8 took an army of Mongolian stand in's, lit their swords and sickles on fire and it was still too dark to see
Makes total sense with all the whaaaaa-minz writers and directors: "So, like, just like us, like, Guyladriel should like TOTALLY fall for the bad boy, Sauron! Like!"
Thanks for your in-depth analysis of TRoP. After season 1 ended i looked forward to watching season 2. Surely things would start making more sense. But after the Harfoots got taken away by the whirlwind I was so disoriented and confused by the multiple story lines that I just quit watching it. I thought I must not be intelligent enough to understand this complex telling of a tale. Thanks to your explanation I now know the problem was not with my failing mental capabilities, but the insanity of the writers and producers of this train wreck series. By watching your complete video i now know how TRoP ended without having to watch hours and hours just to be torture. Plus I have been freed from the confusion of Middle Earth forever....

@@clippy-v4q and they call it acting. lol.
@@benmiles00 no, they call it writing lmao
@@snarzetax They claimed it was writing. But that script was absolutely appalling. Actors endlessly repeating lines to pad the running time of each episode. Not to mention that terrible battle at the end. That was the stupidest thing I've ever had to watch. The criticism is endless.
This show was so bad I got rid of my TV all together.
Destroy it!
I hate how characters in this show pronounce the names - it's so freaking pretentious.
I despise that they roll the r’s instead of trilling them. It’s a petty difference, but it got my goat. Guttural, instead of light and lilting. My brain forgot they were meant to be elves, they were all so stodgy and clump-along.
The Doors of Durin being moveable is so wrong. They're characterized by being made from the "living" (in situ) stone.
Elrond and Galadriel aren’t related. Galadriel is Elrond’s mother-in-law. Not sure if that’s worse or better.
It's hotter.
@@calumlittle9828 So hot
That’s still considered “related.” Just “related-by-marriage” not “blood-related”
Ugh, spelling edit sorry
I tried. I put in the first season and I couldn’t even get through the first episode without rolling my eyes. There is no way they thought that this was going to be a phenomenon.
I tried watching the first episode as well and I just couldn’t. It was horrendous.
The show should have never been green-lit.
The Peter Jackson LOTR will always be iconic and The Hobbit Trilogy is decent.
A phenomenal way to launder a billion bucks.
I don't believe it was ever greenlit with the plans of it being a "phenomenon." It was designed with only one goal in mind: to get Amazon more subscribers. That's why the writing is awful and clearly doesn't care to do any justice to Tolkien-lore.
Great commentary! You’re so cute. Yes I’m a man
Don Lemolas....oh man.
That Shite is still on?!?! I love LOTR, but hated season 1. I am convinced this is a lefty plot to ruin Tolkien.
i cant see "not gandalf" without seeing Asmongold....
The imitations of the ‘actors’ you do for this ‘show’ are fantastic
I don't think Movie Cynic likes Rings of Powers 😂
I don’t blame him at all😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
yooooo they got Asmongold to play Gandalf
Show: I'M BAAAAAaAD
👍👍👍😂😂
The editor: The unsung hero of any medium to large UA-camr.
Also, She-Hulk is worse than Galadriel, because She-Hulk was written as if she was going to have a character arc to stop being a c*nt, but never gets it, while there's still time for Galadriel to suck less. Seal Clap Counter: 9.
That was also me for the first 40 videos of this channel. Now BagFace is my personal hero
Delightful video as always. I never bothered with season two. Watching youtubers lose their minds over it is far more enjoyable.
This show was doomed as soon as the question "Why does a ship float while a rock cannot" was pontificated and it's been downhill ever since that profoundly idiotic nugget of wisdom.
Absolutely glorious piece of dialogue between Not-Finrod and Guyladriel...
You didn’t mention the horrendous way the names are pretentiously pronounced. “GaLaDrIeL!”
I found myself actively rooting for Sauron to destroy everyone else. I didn't like Elrond much, but I did like it when he continuously checked fake-Galadriel with truth bombs.
46:20 Non-dolf really got me good 😂
55:00 It's actually better, they come with the rising sun "Look to the North!" You know, north, where the sun normally rises.
Sorry you had to endure this sh1t mate. Your sacrifice shall not go unnoticed. You have shown your true quality. See? I said the thing too! Oh Iiiii member! lol.
😂😂😂
Tolkien is my favorite in terms of books and the Peter Jackson movies despite not being exact to the books were still very good. This show is too concerned with real world politics than sticking for the canon lore. It’s just awful.
The only thing I want to know now is what movie is at 06:03, with tom harding. The rest I couldn't care less about.
Its called 'Bronson.' Starring Tom Hardy.
The movie about Charlie Bronson
This review is awesome
Don't call it 'worst", they may treat that as a challenge
My one “to be fair” is to say that Elrond is supposedly a scholar with little real world experience so him not recognizing the barrow-wights but knowing how to defeat them once he hears the name makes at least some sense.
0:50 You had me at "Temu" 😢
Thank you giving RoP S2 the review it deserves
You are a gentleman and a scholar
For the algorithms because yours & the Despot make such great content and got me through my night shifts.. thank yoy
I never seen a show that literally made me want all the main characters dead and Sauron to win. 😂
01:01:37 "He asked the gods..."
Wait, what? This is Middle Earth... what gods?! Did they not check the script at all?
This shit was freaking hilarious. 😅
Hour long video?? Man's blessing us
the visuals were good, but the cast choices ruin the aesthetic of Middle Earth for DEI.
Criminally under-subbed channel.
You and the Despot of Antrim should team
Up for a video
Ill never get over what a frump the lead actress is compared to the Movie Galadriel
Thing is, Cate Blanchett is still a babe and still could've played the role. Would've worked just fine.
@ComedyBros5 she has better sense and taste I would guess, but in a better prequel, what with de-aging, yeah for sure.
@@reygonzalez6021 Yeah, I'm glad she didn't sign up for or get the role again. It would've been a terrible mistake after seeing how bad the show has turned out.
Glad I didn't watch this trash. It does not deserve Tolkien's world
Same. Or Peter Jackson, for that matter. But then again, if he had been involved from the get go, we would have gotten something better or at least passable.
In Tolkien's original return of the king,
orcs
dont really want to go to war
they dont fear it
its just that the dark lord's war specifically isnt one that interested them. They had their own inner battles they wanted to fight. They had things THEY cared about fighting and fighting for, and the only way they would listen to the Dark Lord is if the Dark Lord hired whipmasters that could use the orcish language of violence against them, dominate them at their own game, then herd them & dump them off at the battlefields of his chosing
To the dark lord, Orcs were bugs. Snarks from Half Life that nip at you and you gotta reach in there and pick up the whole hive and hurl rabid animals at your foes. He his someone who finds a way to guide a swarm of locusts.
I don't think you quite understood what "metamodern" means if you connect it to this show.
Ill be honest. Sauron (the character and the actor) carried Season 2 big time
I hear the actor who played Halbrand in Season 1 was also good as well. Too bad I never watched the show tho 😂😂😂LOL
No, he didn't.
He was good as an actor, but nobody can carry THIS.
Yeah, I don't care about the show, but I've legit become a fan of the actor since seeing him in the s1 review clips. He even talks intelligently about Tolkien's work in interviews. If they'd made the show properly, he would have been a good cast as Isildur.
i mean, Sauron the character was literally just along for the ride the entire season, so i'm not sure how anyone could think he 'carried' it.... like, literally, every part of his 'genius plan' was him being in the right place at the right time for someone else to have a stroke and do the stupidest thing imaginable just so he could somehow get to where he needed to be for the next plot contrivance to fall into his lap
People over praise Charlie Vickers here.
@@petriew2018 Well said 💯

Many keks were had
After episode 3 of season 1, I wanted this show canceled. Since then, I've realized that I want them to keep going. I want them to be forced to do 5 seasons even after realizing what a failure it is. Everyday just going through the motions while knowing they have ruined their names in Hollywood. I want it to lose so much money that the people involved never get jobs in Hollywood again and people think of this show the next time they try and adapt fantasy.
“The bullsh**** mystery box style storytelling popularized by the show Lost…” Bro at least Lost was a good show 💀
Babe, wake up, new Movie Cynic vid dropped
'Hate fiction' this show in a nutshell😳
Adar "turning good" at the end made sense to me. Nenya healed him, presumably including Morgoth's torment, and is basically turned back into an Elf (at least while wearing it).
Watching this with the TLOTR soundtrack in the background...lol, works perfectly. TBH I wish this show was dope, how did the fuck this up sp badly?!
"Legacy Celebrities". Still W
I love ur shit man...tbh I'm not gonna watch cause I could give fuck less of rings of whatever
The show is definitely the equivalent of prison food, good call
love this channel man, keep it up!
13:59 is he shaving?? but elves don´t have beards, only the super duper old gets one
Cirdan is a super duper old one by the time of ROP I think... Correct me if I'm wrong please.
@AndrewSavasoMusic ah is Cirdan, yes he did have a beard, a long beard, so still is weird he is shaving it.
Didn't Tolkien spend 20 something years writing LotR and longer to write The Simarillion? But these writers "fixed" it all in a few months.
so not gonna talk about the most funniest black actors cameos in the background who have absolute nothing to do other than being in half of the screen by bying the blackest black actors you could find for all the races of middle earth
Like!"
Loving the unobtrusive editing by Bagface.
💯 Loving these ‘Editor Notes’!!! 💯💯😂😂😂

Very funny review & good edits
True💯. It’s fantastic
Is sad think a show about the second age that has been destroyed by hubris. Now we have to wait another ten years or more for maybe a movie or another show.
Damn Amazon for making me root for Glug and hoping he could go back to Mrs. Glug and Glug Jr. Only to have Adar off him out of nowhere.
