Today is Jan 19, 2024 and this is the ONLY THING THAT HAS WORKED FOR ME! THANK YOU! I have a sony a5100 (released sept 2014) and I have spent too many months trying to figure out how to update the firmware. Now I can finally update the new sigma lens I bought to use it with.
Just did this last night for an A9ii that I picked up on marketplace. The firmware hadn't been updated since V1.0. The latest Parallels download defaults to Windows 11, which didn't cause any problems for the firmware update. Thank you for this. Still infuriated at the nearsightedness of Sony for these old firmware updates.

Great workaround... I'm a SONY FS5 user... I tried every previous steps from you other videos, using Software updater dragged onto DL Driver... and finally Windows 10 with an exe software updater....nothing seems to work. I checked the cables and the computer IS connected. On my MAC the software updater crashes... and using WINDOWS (parallel) the updater won't recognize the FS5 being connected, although windows accepts it! I hope SONY will correct this, for all of us who still love this camera, even though they obviously have dismissed any softwareservice for this, since the FX6 came out... Well, just to say thumbs up for the fantastic workarounds, but unfortunately not working on a FS5... I give up 😞
Ah man, that sucks. It really is obvious that the Sony technicians are PC users ... this is a good reason to make friends with a PC user ... 😆 I'm glad you finally got it working even if it was on a windows machine!! Thanks for watching 😁👍
Thanks very much Jaco... unfortunately the M1 chip isn't brilliant with third party apps like this windows emulator which is really frustrating. Hopefully there will be a solution soon. 👍
After HOURS of trying to download and install drivers, I finally stumbled upon your video, thanks a lot! I'm finally at the final stage of the Firmware update, I really love you right now!
There are very few in this one...I think stability issues, and FTP updates. RAW files can now be transferred to phones and photos can be transferred to FTP sites as you take them. As the A7iv will be out soon, I don't think there will be any more updates after this one. Thanks for watching 😁👍
The app is so bad ... I struggle with it as well. Connection never holds, sometimes doesn't connect, etc etc. I wish they'd build it from scratch with a proper interface that worked.
It worked fine, thanks! If someone is freaking out that after the first reset the camera isn't being recognized by the computer nor turning on (OMG), it happened to me as well. To solve this, just check at the USB icon at the top of the screen if the Sony connection is checked. Then continue with the update and everything will work as a charm. Thanks man!
Hi Daniel, I am having the same issue with the Sony not turning on. What do you mean if it is checked? If it says Sony USB if you click on the USB icon? It was there but when I try to update again when the camera is still red nothing happens and I get the same error eventually.
prevent me from throwing my Mac Pro out the window, almost 4 hours trying to update the SIII, thank you very much for such an excellent tip, it served me perfectly
That's great to hear! My Mac has frequently been close to going out the window...some aspects of this OS are so frustrating!! 🤦🏻♂️ Glad to hear it worked for you. 😁👍
Thanks very much! IT is so annoying isn't it...I remember back in the old days when I used to shoot with canon...all I needed was an internet connection and an SD card...😆🤦🏻♂️
@@mikesphotography indeed instead of simplify the procedure they make it unfortunately too complicated. Also why all those folders in SD card. They should have simplify the folders and keep only the necessary ones. Photos and video...
my goodness you saved me two days of frustration. worked like a charm and I can now return these new usb cords that I bought because its what every one kept telling me is why it didn't work. cheers!
Mike, as I'm typing my A7 III is being updated under Big Sur 11.2 using official Sony updater. No problems so far. And no mention of Big Sur incompatibility in their website. Did they launch another update just after you publish your video?
Haha!...damn it, they probably did...😆🤦🏻♂️ Maybe the intern worked late last week...🤔 Well hopefully this will help the A7siii users with big sur. Thanks for letting me know Martin. 😁👍
Same, I did the update on Sunday and it worked ok (apart from having to keep the camera off until I started the updater, as otherwise it wouldn’t ask for the admin pwd and the update would fail). They must have updated the updater :)
It did, just ran into an issue where parallels wouldn't identify the usb port. In that case just select the "USB port" button on parallels toolbar and manually select your camera. It took me a while to figure this out lol. Thank you Mike for this video!
Like you found out, you can go from any version to the latest one. It is a stand alone upgrade. 👍 ALso thanks for the tip about it not recognising the USB. 😁👍
Many thanks for this fix. I just got the a9ii. I struggled to update the software and didn’t get much assistance from their help line. Your video solved the problem.
HI Mike, I listen to all your directions and couldn't stop thinking that this process is ridiculous. I tried it on my MacPro, iBookAir, and finally, bought a Dell to use windows. I have 4 Sony cameras A1, A7R4 plus. Final result - nothing worked in Windows either!!
I know, it is ridiculous isn't it. I miss my canon for this very reason. Have you tried it with different cables? From the comments I have been getting on here, apart from the randomness of the mac software, the next thing to cause problems is a dodgy cable.
Does anyone know if the firmware updates are cumulative ? I've not applied any firmware updates to my a7iii. I'm hoping that I can just apply the latest firmware and not apply prior updates first .
There must have been a change - I don't see any firmwares available for the A7C (via your link or google search). Any ideas? I know there is a newer version, Im on 1.0
I've done a bit of research and it still looks like they are on firmware version 1.0. It would normally appear on this page: www.sony.com/electronics/support/e-mount-body-ilce-7-series/ilce-7c But there's no firmware updates there at the moment...
Thanks for this tutorial. I'm trying to update the firmware on my RX100V, and I've followed all the steps here. The only hiccup is when the computer tries to connect to the camera: the Sony updater does not seem to recognize the camera. It's a little weird, because my computer does seem to recognize the camera otherwise (camera goes into Mass Storage mode as expected when plugged in). Any thoughts or advice on what might be going on??? Thank you!
That's strange. Maybe try a different cable...I know a lot of people have had issues with certain cables causing the software not to recognise their cameras. Other than that, I'm not sure...you might even have to make friends with a pc user for a short while! 😆 I hope you get it sorted. 👍
@@nialltimony8748 I was having this issue too. I tried taking out the battery, changing cables and restarting my computer. What ended up fixing the issue was changing the USB connection from 'mass storage' to 'MTP' and back to 'mass storage'. I can't remember whether or not the camera was connected to the computer while doing this, because honestly, I did NOT expect this to work. Best of luck!
Hello, I am using a Sony A7R IV and a MacBook Pro M1! Using Parallels 17 on MacOS 12.0.1 and I am not able to detect the camera, everything else works well, but just can't detect the camera in the softare update utility and can't update it! Help please!
I’m having trouble connecting to my Mac Pro 5,1 (Mojave). Even tried connecting it to a laptop with windows 10 and I’m still getting the same message on the camera: ‘check connected device’. Only thing I see is change USB to mass storage or back to auto and I still get the same error. My cam is on ver 1.0 (tried to update firmware but I keep getting this problem) I just wanna have a easy transfer of files from my camera to my Mac. Please note I even tried factory resetting my a6000 with no luck.
Hi Kevin, You've already tried this, but sometimes different cables might work...if that doesn't help, it would be worth emailing sony. They seem to be pretty good at responding to most email enquiries. I hope you get it sorted soon. 👍
@@mikesphotography I ordered a cable on Amazon and found one on my junk cable box lol tried to return said cable to Amazon and they gave me my money back and told me to keep the cable! 😂 #blessed it was the cable
Hi Mike! thank you so much for taking the time to put this together :). I watched the whole video but before I download parallel and do all that. I was wondering if you know if this will work with an older model. More precisely - Sony A5100. This would save me a headache. On the Sony site it said No( of course )not compatible with the Mac OS Big Sur. Thanks in advanced :)
It should work Jo. As parallels emulates windows 10, the firmware updater should just see the windows operating system and not big sur. There's nothing to lose either...the parallels trial is free so you might as well give it a go. I hope it works for you. Thanks for watching 😁👍
I tried this multiple times and it didn't work. It gets to the "automatically reset the camera" the camera powers down and won't come back up. I tried USB-C and a micro USB in every single port. Not sure what to do now.
I've never heard of it doing that before. Not sure what to say about that. It might be worth contacting sony about that. They are pretty good at replying to emails. I hope you get it sorted.
It didn't work for me. I made sure to follow every step, but it's stuck when trying to detect the camera (it did ask me to choose between mac or windows, it just gets stuck after that, I have no idea why! Tried to reinstall it several times, same result.
Unfortunately the Mac OS can be very temperamental with third party software...it looks like you might have to make friends with a Windows user and update your firmware on their computer.
It's so annoying isn't it Will...have you tried different cables? I've seen people with this problem and the one thing that helped the computer to recognise the camera was a different cable...not all the time though...if that doesn't help, it might be worth contacting sony, they're normally good at responding. Thanks for watching 😁👍
I just bought the Sony A6000 it appears up to date thank goodness the only thing is that I cant add any apps to it. Really want the time lapse feature. It keeps saying their server is under maintenance on the camera when i go through that awful long winded hassle to signing in. Then i try to sign in on my Mac and pc. Is anyone else having issues. Ive tried Mac. PC and on the device itself. Every time i just try to sign in it keeps going in a loop to verify if I’m a robot over and over. I cant actually sign in on Mac or PC.
This maybe worked back in 2021... But not today. Just attempted to update an A7Rii on my Mac. Thank god Sony fixed this in newer cameras. The answer though is in the first 15 secs... Make friends with a PC user, install Parallels and windows... Whatever you need to do to get your hands on a Windows based PC. Just use the PC software, it works like a champ. Done. I wish someone had told me this before I spent umpteen hours trying to update via the Mac.
I didn't have a problem with it using wifi through windows parallels emulator ... you might have to activate wifi in the windows program to make it work.
Haha! Excellent! Great to hear you got it updated in the end. I sometimes find using a PC to be much more straightforward ... I just don't tell any of my mac friends!! 😆
Mike I dont know about you but on my mac i just download the updater file for the sony A7III and just run it I dont have to load any other software at all juct connect your camera and it updates the firmware in about 5 mins
Hi Barry, sounds like your OS version is one of the less temperamental ones. There have been so many inconsistencies with this software uploader...it will work fine on one persons machine, but then it won't work at all on another. I think it has to do with the specific versions of the mac OS...i.e. 10.15.2 works fine, 10.15.3 might not work...things like that. But great to hear it worked on your computer just fine. Out of curiosity, what is your OS version? 😁👍
@@cagdasdmr I understand that, that is why in the video I said the A7Siii updater page does say "MacOS Big Sur is not supported" without mentioning the a7iii at that point. My point is that the updater software is very temperamental. It works for some but not for others and if you read through the comments on the firmware update videos I have done and probably a lot of the others out there, there are a lot of people who haven't been able to get it working with big sur as well as some of the other OS versions. Obviously they have finally found a way of getting at least on of the updaters working with big sur. 👍
@@mikesphotography I am waiting for my battery to be charged. I will try in an hour and even my macOS version not supported I will try and write the result here. Hope it will work.
Great idea but i refuse to put windiws on a mac... thats like disobeying the 10 Commandments!! Thankfully i have a cheap piece of crap windows laptop to do my updating!!
Unfortunately now in Sept 2024, with Mac 14.6.1, I just couldn't get it to work. I got as far as the point where "Windows" is supposed to see your camera (A7R ii for me), and no dice. But, I do appreciate this very clear video and I'm glad it helped some people! If anyone has any tips for 2024, let me know.
Update! It's the next day, and I just tried on my Mac Mini 2018 at work, and it worked! Software updated! The only difference is last night it didn't work on my Macbook Pro (2020), and today I'm on the Mac Mini; and the second difference is today I used a USB cable that was Micro USB (into the camera) to USB A -- not USB C like I did last night. If you're still struggling, maybe one of those things will help? Time to bask in the glory of a .01 software update! :)
Damn, got a MI Mac and I don't have the luxury of friends! I'm trying to decide on a Nikon Z7ii or the Sony A7RiV and this is what's making me swing towards Nikon
It's these little differences in how the cameras work that make all the difference! They both take amazing photographs with tonnes of features to help get those images. I hear parallels works on the M1 system now.
It all depends on what you're photographing... If I didn't have any lenses for the sony and I was starting fresh it is so close between these two ... For landscape photography, I'd probably go with the Nikon for the slightly better dynamic range. If I was a portrait shooter or street photographer, I'd probably go with the Sony. If I mostly used the evf, I'd go with Sony, and if I cropped a lot in post, I'd definitely go with the Sony with that 61Mp sensor. The focussing system on the Sony seems to work a lot better so if you do rely on af, that's a big difference. 😁
Thanks for referring me to this video after I commented on your other firmware update video. So I am understanding, from watching this video, that the problem with updating a Sony A7iii to Ver.4.0 is really a MAC issue and not a Sony.... I mean, kind of? If I take my A7iii to our studio and use a PC then it will update much easier? I would rather not want to hassle with a one time used of Parallels installed on my MAC.
It would have been nice to have it...I think this was an essentials fix and that's about it. Seems like they're getting ready for the next model release. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Would love a super A7iii update but suspect it is maxed out! Thanks for all your vids, never a duff one, always entertaining. AWESOME.... Just checked and firmware 4.0 is out in UK .... Hmmmmm wonder what goodies they have for me ;-) Hmmmmm..... Mostly ftp. I was hoping for updated animal and bird af
Haha! Yep, I've read people wanting 10 bit, 4k, 120fps, s-cinetone, etc...like you said, it's probably operating at max capacity before it starts crashing... Maybe it's a subconscious effort to get people thinking about the Mkiv...🤔...firmware version 4...buy the MK4......it may even be playing "buy the Mk4" out of the speaker so whenever we take a photo, the camera whispers that in our ear 😆 Sorry...went out on a tangent there...😆😆😆 Thanks for watching 😁👍
Wow! Thank you. Been sitting on the fence about adding a full-frame Sony to my (current) M43rd kit, which works perfectly, updates seamlessly and operates without a hitch. Amen, Olympus. (Fingers crossed for JIP.) But . . .You just sealed the deal for me NOT to wonder down the Sony road by pointing out how great I have it and how unaware I was of these issues. Thank you, thank you! Seriously, THANK YOU!!!
Haha! It is a treacherous road indeed! Lots of pitfalls and hazards...😆 I'm glad I could help make your mind up when it comes to which route to take. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Thank you MIke; at 24:00 Italian time, I was able to finally update my A7III. With Imac pro it was not possible. With Canon it was very easy. I installed Parallels on an old MacBookPro.
Glad to hear you finally got it done. It is very frustrating isn't it. You're right, the canon system is so much easier than this...I wish sony would just drop this updater and give us an SD firmware updater instead. Thanks for watching 😁👍
painful. tried golden cables etc.. should leave it on desk and plugged now lol. Just can't get over that verify connection. Might leave it on v3.0 then. Good video/guide tho.
Ah man, that's frustrating. It is such a temperamental system. Some people get it working first time without any problems, and others have huge issues ... I wish they'd just have a file you copy to the SD card and then it loads on startup ... Canon have it sorted like this and it is so easy! You might have to make friends with a pc user for a few days...🤔
Thanks for this! Definitely a huge help and Much easier than reading through lots of complicated steps using the Mac option!! And I appreciated you taking it through step by step! Thanks 😊
Thanks Mike, I am Mac guy since 1986 and there is no way I will change to Windows, I am looking to buy Sony A73 or (A7S3 if I win big loto), your video is great.
I upgraded on IMac Big Sur as soon as I saw it with no problems but I have upgraded this way a few times before I used the usb-C cable and put into Mass Storage setting
That's good to hear. They must have finally got it working with Big Sur now. Wonder if they will do the same for the A7siii updater...🤔 Thanks for watching and thanks for letting me know 😁👍
Great to hear I could help Adam...it is a pain to upgrade the firmware and so it is good that this way worked for you and your system! Thanks for watching 😁👍
Hi Beth, Yes, unfortunately Parallels doesn't work with the M1 chipset. You will have to make friends with a windows user if the mac updater program doesn't work with your system. Thanks for watching 👍
Great public service Tut. Love the rant. Pity the intern. PO’d at Sony, although I use a PC, not MAC😁. My guess is that Sony’s firmware routine has to to do with something hardwired in the cams; rather than change electronics and run two different firmware update methods, Sony keeps but one. Still far more complex than it has to be compared w/reading SD card. “MikeyMike”???😁
Haha!! Only my computers call me MikeyMike!! 😆😆😆 You're probably right, and I was thinking last night, because of magic lantern hacking canon cameras, the firmware file on the sd card probably helps them reverse engineer it to make their own firmware versions...so sony probably doesn't want that either. 😁👍
It is so frustrating that we have to do things like this. It only makes sense that we should be able to download a file, on any operating system, and then transfer it to a SD Card. Install the SD Card and and let the camera update. I cant understand why this is not the way it is done. Anyway, I appreciate you presenting what appears to be an easier way to do it then what we have now. I hope all is going well, my friend. Take care.
This was surprisingly easy compared to the patch they had in my previous updater video. Apparently the A7iii firmware updater does now work in Big Sur, but only the latest version...apparently...I'm sure there will be incompatibility issues in the near future though...and hopefully this will help A7siii users as well. Thanks dude, All good here, just getting ready for a few trips down to the islands...hoping for some dark, clear, night skies!! 👌
Hi, thanks and I agree with you. Sony engineers must have a look to Fuji applications, they’re great app and update process. By the way, why Sony take a lot of time to format sd cards and save pictures on it. These operations are like light on my Fuji ! Thanks and✌️
Thanks, Mike. I guess I missed the huge banner, does not work with Big Sur and was farting around trying to get the update to run for two of my cameras without success. I've sent a message to Sony as I have Pro Support and just want to see what they say about Big Sur. I used to run a Virtual Machine and now I have to go back and reinstall. Yeesh! I will if I have to, but this seems dumb that Sony wouldn't update their installers for Big Sur considering how long its been out, how many pro photographers use MacBooks.
Exactly! I am so surprised that they didn't make it to work with big sur from the start. The two companies obviously don't get along at all...soooo annoying.

Haha!! Great to hear I could help!! It is soo frustrating isn't it!!

The only solution it worked for my a7iii. Thank you so much!
Great to hear it has worked!!
Thanks for watching 😁👍
Hi Mike
What about new firmware V4. What is the new features or improvements?
Should we update also? or wait littlie bit more ?
There are very few in this one...I think stability issues, and FTP updates. RAW files can now be transferred to phones and photos can be transferred to FTP sites as you take them.
As the A7iv will be out soon, I don't think there will be any more updates after this one.
Thanks for watching 😁👍
thanks. I didn't expect to have to install parallels to update my camera @sony
It's annoying isn't it...🤦🏻♂️

Now I am struggling to use imaging edge 🥴 My phone succeeded to find the camera wifi but it still wont receewe the pictures
Nvm. I used the «plus» app 🙃
Thanks man!
Great to hear it worked Daniel...and thanks for the tip! 😁👍
Hi Daniel, I am having the same issue with the Sony not turning on. What do you mean if it is checked? If it says Sony USB if you click on the USB icon? It was there but when I try to update again when the camera is still red nothing happens and I get the same error eventually.
Also I am using a M1 chip (Mac), not sure if that makes a difference

Mike, as I'm typing my A7 III is being updated under Big Sur 11.2 using official Sony updater. No problems so far. And no mention of Big Sur incompatibility in their website. Did they launch another update just after you publish your video?
Haha!...damn it, they probably did...😆🤦🏻♂️ Maybe the intern worked late last week...🤔
Well hopefully this will help the A7siii users with big sur.
Thanks for letting me know Martin. 😁👍
@@mikesphotography Sony technicians finally listened to your complaints 😀
Same, I did the update on Sunday and it worked ok (apart from having to keep the camera off until I started the updater, as otherwise it wouldn’t ask for the admin pwd and the update would fail). They must have updated the updater :)
Anyone knows if i can update 3.0 version to 4.0 or do i have to do the previous one first? On an A7iii
ALso thanks for the tip about it not recognising the USB. 😁👍
They must have listened to you, their site has been updated. Did the update today following their steps and my a7iii firmware is now 4.0. Thank you.
Great to hear it's working now. 😁👍
Many thanks for this fix. I just got the a9ii. I struggled to update the software and didn’t get much assistance from their help line. Your video solved the problem.
That's great to hear...I'm glad it helped and you finally got it updated! 😁👍
Thank you, this was really helpful.
Great to hear I could help.
Thanks for watching 😁👍
What are the new features Mike in new update ...
Plz let us know
File Transfer Protocol added. Nothing to celebrate unless FTP is something you use or need.
Like Frank said, minor updates.
It would normally appear on this page: www.sony.com/electronics/support/e-mount-body-ilce-7-series/ilce-7c
But there's no firmware updates there at the moment...
I hope you get it sorted. 👍
did you ever get sorted...im having the same issue and tried numerous cables
@@nialltimony8748 I was having this issue too. I tried taking out the battery, changing cables and restarting my computer. What ended up fixing the issue was changing the USB connection from 'mass storage' to 'MTP' and back to 'mass storage'. I can't remember whether or not the camera was connected to the computer while doing this, because honestly, I did NOT expect this to work. Best of luck!
Quick and easy thanks Mike

Hello, I am using a Sony A7R IV and a MacBook Pro M1! Using Parallels 17 on MacOS 12.0.1 and I am not able to detect the camera, everything else works well, but just can't detect the camera in the softare update utility and can't update it! Help please!
Have you tried using other cables? I've seen from the comments that this is the most common issue with the camera not being detected.
@@mikesphotography i’ve tried the original one from sony, one from my macbook, one from samsung…same issue
This worked great 👍
Great to hear. What operating system are you running at the moment?
Thanks for this video, was able to update my old NEX5N on OS Monterey.
Hi Kevin,
You've already tried this, but sometimes different cables might work...if that doesn't help, it would be worth emailing sony. They seem to be pretty good at responding to most email enquiries.
I hope you get it sorted soon. 👍

Hi Mike! thank you so much for taking the time to put this together :).
HI,Mike
may I know why its say, 4.01 release date 05/16/19
instead of your version 4,0?

I'm not sure what you're referring to...where does it say that?
Didn’t work for me :/ camera isn’t recognised by the software on any computer… haven’t been able to update my A7r3 and it’s still on 1.0! Please help!
It's so annoying isn't it Will...have you tried different cables? I've seen people with this problem and the one thing that helped the computer to recognise the camera was a different cable...not all the time though...if that doesn't help, it might be worth contacting sony, they're normally good at responding.

Is anyone else having issues. Ive tried Mac. PC and on the device itself. Every time i just try to sign in it keeps going in a loop to verify if I’m a robot over and over. I cant actually sign in on Mac or PC.
great video, I was finally able to update my camera. Thank you!!
Great to hear! 😁👍
Wow, after 2 hours you have solved the problem. Unbelievable. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video.
No worries, I'm glad I could help. It is so frustrating isn't it...but glad you've got it sorted now.

I followed every step but I’m getting “The update is not available for your model” message on the system software updater. Any suggestions?
What camera do you have, and which updater were you trying to use?
Seems like this only works on Macs with Intel processors not with M1 chips right?
I've seen on the parallels website that they have updated the software to work with M1 chips now...I don't have one yet to test it on though.
Thank you for this - it was exactly what I needed. Greetings from Prague!

Seems like I can't use internet with a wi-fi connection via Parallels? Do I really need an ethernet cable?
I didn't have a problem with it using wifi through windows parallels emulator ... you might have to activate wifi in the windows program to make it work.
Thanks a lot ! My Sony A6000 camera is updated! Your process seemed like a bit much for me so i just used my wife's pc lol! This was VERY helpful!
Haha!
Probably that's because yours is not a Big Sur.
@@mikesphotography For A7III it does not say Big Sur not supported.

@@mikesphotography if you had a tripod to your head, which would you choose out of the Sony A7RiV or the Z7ii?

I wish this firmware update gave the a7III the updated menu found on the S model. Regardless I’m happy they are still supporting it.
It would have been nice to have it...I think this was an essentials fix and that's about it. Seems like they're getting ready for the next model release.

Hmmmmm..... Mostly ftp. I was hoping for updated animal and bird af
Don't get your hopes up. It's all file transfer stuff.
Haha! Yep, I've read people wanting 10 bit, 4k, 120fps, s-cinetone, etc...like you said, it's probably operating at max capacity before it starts crashing...
Maybe it's a subconscious effort to get people thinking about the Mkiv...🤔...firmware version 4...buy the MK4......it may even be playing "buy the Mk4" out of the speaker so whenever we take a photo, the camera whispers that in our ear 😆
Sorry...went out on a tangent there...😆😆😆

Great public service Tut. Love the rant. Pity the intern. PO’d at Sony, although I use a PC, not MAC😁. My guess is that Sony’s firmware routine has to to do with something hardwired in the cams; rather than change electronics and run two different firmware update methods, Sony keeps but one. Still far more complex than it has to be compared w/reading SD card. “MikeyMike”???😁
Haha!! Only my computers call me MikeyMike!! 😆😆😆
You're probably right, and I was thinking last night, because of magic lantern hacking canon cameras, the firmware file on the sd card probably helps them reverse engineer it to make their own firmware versions...so sony probably doesn't want that either.
That's exactly how Canon firmware updates are done. It never takes more than 5 mins, the whole thing.
