Slight correction: Sally's father is only a ground squirrel in the Archie comics. In the SatAM TV series, her father was a fox. Writer Ben Hurst confirmed this, saying she's half squirrel and half fox in the SatAM series, and you can tell he's designed as a fox in SatAM.
Honestly, since i was more familiar with the current design of Amy, i never really question why she looks so diferent from every other hedgehog character, i really like this take on her, it give her a lot of potencial to explore his unknown heratige with Knuckles as her guide
Damn, ya'll are truly game theory coded with this one, researching so many small little details that might be just a happy series of coincidences, but actually trying to bring it all together to a reasonable conclusion? This gives me huge "Rosalina's secret" vibes which is within my favourite series of videos from GT so that's a big compliment. Also even as someone without siblings but has cousins that are basically 2nd hand brothers, and many friends with actual siblings, the bickering over the emerald color instantly made me believe the theory more than any other thing, amazing job with it all. Also out of the options i'd love to see either the Merlina or Surge and Kit's origins, tho i'd slightly prefer Merlina since she hasn't been in literally anything for such a long time, but i do also love the other 2 a lot, being my favourite IDW characters, so either way (and even with all of the other options, the Team Chaotix one also sounds insane but in a good way) i'l be happy with the content you two continue making, huge shoutouts from Argentina!
It always has been. The classic games introduce the world and Sonic Adventure all the way through to Sonic 06 is basically a lot of interwoven story and character arcs. Everything past 06 expands the world again. Forces, Frontiers, etc. are a return to more serious stories.
@maroonai I'm admittedly very much an outsider to Sonic. Other than Sonic X, I've only really played through Frontiers. So, as far as I knew, each chunk of Sonic games was their own thing - the classic bunch in 2D, the Sonic Adventures games, and then some random stand-alones for the Black Knight, Desert, Werehog, etc.

Side note, I love how you have such comprehensive subtitles and video clip attributions. The name of whoever is speaking and, when applicable, the source, is always present in the subtitles, and the video clips are always cited right there on the screen. That's SUCH a breath of fresh air. A lot of video essays will cite their research sources in the description, but for music and video clips it can be a crapshoot, and there are hardly ever subtitles that aren't autogenerated in the first place. Your dedication to making sure all of your sources are visible and accessible, and that your videos themselves are accessible to people with hearing issues, is something I really hope catches on. If I ever do this myself, I'm taking notes from your approach. The strongest point was definitely in Dread making her the captain of "The Angel", though that strikes me more as just a nod to the main timeline variants' roles in the franchise than as a comparison to something that WILL be happening for them as well. It's a great theory though, with lots of evidence to make the point! Well done ladies.

This is a really common mistake for an early youtuber to make but you literally never need to apologize for taking time between uploads. You don’t even need to address it. You can feel like it’s a long gap for your own retention rates or personal goals, but the viewers are just happy to see the finished product once it’s out, the apology for a wait feels completely unnecessary on our end.
When I played Adventure I was sure Amy was meant to be a cat (and Big was a rabbit, but that's not relevant), because she looked so different to Sonic. I don't know when it was I learned she was a hedgehog, but it feels weird to suddenly feel like I'm back at that young age now thinking once again, yeah, why DOES she look like that? Your pronunciation of etcetera as etketera is a fun one. Really loving this theory so far and even if it's not canon, it is going to be headcanon to me from this point on. It just works so damn well! Amy sensing Sonic feels like it could be an offshoot of chaos sensing given that Sonic has been a vessel for the emeralds since Amy's known him. He would always have had residual energies on him that she could detect with her echidna abilities. It just WORKS so well. But also going the route she has a more general psychic ability, it makes me start to wonder if she's Silver's ancestor. After being mixed with more hedgehog DNA of course, since Silver is at least hog enough to go super. On that note, surprised you didn't bring up super forms. Maybe that would have been too easy? It just seems VERY STRANGE that Sega REFUSES to let her turn blonde. Though that kind of messes with a theory I had that Rosy and Amy were different characters. Your idea that her genes just kicked in at different times makes more sense. I too was blonde as a child but not an adult. So weird I didn't think of that myself. But super Amy looks just like super Knuckles, so yeah, another point in the bag. Half hogs can't turn blonde, the answer was always staring us in the face!

a while back i saw your FNAF video in my recommendations and decided "fuck, i don't want to sit through a 2 hour theory video" so i ignored it. then i went into this video and it was actually so well put together that i looked for your other videos, only to recognize you made that FNAF video!! so i gave the FNAF vid a shot as well. sat through the entire thing at once. you two are so good at putting videos together you can make a 2 hour video feel like it wasn't even that long. i need you to realize how rare that is these days. lots of youtubers post a 10 minute video and it's so boring it feels like an eternity. i know this vid will never reach the raw viewership of the FNAF video but i really like the way you inserted a few memes and off-script moments in this one. not enough to make it tiring or like filler, just enough to make it fun and to bring out your personalities. i was thinking about the imposter syndrome mentioned at the beginning of the video so the ultimate point of this comment is to tell you that the viewership is well earned. also for the next sonic theory i elect #2 and #3 (not many people talk about the 06 timeline and how it fits into the canon. blaze's canon in particular is really fucked up between the rush games, 06, and the rivals games) or #8 (idk listening to a rant about the sonic x dub just sounds really comfy. people mostly talk about sonic x from a nostalgic point of view these days so this might reinvigorate some discussion about the show). i also like #5 but IDW is still going so it could age poorly.

Sonic lore jokes aside (i say that with LOVE) this is a solid theory and i think I'd like to see her character develop in this way. Knucks has always been my favorite sonic character and it is notable that while she's always been lagging behind Sonic in the speed department (albeit everyone besides shadow is) she's always been stronger than most. I like it. Good job.

On amy's dowsing: This would also make for a fun explanation to her going around to shadow in sa2 thinking he's sonic, similar to how knuckles confused the chaos and sol emeralds.
i can see amy being a hybrid echidna, but i often felt her style change was do to her wanting to find her own femininity. her classic design scream single-FATHER, seeing her shirt and dress were girl clothes but that didnt match in color or style. that could also explain why her hair was more masculine stylize, as she was given a more boyish look. and would still fit with the series lore; we know knuckles is the last echidna. so it could sadly mean her mother pass away, leaving her father raising her alone. a final thing, dont bring archie stuff as proof for canon, you will not hear the end of it from other fans
Well, just watched the video a third time. I'll be honest, I'm actually pretty thoroughly convinced. There wasn't really a single piece of evidence that shifted my opinion of anything. It's just that there's so many little coincidences that could be nothing on their own, but when I look at them together I can't help but come to the exact same conclusions you've reached. I still think the initial design change was probably just a way to make her "the girl character," but all the recent evidence from Frontiers, Prime, and IDW have me convinced that they're retconning in a reason for the redesign. The pieces were all laid out early on in Adventure and Sonic X like you mentioned, I just think they're finally doing something with them.
Please do a bendy theory. And while I know you said maybe only about the first game as batds was a big letdown, I'm here to say bendy and the dark revival is a big step up from those two games. It has Improved animations, upgraded models, Henry gets a physical appearance, the ink demon starts talking and more. And if it interests you, joey Drew studios are making a rebrand of batds called Bendy: lone wolf. It will upgrade EVERYTHING in batds. There are also a number of upcoming games like bendy: the cage (which is basically batdr's The Lion King 1½ which focuses on Henry) and a first person shooter called bendy: the silent city. It will also have a likely final third mainline game. And an upcoming film. So please, give bendy another chance.
It honestly bugs me when people use evidence from multiple Sonic continuities to prove a point in one as rules and evidence may be different in nature in those other continuities. I just thought that Amy was a Sonic Fan girl that modified her hairstyle to look like Sonic and then just grew out of that phase to look what she feels the most comfortable with. Throwing my hat in the ring as someone who knows NOTHING about Sonic: I fully thought Amy was a cat until this video. This is fascinating to me. I thought she was canonically a cat. I didn’t know her species was a fandom mystery. Like the ear shape and snout shape is the exact same as Blaze. I just assumed she was a smaller, younger cat with a stubbier tail. Side note, I love how you have such comprehensive subtitles and video clip attributions. The name of whoever is speaking and, when applicable, the source, is always present in the subtitles, and the video clips are always cited right there on the screen. That's SUCH a breath of fresh air. A lot of video essays will cite their research sources in the description, but for music and video clips it can be a crapshoot, and there are hardly ever subtitles that aren't autogenerated in the first place. Your dedication to making sure all of your sources are visible and accessible, and that your videos themselves are accessible to people with hearing issues, is something I really hope catches on. If I ever do this myself, I'm taking notes from your approach.

The strongest point was definitely in Dread making her the captain of "The Angel", though that strikes me more as just a nod to the main timeline variants' roles in the franchise than as a comparison to something that WILL be happening for them as well. It's a great theory though, with lots of evidence to make the point! Well done ladies.

This is a really common mistake for an early youtuber to make but you literally never need to apologize for taking time between uploads. You don’t even need to address it.
You can feel like it’s a long gap for your own retention rates or personal goals, but the viewers are just happy to see the finished product once it’s out, the apology for a wait feels completely unnecessary on our end.

Really loving this theory so far and even if it's not canon, it is going to be headcanon to me from this point on. It just works so damn well! Amy sensing Sonic feels like it could be an offshoot of chaos sensing given that Sonic has been a vessel for the emeralds since Amy's known him. He would always have had residual energies on him that she could detect with her echidna abilities. It just WORKS so well. But also going the route she has a more general psychic ability, it makes me start to wonder if she's Silver's ancestor. After being mixed with more hedgehog DNA of course, since Silver is at least hog enough to go super.
On that note, surprised you didn't bring up super forms. Maybe that would have been too easy? It just seems VERY STRANGE that Sega REFUSES to let her turn blonde. Though that kind of messes with a theory I had that Rosy and Amy were different characters. Your idea that her genes just kicked in at different times makes more sense. I too was blonde as a child but not an adult. So weird I didn't think of that myself. But super Amy looks just like super Knuckles, so yeah, another point in the bag. Half hogs can't turn blonde, the answer was always staring us in the face!

a while back i saw your FNAF video in my recommendations and decided "fuck, i don't want to sit through a 2 hour theory video" so i ignored it.
then i went into this video and it was actually so well put together that i looked for your other videos, only to recognize you made that FNAF video!! so i gave the FNAF vid a shot as well. sat through the entire thing at once. you two are so good at putting videos together you can make a 2 hour video feel like it wasn't even that long. i need you to realize how rare that is these days. lots of youtubers post a 10 minute video and it's so boring it feels like an eternity.
i know this vid will never reach the raw viewership of the FNAF video but i really like the way you inserted a few memes and off-script moments in this one. not enough to make it tiring or like filler, just enough to make it fun and to bring out your personalities.

Sonic lore jokes aside (i say that with LOVE) this is a solid theory and i think I'd like to see her character develop in this way. Knucks has always been my favorite sonic character and it is notable that while she's always been lagging behind Sonic in the speed department (albeit everyone besides shadow is) she's always been stronger than most. On amy's dowsing: This would also make for a fun explanation to her going around to shadow in sa2 thinking he's sonic, similar to how knuckles confused the chaos and sol emeralds.
i can see amy being a hybrid echidna, but i often felt her style change was do to her wanting to find her own femininity. her classic design scream single-FATHER, seeing her shirt and dress were girl clothes but that didnt match in color or style. that could also explain why her hair was more masculine stylize, as she was given a more boyish look.
and would still fit with the series lore; we know knuckles is the last echidna. so it could sadly mean her mother pass away, leaving her father raising her alone.
a final thing, dont bring archie stuff as proof for canon, you will not hear the end of it from other fans

I always assumed it was not so much a redesign, as a... makeover. She was in town in Adventure, right? Shopping district, specifically?
Well, just watched the video a third time. I'll be honest, I'm actually pretty thoroughly convinced. There wasn't really a single piece of evidence that shifted my opinion of anything. It's just that there's so many little coincidences that could be nothing on their own, but when I look at them together I can't help but come to the exact same conclusions you've reached. I still think the initial design change was probably just a way to make her "the girl character," but all the recent evidence from Frontiers, Prime, and IDW have me convinced that they're retconning in a reason for the redesign. The pieces were all laid out early on in Adventure and Sonic X like you mentioned, I just think they're finally doing something with them.
Please do a bendy theory. And while I know you said maybe only about the first game as batds was a big letdown, I'm here to say bendy and the dark revival is a big step up from those two games. It has Improved animations, upgraded models, Henry gets a physical appearance, the ink demon starts talking and more. And if it interests you, joey Drew studios are making a rebrand of batds called Bendy: lone wolf. It will upgrade EVERYTHING in batds. There are also a number of upcoming games like bendy: the cage (which is basically batdr's The Lion King 1½ which focuses on Henry) and a first person shooter called bendy: the silent city. It will also have a likely final third mainline game. And an upcoming film. So please, give bendy another chance.
It honestly bugs me when people use evidence from multiple Sonic continuities to prove a point in one as rules and evidence may be different in nature in those other continuities.
However I actually really like this theory. This may or may not be my newest Sonic headcanon.

Throwing my hat in the ring as someone who knows NOTHING about Sonic: I fully thought Amy was a cat until this video. This is fascinating to me. I thought she was canonically a cat. I didn’t know her species was a fandom mystery. Like the ear shape and snout shape is the exact same as Blaze. I just assumed she was a smaller, younger cat with a stubbier tail. I wonder what the optics are for cat/echidna hybrids in these games are? Great video anyhow!
My real question is... Does Amy have Chaos affinity like the other three hedgehogs and Knuckles? She clearly can detect Sonic's Chaos energy, which is why she confused Shadow for him in SA2 - similar energy because Shadow was designed based on Sonic's prophecied arrival on Angel Island.
