DIY Idea on How To Make A Backlit Drafting, Sketching and Drawing Table (Cheap or Free)

Video is a quick display of the backlit lcd sketch table that I took from an lcd tv that I received for free. This same idea would work great with a smaller, 22'', tv and a more elegant frame.

Today I've decided to show my take on what to do with a broken flat screen lcd tv. Like quite a few people when I came to posses a tv with a crack in the screen I wanted to know if I could fix it instead of buy a whole new tv. With a little research I discovered that this is impossible, and here's why. The screen in modern TV's is literally where all of the magic happens. The back sheet of glass blocks light in one direction, then there is a liquid sandwiched in between the two pieces of glass, and finally you have the front sheet of glass that blocks light in a perpendicular direction from the first sheet, stopping all light from passing through the panel. If you look around the border on the front sheet of glass you will notice a copper color this is because electrical signals are send along this front sheet and are used to control the liquid that's inside the panel. When properly stimulated this liquid will bend the light allowing it to pass through the second sheet of glass. Essentially taking each pixel individually and making it go from dark to light. The rest of the TV consists of a stand, a chunk of metal that makes up the back of the TV, the back lighting system which is a few light bulbs and some sheets of plastic, and then all of the circuits and things that actually are the brain of the TV. When you look at what is left after you take off the panel it's easy to see why it's not cost effective to replace a cracked screen in the tv. So I decided to remove the back, and the stand permanently, of course the screen because it's destroyed and I was left with this. As long as you hooked everything up correctly after you got finished ripping apart your tv and playing with it then you can be left with something like this. Which I have decided is going to be my new backlit sketch table. Which can see through; 1... 2... 3... 4... 5... 6... 7 pieces of paper with relative ease. Making it perfect for cartoonists or just general sketching. That's what I decided to do with my lcd tv. I left all the wiring intact except for the video output. So, what I am going to do as a future project is hook up a little stand right about here that can hold a laptop or an MP3 player, and have the audio jacks exposed. The speakers are back behind the TV, so I'll be able to play music while I doodle or whatever else. Here's a look at the wiring, all of it still intact except for the video output, and a little frame that I built to keep the backlight portion of the TV supported on the table. A side note, worth mentioning, is that this pulsing that you can see in the video is not visible to the naked eye.
