A virtuose Master!!! Besides that, I am really respectful to teachers, such as Juan Serrano and Juan Martin. Owing to them, flamenco is now played worldwide, not only in Spain. Due to them, we do NOT have to go to Spain to learn flamenco. Thank you so much, Masters!!!
I would only get an hour per lesson he always gave me more because I would ask him to just play for me. I am talking about Fresno 1980's through the 90's. Watching him play this brings back such great memories.
I have been a fan of Senor Serrano since I was 12 years old (in 1960). I was browsing in the International Section of my local record shop one day, and came across an album with a cover that had a black background and a handsome young Spaniard playing a guitar. Juan Serrano was 26 at the time, and it was his first album. In the bio on the back, Mr. Serrano was described as a very talented young flamenco guitarist, who was going to be famous some day. I bought the album for two dollars, took it home, and listened to it on my parents' new Hi-Fi. I was enchanted, and became a fan of Mr. Serrano's instantly. That album has traveled the world with me, and I still have it at age 70. What a fantastic surprise to come across Mr. Serrano's music on UA-cam! Thank you for posting this, Jeremy! With friendship and gratitude, Sally Vaughn
wow! so much respect for u! and ur love towards Serrano ! I discovered Juan Serrano in early2004 when I was kinda discovering Flamenco music! but still here on youtube hardly any info or videos? from the so many albums? like the art of the flamenco guitar album! can not find it anywhere. very little info here, same as the song: Patio gitano (Bulerias) I cant find.
I saw him in person many years ago at Santa Clara University. I too had an old LP from when he was very young and when I heard he was playing locally I jumped at the chance. I lost track of him and later learned that he was a professor of music at Fresno State University for many years.
When I was a Senior at CSU Fresno in 2002-3, i took beginning guitar as an elective course for art credit (and bc i love guitar but never had the chance to learn much on my own.) Serrano is an absolute GENIUS! He is an incredible teacher, engaging, enthralling, humurous, humble, and TALENTED! We sat in a somewhat small area around him in the class, and it was incredible to see him this in person twice a week for 5 months! I am forever grateful!
@@spencerserrano4462 Dear Spencer: I just read your reply to my comment about your Grandfather. Thank you so much for sending it to me, and thank your Grandfather so much for asking you to reply. I learned flamenco from a guy who was a student of Juan's and while I don't play as much as I used to I'm proud that I can be connected to such a wonderful musician.
Well, still being a young American student of Flamenco. The more I listen to a variety of performers the more I appreciate the more traditional guitarist's, the sound of the 50's and 60's Flamenco's. Though I love the music of these "Virtuoso's" they don't move me like many older artists, Serrano's playing makes me want to jump out of my chair and stomp my feet. While Vicente Amigo puts me to sleep. I also think the "solo flamenco guitar" is overdone these days.
Actually, Juan has normal sized hands. This kind of mastery of the guitar comes from a lifetime of devotion and study (having played with a veritable lists of "who's who" doesn't hurt either!). Juan also has a natural gift of rhythm and musicality that few possess. This is just a small example of why Juan is known as "The King Of The Flamenco Guitar".
I swear if every guitar player started playing by learning Flamenco they would be so much better. The timing the accents the build up of tension everything you need to bring the listener in. You can listen to a whole and not get tired and forget that there is no singing no bass no drums just one man and his guitar
As a metalhead and fellow guitarist, all I can do is bow my head in reverence to a true god among men. I hope to be half that good someday, if I'm lucky. Although I'm a fan of heavy metal, I prefer to hear the guitar as it was meant to played.
Cepero is one of my absolute favorites, he is such a master. I particularly like him because still being a student he plays in a way I can understand. Though I also love Jose Merce and Moraito.
"Paco took lessons from Juan Serrano. Don't ever compare a legend like Juan Serrano to other guitar greats. Serrano was a true legend and pioneer of flamenco and he was the first to be on the cover of guitar magazine." right on Kung Fu Master.
Juan was ofcaurse one of Paco De Lucias' very biggest idols along with Nino Ricardo who was Pacos' father school and, Pacos' first big hero. Paco De Lucias' big heros said by hmself wer, Nino Ricardo, Sabicas, Mario Escudero, Juan Serrano and Victor Monje Serranito. The reason he did mention Manolo Sanlucar there whom ofcaurse is one of the all-time greats and, great teachers along with Juan and, Mario Escudero, who were great teacher also, is because Paco and Manolo were comptemporaries. Juan ofcaurse was Juan and he was the first flamenco guitarist to earn a doctors' degree in music, he was the only one using the pinky finger in his right hand in the arpeggios, alot of guitarists still can't do that one, Juan started a new rasguedo which was more sophistacted the old one everybody was still using,
Paco De Lucia didn't full time take lesson with Juan or Sabicas or Nino Ricardo or any of his big idols, in Juans' case, Juan told me himself that he knows Paco since Paco was a very young kid and tyhat when Juan lived in nyc, if Paco was in town he would cvome around Juans' apartment and, maybe Juan would give him a few tips. But, it was never really like Juan was ever his teacher. Ofcaurse Paco admired Juan very much and, Juan was one of his very big influences. Juans' been a very big influence on me and, many flamenco guitarists. Ofcaurse Juan has been one of the big, big monsters of the flamenco guitar history. JUAN SERRANOS' BIGGEST FAN TEDDY.
In the documentary about juan serrano, he said that there are 3 main techniques to flamenco: the rasqueo, the tremolo and the scales. And he always uses all three in his pieces. I really haven't heard any of his songs that, for example, didn't contain tremolo.
Juan Serrano is an amazing musician.... No words to describe what happen here... . But I still consider Paco Peña or Sabicas as above in the flamenco art...
most flamenco guitars have an acrylic tap plate that protects the guitar from scratches dents and other damage, but its hard to tell if the guitar he is playing has one or not
@eldelacerda He is very good. But how can we decide on one "King of the Flamenco Guitar"? I believe there are many kings - Ramón Montoya, Sabicas, Niño Ricardo, Diego del Gastor, Paco de Lucía...etc.
in 2:53 he introduces a theme which i've hearded before in autumn leaves. Chet atkins interpretation of Autumn leaves is the concrete example i'm thinking of; it sounds tremendously similar. So, does anyone know the origins of this melodic theme, is it a kind of 'folkmuzic' ?
00bean00 He’s my grandpa, is very simple make a regular a minor cord in 1st position and on the first string instead of open E it is a F (first Fret on the E string)
I went to see him at Town Hall in NYC in 1963. At the age of 17, it was one of the most exciting nights of my life. Truly a master.
Wow respect!! Still alive and listening to flamenco guitar
wow
Tiene un toque asi como melancolico... me encanta. Pelos de punta, si señor! Ole , viva España hostia!!
Out of all the flamenco guitar players newer and older. Juan had the cleanest rasgueados in the business.
THIS IS THE BEST, I CAN LISTEN TO THIS A BILLION TIMES, I WOULD STILL THINK THIS RECORDING PIECE IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND BEST FLAMENCO SONG EVER.
Me he aprendido Blazing Guitar y muchas cansiones mas de Juan Serrano y creo estar en buenas manos al estar estudiando su musica. Ole!!! Maestro Juan

I can only say that This Man you see here has worked very hard To become soo good . dont be so surprised people.
Amazing phrasing. The clarity of separation of different voices here sounds almost classical.
