Justin Pacinabao I don’t think so. I haven’t heard anyway. I’m not sure where they would continue the storyline but we’re nearing the 9 year mark pretty soon
Man, Before Sunrise opened my mind up to an entirely new type of film. Like this video said, one where dialogue is the weightiest element. I often find myself wanting more movies like that. They're hard to find.
Daydream delusion Limousine Eyelash Oh, baby with your pretty face Drop a tear in my wineglass Look at those big eyes See what you mean to me Sweet cakes and milkshakes I am a delusion angel I am a fantasy parade I want you to know what I think Don’t want you to guess anymore You have no idea where I came from We have no idea where we’re going Lodged in life Like two branches in a river Flowing downstream Caught in the current I’ll carry you. You’ll carry me That’s how it could be Don’t you know me? Don’t you know me by now?
A difference that can't be dismissed between the before trilogy and la la land (and plenty of other films with similar dialogue) is time and focus. This trilogy is built around dialogue, those scenes are far longer and given most weight, while for example la la land doesn't have time for that, because the character interaction is through colour, music and dance, that is given most importance in that film. Great essay, by the way!
_The Lord of the Rings_ was my favorite film trilogy for over a decade. Then, _The Before Trilogy_ arrived to my eyes and usurped perfection, as if that was even possible. But it did it. Effortlessly.
One of the things that impressed me most about Boyhood was the natural dialogue. Not too surprised then, but still thrilled, to find out that more of Linklater's work has such excellent dialogue.
The before trilogy really hammered the nail in Richard Linklater being my favorite filmmaker. His movies are so brilliantly simple and relatable. Especially Boyhood which made my cry because it made me so nostalgic and hopeful and sad at the same time. It’s almost indescribable the kind of love I have for his films
So, Nerdwriter just did a video about almost the exact same concept, but I will say, I thought your presentation and structure was much better in comparison. PLEASE keep up the great work!
WOW! What a concept...I think I agree, I LOVED Sunrise and thought Sunset was as masterful and perfect as a sequel can be. Midnight was good but it didn't do for me what the first 2 did. A fourth, perhaps 10 years from now, if done well, would be watched for the next 250 years!
I read recently that conversations on a fourth film began recently, specifically Hawke calling up Linklater and asking how he thinks Jesse and Celine are getting through quarantine
wanted to add my astrology geekiness to this but i found it interesting that ethan hawke is a aquarius moon and julie delpy is a gemini moon. both air signs. air signs thrive on stimulating conversations so them playing the actors was sooo perfect. they bounce off one another easily
When I’m making a film I always welcome ideas, collaboration, opinions. They tend to turn out better than otherwise. I like the idea of writing what needs to happen and let the actors and actresses say it the way that feels natural. Great video Andrew.
This may be an unpopular opinion, but I always thought, that it should have been only one movie. Before Sunrise perfectly encapsulated the bittersweetness of human relations in my opinion. The fact that two people can meet, form a bond, and then lose it just as fast as they created it, was always so fascinating to me. The fact that they meet again, kind of spoils the that in my eyes. Life's full of people you bond with but never meet again, and I thought the real-ness of both of them accepting, although being hopeful of course, that they're not going to spend the rest of their life together, and that life moves on, whether they're together or not, strangely beautiful. Accepting the end is after all, one of the hardest parts of being human.
the only one i didn't fully like was midnight. i felt it made it seem like infidelity was just something natural. can it happen and people can survive it? of course. i do think that as humans monogamy is not something everyone or even most people are bound to. but the lost of trust, the bitterness and lack of hearing each other on both sides makes me feel it is not as healthy as a relationship as it once were.
I can understand your perspective but I'd also like to add a different perspective: when we meet a person, there is often a serendipitous meet-again moment that happens; I think the trilogy did an amazing job at expanding on that and how it isn't always laced with only joy in the way fairytales make them out to be.
I know righttt then when I watched the second I wished it was just 2 cause idk its just sooo beautiful goddamn it's like watching a book I swear get it like I said it
Yeah I used to be so interested in the way he talked about art but now he seems like the formula is working against him, although I did enjoy the Noah baumbach video
It’s interesting because I believe Jesse felt offended when Celine said that, Jesse was the one who write the book, the one who lost the flight, he stay in France with her, after all, have an affair to me seems something unlikely. Is possible too imaging Jesse cheating on her, but the way was put on screen leave the interpretation to the viewer, like I said, in my opinion I like to believe he didn’t cheat her
A brilliant trilogy. The question is, will they continue and should they? Where do they go from here? A move to the States seems like a real possibility. Or should we just be free to imagine their future relationship any way we want and leave it at that?
I was working at Blockbuster when Sunset was about to come out on video. One of my coworkers says how much he's looking forward to it. I've never heard of Before Sunrise so he tells me I need to watch it. I take a copy home and twenty years later I still send him a message on Facebook every now and then thanking him for recommending that movie to me. I still don't think there's a movie couple with better chemistry than Hawke and Delpy. I'm legitimately surprised that they never dated.

@@the_creed7969 that's so true.
