Fascinating videos - keep them coming!! I remember having to take a lift near the endeavour replica to access the Dr. Surgery. This was in the 80's. Dr. Surgery later moved to corner of borough rd and longlands road. Does anyone else remember this?
Cheers Mike . This was a lovely part of the centre. Forshaws tobacconist used to just out towards Albert rd and Ward Thompsons was around there somewhere. This part was a little like a mini market a bit like the old indoor market/"in shops" in the Hill Street. Its strange the Hill St is doing ok but the CC and Dundas emptying month by month.
Another awesome upload! mad it's been sat empty that unit so long ,,. Next time you speak with Craig the manager Cleveland centre love to no where all the old Christmas decorations ended up which was under the glass lift hope they wasn't destroyed
Glad you enjoyed it. The Christmas decorations were hired in. They didn't belong to the centre. I've obtained some footage of the old Christmas displays so I'll share that during the lead up to Christmas.
Absolutely fascinating. I’ve watched nearly all your Cleveland Centre videos. Keep them coming. There’s a few things I remember from the 70s. One is Billy Paul’s before it was done out. What a cool place that was! Also I seem to remember another downstairs pub opposite where WH Smith is. Can’t remember the name. There was also an entrance to another pub. Might have been The Erimus behind where WH Smith is. Could have been an outside building before the One NE building was build. Anyway thanks for some great memories!
Thanks Michael. The pub that you refer to opposite WH Smiths was The Lion and Falken. The space is now part of Boots (downstairs) and although I do have some footage of it, information regarding trading dates etc. is difficult to find, as are historical images so there's not really enough content for a video yet. You are correct about the Erimus Pub. The entrance to it was inside of the centre, along one of the exits on to Albert Road.
Cleveland Centre is absolutely awful. When it had the open space with the Endeavour it was much better. They changed and ruined it for the worse and there was no need for it at all.
It was changed by the then, new owners 'The Mall'. I agree that it was much better with 'the square' as it was a focal point of the town and a place where people met and were often entertained. Sadly at the time empty space was a waste of money and creating more retail space was a licence to print it (the exact opposite of course is true now).

The tiles you were on about i rember them being smooth either gold or shiny
@summerxxxx yes, they were a kind of satin finish. Light tan colour. There's still plenty of them around if you know where to look ;)

Maybe that's why the Hill Street is doing well. I suppose the open plan area outside Superdrug is more welcoming and inviting.
The Hillstreet is on its knees now too after Primark opened at Teesside Park
@user-xi8xz5oh2q I don't know what the attraction is to Teesside Park. I hate the place. Its a soulless car park surrounded by shops and traffic jams!
Word is Hillstreet is going to be gone in 5 years
