This symphony for me is total perfection. It is not very long, but during its timespan it takes you on a remarkable musical, and emotional journey. From the rising C major scale at the beginning to the serene ending with echoes of earlier music the music forms an unbroken arch. The incredible harmonies, marvellous transitions, and the way the musical conversation is passed seamlessly from one “choir” to another is masterful. Rather like a conversation between people in agreement where each person complements, and enhances what the previous person said. Having created this perfect masterpiece it is perhaps small wonder that Sibelius struggled for nearly 30 years to complete his Eighth symphony before finally consigning it to the flames at Ainola. The serene ending of the Seventh, and the serene final harmonies of Tapiola taken together both form a fitting epitaph for the genius that was Jean Sibelius.
This symphony is an exsample of true prefection and i love the harmonies. Sibelius did finnish his 8th symphony a lot of times but he was never satisfied with the result
No dude. He barely got through any of the 8th. You can find it's performance here on UA-cam, though.. And, what he did finish Finnish is spectacular--and I would highly recommend a listen. But the work, unfortunately, is nothing beyond a few sketchy pages of score.

Thanks for the video, the score has been so beneficial to my listening experience. Thanks for the clear recording, as well- so hard to find one of those!
Not sure what you mean re it's length? I was thinking more of people in general not knowing it - for example it's unlikely to be broadcast on popular classical radio (in the day time at least) - I have never heard it on Classic FM (UK) during the day. I find that very sad.
@@redsonnetmusic classic FM is a joke these days and every music fan knows this. It's been overrun by the woke mob and the "let's shove more overplayed Sousa marches down people's throats" crowd.
Error in the score in the timpani part sixth bar after G (page 15 at 8:40): the third note d should be an e instead (in the manner of the similar sequence on page 18). Sibelius had no "on the fly" retunings.
I want to think that Hans Zimmer took a lot of inspiration from this episode of the symphony, in terms of orchestration and melody for his "Interstellar" soundtrack.
Noteworthy is the first ms. The basses are on their lonesome an 8ba from the rest of the strings. Not doubling the basses was Sibelius' way of handling such low and thick textures. If he had doubled that lower line, the result would have made the low bass line more prominent, and the lower textures way too thick. Another way to handle the situation would have been to use a contra bssn. and tuba rather than the basses. This probably would have been a cleaner sound, strings vs. wind instruments, but his orchestration does not include the c. bssn.
One small critique. Having two sets of advertisements interrupting the flow of the music is really insensitive and disrespectful. I will continue to listen to this masterpiece multiple times, but not here. While I appreciate the work of synchronising the music with the score, the jarring impact of the crass adverts is unbearable. Please show the music more respect. Adverts at the beginning, and the end if you must…but NOT mid flow please.
I'm very sorry for the ads, but I can't control them as far as I know. I've UA-cam premium myself and I've always used adblocker so I haven't really even considered my videos having ads. But I do agree. that such beautiful music shouldn't be interrupted by noisy and annoying advertisements.
Among the greatest symphonies ever written.
Try Shostakovich symphony 7, also in C major
@@jackminto7062 He quite possibly already has.
No: LA MEJOR DE TODAS.
Hallelujah
@@jackminto7062 Loud noise, cheap thrills , sorry.,. not remotely on a par with Sibelius 7.
this symphony gives me goosebumps. every freaking time

does anyone know what the new startup theme is?

The British theologian N.T. Wright was spot on about this symphony - it is MASTERFUL!
A favorite of all music lovers. Me included.
Isn't it the case, rather, that most people haven't heard this music?
Red. It is only 23 minutes long and that could be the problem. The vast number of Sibelius lovers know it well.

Yeah, John used that

Honestly, it looks most like a poem than an actual symphony but of course it is still musically marvelous.
what would the clash royale king say about Sibelius 7
Thanks for sharing this.
If this played in your head while assembling IKEA stuff the world would be a better place.

There is some similarity here with Maria from West Side Story by Leanard Bernstein.

Bravo bravo bravo
Knowing all his symphonies and loving his style I must say; So less further development since the 1st and 2nd...(ok and the 5th)
