    I have heard that most of the sirens that are used to warn people of tornadoes in the central and southeastern United States were originally installed as air raid warning sirens during the Cold War.

      interesting

    • @gunny7769
      @gunny7769 2 роки тому +3

      nopeee there just tornado sirens, the guy in joplin talked about how they lost a custom 400lbs sirenn that still has never been found to this day. im sure some cities have used cold war sirens as warnings but its the same as tsuanmi warnings, its multipurpose.

    • @clovergreen9959
      @clovergreen9959 2 роки тому +1

      In Oklahoma City, they predate the Cold War period. The sirens were the same kind used in WWII in London air raids.
      The story I was told, was that many English fighter pilots were originally trained to fly in Oklahoma.
      That is probably why sirens were installed so quickly after the war. The pilots saw the need for air raid warnings because of tornadoes.
      They were absolutely terrifying when I was a 3 year old. By the time I was 4 I had learned to adjust.

    Thank you guys. Great footage and great editing. Most of us will never have the opportunity to go storm chasing. I live in southeast Pennsylvania...25 minutes from Philadelphia. We get snow storms that last for days and we also get violent thunderstorms that produce damaging wind...but NOTHING like this. It's almost magical...the footage you've captured. Thx again and be safe...

    One little bit of criticism i do want to share. Im not sure if it was just your camera zooming in or not but you guys seemed to have gotten way way too close for comfort, especially in that last tornado. Like, it appeared like you guys were filming from inside the RFD and then decided to move closer. Like i appreciate the cool footage you guys got and were able to share with us but please please please be safe out there. Tornadoes are very pretty but incredibly dangerous and we dont need to have any more storm chaser casualties.
