Michael, Michael, Michael .... oh yeah! You did it again! That's one of the coolest and most beautyful CBG ever! Good, that you asked us all, good that you have changed the direction of the box for this build. It's so nice! And - brillant idea regarding the pick up below the top of the box. I will follow your vids to watch what will come ... Do you show the builds of the other boxes too? I guess I'm not the only one who like to follow that! Best regards from good old Germany.

@@TonyBrown-lf5nj it sounds like your frets are not level, or the action might be too low in that area, so when your fretting the note the string is touching both frets at the same time giving you the same pitch on each fret. Hope that helps. M~

Hey Michael. Carl from Canada here again. Just a thought that I’m sure you must have looked at too, but couldn’t you have created an excessive back angle on the neck build? That would have obviously allowed for the taper in the box itself, thereby reducing the string height from the box top. This I think would have allowed you to use your original choice for the pickup. Just a thought from an untrained ignoramus!! Still an awesome build and a great sound. Keep well my friend.

Try wiring the pickup to a jack then plug it in to any amp and hold the pickup in your fingers and move in and away from any guitar as you pluck the strings? Should be able to get a feel for the size of the invisible magnetic field and also hear where the sweet spot is and make note of the distance measurement to the strings. Too close is bad, too far away and your not in the magnetuc field sufficiently to alter it info a signal. Maybe following the box top angle parallel to it would make it the same as a rectangle box build for neck and string position?

Why not trading to recess the bridge so to lower the strings over the box while keeping the neck a bit angled? Do you think the neck’s angle would be too much and affecting the playability? If you are ever going to redo the neck think about a Russian balalaika. Cheers. Paolo

Nice try Michael. Yes the physics of this guitar are wrong. If you were to put a new neck in it or with an appropriate back set the physics will be back it line. Back set would be the height difference when squared across the box plus 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch. Depending upon the height you want the fret board visa vee the box , then the flat pup will work fine. Also the 2k flat pup is more responsive than the 4k one and should work better in it's under the lid role.
