9/10 for the design and 9/10 for the use of such a cheap material in an awesome way. One thing to make furniture from walnut or oak timber but another to make it from such a cheap material.
Chris, Mike, and Ben have totally turned me around on plywood, a material I always looked down my nose at. It's amazing how much you can do with it when you embrace what it is and its uniqueness.
I think the secret might be to stop burying the layers and embracing the stylistic flourish they bring. Edge banding is appropriate sometimes, but I really have come to love the cool layered look and I see a lot of people are starting to follow that same lead.
Mike's project was really cool I thought. Great idea, and for being a prototype - it came out good looking. I'd say it is like 90% of the way there to what it would be if he made another version. Ben's isn't up yet, but I expect him to kill it. Ben is always full of good ideas.
Ha, dude, I was joking. When I watched the video, it was 2 of your videos in the frames not theirs (the tv stand and something else)! So I thought you were kidding around. Now I see Mike's folding table and blank for Ben. Maybe it was a youtube glitch.
This is my favorite piece thus far. The profile reminds me of retro sci fi ray gun era design. You are the Bob Ross of our day, and this is a happy coffee table.
As long as there is no CNC or excarving or any type of digitalized machines in this build , only typical woodworking tools and good craftsmanship , it'll defently have my thumps up.
Chris, that is a beautifully designed piece of furniture. The video as always, a joy to watch. Amid all the "loud" enthusiastic videos yours is always a sea of tranquility, calm and a joy to watch.
getting close to 200,000 subs. new from the very beginning you wood do fine. Always look to see what you are doing. Always enjoyable. Keep up the great video's, story, and music. Thanks.
Love me some additive joinery. Makes it a breeze to implement strong and attractive building techniques like through tenon joinery for frame and panel construction with limited tools, time or skill required. A viable stopgap between "authentic fine woodworking" and the "slap a bunch of 2x4s together with screws" method.
thanks Benjamin - well said. For me it's a great change of pace. Especially after building a slower project, this way you can really see a lot of progress in a few hours work.
Awesome table man. I am looking at getting into woodworking myself, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet (Wisconsin winter just starting). This idea of a single piece of plywood creating this gives me hope it can be done. You clearly know what you are doing! Wish I had that knowledge bc I know it’s not as easy as you just made it look.
Thanks David...I don't envy you....these California winters are pretty mild. I do occasionally break out a light jacket though...so we aren't totally exempt :P
Great build as usual. I would have loved to have seen more on the process of mapping out the sheet of plywood and how you managed to get all of that out of one sheet.
This table is so sick! Fantastic video too! Not trying to take away anything away from this table cause it is really awesome but it reminds me of a PlayStation lol! Going to go binge the podcast now! Keep it up!
haha...it totally does. I never thought aobut that. I have the PS4 pro which is 3 layers too. Maybe it got into my subconscious. I have been playing my fair share of Gran Turismo Sport.
Dang. I just made a small dining table with 1 sheet of plywood (plus some scrap because I goofed.) My design has a similar vibe to this, probably because I watch all your videos and your style is like an earworm when I'm sketching. Either way, I'll check out the podcast and site to see details of the 1 sheet challenge. Cheers. Keep it up.
This is super cool! Makes me want to make one. I've always been into woodworking and even considered it as a career path at one point. I'd love to make my own furniture. Thing is, I don't own any tools at all (seriously... not even a screwdriver. I've always been able to borrow basic tools from my parents or friends, and since I'm broke, have not yet bought any of my own). I really hope one day I'll be able to have a house with a garage and a little workshop in the garage.
Of the 3 projects of the challenge, yours is my favorite. I hope, one day, to be able to make projects as beautiful as the ones you make. Greetings from Mexico, I'm your fan 😍
This project has me torn. It's one of the first designs I can immediately say I wouldn't want in my house. But the process to build it and the video itself was awesome. The narration was spot on like normal. I can't wait to grad some Radiata pine from the box store and knock out something cool for the challenge.
I'm already thinking about a plywood coffee table, power carve live edge, stacked plywood tapered legs turned on the lathe with either aluminum or walnut bow ties across a hand made check.
It's certainly beyond just woodworking, but I'd really like to see you build a couch. I love mid-century modern style (as do you obviously), but vintage pieces are expensive and newer versions are even worse. They're also not the most practical or comfortable. Any chance you might decide to tackle something like this? I'm not talking about throwing a couple cushions on a wood frame, but incorporating springs or suspension of some kind as well as some fairly detailed upholstery. I feel I'm capable of building something like this, but I need some guidance. No one seems to have a proper build video that I've found, so I'm looking to you since you make amazing things and incredible videos.
Aaaaand now I want a pastrami sandwich. Seriously though this is a lovely table. I'm going to have to spend some time thinking about what to make for this challenge. Great video as always!
What is this? A coffee table for ants?!?!? But for real though, awesome build and I'm thinking about giving this competition a shot! Glad you guys are out there encouraging these kinds of events.
Really neat design, in the middle of a house renovation at the moment and looking for furniture designs for finishing, will be stealing elements from this to add to hidden pc desk

Nice...we all love the stuff obviously :)
I think the secret might be to stop burying the layers and embracing the stylistic flourish they bring. Edge banding is appropriate sometimes, but I really have come to love the cool layered look and I see a lot of people are starting to follow that same lead.
It also depends on the quality. I used to hate plywood, but that was because I was using garbage plywood.
I never thought they were as good as you, but the videos from Mike and Ben up there really give you a run for your money. ;)
Mike's project was really cool I thought. Great idea, and for being a prototype - it came out good looking. I'd say it is like 90% of the way there to what it would be if he made another version. Ben's isn't up yet, but I expect him to kill it. Ben is always full of good ideas.

I'm not even into DIY, but I find these videos so relaxing. Good job!?
This is my favorite piece thus far. The profile reminds me of retro sci fi ray gun era design. You are the Bob Ross of our day, and this is a happy coffee table.
haha...thanks man. Appreciate the kind words. Happy building :)
As long as there is no CNC or excarving or any type of digitalized machines in this build , only typical woodworking tools and good craftsmanship , it'll defently have my thumps up.
Thanks! You will not like my next project. It is heavily CNC'ed
I love how simple this design is but it's also really modern and elegant. Great work!
Chris, that is a beautifully designed piece of furniture. The video as always, a joy to watch. Amid all the "loud" enthusiastic videos yours is always a sea of tranquility, calm and a joy to watch.

thanks man...I passed 200K though
Nice work on this challenge, pastrami layers are my specialty. And again congrats on the new modern baby.
Great job Chris! It's amazing what can be done with a sheet of plywood.
Heck yeah :)
Chris, I absolutely love your design here. You hit it out of the park.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Felix :)
Such a beautiful piece, using such a simple and accessible material! Amazing!
Thansk man :)
It would be great to see something like this or the 2x4 challenge come back for - new round.
And so, another work of art has been made. Amazing content once again. Thanks for all the great stuff Chris! Keep it coming!
You all have come up with an interesting challenge. I like the table design and the sandwich analogy gives the video a neat twist.
I’ve got the same yellow hand sanding block!! That thing is a BOSS!!!
Awesome. Love when ppl do things like this themselves! Keep up bro

The sandwich effect is wonderful. I kinda like yours more than the others.
Sorry I will steal your desing! honestly this is what i was looking for my living room for 2 yrs :) great
This belongs in the coffee table book about coffee tables.
Yummy, Pastrami is delicious and so is this coffee table!
Nice work!
Extremely nice design and execution. Why am I hungry?
I always stare at that Blimp when it’s by the beach 😂😂.
Wow, you set the bar pretty high with that table. Nice job.
Thanks man...I'm sure somebody will out do me though. If last time is any guide.
Great design, nice proportions and explained very well as per your usual standards!
Awesome table man. I am looking at getting into woodworking myself, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet (Wisconsin winter just starting). Wow! I love the design of this table! Nice job!👍👍👍
0:41 that transition was divine!
Thanks Mark...I was really proud of myself with that one. Definitely want to make that "a thing"
What a great build. Makes me wish I had room for a coffee table.
I love this table. And the challenge. And sandwiches. Now I’m hungry and have some projects to sketch.
me too...somebody pastrami me
Great build as usual. I would have loved to have seen more on the process of mapping out the sheet of plywood and how you managed to get all of that out of one sheet.
I was looking at it today...the crazy thing is I only used a little over half of the sheet it turns out.
I just did this build and I used about 3/4 of a sheet
This table is so sick! Fantastic video too! Not trying to take away anything away from this table cause it is really awesome but it reminds me of a PlayStation lol! Going to go binge the podcast now! Keep it up!

Very unique looking table. I like it a lot.
Very nice. Just shows what you can do with plywood. Hope for us all!
Earbuds and table saws go well together
Brilliant design, which has become a hobit on your channel. I love all videos.
So simple, yet elegant! I like the different layers in the top. I’ll be building something for the challenge...hope I don’t let you down. ;)
Then I checked out a blimp for a minute....😂😂😂 sooo good

Nice high fiber sandwich Chris! I was late to the game on the last challenge. I'll certainly have to do it this time!
Woah. I just found you channel, totally binge watching. Your videos are very relaxing , your voice and music and stuff :) Keep it up :) :)

Has a rad deconstructivist vibe! I dig it!!😎
This is the longest Rockler commercial ever,.
Master of Geometrie
love it. you must be pleased with how this one turned out. really makes the most of the challenge
Thanks man...I was very happy with. Can't wait to see what others build
This one is probably my favourite project in a while! love the design dude thanks for the video!!

Of the 3 projects of the challenge, yours is my favorite. I hope, one day, to be able to make projects as beautiful as the ones you make. Greetings from Mexico, I'm your fan 😍

I hear ya...I gave it away to a co-worker for their office, so I guess I didn't want it in my house either :P
I'm already thinking about a plywood coffee table, power carve live edge, stacked plywood tapered legs turned on the lathe with either aluminum or walnut bow ties across a hand made check.
Very cool design. This inspires me to try something similar. Keep up the great work.
If I were to make this I'd totally put some soft white LEDs in that pastrami layer.
That would be cool actually. Good call :)
Fantastic project I love the detailing and can't wait to get stuck into this challenge.
love the design! I know thats not the point, but using proper wood in this build, would have made it even more kickass
Another beautiful project. Great job!
Way to go! Amazing carpentry my friend!
Nice challenge :) Thank you for hosting it. I'm looking forward to all the great builds :) ॐ

Hi there chris, I really enjoy watching your videos and getting Ideas from them thanks
awesome job Chris, incredible piece from a sheet of plywood, very well... keep inspiring ;)... thanks....
Simple but so beautiful... I love it...
Aaaaand now I want a pastrami sandwich. Seriously though this is a lovely table. I'm going to have to spend some time thinking about what to make for this challenge. Great video as always!
I'm so getting pastrami for dinner :)
So beautiful, excellent execution!
Love the look of the legs!
What is this? A coffee table for ants?!?!?
But for real though, awesome build and I'm thinking about giving this competition a shot! Glad you guys are out there encouraging these kinds of events.
Wow I love the design, amazing work! Keep it up.
Go Cubs Go!!!
What a beautiful design. This is one I’ll definitely be making. Subbed.
Really neat design, in the middle of a house renovation at the moment and looking for furniture designs for finishing, will be stealing elements from this to add to hidden pc desk
Gotta love pastrami!
I’d be interested to see an LED strip added along the side of the pastrami layer for some indirect light!
GoSpringboksGo did you try that?
Paint the inside of the bread pieces white where it's proud of the pastrami piece and it will diffuse beautifully.
Great looking table, man! Gotta see if I can make some time for this challenge. Can't wait to see others' entries. :-)
Heck yeah man...give it a go.
Very nice design! I like the taper that gives the legs a very light look.
Go Cubs Go!
👍 Nice work! Love the look of this thing man. Thanks for sharing
Damnit man! I came here to watch a table being made. You mention pastrami and now I’m hungry.
Pastrami does sound pretty good...and I just ate. But I could eat again.
best videos and projects, keep it up man
Awesome design
Great video and love the design.
Cool table, Go Brewers!
You're a great inspiration Chris. Keep up!
me encantó tu diseño! saludos desde una pequeña ciudad llamada Tucumán en Argentina. ahora voy a la suscripción
Floating plywood at 2:18 😲😲😲
eat your head out David Blaine
Nice choice of sandwich meat. :D Cool idea for a coffee table too.
You're slowly becoming the king of plywood stacking haha! really dig the floating top
I like to think of it as a meteoric rise to "king of plywood stacking" status...but ok
:-P
Wow just beautiful!!😳
