    One major difference between this one and Outpost 31 that is not mentioned in the video is this one has a solo, 2, and 3 player variant gameplay. You don't have to have a minimum of 4 players to play.

    Mentioned that all but 1 could be the thing..meaning automatic loss....this game is harder to win as human then outpost 31 by the sound of it..it has interesting ideas but end execution may be determined by dogs or too many sabotage cards or accidentally picking up an infection token at the last moment

    Don't like the card mechanic for infection. Would have been cooler if they had done it similar to Nemesis, where maybe you check for infection periodically after interacting with elements using one of those red cellophane "readers'. That way YOU don't even know if you've been infected. Minor quibble. Definitely backing...got a space waiting for it right next to my Big Trouble in Little China game.

      Our group likes Who Goes There?, but felt pretty meh about Outpost 31... this looks better, but the win conditions make me worry that there is no reason for the thing to sabotage, because keeping suspicion down is the best chances to get on board at the end, which makes it a win, no matter how many humans are on board.

  • @PrinceGastronome
    @PrinceGastronome 3 роки тому +1

    It looks like a mashup of the two other games, but mostly Infection at Outpost 31.

  • @Replect
    @Replect 3 роки тому +3

    It sounds interesting, but that final step of choosing who to let on board and one left behind human or more so one thing on board will have you loose the game kills it kinda. It gives the thing every reason to just play like the good guy (like for real), not even trying to sabotage, because their chances to get on board are high not having caused any suspicion throughout the game...
    That's at least my first thoughts after watching this.

    • @arthursimsa9005

      can deny this. Had a first game today and there seems to be little gameplay incentive for the Thing not to play "innocent", except that players can designate and massively vote, so that everyone's blood gets checked at least once. So I think in the end the Thing should rather play a mixed approach.

      They can’t just invent characters. It’s a licensed IP. They will have very strict guidelines of what they can & can’t do. Usually that includes available characters. Not in the movie not happening.

    • @coreywilliams8568
      @coreywilliams8568 3 роки тому

      @@silentassassin2000 yeah, I cannot speak to whether or not there was such an agreement, but in movies, characters are gender-bent, race-bent, etc. all the time. The main thing is you keep the essence of who the character is; imo, it would make the game more appealing across a larger demographic. I have seen a few games take backlash this year bc they lack representation, and the excuse that someone was just trying to be accurate to the history of the time or true to the source material usually doesn't suffice. I am not even a leftist, but it seems even for me, they possibly missed an opportunity here (assuming it were possible).

    • @silentassassin2000

      The game will probably be 6months to a year late for various licensing approvals for things that ARE in the movie, never mind stuff that differs from the source.

    Too many Phases (6 in all) and sub-phases, too many fiddly things like oil barrels, blocks, tokens, tracks, weather dice, etc.
    The game has been over complicated with too many added mechanisms, do we really need another "Worker Placement" Game?
    I find this abhorrent as it's an over-used mechanic in games because a designer wanted to add yet another dynamic to a game...why?
    It almost seems like someone wanted to make this game play like Dead of Winter. This game strays from the theme sacrificing it for processes. I'll be keeping The Thing Outpost 31
