  • This is for the eldest son of my friend. My friend is losing his father right now, and his eldest learned to play chess from his father, and they would play together whenever they would visit. So this contribution to the the 2017 Woodworkers Fighting Cancer fundraiser is going to his son, to remember the time spent with his grandfather. Thank you to the Woodwhisperer himself, Mark Spagnuolo for developing this fundraiser and making this possible.
The frame is black cherry, the knights are padauk, and purple heart. The chess board, is maple and walnut. I used Envirotex lite resin from Hobby Lobby for the resin casting.
I followed the advice of the Wood Whisperer and bought the MLCS 9012 Woodworking multi-corner clamps, and they are totally worth it. The metal strap, helps make the set up, so much easier than your standard cloth versions, or simple ratchet straps like I used to use.
