My wife has had several Mercedes and I now have my first one, a GLS450 4matic. I was fearful at first too to own a Mercedes, but there is a simple solution. If you really love MB, which we do, then simply get an Endurance warranty. Ours is bumper to bumper and only costs $120 a month each. I am no longer afraid of any problems. All of our MBs were bought used at a very reasonable price for a MB.
@@jacksongil9123 Most of those kind of warranties won't cover normal wear items, such as brakes, oil changes, tires, etc. And many aren't worth the paper they're printed on. They make money by denying claims, as so many buyers of them have said. For an example, look up "Penn Warranty Complaints".

Right Hugh! These are best left at certified pre-owned vehicles. I wouldn't touch a brand new one for their insane prices that drop like a stone in less than a year. I'd avoid any used 2020-2022 models as well. No telling what features they left out from the chip shortage.

Yes, I found that certain tech is just a little too unreliable. Heads up display is also a pain because the windshield is so much more expensive when it’s time to change it.

I suggest people take their Mercedes Benz to the dealer for the transmission oil change ! It worth the money and save your headache! All other maintenance, you can get it done yourself!
Oh, and after the warranty is expired on a German luxury car going to a dealer is a real waste of money. My local dealer charges $225 US an hour. My Indy charges $115 US.
I am looking at buying a C300. I am a retired mechanic, but I can still do some of my own repairs. I was not familiar with the turbo 4cyl engine, so I wanted to hear about any issues. Glad to hear you still love yours!
Hi Michael, as a newer type engine, time will tell on durability and it’s a great runner with awesome economy and solid performance as a daily. Better yet, as you say, if you can fix some yourself.
All OBDII Mercedes models require Xentry diagnosis software and that’s too expensive for average people to buy, the best suggestion for people want to own solid built, easy to DIY are the models built prior to 1997! Take my word, W124, W210, W126, W129, W140 can run forever! OBDII models are big money pits!
Well said. I bought my 2013 CLS63 AMG as a lease return. I saved a lot of money from the original price. Even though depreciation has brought the value down, it still is a pleasure to drive. And in today’s market, the dealer wants it back since used cars are scarce.
I was lucky enough to have bought a cpo 2014 e350 4matic coupe with 32k kms with MB's 2 yr extended no deduction warranty. Asked the dealer to throw in new winters on separate rims with a 3 yr service pkg, all in for under 50k. Four years later, no problems yet 🙏 as it's not turboed or have run flats.
Great update Mark, quality is a lost art in commodities today and over pricing. I still a sweet tooth for an X6, however, life’s to short not to enjoy a few moments ❤️ Thank you for sharing 🇨🇦🍻
Right on target about the reason premium used cars are cheap. Most premium car buyers will only buy new, and most used car buyers need something affordable. Also, most buyers, new or used, need financing. That might be difficult to do for an expensive used car. Even though I will spend more on an old car than most new cars cost, I will get an exceptional, like-new car for a fraction of what the first owner paid. Maybe I have just been lucky so far, but maintenance costs have not been an issue. My SL500 was about 8 years old when I bought it for about 1/6 it’s MSRP. It’s now 22 years old and works, runs and looks like new. My F-type R was 3 years old when I paid half its original price.
Three years ago I bought a BMW X3 20d 2008, with 195,000 km, 7000euro now = USD, now 217,000 km. Afterwards I have found out that the parts are still quite cheap for this car. Almost everything is simple built, a quite good DIY car at the end.
In the US Military in Germany we drove Mercedes trucks and they got treated just like US trucks. Expensive over there too. The military drove only newer vehicles too. You should see a Mercedes stake-bed pickup.....it was like a Model T pickup hahaha
The brake pad explanation from the dealer sounds a little flaky to me. However, I find the genuine pads to be very dirty and have swapped mine to aftermarket ceramic pads that are both cheaper and cleaner. I can tell no difference other than cleaner wheels. Never had a squeaking problem.
I just bought my first Mercedes a month ago, 18’ GLC 300. Absolutely love it. Cracks me up seeing people dog MB when they clearly have never owned one. Typical “well I heard…” lol.
Modern Mercedes vehicles have built-in systems that help manage the cool-down process automatically. These systems continue running the engine for a short period after the key is turned off to ensure proper cooling. Keeping the engine on for half a minute up to a minute before switching the engine off may not be necessary but it won’t hurt either. So, listen to the advice from the video, just in case.
Yea, MB brakes are squeaky and dusty. Very dusty. And I’m obsessive about clean wheels. You’re right, Mark. They don’t want to compromise the brake performance. I, however, am not driving my cars on the Autobahn or a race track. I put Akebono pads on my 2001 SL500, and I have a different brand, but also claim to be low dust, to put on my 2010 SL63. I had that car in the dealer’s shop for another reason, and asked if they would install those pads. No, They absolutely will not install non-MB parts. I guess that was to be expected. I’ll have to do it myself.
You are totally right David, dealers will generally only use OEM, but clearly there are often many superior aftermarket products available and I also like to make my own decision. Funny thing is, dealers even charge more in some cases for an inferior product
Well if your used to seeing my comments, you know I love my reliable Lexus lol. However, Mercedes is one of the few Euro cars that still catch my eye. They're not built as well as they used to be, but I could say the same for 98% of all the other car manufacturers. These days I look at Mercedes as if you shoved BMW and Lexus into a blender, and this is what you get... sacrifice some reliability for tighter handling, gain a few HP for higher depreciation, etc. But I could be more honest (with my own tastes) and say if money is no option and you want it all, go for the Lexus LC500... the comfort, styling, premium materials and touches, driveability, and reliability will blow those Mercedes out of the water... except in a 1/4-mile lol. But you're not going to be shelling out thousands a year to fix it either.
I saw a video from Car Wizard replaced a PCV valve on a GLA250 for 900$?...Lexus RX350 costs 9$ for the PCV if you can DIY..hehehe I just replaced the PCV valve on my 2013 Honda FIT for 7$...and the oem valve still very good with no carbon buildup at 71K miles.
Here is a question. I got my c 250 wagon and dealer as well as the book manual that comes with the car, told me not to warm up the car and just hope in and drive. Why?
If you're buying a used Mercedes, get a German made one. In Germany, everyone drives a Mercedes, even cabbies, so they're built to last longer and take a lot more abuse. In America, the brand is looked upon as classy and high end, whereas in Europe they're work horses. Forget about Mexican or American made models. Look out for models with both the "G. Daimler" sticker on the windshield and the W letter at the start of the VIN number.
May be today's Mercedes cars are not that reliable, have a lot of plastic things under the hood etc. But the comfort, the feeling, the noise insulation, the dynamic, the technologies are on so high level. You can't get those things in Toyota or Honda. I personally own w213 e350d with 83k miles on the clock, with zero problems so far. The engine and the gearbox are well known to be very reliable, which is very important.

I recently went from a 2010 Saab 9-3 2.0T convertible to a 2013 GLK350 4Matic. They’re obviously two completely different things altogether but there’s a definite difference in the level of luxury with the Mercedes. I’m officially in love! Nice looking Mercedes and nice metallic blue. Sorry but a C Class Mercedes is like a Ford Sedan now. Mercedes lost their prestige in 2000 when they amalgamated with Chrysler. I would actually prefer ownership of a Lexus over a Mercedes, BMW or Audi.
Ha! Competition from German car manufacturers? I've owned Mercedes, VW, Audi, and Saab. And I do virtually all of my own maintenance and repair short of replacing an engine or transmission. Mercedes is actually one of the easier cars to work on, but they are all about the same quality (except the Saab which had horrible problems with the throttle body and coil packs). Anyone picking a BMW, Land Rover, Jaguar, Alpha Romeo, etc. over the Mercedes needs to really do their research.
In fact I found you quite funny, too! I like the way you approaching car ownership! I have stayed by BMW (now a x3, 20d, 2008, 217,000 km) for the last 20 years, but I don't think you have a 528i 1996/7! Quite suitable DIY cars by the way!!!
I bought my 15 c300 with 38k miles and it has 91k on it now. Havent had any issues except squeaky brakes which stopped happening after I put miles on it. Probably one of the most realiable cars ive owned. Mind you my car has been hit 3 times and its still going strong.

If I could afford to collect cars like Jay Leno, I can guarantee there'd be at least a couple AMG Mercs in my warehouse if only just for the sound of the AMG V8.
Scotty Kilmer and CarWizard are the cause i only buy Honda, Toyota and Lexus. The other brands are useless garbage in comparison, no one will last 500 thousand miles with only basic maintenance like a Toyota or a Honda.
I recently got a 2010 C300 Luxury (W204) with 37000 miles for $11,000. I got it to deter some miles off of my 2018 F-150 Already had the battery die and need to get my trans fluid changed. Drives like I'm riding on a cloud, but that Mercedes tax (service cost) is a big ol punch in the nuts. 😂😂😂
Yep, I am done with Mercdes and BMW. I wouldn't buy one again. I would probably buy a Toyota Corolla or Camry for price and reliability and keep it 10 years plus changing the oil every 10,000 kms (6,000 miles).
"Lexus doesn't have the same driving experience".# Where can you use the driving experience with the bad state of the roads, speed cameras and traffic police? The ride of these BMW, Mercedes and Audis are hard. The ride of the Lexus is generally softer and more comfortable and handling suffers as a result. However, when it comes to service, you get a smile on your face compared to the Mercdes, BMW and Audi.
Hi Mark, I am thinking of buying a certified 2019 Mercedes Benz s class with 2000 miles mileage and 2019 audi a8 with 6000 miles of mileage. Both around 70,000 dollars. What do you think?
I own a 2017 S550 and it has been awesome. Just do maintenance on it; don't drive like a maniac and always let those turbos cool down before turning it off. The comments I get are a bonus too. You will really enjoy the ride and luxury.
I like Japanese parts prices and jobber parts I have choice, in Germany are the domestic parts cheaper than Japanese parts or is it still just as expensive?
The brake pads squeal because they made them too small for the rotor, so when they are deployed, they wear the roter down unevenly, so you are forced to buy roters and pads each time you need brakes. Huge engineering to make service people and manufacturers lots of money on the sly. nasty corporations do nasty things.
At least your Mercedes C class coupe isn’t the W203 year ranges from 2001-2007 which is the year range Tyler Hoover from Hoovies garage calls the “Cheap Class” C class
Reason. Number 1 European car innovation faster then any brand also change more power . Something why toyota Lexus price won’t go down? Because they do upgrade every 10 years 😥 while euro car do real upgrade every 3 year
For anyone that has time to spend few hours on UA-cam watching videos , you can easily learn how to do your own oil changes . Spar plugs are very cheap and easy to change . Brakes , you can order pads and discs online and do it yourself too. None of that requiers you to be a mechanic . I started learning everything and buying my own tools after I took my BMW to a local European car mechanic and they charged me $230 for it . Fuck that ! Never again . A good quality oil around cost you $30 and oil filter $15 .
If your car is out of warranty why would you take it to the stealerships at near $200 an hour? Better find a trusty independent that will charge you a fraction of that amount.
The local Indy’s by my experience, at least the ones with a BMW reputation are strategically charging on the cusp of what the dealer is so there traditionally have been few benefits. I just shake my head.
@@ECPP Personally I don't understand mechanics in the US and Canada with their extortionate rates. Here an ex BMW trained tech cost me around 40€ an hour. Recently I had the water pump timing chain and all ancillaries done my 2017 Golf TDI which only cost me 100€ in labour. I suspect if I was in the US / Canada that would be more like $500?
My question I have that I don't see alot of answer too on UA-cam with these cars are.... after warranty are there any repairs maintenance plans available for the vehicles (mercedes and bmws)??? Are they worth it, do they save you out of pocket expenses on 4-5yr old German made vehicles??? I'm looking at purchasing one....
For what it's worth, in my experience I have found with other cars I owned, that it was cheaper to just start a savings account dedicated solely to vehicle repairs rather than getting an after market warranty. Most times, they don't cover the repairs and the expense of keeping it up is not worth what you could save. With Mercedes, like any car, if you take care of it and do the required maintenance, it will work for you.
That’s my new sweet spot. A lot of value if you pick the right example, if you do your own wrenching, or if you have a good independent mechanic. All 3 and you’re on your way! ⚠️Life is too short to drive boring cars ✊🏿
Looks like an overweight Lexus No room Cramped And no style They all look the same They made front logo oversized to compensate for inferiority complex "Look at the size of my logo"
The A class and B class variants are gone after this year. Mercedes Benz new strategy is to go after Rolls and Bentley after they realized that going down market was not a wise choice. Additionally the partnership with Nissan/Renault has fallen apart so parts are a problem as well. C class variants are ok for the time being but they may be gone in the future.
It’s non of my business but I thought that Mercedes’ was your wife’s because you have a couple goodie’s of your own. Yes, I understand, you share, she drives what ever she chooses if the Mercedes’ is gone
Because Mercedes are dumping in value dude. Check the supply/demand model: Dude, the demand isn't there bro: They're dumping value. Because people aren't willing to pay more than the amount they are selling for. There are high maintenance cars that hold value, but your Mercedes isn't among them, can you process that? Mercedes are losing 80-90 percent of sticker value after 10 years and going certified worthless at 20 years

I just fell in love with the 2014 CLA. I don’t care I’m still going to get it. I’m not even a fan of Mercedes.
What if I change my own oil considering that i at least buy Mercedes Benz oil that goes with the engine in the car
Yes it’s easy
Which used Mercedes’ sedan model would you recommend buying used ?
I bought my 15 c300 with 38k miles and it has 91k on it now. Havent had any issues except squeaky brakes which stopped happening after I put miles on it. Probably one of the most realiable cars ive owned. Mind you my car has been hit 3 times and its still going strong.
Great informative, educational and helpful video from ECPP as always 👍 🥇 Wait till you find out the prices of cars in my country... new & used 🤦♀️...legal daylight robbery 😱
So is it worth getting a extended warranty Mark, or is that also outrageously expensive.
I got 4 years extended warranty for my BMW cause german cars don't last long especially when driving it hard.
I have a simple rule: do not buy a car you cannot afford to maintain properly.
Right, you bet
I recently got a 2010 C300 Luxury (W204) with 37000 miles for $11,000. I got it to deter some miles off of my 2018 F-150
Already had the battery die and need to get my trans fluid changed.
Drives like I'm riding on a cloud, but that Mercedes tax (service cost) is a big ol punch in the nuts. 😂😂😂
I like the amgs 😁😁
Hi
I have a question what you think about Lexus IS 350 f sport & What’s the issues with it
Lose a guard cluster? How does that happen? Does anyone have any experience with it happening on Toyota?
Yep, I am done with Mercdes and BMW.
I wouldn't buy one again.
I would probably buy a Toyota Corolla or Camry for price and reliability and keep it 10 years plus changing the oil every 10,000 kms (6,000 miles).
I bet Tercels would be good too.
There's a niche for everyone 😎
I'm not afraid to admit those TRD Camry's are sweet lookin'. If I didn't already have too many cars I'd get one.
"Lexus doesn't have the same driving experience".#
Where can you use the driving experience with the bad state of the roads, speed cameras and traffic police?
The ride of these BMW, Mercedes and Audis are hard.
The ride of the Lexus is generally softer and more comfortable and handling suffers as a result.
However, when it comes to service, you get a smile on your face compared to the Mercdes, BMW and Audi.
Lexus is boring and has dated interiors.
Hello, any advice where can I buy used Mercedes Benz?
Only Mercedes models that came out during the marriage with Chrysler were crap. Never buy W220, W211, W209, R170, C219, and W251.
Thanks for sharing
Hi Mark, I am thinking of buying a certified 2019 Mercedes Benz s class with 2000 miles mileage and 2019 audi a8 with 6000 miles of mileage. Both around 70,000 dollars. What do you think?
Both beautiful cars, but between those 2 I would go with the S class. An RS7 might be a harder decision.
I own a 2017 S550 and it has been awesome. Just do maintenance on it; don't drive like a maniac and always let those turbos cool down before turning it off. The comments I get are a bonus too. You will really enjoy the ride and luxury.
@@erniestarkey8856 thanks 👍👍👍
Good info
Thanks
Ceramic pads squeak that is why
Thanks
I like Japanese parts prices and jobber parts I have choice, in Germany are the domestic parts cheaper than Japanese parts or is it still just as expensive?
i'm not bothered about them squeeling but every time i use the brakes, my hazard lights come on. what's up with that? :-)
love the peacock! ☺
Haha
The brake pads squeal because they made them too small for the rotor, so when they are deployed, they wear the roter down unevenly, so you are forced to buy roters and pads each time you need brakes. Huge engineering to make service people and manufacturers lots of money on the sly. nasty corporations do nasty things.
At least your Mercedes C class coupe isn’t the W203 year ranges from 2001-2007 which is the year range Tyler Hoover from Hoovies garage calls the “Cheap Class” C class
Another reason why I drive domestic vehicles
Reason. Number 1 European car innovation faster then any brand also change more power . Something why toyota Lexus price won’t go down? Because they do upgrade every 10 years 😥 while euro car do real upgrade every 3 year
Car manufacturers should go back to rubber timing belts much more reliable and much cheaper to replace
Ferrari used to run belts and then switched to chains in the mid 2000
For anyone that has time to spend few hours on UA-cam watching videos , you can easily learn how to do your own oil changes . Spar plugs are very cheap and easy to change . Brakes , you can order pads and discs online and do it yourself too. None of that requiers you to be a mechanic . I started learning everything and buying my own tools after I took my BMW to a local European car mechanic and they charged me $230 for it . Fuck that ! Never again . A good quality oil around cost you $30 and oil filter $15 .
Nice video. I can't understand the appeal of any car prone to breaking down.
Thank you
If your car is out of warranty why would you take it to the stealerships at near $200 an hour?
Agree 💯 !!!
Cheers
By the way, your video is much more pleasant at 0.75 speed!
People are lazy, let the turbos cool and warm up probably. Give yourself 3 minutes on startup and cooldown
Cheers
Sherman tanks were one of the crappiest tanks ever produced. Panzers on the other hand
Thank you for that Jacki
just buy an mercedes w123 w124 w201 w126 diesel
Thanks
That’s my new sweet spot. A lot of value if you pick the right example, if you do your own wrenching, or if you have a good independent mechanic. All 3 and you’re on your way!
⚠️Life is too short to drive boring cars
✊🏿
Great guy, knowledgeable, and handsome even but stop the tough guy hitting and head-butting shit. It demeans your great channel. A fan for sure.
Looks like an overweight Lexus
No room
Cramped
And no style
They all look the same
They made front logo oversized to compensate for inferiority complex
"Look at the size of my logo"
Want a luxury car?
BUY A LEXUS
They are dependable
I think I will stick to my Lexus
Good call
The A class and B class variants are gone after this year. Mercedes Benz new strategy is to go after Rolls and Bentley after they realized that going down market was not a wise choice. Additionally the partnership with Nissan/Renault has fallen apart so parts are a problem as well.
C class variants are ok for the time being but they may be gone in the future.
Facts
It’s non of my business but I thought that Mercedes’ was your wife’s because you have a couple goodie’s of your own. Yes, I understand, you share, she drives what ever she chooses if the Mercedes’ is gone
Absolutely it’s the wife’s car
German car are not what they were poorly made on the cheap now
Things have changed
Because Mercedes are dumping in value dude. Check the supply/demand model: Dude, the demand isn't there bro: They're dumping value. Because people aren't willing to pay more than the amount they are selling for. There are high maintenance cars that hold value, but your Mercedes isn't among them, can you process that? Mercedes are losing 80-90 percent of sticker value after 10 years and going certified worthless at 20 years
Ask about Mercedes-Benz to Scotty Kilmer!🤣
Endless money pits as they age!
Still gonna buy it lol
Nice
Money pit!
nice
