Lovely Mariners podcast for a Tuesday afternoon!
And I agree, the problem with having so few off days in the first half is not getting to watch our team as much from now on! 🤣
I was sitting in the Kingdome on Opening Day. Thanks for another great bantering, guys! Tridents are up!
The J & Sur pod is one of my favorites
M's hitting .209 vs lefties as opposed to .225 vs. righties. OPS .650 vs .674, so lefties definately cause us more trouble. I see the M's sent Zavala down, so Locklear stays for now. Great collaboration once again! Thanks, guys!
Go mariners! Today is the day we gotta start to change things around and gotta get better. And also need to upgrade before the deadline too!🔱💙💛
If we need to fill a lefty slot in the pen, Moyer is going to be available soon. His fastball is up to 75mph last time reported
A likely story . . . 11:32 ( ans, as 'the evil' characters have always said on cue; /muwhahahaa! ) In my best Boris Badenov impression. (Remember, the Mariners have The Moose!)
Hypothesis: SUR and D-Mo are the same person
We just need to tread water going into the all-star break and that will be huge pressure on the other division teams. 7-9 games, unless the Mariners go on a big losing streak is difficult to make up.
Look....what the Mariners try to do is:
1). Allow 3-runs and under per game.
2). Run the pitch count up on an opponent. Such as when Josh Rojas did it in that 14 at bat pitch count. He didn't get a hit or walk. But it did have an effect on the outcome of the game.
When any team does that, they are extremely difficult to beat. Because, that style of play is a form of applying constant pressure on an opponent.
If any team can force 25 pitches per inning. By the 4th, that opponent has thrown 100 pitches. And along the way, they will begin to make mistakes. Such as when Josh Rojas was on 2nd and that pitcher threw past the catcher and the ball went to the backstop. And Rojas scored from second.
Plus the accuracy of the pitches isn't the same as a fresh arm. Look at the pitch count as an invisible offensive club that doesn't score. But it constantly wears on that arm.
In the history of baseball, there is one statistic that is telling. It's defense that consistently wins games:
0-run allowed = a 💯 win ratio.
1-run allowed = a 90% win reatio.
2-runs allowed = a 80% win ratio .
3-runs allowed = a 70% win ratio.
Allowing 4-runs and over. You're not going to win constantly.
Also, teams are going to have days where their not hitting very well. That Will happen. And so how a team can counter that lull in hitting.
Is by playing great defense and running that pitch count up. Trust me, at some point, they will break thru and score enough runs.
Let's hope the "slump" is just a 5-5 stretch.
Did you catch Jomboy's video on Cal'a non-ejection and grand slam.
That was hilarious especially the "I was up till 330 in the morning last night" and then even better when the ump said" yeah sometimes I'm just horseshit" scott definately earned some respect from me for how he handled all that and how it turned out
P.S. or wait until Jaime Moyer returns
