I'm a fan of Nintendo because they make it hard for me to play games that I owned without paying for them again. I just love how they'll take down an emulator, and then provide no way of playing the games that the emulator emulated. Most of all, I love how they sue their fans into oblivion for creating fan-made projects that never made profit.

@@alecrisser12 as far as I know, the only emulator they took down is Citra, because of a certain thing that happened. And, because of emulators, you can play your old games without paying for them again.
Though I have to agree with your last statement, Sega do better than Nintendon't.
@@firzaprama7 Nintendo also took down Yuzu, and filed a cease and desist when The Dolphin emulator when it was put on Steam. Luckily I installed these emulators before they were taken down. What did Sega do right? Not throwing shade, I just don't play Sega games, so I don't know about their practices.

It's usually the non Zelda fans (who aren't jrpg fans) that call Zelda an "RPG".
Actual Nintendo/Zelda fans always want to spend +10 minutes explaining what Zelda is.

I'm not a nintendo fan, but my favorite console was still a commercial failure, and I also buy all the pokemon games regardless of the fact that the company keeps fucking the fans sideways.
If your favorite console is gamecube you a real one but wii u was awesome too

@@seanstephenson7081 compared to the snes and nes and especially the ps1 it failed miserably as far as meeting expectations. But yeah I wouldn't technically call it a flop either

Last gen graphics are AMAZING! Especially when you've skipped a few gens and are just getting back into gaming.
Shots fired on all but three things LOL I've got 19 Pokemon games but not all of them, my favorite color is blue and I guess I kind of fit the voice chat comment but then again I don't play online much at all so voice chat and lobbies aren't really a thing for me in the first place. Either way holy crap they nailed me

I want to know what people do for a collection like do you invest all of your money into it and but every game you find even without playing it, or you mostly make your life from it by selling and keep the one you don't have ? I got psp, ps3, ps4 collection but that it i'm born in 2000 so it's hard to get the fact that collect digital game was a thing before I was born but know it's not the same and today game will never have values like before in my eyes

@@JRPGLife in botw and totk there’s a hidden xp system where the farther you are in the game and more enemies you kill, you’ll get better weapons and more bonuses

Monster hunter didn't have character level and it's still an RPG

Shining force on the sega is a real RPG for the times and better than Zelda.
Nope to Pokemon, Love the Wii U (was a Wii/DS starter, didn't care for them that much but do these days, I don't care for nostalgia), N64 is good for 3rd parties and thats all I care about not 1st party like GameCube or other systems.
Don't always care for the remakes unless an older niche series,
don't care for graphics, don't care for online.
I care for gameplay so yep.

Zelda is sure but I always get confused HOW? I'll break it down as to me yes it's a term but the term from my own understanding and how others do especially with modern games changes so I get lost on its meaning anymore XD

Not all RPGs are about tons of gear right. Mario Rabbids, Fenix Rising, more dumbed down RPGs right? Or action adventure? Even though tuen based action adventure isn't really a thing right? Or does it extend that way hmm.
FF games are they aren't the same as other RPGs of certain armour/gear or skills like certain other RPG systems but depends what W/JRPGs to compare to.
Not all have romance or bond systems. Or reputation either.
The extent and term meaning grows per games that offer things.
Numbers flying is just a bonus not in all RPGs either and I think was a Diablo thing or some other game or whatever and a additional benefit probably from debug tools originally.
RPGs are what quests, gear, NPCs and worlds to explore, barely much jumping, real, turn, tactics, particular mediaeval like setting or long drawn out history unless a Scifi RPG or modern.
Not all have visual novel cutscene unless for budget reasons in JRPGs, not all are turn based anymore many real time ones exist for audience broadness or preferences.
Not all RPGs have a character creation or a party system. Elders Scrolls or Dark Souls are yet not all a party system there, not all have DnD like dexterity or agility status either yet old school ones do so hmm there of definition loosely.
You don't have that in Final Fantasy or others because different types of skills or abilities or focus.
I mean Fire Emblem and Xenoblade are RPGs, Zelda may not have a skill tree or other aspects but many open world action adventure games are RPG LITE which complicates things too.
Many Sony games (I don't care about them) are RPG LITES do what's the difference.
Deifne an RPG on setting, skill trees/gear, quests or even DnD. I've even heard Baulders Gate 3 isn't and I'm like What its DnD it is because people just define on different things over time a certain way they see it yet it's systems clearly make it an RPG,
Ratchet has weapon and health leveling. It's an action adventure third person shooter with platforming.
Knack isn't a platformer it's kids god of war so character action.
Car RPGs vary in stats, not all have management systems aka PR/Mechanics. Not all have an AI manager mode like Gran Turismo 4 or sports manager games.
Some handling/rewind stats aka Alfa Romeo Racing Italiano. Others parts and events based around those entry restrictions like limited party member quests or weapon only related arena battles or something.
Customisation with part building like Sega GT or Pure for ATV parts building. Aka gear/armour or weapons not a robot or human parts and 1+ intestines or 1+ antenna.
It is a term and it gets expanded over time.
Same as many different far off the spectrum meanings for different words. Dope, cool, race, many others have different meanings for different things then a new word for every new definition or situation a word is repeated with a 2nd or third meaning.

Final Fantasy is but it doesn't have armour/gear sometimes but does other systems of skills, quests and more its no lesser of an RPG and was always an RPG in people's eyes then Zelda usually a action adventure game like a Metroid than a Mario, it has stats and particular settings and dialogue how is Zelda not an RPG but FF is?
Even fhe DS ones as simple as rhey are have quests, they may have 2 weapons besides the tools for puzzles but so does say Mario Rabbids Sapeks of Hope they have the same weapons ghe qhole game yet skins but still level up and damage values change. Yet its a tactics RPG.
Immortals Fenix Rising is also a very dumbed down (not in a bad way) RPG then how Assassin's Creed has gone. Are dumbed down RPGs lesser RPGs? No.
It's a label/genre tag aftwr all and games vary on their game design very simple or very deep depending. I mean labels get complicated and even then Metroidvania is easier to say then Action adventure exploration with interconnected environments with gear collecting games. XD
I hate character action as a term and use hack n slash yet beat em up and hack n slash I get confused by when Dialbo is a hack n slash but is it a dubgeon crawler compared to day the 2D/3D ones of old Shining Force or the other Shining sub series game I forget. Or the one on 3DS I forgdy the name of.
People don't dive deep into why I did to point out aspects I assume make them RPGs so what doesn't class it as one I never understood that) otherwise nope.
One core that is common in ALL RPGs is a character leveling system. Without that, I have a hard time calling something an RPG. 🙂

Serious question from someone who played a zelda game for the first time last year (botw) and from someone who fairly recently got more into rpg's. How or why is zelda not an RPG if it is not? I didn't even realise until fairly recently pokemon is considered an rpg. Why are games like pokemon and witcher rpg's but zelda is not what actually makes an rpg is it the leveling up? I've been wondering this becauss how comes some games that also have action/adventure are rpg's but then others are not.
I was also thinking one time when I was looking into what genres certian games are classified as, how can one really determine the concept (classification) of an rpg because by default wouldn't most to nearly every game technically be an rpg since u are usually playing a role in alot of mordern game. Role playing game's there's so many games you could say you are role playing in because it is not like your reall life. Maybe i'm being over the top but just wondered this
In my opinion, character leveling is a core function of an RPG. Without it, it's just another action or adventure game 🙂
Nintendo made more money off the N64 than Sony did off PlayStation.
N64 was hardly a commercial failure, it didn't do as well as the PlayStation but still did numbers. And was the only true competitor, 3do, Saturn, jag and etc.. not even close

Is it really a commercial failure just because the competition outsold them? The 64 was profitable enough to continue developing games for it after the GameCube came out.
Nintendo considers it a commercial failure and speak of it regularly 🙂
@@JRPGLife This is true. It's still kind of baffling though. Especially considering that the PS1 was sold at a loss, yet the N64 turned a profit. Heck, there was even furniture that had controller ports for the N64 built in. Usually commercial failures aren't so ubiquitous. Btw, it's nice having a discussion about this that doesn't turn into a flame war. Thanks!

How is Zelda not a RPG? You literally play the role of Link in the game.
You also play the roles of fighters in fighting games. Zelda is not an RPG for many reasons, but the main one being no character leveling system.
@@JRPGLife I didn't know role-playing required a leveling system. It certainly helps to make an immersive role-playing game. But nothing about the name implies it. Next time I'm pretending in the bedroom, I'll be sure to say "Level Up!" when I get that Exp bonus.
