It's because it's one of the few every year that feel like actual songs and not Eurovision displays turned into songs. Idk how to explain it. Like it's not playing an "Eurovision" role as a song. Or whatever

So, I'm Bulgarian & my ex is Greek, two bordering countries & I must say this entry is the MOST Greek thing I have seen from Greece in the last 10 years! This is stellar! It's my Number 2 of the year & I can ABSOLUTELY see this being Top 5 if on the night people vibe with some Greek/Balkan ethnic sounds.

Never been into Eurovision but I find myself watching just because of Nova and Olympia. I love this song from Greece. Have no idea what she was singing about but loved the video and vibe.
Marina great singer, a soprano herself , producing, dancing, singing, rapping ! A great musician , a big talent, a kind personality! There is no other song that can represent more "united by music". So many elements and cultures combined in a very modern and inspirational way! They are preparing something unique on stage that we have never seen in Eurovision! Wait and see! greek here: i'd say it's been controversial among older folks, but young people love it !! she's been charting 1st on spotify for a week now, which has only been achieved once before by a female solo artist :) i think that's the best part about it !! like... yes there's controversy but it means that people are TALKING about it. we haven't cared about one of our entries in what feels like over a decade, and it's so cool to see it finally happen, and with a song that's so obnoxiously and unashamedly greek. i'm so proud that this is representing us, regardless of how it places, because it's fiiiiiinally us showcasing our ethnic & modern culture

I was so unsure about this one the first time I heard it, and now I've been listening to it practically on repeat for days and I'm only loving it more and more. Really hope this gets the points it deserves.
The woodwind instrument Olympia is asking about is called a Zurna.
“Zari” is a crazy, strange, untraditional, but cool and cleverly subversive song. It’s a unique song supported by a Greek singer with an amazing presence, performance, and voice. The rhythm is unbeatable. The more you listen to it, the more you like it. I love this song. For this Eurovision is by far my favorite song. It should be the number 1 in Eurovision this year!

Interesting to see split opinions on this song. I've been obsessed with it since day one, but I'm also from the Balkans so the particular tonalities of her voice might be more common to hear here. I did get Rosalia vibes on the first listen, too.
This song is so Gen Z coded and stands out for that.

I am so excited about this song and the performance of Marina Satti on the ESC stage. Finally after 18 years I am rooting for an entry from my birth country, Greece, and not again for another country. I find the sound and melody fresh, witty, modern, ethnic and infectious. I believe it was Char who famously said, "Timeō Danaōs et dōna ferentēs - I fear the Greeks when they bear gifts." And by "gifts", I believe she meant the clap.
Satti is a taxi driver and tourist guide, disappointed in love. She guides a German tourist, the one with sandals and white socks 🙂, in Athens. And her mood swings change 6 times as many as the seats of the dice = zari. And in the end, the German tourist changes his mood, does not criticize and becomes cheerful.

Marina Satti is very talented and on stage she will be impressive I think. I saw some of her other songs on stage and she is great! Can she win? I say yes!
It's funny that some greeks are complaining that it doesn't sound greek enough, whereas everyone else in europe is like "YESSS IT'S SO GREEK!"

The instrument you mentioned is called Zournas and is a instrument that is mostly used in folk greek music. The beat/rhythm is called Syrto which is the dance the men are dancing in the video. The vocals in the beginning are influenced from the Moiroloi which is a greek way of singing. :) All in all, Marina wanted to mix ehnik greek with modern urban music and the 6 breaks represent the 6 sides of the dice since you never know which one you gonna get when you roll it. :) Much love to you two lovely guys from Germany! Greece is my = 12 Points this year and I hope it reaches at least the top 5.

The staging is going to be done by Fokas Evangelinos who actually staged many iconic entries. The idea is that is going to be one camera only (like Marina's video of Mantissa)
this year is so stacked, my top 15 keeps moving around like crazy except for my #1 (Norway). as for Zari, this song is so damn fun and it has proven to be an absolute earworm. i really hope Greece gets a good result with this, it's so modern and cool.

My faves are always the ethnic ones. Especially balkan and slavic songs. It's kind of like being in a secret club westerners (like some comentators) have no cultural references or background to get in to. Jokes aside, I think it's really cool to see ethnic songs even if not everyone gets it. For example, I don't necessarily feel the Norwegian song but I appreciate that it shows Norwegian culture and find it so much better than say Malta or Luxembourg that are generic c/p and could be any country's songs.

It amazes me how diverse people's opinions are when it comes to their Eurovision faves. Looking at both your Top 10's so far I think we have 3 songs in common which just shows how the votes could go on the night. I am getting so much flack online about my choices at the moment. I do love the fact that everyone thinks they know who will win for definite and who are cack.

Upon hearing this, I could instantly say that it'll either flop super hard, or end up in the top 10. It's all over the place, but it's not bad??? Essentially, it's a Eurovision entry! And that's why I like it, personally!
We're getting super huge nostalgia from Helena Paparizou's winning almost 20 years ago, and this song is definitely feeding it. No idea what the result will be, but I'm deathly curious to find out!
As for the Rosalia vibes, yes, they're definitely there. Lots of youth here loves Rosalia (she did come perform here last year, after all) so it somehow makes sense, though Marina still is unique in her own way.

I love it, not usually my style but just like several other songs this year it goes in all sorts of directions, it's fun and interesting and I love stuff like that.
You both have really picked up on something that a lot of Greeks themselves haven’t - Marina is absolutely a troll, in the best way. Very aware of the stereotypes and expectations that she poking fun of in the video. Not that she’s taking the piss with the song itself, but with the video she’s basically trolling people’s ideas of what Greece and Greek music are (or can be). She’s an experimental kind of artist, so yeah there will be people who don’t vibe with this song or her music in general, but that’s fine. Those of us who have been fans of hers for years know that this song is 100% Marina, and we love her for it.

so there's a rumour that the live performance is going to be monoplane. we dont know if we are talking about the full perfomance of the song because its not official. u can check "mantissa" by her and the videoclip which is monoplane to take an idea about what is probably going to happen in malmo!!!!
Could you explain what you mean by 'monoplane'? The only English definition I can find for 'monoplane' is, 'an aircraft with a single pair of wings'. So, unless you're saying that her staging is going to include an aeroplane prop, I'm guessing something is getting lost in translation here. I looked at the 'Mantissa' videos and I still can't work out what you mean. Maybe you mean she'll be performing solo?

@@ohlord7043 hahaha it means that like the camera doesn't change any angles and its basically follows marina through stage while dancers come in to the shot and move out just like the video clip !! as u can see is one camera ! this find is talked about in the morning greek shows and the brain behind that is fokas evagelinos. Still we don’t know if the whole performance will be like that but is something that has never happened in the competition before!

Can someone please answer a Eurovision newbie question? Some of my current faves submitted dynamic live performances already. How do they top that for the win? The video entrants seem to have more room to wow, at least if they are good live? (Sorry if this is simplistic to those who've followed Eurovision for a long time.)
The vast majority of viewers will have their first impressions and introductions to these songs at the semi finals or the grand final, giving everyone more of a level playing field. The Eurovision fandom is a relatively small percentage of those tuning in to vote 💕

I watched this premier on UA-cam and I think at the time I didn't really get it? I have a friend in Greece who loves this artist, and the chat went weld for the song, and I didn't understand why at all.
Now I've got it at 6th. I'm about 3 days from posting clips of this as replies to unrelated tweets.
The only thing I still DON'T like about this is the two-different-plaids skirt she wears in the video, but every other outfit she wears is stellar and that makes up for it.
