I agree with asmon that pc is better then consoles but he isn’t taking into taking into account a lot of factors. He is viewing it from his point of view of knowing how to use a computer well enough to play games. Most people don’t want to deal with drivers and troubleshooting when it doesn’t work, forget mods. So the simple plug and play is a huge deal, and right now console is a lot cheaper due to gpu prices being WAY WAY to high atm. Another factor is most avg joes have a good tv but either no monitor or trash monitor and don’t want to hook the pc up to the tv. Also non pc gamers likely would rather sit on there nice couch instead of there wal mart computer chair. All in all it’s just not as simple and that’s a big selling point.
ok, but only because people are lazy and dont want to figure out shit doesnt mean the hardware and configurability isnt way superior your personal taste is just that, your personal taste ...
Home Theater PCs exist you know? And there are frontends that make the navigation easier, PC gaming doesn't have to be exclusively on a desktop, that's the point of an open platform that you can play it however you want
I play all of my games on PC from my couch and have an Xbox and PS5 controller just for my PC. My keyboard and Mouse stay on my coffee table in front of me, the whole argument of "I don't wanna play on PC cause I like to relax on my couch to play and not at a desk" is a moot argument cause you can and lots of people already play PC from their couch on a TV and with controllers
@@Orbital_Dew Oh, shut up... Just because you dont fix your car on your own doesnt mean you are lazy. People have different priorities in life, its not being lazy.
I remember I was that person who refused to play with a controller, couldn't understand the point of a console, and used the same PC to the limit of its abilities for years. What changed? I don't know, from lack of space at home, lack of money to buy a very good PC able to run new AAA games, and enjoying playing on consoles. I understand all the arguments on this one. One thing is certain, PC ports should get better.
for a casual gamer like me who basically bought 1 or 2 game a Year, console is way more justifiable than a gaming pc. plus on all the game i play most where exclusive like monster hunter world ( before it came to pc ), gravity rush, dragon's crown, persona ( before the pc port too), horizon zero dawn, wipeout, you got my point. the only reason to get a gaming pc would be to play mmo, rts game and modded game. plus people forget that console can double as media player to read 4k dvd, etc. in my living room i still use my xbox360 as a dvd player. but proprietary console store can be brutal too, especially nintendo that still sell 6 years old game at 60-70 euro.
I'm the opposite, I played consoles(Atari through PS4)for years, and just got annoyed by their build quality, heating issues, among others things. Went back to PCs in 2017 and never looked back. Sucks that some games are getting bad PC ports, but I guess I've been lucky, as I've not played too many of those games with the issues.
I play on PC, but I don't use keyboard and mouse at all times. I use what I feel better with. Sometimes I use K&M others I use controller. For console games, I use the Switch. Better thing ever since sliced bread. The portability makes it so much more valuable than other consoles. Still, I find online play behind a paywall to be complete bullshit. It was the reason why I left Xbox and went PC.
PCs ARE better, but they are SUBSTANTIALLY more expensive. I put together a rig for myself and the wife a few months back and the pair was well over 3.2k (5900x, 64 GB RAM, 4070ti and 5800x, 32GB RAM, 3060ti, both with 2TB M2s) that compares to 1.3k for a pair of PS5s, and even with all the extra horsepower in the gaming PCs for some games the PS5 STILL runs them better. It was worth it for us to have access to more games and better performance on average, but let's not pretend PC gaming is something other than an arena for higher end gaming for weirdos with more income to burn. If you don't want to waste money for potentially little tangible gain, console is still a fine option.
and your PCs can do everything and not just play games- at the same time. You're probably making your dumb comments and watching asmongold from your third monitor right now.
@@scootforlifear Tell me you know nothing about system building without actually telling me you know nothing about system building. Please tell me how AM4-based parts are "bleeding edge" rather than about 18-24 months old at this point, I'll wait. Sure, you don't HAVE to spend that much, but all the parts should be relatively close to each other in performance to avoid bottlenecking. That's what they cost to do so, and that's after significant decreases in recent months. Why would I spend less to get shittier parts that are not a clear advantage over a console in terms of performance in most cases?
My first pc was 1500 bucks(not including moniters). Still have it. That money is like buying 3 ps4 or two ps5 and some games. One graphics card is now about 750(depending on the version) or more. That's basically one ps5 and a few games. So unless the person is going to use the pc for more for then just gaming. Console is pretty much the better choice if you are just strictly gaming.
Well my pc lasted from the 360 era to elden ring when it needed to be updated and it was a $1000 pc back in 2010 which I got for 500 an Xbox 360 was $400 on release and Xbox one on release was $500 so even if I paid full price it would of paid for itself My new pc was $1800 if it last the same amount of time or longer I would be happy as I'm investing in it to be able to run the next 3 generations of games
My pc was about 1200 7 years ago... and it was only that much cause I went 100 percent ssd with 2 tb of sdd space. I still play recent games on high settings. Upgraded graphics card off used market for a fraction of the price 4 years ago to a 1070 ti but sold my old graphics card for the same price.
The difference is console is a toy. An expensive toy. While PC is a tool. You can use PC for work, for studying, for lots of stuff. As a non-first-world person I think consoles are stuff for first world countries. When I was a kid before mobile was a thing, console gaming almost didn't exist here outside of some NES knockoffs, because console is a very expensive toy with very expensive games that are harder to pirate and acquire in general. Meanwhile everyone wants PC just for general stuff. Sure it might not run the latest and greatest AAA titles, but a PC that can run StarCraft or Heroes III or, hell, even Doom2, is already good enough, and I'm pretty sure you can run current "e-sport" stuff on a toaster or an electric kettle. As a person that isn't living in the first world, a console would be my last choice for gaming. Exactly because it is expensive. Because PC or mobile is something you have to have anyway, and console is not.
My last gaming pc cost me a silly amount of money, and needed upgrades just 2 years later. Also, for whatever reason, I couldn't play older games once it was upgraded. So, no backwards compatibility, needed upgrades constantly, and my phone can do it now. Also Ps5 has some amazing stats. I just don't see the need for a pc now. At least for me. If you are streaming professionally I imagine it's more important though
Poor optimisation. It used to happen way more on consoles, but now it seems to be a PC problem. Probably due to a shift in affordability and convenience. I hate it on any platform though. If you are going to release your game across all systems, it should run properly on all of them. If not, it isn't ready. Anyone else remember when games were actually complete on release😂
nah, back then games just were broken forever. They just wasnt this obvious. An example is super mario 64, were if you crouch/ back jump enough in the right spot you can just glicth to the final star and never have to unlock the door. A newer realese but still a great era was the ps2 with DBZ Tenkaichi 3. if you broke someones gaurd in ssj1 or higher and immediatlely went back to base ( on any character) the other player/ cpu is stuck in the heavy breathing animation for the rest of the match.
Yeah, I remember having a couple of games that literally would not work on ps2. Suffering: Ties That Bind and BloodRanye 2 were straight up broken for me. Couple of other games had game ending bugs
Ahhh... I wouldnt go with "when games were actually complete back in the day". Games back in the day were also broken, you just didnt really care about or couldnt find a zillion articles about "How bad is gameX". Also games werent as complex. But yeah, sloppy programming due to management deadlines, profit margins and x-play functionality is shit. Its like moving backwards in game development standards every year.
The internet and gigabit fiber into the basement has ended a world where a 1.0 needs to be perfect. Every developer wants perfect first time, but trust me, we know it’s not possible. v1.07 is my happy place for a reason.
Consoles aren't on life support because of exclusives, they're a strong market because PC requires a certain amount of technical ability, and because consoles have an EXTREMELY good value proposition Edit: To clarify, by technical ability I mean "ability to use a computer." You would be surprised the amount of zoomers that can't work a windows OS because they were raised entirely on mobiles.
Yeah I have to admit I disagree with him on that. Even as a pc gamer I think he is a bit heavily biased in a way that makes him a bit blind to how strong console gaming is. And his complaints about having to buy a new console are fairly weak, as he seems to ignore that with PC gaming you have to buy all the components needed to make a truly competent gaming rig which will always be much more expensive than a gaming console that's all set and ready to go.
100% true. You cant buy a PC worth half a shit for the same price of a console. PCs can be way better, sure, but you're also going to spend way more on one. Its hard for me to justify that when most games are designed around console limitations anyways.
Exclusivity isnt even a valid argument anymore. We have the XBOX App on PC with GamePass, and if rumors are true Sony is working on something similar for PC.
I mean I charge you out the ears. You pay extra for the games on console. You pay to play it online on the console. You pay a monthly subscription to have a select games that they choose for you to have. You don't have an internet browser. You are very limited to what performance you can use the controllers cost a lot even though it's cheaper to begin with as soon adds up
Yeah, and even with inferior specification $500 console can easily outperform 1500$ PC, cause there was never optimization for endless PC configs. Especially when making games got so expensive, even for big companies.
Another point to consoles though (even as a PC gamer) is that it is much more expensive to try to get a gaming rig up to snuff compared to buying an all ready to go console. I'd love for my friends to join me in pc gaming, but trying to convince them to spend a ton of money to get a competent PC gaming rig just isn't gonna happen when a Series S is only 299 bucks. That and certain exclusives.
You can build console level pcs for less money currently. Using used parts of course, but still doable. You can also buy new parts that compete with it for like 700ish.

the crazy thing about the shader issue is that it all could be done on first launch to prevent any shader issues while playing... but for whatever reason everyone has decided that title/load screens are the devil and must be cast out so we're stuck having to try and compile shaders in real time while playing the game which drastically exacerbates the issue. This could easily be solved by giving the player a choice; start compiling the shaders in a load screen, but allow the user to skip if they want to get into the game quicker.
If a game shows an intro movie of the developers, publishers, engine, gpu, cpu, video middleware, physics middleware, gui middleware, other middleware, there's some time to compile shaders, then it loads into the menu, and then while waiting for input, it compiles as much shaders as it can.
yeah alot of issues are solved if you just uninstall your previous drivers and update to the new one that came out SPECIFICALLY FOR THAT GAME because gpu companies pick up the slack for the game devs when it comes to shaders these days. But, some games are just genuinely optimized poorly for pcs like Wild Hearts and Fifa
As someone who's always enjoyed the simplicity of consoles, and has always had to listen to people like asmon slam consoles constantly, it was so nice to watch this video, by the end his argument devolved into just saying he thinks consoles suck and wish they'd die out 😂😂 I don't mind consoles or pcs but I wish people would just enjoy what they enjoy and stay in their lane without having to throw rocks at the other side
@@rsmith8113 It's because the console makers intentionally lose money on console sales. That money is made up in monthly subscriptions for online services and 1st party sales. It really does depend on your own situation and I think looking down on one over the other is stupid but I do think you'll end up paying more money as a console gamer over time than as a PC gamer
It's unrealistic to expect people to pay twice as much as a gaming console for a pc to play games. Even if there are cheaper options for pcs out there, most people know that a console for a fact will be able to play the games they want to play for the next x years whereas a cheap pc might not be able to play some games due to hardware limitations a lot sooner than consoles. Also, most people don't want all the extra stuff that comes from having to use a pc, they want to sit on the couch and click a button to start playing games.
aaaaannnd thats bs again, if your pc has more computing power than your console, it will still have more computing power than that console in X years from now the thing is, pc gamers believe a game running at 20 fps is unplayable and "doesnt run" while a console gamer just doesnt mind
@@Orbital_Dewbruh if my pc gets out spec to the point where it runs games at 20fps, while the new $500 console can run it at 60, would I buy a new $3k pc or the $500 console?
This. I used to play more on PC, bought ps4 for Bloodborne, never looked back (now ps5). I just buy console and donzo, I dont care about new graphic cards etc, it will work.
@@Jonizerr0r because the new 3k$ doesnt give you the 4k60 your 500$ ps gives you. it gives you 4k120 with raytraycing and max settings while you ps5 only reaches 60 in performance mode which lowers your settings to probably mid. And there are countless other features your pc gives you besides gaming, multiple displays for example. I'm using my pc as my entertainmant system daily and i'm not gaming daily.
Bruh baldsmongold how can consoles be on life support if console sales literally dwarf pc sells and it's not even close does he not know it will always be this way because the vast majority of the population can't afford pc nor the upgrades needed for more space or games that are more difficult to run. I think at this point baldsmongold is losing more than just his hair as he's lost his common sense apparently.
pcs in general are way more useful than a console will ever be. consoles are toys for first world people while phones and pcs are tools that everyone needs or uses
Asmon doesn't realize that pc architecture change all the time and when there is a major one that means you have to upgrade just about everything, is not just slap in a new video card.
I wish that the boss or owners of Starforgesystems gift me one of their pc so that I don’t be called “dumb or have a small brain or live in a house made out of rocks like in Flinstones” 0:23
Yeah that was really an L take by asmon. Forget ps5, lots of us are still playing on our ps4's which we got for $300-$400 or even less in some cases. The prices are in different worlds.
I really dont think most people have a computer & monitor, that's pretty much just a twitch gaming space bubble take. The vast majority of the casual players I know play on console or mobile and thats also majority of the market. Those people usual have a shitty laptop or a tablet for other stuff you would do on a PC
We literally had a pandemic that made people buy PC's for work and school. ~80% of people in US have at least one PC, be it a tower or a laptop. It should be higher now, the last time the sources I checked updated was in 2019.
Yeah most people I knew that had a desktop setup back in the day don’t anymore. Either do work on a tablet or a Lenovo laptop/Chromebook/MacBook. I haven’t seen a desktop set up in a home environment(excluding myself) since the early 2010’s.
"You don't have to buy a new one every like 4 or 5 years based of some arbitrary time period that's set by some multibillion dollar company" - This could be describing either consoles or graphics cards, it's so interchangeable that it makes any "Console VS PC, PC VS Console" arguments obsolete. Regardless of what system we use, we're all suckers spending money on new hardware just to be able to play the latest games.
The ps4 and xbox one are both 10 years old and still get games so... Not saying your wrong but like that only applies to PC and Nintendo for now. Seriously how many ds versions did they make? I stopped buying them after my nephew had this one that didn't fold super weird.
Got my PS4 in January 2015, lasted me until March of 2022 when I got PS5. Last time I bought a gaming pc was end of 2016, not planning on seriously upgrading PC for a very long time. I bought my gaming PC for something like 1500, valuation of 2000, which costs MORE than my PS3, PS4 and PS5 combined. I got my money's worth out of both sets, but damn, the value proposition of PC is not high enough.
The argument of the marginal cost between a gaming desktop vs a normal one works if you already are gonna get a normal one, but that just isn't the case. Reality is most people have a laptop if they even have a computer besides just a phone. And maybe you could have gotten a gaming laptop instead but I don't think that's a significant upgrade to a console. And more importantly it makes your everyday laptop way bulkier, require active ventilation, less battery life, etc.
Well, it all depends on what you want. Ultimately if you want access to certain PC games then you need a PC, if you want to run on certain graphics settings then that will determine what specs you might need and will help determine budget, etc. It just depends on what you want, just like anything else in life. If you want to spend $800 on a budget desktop that's a mini build meant for let's say living-room use on a TV then that's up to the individual. The biggest issue is most ppl don't know much about PCs and a lot of people want the most convenient thing and often times for gaming that is a console. Keyboards and such are pretty cheap unless you just want to buy more expensive options. There are so many variables that apply here, I will say this, my advice to anyone would be before buying or building a PC just make sure to do your due diligence so you don't lose money on something you don't need potentially.
this days everyone got a PC but most got an average one or below that the ones liek me who got last gen cards are rare and for the ones who own current gen are 1 in a million
the argument of "you can do a lot more than gaming on PC" is just a hard copium PC gamer tell themselves (including me), I work as a back end developer, my job pays well so I can afford a very nice PC, you know what I use my PC for, other than gaming? stream movies or TV shows/ anime, watch UA-cam, and porn, and maybe a lil bit of coding sometimes. All of which can be done on a $300 Laptop. don't lie to yourself do you really need a $1500 PC for your "productivity"? or you just built an expensive PC just for gaming? unless you are a video editor/3D artist working from home there's no justifiable way you can say that you spend $1500 on a PC for "more than just Gaming". honestly If I don't think mouse and keyboard is the superior way of playing video games 100% I would go for $500 PS5 and $300 laptop set up which cost a lot less than half of what I paid for my PC.
I think the point asmongold is missing with console exclusive games is something dunky made in one of his vids that consoles are made and sold at a loss to sell more games and accessories in competition with each other so no consoles would mean alot of titles made by xbox or Sony themselves, wouldn't exist if it wasn't for that incentive to get people in their gaming market and with the cost of all three consoles being less than a high end gaming pc the only ones suffering from the game exclusivity are the same ones who wouldn't be able to afford a pc able to play ALL games anyway, not to mention people who don't much understand hardware buying an expensive off the shelf pc and finding that their system isn't compatible with the games they want to play
THIS^ I hate it when people compare a $700 console to a $1500 PC. That PC is a 4-8 year investment while the console will need additional expenses over the same period (online access everyone), quite possibly a next gen replacement too.
@@snowwann273 Bro you just compared buying a ps3, ps4, and ps5 (all at full retail price +every accessory you can think of) to buying 1 $1500 PC? What about the Keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers? PC is £1500 guessing that's not including spare wires, a keyboard & mouse, a monitor
@@snowwann273 you have somehow missed the points I was making so let me reiterate for you, my points were that first if consoles didn't exist then many of the games made by the companies to sell consoles and all the extras you mentioned wouldn't exist because they were made to sell the console and get people buying extras so no consoles means some games just wouldn't exist at all, second for the same price as a pc that can play ALL current gen games at exactly the same level of quality you can buy all three consoles so if consoles didn't exist the ones with the money would just buy a pc that can do that which would cost about as much as three consoles so the only ones missing out would be those who don't have that kind of money which is the same group of who get hurt by exclusives now so the removal of consoles wouldn't help with exclusive games it would just bring into focus the underlying issue with money as someone with the aforementioned cash can have all three or indeed four if you count a gaming pc and lastly I pointed out that while anyone no matter how tec savvy can buy a console and know exactly what games it can play the same person could sink a grand into an off the shelf pc only to find it can't play one of the games they want, and final thought you are adding up three generations of consoles to get to that figure but thats over 16 years, a pc you bought for 1.5 k 16 years ago wouldn't even have a solid state drive let alone the new graphics cards and ram to play new games and if your talking upgrades now that's even more spent and now your over 2.1k to be INSANELY generous which as I have said still makes exclusive games exist it just means instead of having to get a ps4 for bloodborne or whatever you have to get new hardware for your pc that will cost the same price and even then many exclusives just won't exist as they were there only to sell the consoles in the first place
@The Rotten💯 I'm surprised you mentioned sitting at a desk as a negative. I would've figured most people didn't care. I actually prefer console because of that reason. I've got a bad back and I can usually only be on my PC for about an hour before I start feeling it, and there's no different chair or anything that will fix that, that's just how it is for me. So yeah, I've got an Xbox one, Ps4, and PC and I'd rather be able to recline and be on console than on PC with a broken back.

@The Rotten💯 my 3080 ti has 5 video outputs, i have hooked up two monitors and my tv at the same time and i can switch between sitting at my desk to sitting on the couch while the game is running. Now try to just use more then one display with your console ...
used to work in a software company, the devs said that they only recommend using integrated graphics, because it eliminates different graphics card. every generation of cpu uses the same Igpu architecture, while in gpu there are about 8-10 variations, like look at Nvidia 1000 series: gtx 1030, 1050, 1050 Ti, 1060 3gb, 1060 6gb, 1070, 1080, 1080 Ti, 1650, 1650 Super, 1660, 1660 SUPER, 1660 Ti. That's 13 times the devs have to create a software variation from scratch (13 times, it's not as simple as just replacing code, you have to start from scratch). And Nvidia releases new graphics card every 18-24 months. but it takes about 3-5 years to complete software. But imagine just integrated graphics. Intel HD 630, this iGPU applies to intel 8th gen, and 9th gen. 1 igpu which most hospitals dont really upgrade unless it's like 3-8 years later. Similar situation as consoles, it's easier to hit deadlines.
"That's 13 times the devs have to create a software variation from scratch" you sure about that ? i thought the gpu drivers are compiling the variations

One annoying thing that's been happening lately is: to counter bad optimization on release (and maybe work on it later), a lot of games are requiring 32 gb of ram. That happened with Hogwarts Legacy and a lot of new games that have memory leak, and then a week later, they somewhat patch it, maybe with even more time they fix it. I wish every port could be as optimized as Death Stranding.

Maybe a few people I know have laptops, but other than that, they mostly do everything on phones, have super minimalistic living spaces and don't really own... things. Having been a gamer for a loong time, PC games always had issues. From driver issues, performance issues, having to tweak settings, crashes, etc. Of course there are exceptions to the rules...
Yeah. You could have top of the line machine but it just isn't working in yours. Spend hours trouble shooting, then it turns how. It's just doesn't like to run on you AMD hardware for whatever reason so you just can't play it. And then because it's on PC, most major game developers will just say to kick rocks.
Dark Souls II worked immediately in my old gaming laptop.. >"It's not corporate greed" > every point comes back to cheapness and time, both of which are money.
There are a lot of variables in this entire situation. I think most people forget that just because you have technology with you at all times (such as a cellphone) that everyone knows anything about technology in general. Many people don't even know as much about PC's. The biggest take in this conversation would be the fact that convenience is still the biggest thing in society. It's overlooked. Why learn when you get something that is complete all the time and does something specific that you need? Doesn't matter who is better. Eventually they'll be the same, however, right now currently all games should be balanced for each piece of hardware equally, and be complete. Especially if most are becoming cross-platform now.
Totally agree. I have a PC and PS4, but 95% of my gaming takes place on my PS4. I've tried to get into PC gaming more, but it turns out the $700 laptop I got wasn't as good as I thought it would be. It still allows me to play some simpler games that will never come to console. For most of my gaming needs, my PS4 works just fine. Most of what I do that can't be done on a console can be done on my smartphone, and for what little I do on PC, Windows has still managed to tick me off from time to time. Some people have compared this to auto enthusiasts, and I think it's a good comparison (speaking as one). Some will want to buy a basic reliable car and modify the heck out of it to get great performance, and some will just go buy a Mustang or Corvette and call it good. Both have their pros and cons. It's up to the individual to decide what they value more. I do wish the gaming community got along better like car people do. I've never had the amount of arrogant and condescending remarks in the car community like I get from PC elitists.

no, probably not, even if you account for the 30-40% price increase of the games on console, but if the console and the pc lasts you 10 years you had 10 years of a great gaming experience on pc while you had 10 years of a mediocre to a bad gaming experience on console but if that is your preference so be it

@@Orbital_Dew Half of your 5 years on PC are spent debugging games that are poorly optimized console ports. Consoles last about 5 years before the next version is released. Many PC gamers upgrade their GPUs or CPUs in 3 years. The only real advantages to PC gaming are pirating games (i.e. stealing) and cheating with hacks.
The reason why we get shitty PC ports is because the port is not always handled by the same development team. Sometimes the port is handed off to a completely different company.
You probably have to do an entire rebuild of a PC every 8 years. Incremental upgrading makes it a lot easier. After 5 years you can buy a new GPU if yours is beginning to lag behind etc. I spent maybe $1000 on my last PC and it lasted 8-9 years. Could run every game I threw at it but had to play modern games on low/medium towards the end.
In the PS3 the Cell CPU was special, but the GPU part was basically just a GeForce 7000 chip, so not that different to PC in many ways. Similar the XBox 360 with the Radeon GPU. The console that was actually the most similar to PCs would still be the original XBox, which was just a Pentium 3 and a GeForce 3 variant put into a box. Also for developers whether something is X86 or MIPS, PowerPC or ARM barely matters at all nowadays. You program them with the same higher languages and assembler is rarely ever used. The most impactful difference right now between PCs and consoles is unified memory vs split memory pools.
i was about to say this the ps3 and 360 were closer to a PC than they say, you could even install Linux on a PS3 before the firmware was patched. The US Air Force in 2010 built a super computer by clustering together 1,760 PS3s with Linux on them and at the time it was the 33rd most powerful computer in the world and was only 1/10 the Cost. They were even using it for Radar Enhancement and Satellite Image Rendering.
Wouldn't it be great if we all had gaming PC's and they were as affordable as consoles with equivalent longevity as consoles with little or no upkeep or knowledge of how to optimize them. I've been wanting to build a gaming PC for years but every time I go to build one I get intimidated that I'll make a bad decision and it will be basically obsolete in a couple years. Also I don't understand how to troubleshoot issues that may arise and I don't have to even think about that on console either the game works or it doesn't. I know this is a personal problem but I'm just not computer literate because I've waited too long to learn how to operate the systems involved. I understand everything I need to know is available to learn online but I still get nervous especially when I could use that $900+ to keep my car running or pay insurance or rent if something comes up and I lose my job. I guess part of my issue is there are too many options when it comes to hardware compatibility and not knowing the key differences between them. I always tell myself "This time when I save up a good cushion of expendable funds I'll build one." but then something comes up that is more important to spend those savings on and requires immediate attention. I'm extremely frugal but minimum wage in California still makes this difficult. I need to improve my work value so I can earn a decent wage and save more. This sucks because I always work really hard and take pride in what I do no matter what it is but I just don't have experience in high paying fields as a primarily physical laborer with no college education.
Let me tell you a little secret about PC gaming in the last 5-ish years. The games we talk about are not the games Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony are talking about. We get these horrible ports, and they make us sad. But you know what? Hades will play on a bargain basement dirt cheap PC, and I love that game. In the last 5 years the games which actually pushed my system that I've honestly loved? Barely any. Indies which I could play on a 200 dollar system I could buy at Walmart that I loved? Lots. It's a completely different ecosystem. You could spend the next 5 years playing all the beloved indies that never came to console over the last 10 years, and I guarantee your actual overall enjoyment of your time spent gaming would go up, not down. And none of those games have a 60-70 dollar box price. They have a 5-20 dollar Steam price. Sometimes 2-3 dollar Steam price during season sales. Go play Hotline Miami, maybe catch a game of TF2 since it's still up and somehow always relevant with thousands of people playing it, CSGO if you wanna be destroyed, chill out with Firewatch, cry at To The Moon, go through the mind bending Stanley Parable, learn all about true bureaucratic depression with Papers Please, go have fun with a classic platformer like Hollow Knight, be brought to rage with Doki Doki Literature Club, or if you truly want to learn how to hate your fellow man and have a masochistic streak... go play League of Legends.... All of those and more can be played on a very cheap PC.
@@halycon404 I've heard about or seen gameplay for most of those games but I'm really into the large AAA games for the most part. Don't get me wrong I love something like Subnautica or Vampire Survivors but I usually play things like Red Dead, the old Assassins Creed, Bioshock and Cyberpunk 2077. I get your point though I can play a ton of things with a cheap pre-built PC instead of a purely dedicated gaming rig. It's more of a nervous feeling about errors and crashes than just the cost. I do want one so I can expand my gaming library.
@@GreatWhiteNinja21 Sounds like you and I are in a similar situation. I'm not really nervous about PC building. I just don't feel like it's worth all the trouble. I have a $700 laptop that I have some games for, but my PS4 is more than enough the vast majority of the time. I was thinking about trying to push more into PC gaming at one point, but I changed my mind when I found out the PS5 is backwards compatible with PS4 games. Best of luck surviving in California.
I feel the same as you, and not everyone has space for a PC. I only have a laptop I use for work and I find it totally unnecessary to get a Gaming PC because 1) Cost, 2) space, 3) I prefer to play on the big TV, 4) dis-associate myself from work. I know that I can hook my laptop to my TV but it's such a hassle to to do that everyday. All these hassles can be solved by simply getting a console, I don't need much computer knowledge to put it together and I know that my PS5 will last me for a long time. My PS3 is still playable despite being 11 years old. It also helps that I am a final fantasy fan so I have to get the PS anyway. XD
You are making it look like building a modern PC requires a degree in engineering or something. You can build Lego, you can build a PC. If you've survived to this day without getting yourself killed in a dumb way then learning the basics of PC building and light troubleshooting shouldn't be far beyond your reach. When a console breaks, you even have less of a chance of fixing it because the companies made them that way.
I will say it multiple times but besides the usual appeals which are enumerated for consoles (cheaper, easier, lasts usually longer - bro I am still playing with my PS2 vanilla and PS3), the biggest and most important appeal for me is the fact that we still can buy most games physically. There are of courses some games which are not running without some updates but this is quite the minority and most day one updates are not necessarily needed to be able to dive into the game. Also, with respect to the physical VS digital debate, gaming on PC means that you depend on the policy of the company or external reasons (your account can be banned / hacked, the platform no longer being supported in the future, basically there is a whole DRM issue which you cannot avoid unless you have games on GOG). I think not many people are discussing the cons with the digital gaming since it’s still quite new to the gaming community (digital is the way to go since around 2010 only ?). As console gamers, we have noticed that the digital copy of the game can be at any moment be erased from your account if the console company wants it and the same can occur on PC (recently and keeping in mind that digital gaming is a regular thing since 2010, we have already noticed over the span of 12 years that Sony wanted to stop the digital store for PS3 and this has already happened for Wii / WiiU and 3DS. Although users can still download the games, I’m afraid this is only the first step towards final measures which will prevent users to have any access to their games. Are we 100% sure that Steam is not gonna do this in the future ? We certainly don’t know but I trust myself more than a gaming company so yeah, consoles allow me to still have the physical copies of most of my games and the only thing I would need in 30 years is the console and the game ‘-‘ )
It's funny because there were times were physical copies on console weren't going to work, like that time Xbox wanted to manage sharing your games, or the PS4 cbomb issue that were not going to let you play your physical discs (ik it was fixed but the fact it's possible matter), there is also discs that are just a key to download the game like Halo Infinite, games with DRM like Gran Turismo 7, indie developers that can't afford to distribute their games physically At least PC has the ability to sail the high seas, even with some Steam games it's easy to bypass the client requirement, screw denuvo tho
any software development project miss deadline 80% of the time. It is probably one of the most difficult things to predict and plan out in terms of when its done. Execs will go to devs and ask them how long, they will try to estimate as best they can and 80% of the time they get it wrong. Then you have marketing and other teams dependent on the progress, budget gets stretched and marketing starts ahead of time etc its really much more than what is said in this video, at the end no one has unlimited funds and developing out of budget is a running expense, think about it, if you build a house and the builders come to you and tell you sorry this will take a month longer to build here is the bill...
best feature of the console is just install the game and it runs. Not having to fuss about with configs just to make sure it runs decently on your hardware.
And refusing to admit he was wrong as he doubles down as he bans people. This coming from someone that's been binge-watching a lot of Asmonds content recently, but a lot of it has been his older clips. I agree with him and disagree with him on things, and at least in the past he seemed to accept subjectivity to some gray area situations, but lately it feels like he's starting to have really black or white perspectives where he's always the one that's right. Someone else in the comments said it well that it seems like he's trying to stir arguments with bad takes, and I can't figure out why the hell he's doing that.
@@Orbital_Dew you misunderstood chase, He is saying that he has to do these things in order for the game to even be playable. On console it will usually work the moment you install it.
I've been a PC master race my whole life and i still am, but i'm gonna use ur own ''way of life'' theory on this one. It's called min-maxing! I tried ps4 last year and I've been so happy about it. It was cheap af, game comes out, i buy it and play it! Mind boggling i know! With PC gaming i have to see if the game will even run, if it runs i have to set settings and waste time optimizing to get the game to run smoothly, i have to fear that every new game that comes out may be too much for my PC. In order to buy a PC that can run all new games I can buy 2 ps5 for the price and even then i wont be 100% sure that PC will last longer than console. Also to buy new PC i need to spend hours of research on wtf kind of build do i even buy? Sure PC is better but console is sure as hell easier and far more simple.. i can even plug in my keyboard and mouse to play some fps games on ps4!
Exactly my point too. It's just a peace of mind I am buying. Already tired from work, I do not want to spend time worrying about if the games will run and learn about PC parts which I am rubbish at. I just want to pop in my game and play. That's all I ask for. I don't need sharp af graphics (tho my PS5 does that now) and I don't need to mod my games.
I think in these recent cases of multi platform rushed releases it is fine to have temporary exclusives for certain platforms, because you can focus on finishing one version of the game and later porting it to other systems. If that can stop rushed ports I'd gladly have that over the current 3 versions of games with issues.
That's what's happening w/ FF16. Sure, SE took the check from Sony (and the development help from them too) but they also said they would need >6 months to port it to PC anyway, likely because of issues described in the video.
@@EdwardPaulet This isn't even true though, FFVII Remake released on PC a year later and then on Steam a year after that and it STILL has terrible performance issues. I'd love if FFXVI is as great as all the hype is leading up to, but I have no faith in Square Enix's ability to port it right. Only hope is that YoshiP steps it up with his experience in other PC games since XIV is fine.
y but no look at TLOU on PC Returnal on PC and y ok TLOU was rushed but Returnal wasn't and still flooped and has some issues loo kat Survivor wasn't rushed but had a ton of issues on PC
Despite what this person is claiming, in my opinion, PC gaming is not a great experience. As someone who plays games on a PC, I can attest that almost every first-person shooter game we have is plagued with cheaters, and we frequently encounter issues with driver updates and more.
A big part of the sales discrepancy between console and PC is that PC, while having a larger install base than consoles, is primarily made up of the gaming upper class and lower class. You get customers that have super crazy rigs that can do amazing shit, and they want to be catered to with extremely high quality games but can't really hold up their market alone, and you also have the kids who play on their moms' work computers or college geeks that won't get jobs who and can only play things like Minecraft, Fortnite, and LoL. Consoles are that middle class market space that can have pretty wide and repeated interaction with box price games
Still gaming on a old PC and no problems with graphics. At least 4 years on the newest parts installed. Around $800 in it through the years, it started as a kit from TigerDirect awhile back.) Only upgrades: Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core 3.60 GHz (this and MSI mother board are the newest upgrade, which was when the 3600 was released) Installed RAM: 16.0 GB Video Card: GTX 1070 (Bought this the year it released, 2016 maybe 2017) SSD: San Disk 500gb No liquid cooling, no after market CPU cooler, all stock parts, rarely shut it down, and still using the original mechanical drive the kit had with it for storage, it and the case are the oldest parts. I did add a SSD with the processor change. I think a PC last a good while, as long as you don't let the advertising hype on upgrades pull you in. Heck I rarely clean it, other then a leaf blower one or two times a month.
Sorry for late reply. Only $800 + original cost? SSD is one of the most important things. But, can it actually run Cyberpunk 2077 on full graphics? Can it run any modern game at 60 or 1444 fps and 1440p or 4k? Can it run Rift Apart and other PS5-like games without issues/bugs? These are the issues for many people. I don't think your PC can do all that for such a low price, with most of the parts being fairly outdated compared with PS5. GTA VI and other new PS5 games by 2025-2026 are going to really break your entire system, is my guess. That's the future of game design. High-end PCs are required and still cost a bit of money. If you get a second-hand PS5 right now, it's only like $300 and instantly plays all these games perfectly (for the most part). Still, a PC over $1,000 that's worse than PS5 is not ideal in this context. I read online that PS5 output requires AMD Ryzen 7 5800X. That's far better than your 3600, right? I think, as of 2024, a PS5-level PC is actually fairly cheap, at about $1,000. It was more money back in 2020 (PS5 was actually more advanced than PC in certain areas for about 2 months, until PC crushed it). Second-hand PS5 is only about $400 in 2024, right? If we get a cheap and even more powerful PS5 Pro soon, then that sets the PC back again, but by then, the prices/tech might have balanced out somewhat. No idea.
@David Kirby Witcher 3 is 2015. I would hope you could run it at $750. How about AAA games from this year? To run them well without issue you'll definitely need to upgrade and I can guarantee it will cost you far more than a console. At least try to make a convincing argument or don't even bother.
Problem is the majority of people settle for less, and game developers see that in revenue. Therefore, PC will always be just something in the back of their minds, not the go-to. If more players invested in quality, rather than "Derrr, new console? Me need to have!" --when no games are actually on it; developers will see console sales and realize that the "market" is much larger. Additionally, on the same note on the consumers' fault, people don't want to upgrade their PCs and invest. As long as they can run the lowest or even mid-tier settings, they're happy. This mentality in practice to hardware recognition by developers indicates that the majority of PC players can't even handle current-gen console graphics and processing power anyway so "why invest" in making a PC port or one that is made with effort anyhow.
I haven't seen anyone else say this but I think it's worth mentioning. Consoles are really easy to trade in for a new console (atleast in Australia). I think the last time I bought a full priced console was when ps4 was released, and with game, console and accessory trade in I was out of pocket $50 for a ps5 🤷🏻♀️
Don't know if it has been mentioned, but consoles are also good for people with accessibility issues. My husband has mobility issues, and don't get me wrong, he loves his PC games but as his issues became worse, keyboard and mouse causes him too much pain and he can't maintain playing for as long as he can with controllers. He prefers PC games that have controller support but without consoles being a thing in the first place he probably wouldn't have that option, and it's not always an option depending on the game.
I'm all for controller support as well, but it's asinine to act like there'd never be controllers without consoles. As if a universe that only had PCs would _only_ be keyboard/mouse and that's it lol. You're right that the option ultimately depends on the game itself. However, *accessibility is better on PC* ! It has options for controller types that aren't even available to console. There are games where rebinding buttons is only possible on PC. Even games that weren't initially developed for controllers can have support added through mods. There's nothing unique consoles bring - other than the _limitations_ they bring.
@@snowwann273 Playing the guilt card because I was trying to present a use case that wasn't brought up in a video? My dude, if you feel guilt for what I said, that's not on me, that's all you. My original comment was to bring up a use case that might not have been considered. Some people like seeing things from other people's point of view and having their horizons expanded, and I guess some people just want to nit pick. I also did mention "He prefers PC games that have controller support". It is ENTIRELY his preferred choice to use his PC when he can with his controller, it's just sometimes not an option. Maybe read the whole comment before you bring up points that I had already covered? He CAN use a PC, just not for everything. Sometimes the PC option with controller support doesn't play as well as the game designed for console does. Sometimes it does and it's AMAZING. It's something we weigh up every time he finds a game he thinks he might like. Demos are really good for this. If he can play for a bit and work out if he's going to be able to play it without pain then we can work out if it's worth spending money on a game or not, sometimes we just have to roll the dice and hope. Don't assume someone hasn't "researched options" or "thought openly" just because that's our working solution for the time being. Don't assume that we don't continue to try and find better solutions to his issues. I think you're the one being close minded and assuming other people don't try and trouble shoot, problem solve and solution find. Like I said, it's a use case that MIGHT not have been thought of.
Hearing him dig a hole like this really shows his bias against consoles its really depressing and funny to watch, also back to his argument of PCs last longer, dude I still play with a Game Boy Advance and occasionally I play on my Old as dirt PS2 I've had those for literally 20 years, whereas my PCs only last 10 years on average.
I think there is space for both PC and consoles to exist. I play a lot of PC games but some games I just want to experience comfortably sitting on a couch with a big screen. I prefer to play most of the games like that unless they are competetive mouse and keyboard games (Dota 2, CSGO, Valorant etc.). Also consoles give the option for couch co-op. Then there is the fact that PCs are expensive. I bought a pre built for 1k euros and I already run into issues with newer games not running smoothly with higher graphics settings. I like both but I don’t think PC is necessarily the superior option always.

@@snowwann273 good points. I have never really thought of using my pc as a console replacement in my living room, but I wouldn’t really bother with that anyway right now just because how expensive a good PC is and I’m not looking to move around my desktop PC either everytime I want to use it in a different room. Also I use playstation to play blu ray/4k blu ray movies so there’s that function too, so a ps5 is good value for money to me. But I see your point and with a right set up PC for couch gaming could work.
I think the main reason for unfinished games at release is pre-release sales. If you’ve sold a promise to millions of people, they have become your investors and expect a finished product on a specific date. So game companies are rushing games in the final stages and not finishing the final tweaks that the games requires. Regular game updates has also changed the way companies are developing games, knowing that the the people who buy the game in the first 3 months are basically running the final beta test for them. Games have also grown a significant amount with the amount of mechanics that the games have. It’s difficult to account for every single minor encounter that each player is going to experience, so some things are missed.
Whenever I pre-purchase a game, I view its release date as the start of its open beta. And that makes me appreciate games that actually go into open betas a lot more, because at least they're a tad more honest.
As someone that custom builds their own pc's and makes them a powerhouse I still prefer gaming on consoles for most games (except ones like Elder Scrolls where modding is the focus). I mostly use my pc for rendering and design stuff while I like the simplicity and ease of use consoles offer for gaming compared to shader caching crap and all sorts of compatibility issues pc games usually have. There are plenty of pc exclusive games that never come to console and still have compatibility issues, getting rid of console won't fix it. Also I like the console ecosystem where I can turn crossplay off and have no cheaters/hacks in my lobbies.
Arguably PC exclusive titles have been the worst lmao. Escape from tarkov? Planetside 2? Valheim? Idk if you would include Ark because it's technically multiplat now but it was exclusive for a year. They all run like garbage. People also just accept that 4x games and strategy games with heavy CPU cycles will run like shit lmao.
@@exmerion Yeah even if we cut out the literal scam grab and run steam early access junk a lot of mainline pc 'exclusive' games can be still a total wreck even with full dev support and zero plans to port to console. Not gonna lie, I have always hated playing games on PC. It's uncomfortable, you have to sit at a PC, it's unnecessarily complicated, it's expensive as fuck to have even half way decent experience. I don't care about graphics. I only care about performance being consistent. If the game runs at 30 fps, but it doesn't ever dip, I'd take that over 120 fps that keeps dipping below 60 fps (not that consoles can always make even that benchmark, and it is a major flaw). I will ALWAYS prefer to play on console.
I gotta tell ya. I don't like having to assemble an expensive 3D puzzle to be able to game. I had to have my friend build my PC because I just cannot be bothered to know how to do that. I literally just want to plug in my Xbox, and boom. It's already good to go. And that's an argument that Asmon uses all the time, so I don't understand why he doesn't get it. I can't stand PC elitism despite owning one myself There are games that are exclusive to PC just as there are games that are exclusive to console. That's how I justify owning both. As a computer engineer, having built my own (albeit simplistic) games, and being a computer programmer I'm pretty sure the original person's video was off the mark on quite a few things about the hardware explanations. Them all sharing the x86 architecture is a big deal. It means that one coding language can be used on all the platforms since they share the same architecture to be compiled into. The biggest deal is likely the fact that game devs don't often optimize the code well to use the GPU vs the CPU well which to be fair they did mention. Could be from time constraints or from the fact they spend most time optimizing for consoles first.
@@droe2570 Well I just meant, most of the other differences don't matter. Only the GPU vs CPU aspect really matters. The "architecture" being different between console and PC doesn't really matter for making games now that everything is x86. That's my only point.
This is the ENTIRE reason I was not willing to spend 70 dollars on Wild Hearts. Loved the game, but when I played the trial it simply did not perform well enough on my PC. With a recent gen processor, and GTX3070, and plenty of RAM. It's pathetic.
13:37 In modern days it's not the way he described at all, the shaders on PC will also be written the same all the time, the developer doesn't have to write extra shaders. Of course there are exceptions to this, like a shader that uses features exclusive to some AMD or Nvidia GPUs for some extra performance or visuals, but this boils down to check if the GPU supports X feature and then compile special shader, otherwise compile the default one. Morever, today there's also gonna be an intermidiate compilation to the SPIR-V/DXIL so the driver compilation is much faster. When the shaders are being compiled, or how they are done are a design decision. You can absolutely compile shaders when either game is loading or when a new level is loading - this doesn't have to happen during gameplay - this has the side effect of longer loading times, but I bet everyone would prefer that over the hiccups during gameplay. If someone expieriences the stutters, it's most likely because of driver-side compilation - modern hardware can recompile the shader again to optimise it after gathering runtime information. It should go away after couple of minutes, and thanks to it the game should work smoother because the compiled shader is cached. Of course if you change the hardware, or update the drivers, then full recompilation has to happen.

Also, games are more expensive on console and online play must be paid so the use itself for buying games and playing online is more expensive over time (hidden costs). You are also limited in what the console can do (I hate controllers for fps). On PC you can just buy an HDMI-cable and game on your TV with XBox or Playstation or Gamecubecontrollers (GC with an Adapter) which all work for almost every PC game (e.g. Eldenring, Dark Souls 3). I also played games on PC couch-Koop which is only limited by exclusives being exclusives.
If a good pc was affordable, I would care about this. Paying 400 bucks five years ago for an xbox that still can run all new games is a no brainer. For pc's it seems like every next game that gets released requires a better pc than the previous to even get the same performance and graphics. Of course this is no issue to big streamers who have multiple massive pc's and anything they want at their fingertips. Not saying they aren't allowed to have those luxuries, but they can't be so completely out of touch trying to act all high and mighty proclaiming only their opinion to be right because that's what they know.
As much as I love and operate PCs myself, one has to factor that the majority of the population just want to play games and _not meddle_ with the hardware and operating system and drivers and mods and endless arcane configuration files. Consoles essentially lets people avoid most of that complexity.
I've played nothing but PC since wow came out but after 2015 the hackers on pvp games in PC are out of control and console gives you that gameplay without hackers you might have exploits but I'll take that over aimbots and just flat out hackers that ruin games, I'll take the shitty graphics over not dealing with hackers... Now if it's a single player that's a whole other story
Currently I’m mainly a Sea of thieves PvP kinda guy. And the hackers are literally destroying the game on pc right now. Xbox servers right now are having a blast without worrying about aimbot or Requiem
People also like playing games on giant 100 inch TV screens and setting up a computer to split screen from monitor to the TV can be a hassle. I do have my computers set up for two monitors and a very large TV on the side in my room but I am betting a lot of people don't want to go through that setup if was something like a family living room.
Plus if you want to play on the living room TV, you need to have your PC set up close by. My computer is at my desk. My living room is somewhere else. And if your apartment/house is small, you may not be able to comfortably fit those two together anyway. Or fit a PC setup at all - you may just have a laptop.

My computer setup dwarfs my 100inch tv You want to use your desktop computer as a desktop computer primarily and not a console substitute for a large TV, unless you are fine having a computer dedicated to the TV. 16:08 the problem is though, game journos and “reviewers” almost never discuss the bad workings of a game (gotta make sure we get free games from the publishers in the future ehh!!). So most people won’t know the game is bad until it is too late. And then they have their initial surge of purchases (heavens forbid, PREorders even) in the bank. And then the publisher discards the game.
PCs being better or more powerful than a console is not a fact. Have you ever seen Steam Hardware research? If you haven't, the most popular PC GPU right now is a GTX 1650. What do you think it's more powerful? A PS5 or a gtx 1650? It doesn't matter what you think, it's the PS5. You need to stop thinking about the PC community as everyone is gaming on an i9 RTX 4090 combo when that's less than 2% of the total. Most people don't have the money to constantly upgrade their PC either. I used a core i3 2nd generation with no video card and 2GB of ram laptop for 5 years before I was able to afford a gaming PC. And after that, I spent almost 8 years with a gtx 1070 until I could afford an upgrade to a 3070ti. The idea that consoles prevent games from evolving is complete bullshit when you realize the average Joe has a PC that's way worse than a current-gen console, not to mention that consoles being a unique integrated closed hardware-software system makes than way more optimized than a PC will ever be. That's why a PS4 can run games like The Last of Us part 2 and The Order 1886 while a gtx 750ti could never, even if it has a superior configuration on paper. And remember, most people nowadays still don't even have an SSD that's big enough to store games, most still use small SSDs to boot and HDDs for games and software.
The problem is PC does not have 3 major companies backing them. Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony. They don't only make consoles, they make games and own game studios. They make TVs, and own electronics companies. Also Marketing, when has a game been marketed for PC over console on TV and more? Consoles are lesser, but more cheaper more accessible for parents, and kidsz also don't take knowledge of something breaks. You turn it on and done. Also, cheaper for studios. You don't have to hire 20 QA devs to test for each GPU.
I bought my series S for $300... i built a PC 5 years ago for $800 and has only negligible better specs; it has NVMe storage, yay. PCs are more expensive but are better; consoles are more accessible. And Microsoft has done well with sharing licenses with console/PC.
So true about the exclusives. I've always wanted to play some splatoon, but I'm not going to buy a separate device for one game to try it out. God forbid, if I don't like it, then I can't even return the console/device! What a waste of money.
Before console exclusives use to = Quality good games which we’re the appeal of them. Now seeing xbox and nintendo half ass them, makes it impossible to defend especially with Pokemon
Problem is the initial investment of a pc. Now it's getting back to like 2024/2015 era. Most games that are fucked on pc are also fucked on the consoles. More often than not as of late, the issue is people on cucked 8GB gpus using ultra settings. Fuckin idiots buying $500 8gb gpus from Nvidia, Lmao. As far as pricing, you can make a pc that's roughly equivalent or better than ps5/xsx for ~$700 at the moment.
In my mind its always like if you get it for pc you’re a nerd, you didn’t have a lot of friends growing up, and you probably could use a few lessons in personal hygiene
Some points are true, some are not. You're not gonna write stuff for every combination of PC hardware, you write stuff for one (1) of the api/libraries/etc. that sit on top of everything, all of the code that deal with the hardware is already done in multiple way by drivers, operating systems, etc.
I think the biggest pro for consoles is that you just buy a console play any new game then just buy the next console when it comes out. It is cheaper to just upgrade parts of a pc but I think a lot of people just don’t have the time to do that.
Dude Goldie you gotta break through that Halo 2 Stan addiction. Game was ultra rushed and the campaign wasn't even half of what it should have been. Fun game still but Halo 2 was a development clusterfuck

I love being able to mod pc games and know the graphics are better that being said I feel the cheater issue is more rampant on pc and sometimes you’ve got to mess with settings and whatnot to get the game working properly. I enjoy console because I know I can just turn it on and load up the game and it pretty much always works.
Gonna have to disagree on the console take - Consoles keep the gaming industry afloat. Consoles are far more accessible, far more stable, and let you play games at excellent graphics and performance (more often than not) in the current gen. Again, yes, a PC has the POTENTIAL to play something at the best graphics, and best performance. But a PS5 now guarantees something at 60fps and it looking amazing.
Whats going on is the games are being made with PC as an after thought because lets be honest most people these days are more likely to have a console than a pc

Ain't that because you can pay to raise your steam level? Like anomaly did a video trading up from a new account doing that. Least xbox gs and PS lvs are earned.
Consoles being on life support is such a dumb take, they are much simpler and cheaper than fancy high end PCs so obviously they are going to be big business and widespread

My elbows and wrists would kill me if I played keyboard and mouse all day, gotta stick to my controller

The portability makes it so much more valuable than other consoles.
Still, I find online play behind a paywall to be complete bullshit.
It was the reason why I left Xbox and went PC.
in my personal experience, i feel more relaxed playing on a couch than in a gaming chair.

Please tell me how AM4-based parts are "bleeding edge" rather than about 18-24 months old at this point, I'll wait.
Well my pc lasted from the 360 era to elden ring when it needed to be updated and it was a $1000 pc back in 2010 which I got for 500 an Xbox 360 was $400 on release and Xbox one on release was $500 so even if I paid full price it would of paid for itself
My new pc was $1800 if it last the same amount of time or longer I would be happy as I'm investing in it to be able to run the next 3 generations of games
@@infine-8222 the thing is a 1k pc can run most games at high settings, while a console can't run at the same graphic settings
I also remember back in the day when you do a specific glitch you might just corrupt your game and lose everything with no fixes lol

Consoles aren't on life support because of exclusives, they're a strong market because PC requires a certain amount of technical ability, and because consoles have an EXTREMELY good value proposition
Edit: To clarify, by technical ability I mean "ability to use a computer." You would be surprised the amount of zoomers that can't work a windows OS because they were raised entirely on mobiles.
I'd love for my friends to join me in pc gaming, but trying to convince them to spend a ton of money to get a competent PC gaming rig just isn't gonna happen when a Series S is only 299 bucks. the crazy thing about the shader issue is that it all could be done on first launch to prevent any shader issues while playing... but for whatever reason everyone has decided that title/load screens are the devil and must be cast out so we're stuck having to try and compile shaders in real time while playing the game which drastically exacerbates the issue. This could easily be solved by giving the player a choice; start compiling the shaders in a load screen, but allow the user to skip if they want to get into the game quicker.
Asynchronous shader compilation is also an useful solution
If a game shows an intro movie of the developers, publishers, engine, gpu, cpu, video middleware, physics middleware, gui middleware, other middleware, there's some time to compile shaders, then it loads into the menu, and then while waiting for input, it compiles as much shaders as it can.
yeah alot of issues are solved if you just uninstall your previous drivers and update to the new one that came out SPECIFICALLY FOR THAT GAME because gpu companies pick up the slack for the game devs when it comes to shaders these days.

@@SycosenMerihem You're comparing apples to oranges. A PC is not a gaming system, it is a PC. Consoles are gaming systems.
Asmon sounds like the Monopoly guy sometimes

@@snowwann273 you have somehow missed the points I was making so let me reiterate for you, my points were that first if consoles didn't exist then many of the games made by the companies to sell consoles and all the extras you mentioned wouldn't exist because they were made to sell the console and get people buying extras so no consoles means some games just wouldn't exist at all, second for the same price as a pc that can play ALL current gen games at exactly the same level of quality you can buy all three consoles so if consoles didn't exist the ones with the money would just buy a pc that can do that which would cost about as much as three consoles so the only ones missing out would be those who don't have that kind of money which is the same group of who get hurt by exclusives now so the removal of consoles wouldn't help with exclusive games it would just bring into focus the underlying issue with money as someone with the aforementioned cash can have all three or indeed four if you count a gaming pc and lastly I pointed out that while anyone no matter how tec savvy can buy a console and know exactly what games it can play the same person could sink a grand into an off the shelf pc only to find it can't play one of the games they want, and final thought you are adding up three generations of consoles to get to that figure but thats over 16 years, a pc you bought for 1.5 k 16 years ago wouldn't even have a solid state drive let alone the new graphics cards and ram to play new games and if your talking upgrades now that's even more spent and now your over 2.1k to be INSANELY generous which as I have said still makes exclusive games exist it just means instead of having to get a ps4 for bloodborne or whatever you have to get new hardware for your pc that will cost the same price and even then many exclusives just won't exist as they were there only to sell the consoles in the first place

used to work in a software company, the devs said that they only recommend using integrated graphics, because it eliminates different graphics card. every generation of cpu uses the same Igpu architecture, while in gpu there are about 8-10 variations, like look at Nvidia 1000 series: gtx 1030, 1050, 1050 Ti, 1060 3gb, 1060 6gb, 1070, 1080, 1080 Ti, 1650, 1650 Super, 1660, 1660 SUPER, 1660 Ti.

I wish every port could be as optimized as Death Stranding.

it seems you are the problem. Since Windows 7 those days of driver issues are long gone. Like 15+ years long gone.
Yeah. You could have top of the line machine but it just isn't working in yours. Spend hours trouble shooting, then it turns how. It's just doesn't like to run on you AMD hardware for whatever reason so you just can't play it. And then because it's on PC, most major game developers will just say to kick rocks.

My first gaming PC was $700. I sold it to my friend, but went over there last month and played Modern Warefare 2 on it. Still ran at 60 FPS.

It's funny because there were times were physical copies on console weren't going to work, like that time Xbox wanted to manage sharing your games, or the PS4 cbomb issue that were not going to let you play your physical discs (ik it was fixed but the fact it's possible matter), there is also discs that are just a key to download the game like Halo Infinite, games with DRM like Gran Turismo 7, indie developers that can't afford to distribute their games physically
At least PC has the ability to sail the high seas, even with some Steam games it's easy to bypass the client requirement, screw denuvo tho
I still have a pc from the 2000 that I sometimes use to play games from that era. So I wouldn't say that consoles last longer
any software development project miss deadline 80% of the time.

No liquid cooling, no after market CPU cooler, all stock parts, rarely shut it down, and still using the original mechanical drive the kit had with it for storage, it and the case are the oldest parts.
No idea.
I love how mad Asmon and all his followers get when they are confronted with evidence that pc is not master race anymore.
And clowns in comments trying to justify the price of their PC because they can't do math.
@David Kirby Witcher 3 is 2015. I would hope you could run it at $750.
How about AAA games from this year? To run them well without issue you'll definitely need to upgrade and I can guarantee it will cost you far more than a console. At least try to make a convincing argument or don't even bother.
PC was never master race.
I remember being given every batman game on steam as an apology for how bad the Arkham Knight port was.

I haven't seen anyone else say this but I think it's worth mentioning. Consoles are really easy to trade in for a new console (atleast in Australia). I think the last time I bought a full priced console was when ps4 was released, and with game, console and accessory trade in I was out of pocket $50 for a ps5 🤷🏻♀️
yeah must be only australia because old consoles only net you like 50-80$ in the states for trade ins cash or instore value
@Brown S oh wow! I don't remember too much of the specifics of the trade in, but it was a pretty big box of stuff I brought to the store
There's a shit ton of reason to prefer consol over Pc, without exclusives
But o know u don't care, so be it
I think there is space for both PC and consoles to exist.

I doubt Asmongold wants to live in a world where the only PC's available soon become prebuilt boxes. Not all of us use a pc just for gaming so per-configured builds by companies would essentially be the consoles he hates so much.

The man literally doesn't put butter on his potatoes because it's too much effort.
Well ok. Building a PC is too much effort and I didn't want to. That should be enough said for him.

@@droe2570 I could buy a decent prebuilt for $1,500, or I could buy a console for less than $500 and it already suits my needs and is prebuilt by the very nature of the product.
The point is moot anyway because like I said, I had my friend pick out parts and build my PC for me.
The other issues I have are:
1.) All my friends are on console anyway
2.) I have a bad back, so sitting at a desk for more than an hour is painful
3.) I can't stand PC elitism despite owning one myself
There are games that are exclusive to PC just as there are games that are exclusive to console. That's how I justify owning both. I'll only buy a game I want on PC if it's the only platform it's available on. Anything that goes to console I'll just buy on Xbox or Playstation. It's just more convenient that way.

That's basically wat he said.....
Do you have a law degree bro?
Let’s talk about how Asmon thinks making 2 million a year is middle class

You are also limited in what the console can do (I hate controllers for fps). On PC you can just buy an HDMI-cable and game on your TV with XBox or Playstation or Gamecubecontrollers (GC with an Adapter) which all work for almost every PC game (e.g. Eldenring, Dark Souls 3). I also played games on PC couch-Koop which is only limited by exclusives being exclusives.
A lot more games on Xbox nowadays have keyboard and mouse support so you are no longer forced to use a controller

You know he is rich when he doesnt know how much a pc setup running 4k 120 hz tripple-a titles cost.
The monitor literary cost more than the console..... x(
Every home has a pc, maybe but not a 1500$ setup running every game as smooth as a console haha...
You have a good gaming pc if youre into pc gaming. Not if you send 2 mails to your boss.
Twice a week ...
Gameranx and Asmongold, hell yeah.
All they want is cash fast and don't care about the performance on the pc just the performance of there banks
Why would they care PC makes them so little money.
@@ZOMBIEo07 can't be very unprofitable if steam is biggest game store front so it can't be to bad
@@jaytee1991 Of course it is profitable, but the market share of PC gaming compared to the market share of gaming overall is laughably small.
Maybe I am smol-brained for having more fun getting a platinum trophy than steam achievements, but this will always make me wanna wait for console releases.
I don’t know a single person who owns a gaming PC. Console gaming is so much bigger than PC gamers realise
