Ya I always recommend the studio version when someone is hearing a group for the first time, this song being the exception! The live concert version is amazing!

There are two bands, with which you should always go with the live versions: Iron Maiden and The Warning are better live in my opinion.

Even after close to 40 years, this never gets old for me. IMHO the album version is a great introduction to this piece because of the amazing vocals, but watching their live concerts adds another dimension, they put on a great show.

And in the future, when you react to more Maiden videos (and I hope you do), try to do a live version. To watch these guys perform is truly an amazing thing. UP THE IRONS!!!!!🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟

    SO. GOOD.
Don't sleep on the galloping bass, an Iron Maiden trademark. You're going to be hit with a TON of recco's because this band knows how to tell a story, hit history and mythology, and darkness. Then they back it up musically. I'll just leave you is my vote's for "Powerslive." Up the irons!

Very good break down of this song musically and especially lyrically. This song is one of their most well known. Best version is live at Hammersmith 1982.
I've been listening to Iron Maiden since 1982, at the age of 15. To give you a complete list of Iron Maiden recommendations, see my list below.
    Iron Maiden currently is:
Bruce Dickinson - Vocals Born: August 7, 1958 (age 63 years) Started with Iron Maiden in 1981, left in 1993 and rejoined in 1999 and present singer
Steve Harris - Bassist and Founder Born: March 12, 1956 (age 66 years), Started the band in 1975 and has never left
    Dave Murray - Guitarist Born: December 23, 1956 (age 65 years), 1976-1977, 1978- present
    Adrian Smith - Guitarist Born: February 27, 1957 (age 65 years), 1980-1990, 1999-present
    Janick Gers - Guiarist Born: January 27, 1957 (age 65 years), 1990 - present
    Nicko McBrain - Drums Born: June 5, 1952 (age 69 years), 1982 - present
Highlight of songs I'd recommend are:
    From Iron Maiden------
Phantom of the Opera - A must for live version
Strange World (this one will be totally different Iron Maiden)
    From Killers ------
Murders in the Rue Morgue (Very loosely influenced by Edgar Allen Poe's short story, a story of a fugitive being sought for murder)
Genghis Khan (an instrumental - perfect for air drumming)
Innocent Exile (continues the theme of Murders in the Rue Morgue of an unjustly accused fugitive)
Killers (A journey into the twisted mind of a deranged killer)
Prodigal Son(about a repentant man reminiscent of the prodigal son parable found in Luke 15 of the bible)
Purgatory(lyrics of song read like a poem)
Drifter (focuses on the possibility of new beginnings)
From The Number of the Beast------
Invaders (It graphically depicts the violence and horror of a defense against a Viking invasion)
The Prisoner (based on the UK television series that ran briefly in the late 1960’s)
22 Acacia Avenue (The continuation of Charlotte the Harlot)
The Number of the Beast (Inspired by a dream Bassist Steve Harris had after watching the movie the Omen2)
Run to the Hills (about the European arrival in America told from the perspective of both the oppressed Cree and the invading Anglo-Saxon soldiers)
Hallowed be Thy Name (about a man who is about to be put to death and what he goes through)
    From Piece of Mind------
Where Eagles Dare (based on an Alistair Maclean novel, (1967), and film (1968) about a WWII rescue of an American general from a Nazi stronghold in the Bavarian Alps
Revelations (Starts with the Hymnal from Oh God of Earth and Alter, the next two verses on the Hindu philosophy, the third verse in Yoga a snake called Kundalini that lives at the base of your spinal cord, during meditation a spiritual entity is created symbolizing the transcendental union with God)
Flight of Icarus (loosely based on the ancient Greek myth of Icarus)
The Trooper (based on the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava 1854,which took place during the Crimean War)
To Tame a Land (the song relays the story of Paul Atreides, Paul Muad'Dib, from the book Dune by Frank Herbert)
    From Powerslave------
Aces High (about aircraft dog fighting between the British and German fighter pilots of WWII)
2 Minutes to Midnight - About the Doomsday clock for the End of the World
Back in The Village (The continuation of the song The Prisoner)
Powerslave (about an arrogant pharaoh in his dying hours, he can't understand why he's about to die and fights it in vain)
Rime of the Ancient Mariner - (From the poem of the same name by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (story about about an ocean voyage)
    From Somewhere in Time-------
Wasted Years (A song about the admonition to appreciate the present and not to take things for granted)
The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (based on a short story of Alan Sillitoe which was made into a 1962 film
Alexander the Great (About the story of Alexander the Great
From 7th Son of a 7th Son (a concept album)------
Infinite Dreams (Detailing someone who is tormented by paranormal dreams and nightmares)
The Evil That Men Do (Title taken from a quote in Shakespeare Julius Caesar but the song is unrelated)
The Clairvoyant (relates the reflections of the 7th Son of the 7th Son on his life and his powers)
    From Fear of the Dark------
Wasting Love (About the emptiness of relationships without love. Another Maiden ballad)
Fear of the Dark (About being afraid of the dark and the things in the dark that might be there - absolute a live performance for this one)
    From Brave New World------
The Wicker Man (about the apathy of our modern society and our egotistic disinterest of what is happening until something happens to us)
Ghost of the Navigator (The lyrics are a metaphor of life, with the ship sailing west towards the setting sun representing death)
Brave New World (Loosely based on the 1932 novel by Aldous Huxley)
Dream of Mirrors (Yet another song about reoccurring and maybe premonitory dreams)
Out of the Silent Planet (Supposedly inspired by the 1956 science -fiction film Forbidden Planet)
    From Dance of Death------
No More Lies (The lyrics deal with someone knows his time has come with the possibility of reincarnation)
Dance of Death (Orinally inspired by Ingmar Bergman's 1957 film The Seventh Seal - Another one to do as a live performance)
Paschendale (about the Battle of Passchendaele during WWI)
From A Matter of Life and Death------
Brighter than a Thousand Suns (About the dawn of the nuclear bomb age)
The Longest Day (about the WWII Normandy Invasion)
Out of the Shadows (Questioning the meaning of life)

Glad to see you got around to making your first Maiden reaction! If you decide to react to another Maiden track I would recommend that you try listening to a live version. Iron Maiden is one of those bands that puts just as much work into showmanship as they do their music and the vocalist Bruce Dickinson is a prime example of that.

1982 'BEAST OVER HAMMERSMITH' Live performance of this song is quite possibly the best rock live performance of all time.. Bruce Dickinson holds a 13 minute high noted belt. Musician's are in complete synchronicity and the drum performance is mind blowing

    • @tonys2899
      @tonys2899 Рік тому

@@mournblade1066 in my opinion it is their best song both lyrically and musically. I want him the hear their best.. and I don't feel it's drawn out at all. When I listen to it I usually play it at least 2x because it's over too soon! Y
You must have a short attention span. That's actually one of the shorter songs I recommend to people. I always start with the 25 min masterpiece Supper's Ready by Genesis, the the 25 min Raider11 by Steven Wilson and then the 17 minute Anesthetize by Porcupine Tree. By comparison, Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner is a REALLY SHORT song!

The Iron Maiden rabbit hole is very deep, and I hope you can explore it from end to end -- Bruce Dickinson is one of the greatest vocalists and storytellers in the history of heavy metal, and he's surrounded by excellent musicians... And that's TWO lead guitarists -- Adrian Smith and Dave Murray -- who play for Iron Maiden...
Another band I highly recommend to check out is Saxon -- they've also been around for 40-plus years and they sound even better now than they did in the early '80s, with a vocalist who sounds even stronger now (highly recommend more recent albums like Thunderbolt, or Sacrifice, or the classic Denim and Leather from 1981)...

..and it's their last album with Clive Burr on drums. (Their next album 'Piece of Mind' (1983) is their first with Nicko on drums (He's still with them to this day) ..and right off the bat they showcase what he can do with the first track 'Where Eagles Dare)-(Which was based on a novel, that became a movie, co-starring Clint Eastwood)

There’s 2 lead guitarists. One is more classic metal and the others a bit more bluesy. The drummer is (was) fantastic - great groove and heavy handed. The bass player is the glue though. He holds all their songs together and gives them their distinctive sound. The lead singer - one of the best.

Iron Maiden is the best live band ever. They use two lead guitarists that play off of each other. Now days they tour with three guitarists. One had left and was replaced, but years later wanted to come back and the band welcomed him, but didn't want to get rid of his replacement so their concerts have just tons of guitar goodness.

your outro music is very reminiscent of Chris Botti.... A Thousand Kisses Deep Lp is a great place to start.

Iron Maiden's songs tend to be more unusual and rather deeper than most bands songs. Numnber of the Beast which is the title track of that album is very famous as is Run to the Hills which explores both sides views of the same event. I would highly recommend Bruce Dickonson's song (Iron Maiden's lead singer) Years of the Dragon.

Hammersmith live performance is the best introduction to iron maiden. Pick any track, they are all brilliant

You can pick any song off the Number of the beast album and be blown away. Btw there are two lead guitarists in this band at this point, today there are three.

    /,,/ !
    Keep discovering man!
Their 3rd thru 7th albums are choc full of what is essentially 'gold' (Number, Piece, Somewhere, Powerslave, Brave New World) their best stuff, imo.
There's a lot to discover with this band. Look into 'Flight 666' the whole story is epic.

Steve Harris is a master at writing lyrics and Bruce Dickinsons voice is one of the best there ever was. Can we talk about his breath control at the beginning- im shocked you didn’t pause right then and ask how long he held that note! Lol
