@@proudamerican3595 I didn't feel that when I was there. But there is a myth in Russia that it's much cheaper. I believed it. At least in the capital in Minsk where I was prices are quite similar for everything.

@@CrazyRussianSergey Доброе утро Сергей Владимирович 😋 and thank you very much for your very interesting video about "Stolovayas" in Russia. The one you visited on what looks like Nevsky looks really good indeed 😎. Other UA-camrs have also pointed out to visit these canteens when travelling in Russia. The one in your videoand the food looks really good and I would definetly prefer it to American junkfood from McDonalds, Burgerking, KFC and the like. But don't you regrett having missed the opportunity for 'Big Tasties'? Coming back to your question: yes, we do have things like this here as well. But often things are organized in a different way (canteen food) or you go to restaurants providing 'lunch menues' for a cheaper price (obviously not American junk food chains). Very similar to yours. Writing this while having breakfast in my garden 😎.

In America "Cafeterias" very similar to your video were very popular decades ago, but they've fallen out of favor. About the only places you find a Canteen/Cafeteria in the USA these days are in college dormitories and hospitals. All-you-can-eat buffets where the food is just out and you serve yourself are still very popular, though.
Oh yeah. I think I know what is buffet. Is it where you pay for entrance and eat as much as you want like a true capitalist? Russians would eat there until pain in the stomack haha and even would take some food with them!
That’s amazing value for money-so much food! I haven’t seen these canteens before and I’ve watched so many Russian videos- this is fantastic, valuable information!! Well done Sergey !👍
America and Canada use to have these canteens everywhere. but it's gone now. and i actually miss this style of eating and restaurants. Use to be all run by Greeks and Italians and the food was better than most "greasy spoons" (western lower class food restaurant) now.
Something I haven't seen mentioned is in the South in the USA we have "meat-and-threes" which serve a meat dish and three vegetables for a given price. Similar to those cafeterias. Mostly old people eat there I think.
That looks like a good place, with good value food and plenty of space to find somewhere to sit. When I was a kid, we used to have a lot of working class canteens in the UK like that, eg in Woolworths or Littlewoods. But they went out of business. Now everywhere is small, expensive and cramped.
It was moderately popular in the USA at one time, called cafeteria style. There are some similar called buffet, however those are one price and all you can eat. Such a restaurant style requires rotation and if not popular they can waste a lot of food as it dies in trays. So, workers must be very responsible and keep the rotation to maintain quality and most cannot and most of these types of restaurant have long since closed, replaced with burger in a bag or just full service or carry out made to order, there are still some buffets and those do better because all you can eat attracts more traffic, not practical though because it feeds obesity and overeating is not healthy. Buying by the pound or by a serving is called cafeteria style and exist in schools or universities, hospitals too have this type of food service, its institutional.
I worked at a shipyard in the US where they had similar cafeterias all around. The food was like homemade, not fancy, but it was filling and cheap. If you didn't watch out, you could get fat real quick, lol.
Im Iranian and we call it salad oliveah…..we use chicken instead of salami/ham like in Europe. My father remarried to a Lithuanian and we were amazed to find completely different cuisines but had one dish that binded us. Her family preferred chicken (which is not common in Lithuania).
We have places like this in Florida, USA until Covid hit. One served themselves. You paid one price to eat everything, from salad, soups, breads, pizza, vegetables, pasta, meats, desserts,. Drinks costs extra.
Cool half-spy video, comrade Sergey! 👍 I think that soon the Motherland will again send you on a mission to the Western world. The food looks really tasty despite the reasonable prices. But of course in the Soviet canteen it was far from the case (prices and dishes). I still remember the taste of these strange fish cakes.😂

Apparently during the Stalin-era money was different. People were not paid hourly! Rent and food very cheap. Money was not as necessary. ^^ According to Stalin's last book. Economic Problems of Socialism in USSR
