Sure, there's differences - but I never feel like Simon's family is really 'poor' - only compared to the Hillerska students. Simon and Sara have all they need, plus emotional support from their mother. Maybe it's because I read so many news from all around the world. Not having what one needs urgently is poverty. Being homeless. Drifting on an ocean as a refugee with not even a passport of any country.....maybe it's also a bit because I am older - when I was a teen in Germany in the 1970s, most of the people I knew had rooms like Simon or Sara - and having a room of one's own was a luxury as compared to having to share with siblings. And we always heard how good we had it and how bad it was during the war...and how colourful it was compared to East Germay....sure, there is 'progress', but it's never linear or automatic....
On a lighter and fun cultual note, I have just taken screenshots of how Simon eats spaghetti vs the real cultivated Omar in a restaurant in Stockholm. Was so much fun....no idea how Wille or August eat spaghetti....or the queen.....
