I admire your range of reading, Emma. Most UA-camrs merely read books that are popular at the time, but you read everything from classics to the latest releases! I've been binge-watching all of your videos for the past few months, and you have helped me discover books that I never would have found (or taken longer to find).

I also started reading Frankenstien in the month of January and love it so much. I have underlined so many passages, circled so many words, and just love Mary Shelley's writing overall. I'm only 25% through but think it'll be a 5 star for me too.
My favourite read of January was Agatha Christie's, Murder on the Orient Express. It was a fun read, with a fantastic ending - perhaps the best concluding paragraph I've read to date. I think I'll read Death on the Nile and then go watch the film.

I started reading "Snow Country" because of this channel. And I love it!!! Looking forward to checking out more recommendations and featured books found here. Thank you, Emma ! I've only read 3 full books in January. "Golden Lads" by Daphne du Maurier, because I am obsessed with the Shakespeare authorship question. I find the Stratfordian 'theory' to be idiotic and just silly. Therefore I am a Baconian hahahah!! Also Goethe's "Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship and Travels". I enjoyed it but I think a lot of people would find it dated and overly dramatic and too focused on theatricality. And also I just read so much about art and architecture. I'm not going to read Banister Fletcher's comparative architecture book in it's entirety, but I have read large chunks of it.

@@emmiereads I read "The Sorrows of Young Werther" quite a while ago when I was more susceptible to those romantic flights as featured in the book. And I ended up going through a rather tumultuous break-up shortly thereafter. I've always thought Goethe was obsessive as a lover which does make things interesting. Eventually last year I read "Elective Affinities" which starts off great and has many intriguing aspects through the first half, but I should warn you by the end I was just baffled. It felt frustratingly half-baked in ways that seemed almost as if someone else had finished it, or that he had rushed it before heading out to a luncheon gathering hahahah,,,

@@emmiereads I tried Mars by Fuyumi Soryo, and I loved it ! It’s a love story between an artist and a racer, both dealing with heavy trauma . Some parts aged quite weirdly thought ! I also read Last Quarter by Ai Yazawa ! It’s not as well known as Yazawa’s other mangas, and it’s also really short but I found it beautiful! It’s about a group of children trying to solve a mystery, and it’s also about ghosts, love and memory. I also read Sakamichi No Apollon, by Yuki Kodama. It’s a slice of life, we follow a solitary high schooler arriving in a new town in the 60s, and forming friendships through music and jazz ! It was really sweet !

The wheel of time was my comfort place through the pandemic. I’ve read one volume each month and as a huge Lord of the rings fan I can say that The wheel of time became one of my favorite fantasy series. The magic system will get better and better, the story will shift from lotr. Somewhere in the between books 6 and 10 the story starts to get boring but book 11 and 12 are the best books in the series in my opinion. I really wonder what you think about them :) Also Nynaeve, Moiraine, Perrin and Lan are my favorites too. It really is rewarding to see such female characters in high fantasy.

I'm excited to hear that you are also trying to focus on your physical TBR this year, as I am doing the same! I would love videos on your physical TBR (whether that's how many, what genres they are, what series/books in particular you want to finish this year). I know I really want to read a lot of books that have been "stale" on my shelves for a while and determine whether I want to keep them when I move after college!

By the end of the video, I was laughing because I love Ice cream cake, Tolstoy's short stories and Mrs. Dalloway is one of my favourite books ever lol. But it always fascinates me to think about how we can all love and hate the same things, why? from where does it all come from? etc, etc. Anyway, how can you manage to read so much in a month?! I wish I could be like you Emma :D

🕯 I had so many great reads in January this year! My first was Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr and it was an absolutely wonderful masterpiece, especially for those that love reading. It’s a tri-time period piece so it can get crazy but it’s totally worth it!
I also read Wundersmith in the middle of my reads and my love for the Nevermoor series really took of with this one. I haven’t started the next book yet, I’m gonna give it some time, but I absolutely love it!
And then I just finished at the end of the month All the Light We Cannot See, also by Anthony Doerr. A truly remarkable historical fiction look at WWII that I found really timely to read right now during the middle of the pandemic. I absolutely loved this one too, highly recommend!

But i also gave norwegian wood and the curious incident of the dog in the nighttime 5 stars, too, soooo… hard to pick!
