"She's completely excelled at the physical side of bending, but ignored the spiritual." This is extremely important and largely overlooked when considering her character I think; she's the polar opposite of Aang.
I read that some guidelines set out by the writers was in Avatar The Last Airbender it was Aang a human that had to learn to be the Avatar. In the new series Korra it's the Avatar that learns to be human (due to growing up in a compound). Hope you enjoy the show.
this just changed my whole perspective of the show. I already liked the show, but you really made me want to go back and watch it through this perspective.
Another aspect for Korra that wasn't at first (due to being only a mini series at first) but came in time of the overall series was that each season a new ideology that was a antagonist for Korra. With the exception of one season all of her antagonists have a belief that is part of the foundation for the conflict but taken to the extreme.

Aang was too strict a pacifist, so korra is anyways willing to throw hands. I wonder what her flaw is, and how the next avatar will reflect it.
@@pullimau8555 I think it would have worked better as a standalone tho... Ok so the last airbender IS a masterpiece and legend of korra always had it hard because it came after that 11/10 show. Nonetheless, it still is an amazing show and very enjoyable. Hope you like it don
People need to understand that Korra is NOT A:TLA 2.0 or continuation of the original nor was it trying to be (that's what the comics are for). Sure, it has parallels and easter eggs to the original and it's in the same universe with some returning characters. But at the end of the day, it's its own show with different theses and concepts. I’m real sick and tired of the toxic A:TLA elitists always attacking this show
The only way to know about Zuko's mom is to pick up the Book called "The Search" I think. It shows some adventures of Aang and Zuko and some things about Zuko's mom
Korra is buff as hell. That's why the non-Air elements come so naturally! It was described in the first series that Aang couldn't understand Earth because he was Air, but it's more about personality than it is about birth element.
Yeah. USUALLY, an Avatar has difficulty with the element of the "opposite" Nation because their personality typically associates with their own Nation, but, as we see with Korra, that's not ALWAYS the case.
Don't go in to this show thinking ATLA. It's not, it's an entirely different show, set in the same universe. But you'll enjoy it nonetheless, Season 3 in particular is fantastic.
Don't go in thinking this is a good show. Open you mind to "different" and each time you think that this is not as good as ATLA, let that thought go away and keep opening that mind. Lol
The creators of LOK didn't originally intend to make more then 1 Season, but then they were essentially told by the network to make 3 more Seasons that would air in roughly 2 years because Season 1 was so popular. However, because they were rushed to make them the show wasn't as consistent in quality as TLA was, and by the end of Season 3 the network was tired of the series and didn't even air Season 4 on tv.
A lot of questions in this video about aang's life is answered in the comics. The right order after the end of ATLA is: The Promisse > The Search > The Rift > Smoke and Shadow > North and South > Imbalance
I know Korra isnt everyone's fave series, but I absolutely lovvvvve it. I hope you will too, theres a lot of things in this series that work very well and make me feel great rewatching it or seeing others watch it. Overall, I love it a lot, and try not to compare the two too much and rather appreciate the great things in both shows over trying to find out which one does X or Y better.
You’re in for a ride Don. These villains are crazy. They made the Avatar strong so they made her enemies even stronger than anything we’ve seen in The Last Airbender
Yeah, ain't so cut and dry in Korra, when it comes down to it ATLA was about Aang becoming a fully realized Avatar, with the Fire Nation and the Fire Lord being his motivation, and the end bad guy was very simple, he was indisputably a BAD GUY, the type who would burn his own son's face. In Korra on the other hand as you can see, the bad guy is helping the oppressed in rebellion.
I'm honestly an EXTREMELY emotional person and finding out that Aang and Sokka and etc. are dead I was tearing up the whole time watching this video and I couldn't even enjoy the fact that only Katara is alive. I know this is supposed to be a new generation but bro come on you're gonna spoil our show by making Aang dead!?!? This is the most amazing animated tv show I've watched in a long time, but whoever is in charge of these 2 shows have to continue making these kinds of stuff so I can break down on them. ❤️
If you are wanting to know what happened to Aang and the gang after the war, there are comics out there that you should read. There is a particular answer in the comics that we never got from ATLA
There are a few comics covering some other adventures of the Aang gang, you can see them grow up a bit too and it answers what you need to know about Zuko's mom, among other things
There's comics that explain what the old team avatar did after the war and how they established republic city Also comics explaining what happen to zukos mom
So, it wasn't until my late 20's, after rewatching the entire LoK series, that I got a better understanding of the series and the characters. Defs incorporates more mature elements than a kid show (mental health, etc). Defs different than the original series and should not be compared to it whatsoever.
Legend of Korra is actually amazing, for the people that recently watched the last Airbender and still know the details, all the callbacks to Aang and other things are really fun to see
Avatars aren't necessarily exact opposites (I wouldn't say Aang and Roku were exact opposites). It's more just that an Avatar's personality is there own and not really influenced by the personality of past Avatars despite the fact they are reincarnated.
expanding on the “next avatar are opposites” bit- Kyoshi was decisive she would’ve did anything to protect her people. The Avatar before her was a free spirit waterbender which ended up causing his wife’s face to be taken by the spirit. Roku, the avatar after her was indecisive and that allowed the war to happen. Aang was afraid and ran away from being the avatar, a pacifist, etc. Korra is a hothead. she’s proud to be the avatar.
Finally I can watch this series and somewhat enjoy it, all thanks to you Don Also if you want to know more about Aangs (and the gangs) journey after the war: There are comics Katara just letting Korra leave like her own grandmother did back then :')
There's now a full-fledged Avatar Studios who are making movies and a new series in the future. There's currently a movie about the adult Gaang in development, but we don't know much about it. Just that it's due out in 2024-25
I personally love this show over ATLA. I love that it’s more grown up and sometimes darker than the previous series. Also love the fight choreography in this more. The biggest mistake people make with this show is having the same expectations of ATLA, when this is a completely different show. So they become disappointed and dislike it for no reason.
Legend of Korra is definitively a mixed bag compared to ATLA, but man its still a great show that you will thoroughly enjoy. Don't let the negativity some may have detract your enjoyment, I have my issues with it but its still a worthy successor to the original.
1 thing you need to understand about the Legend of Korra is unlike the Last Air Bender which is a consistent story plot, each season/book of Korra is a individual story line except for the last two and that's because of the of the indecisive producers who thought Korra won't last long but when book 1 did great they approved for a 2nd season and thought again it will end there but it was still popular so they finally decided to give it a proper ending and approved the last two seasons/books which have a connection to each other like how ATLA's seasons/books do.
I really like this series. I know its not as good as ATLA, and even though the first season is "ok" and the second was a mess (but it was nick's management team fault) the 3rd and 4th season are gold. And korra's development is really good

Other than that though, there'll be a some, very brief, flashbacks to relevant detail's in Aang and the gang's life during Legend of Korra. But don't get your hopes up because it's really not that much--mostly just panning over a still image or a few seconds of animation. Nowhere near Naruto-level flashbacks LOL
Aang passing away isn’t crazy in this show.. that’s how a new avatar is born. when the past avatar dies that moment the new one is being born. you can’t have two living avatars.
Legend of Korra is actually a good series. It's just not 98% perfect like the last airbender, but that thing is among the top 3 best shows ever produced in human history, so it's a bad comparison. Most of the problems this series has come from Nickelodeon's bad management and bipolar disorder when it comes to making decisions for the show runners. "Finish this season early pls and don't make another one" ... "no wait please do another one, and could it be ready yesterday please?" ... "Yeah and that's the last season for sure" ... "no wait we want another one"... "Actually this is getting to serious, you'll publish the season finale online, okay?" ... Who can plan ahead a great story that perfectly arcs across 3 seasons like that? But despite that they really added a lot of life to the avatar universe and filled it with great characters and storys. Besides I REALLY digg the 1910s america vibes of the show, they nailed world building once more. Spoiler stuff: !!! !!! !!! If they didn't force in the teen drama love triangle cringe and gave Mako an actual character instead, this show would be way up there. But Bolin makes it up in character and love story.
Welcome to next ride. Korra might be hot headed and the avatar status got in her head here and there...but her journey is worth watching. My favorite season is season 3 but first season is cool af with the plot. You'll see. Enjoy!
Here's why a lot of people don't talk about Korra and why some people talk shit about it. They compare it to ATLA. If you do that you probably won't enjoy it. But if you know it's differently but similar you'll enjoy it.
I really hope with all the attention Avatar has been getting from yourself and other UA-camrs i hope it gets an Earth Avatar ( I know they said that they finished the series but they also said that about Bleach ) Fingers crossed.
It actually will get a new series if i'm not mistaken... it'll take years tho. Can't wait for all the future Avatar stuff the have planned, the new movies comming, Netflix adaptation and ofc the new series.
ik im late to this video tho avatar the last airbender was iconic when it ended it got me tearing i had to cry for more then an hour then i just took a moment to appreciate the dedication that went into it
Can't wait for you to try to guess who Amon is. And I see what you did there 15:41 "A rebellion with the non - benders is kind of Fire" Intentional or not, it was funny.
Some important points from this episode some people miss/misunderstand: 1. Korra discovered she was the Avatar at age 4. Almost immediately, she was put into a training compound for her protection and has not seen much outside of the compound, unlike most previous Avatars who traveled the world to learn the elements. This is incredibly stunting to her social/emotional growth, and this is a massive theme of the show 2. Katara mentions she and Aang had two other kids, Kya (named after Katara’s mom) and Bumi, but Tenzin was the only airbender. 3. Katara only says that Sokka and “many of [her] friends are gone”. Only confirmed death from the old Gaang is Sokka so far.
Has Anyone Else giving him the timeline of this shows development yet? To explain why it gets funky in season 2? They only planned a 1 Season story. But then Nickelodeon wanted 1 more season so they had to Rush to make one. And then they greenlit 2 more seasons. The animation studio they normally used had already been booked. And then they doomed the show to a slow death, it's last episodes exclusively on a streaming service that nobody wanted to use.
crazy no one explained it ina comments or atleast I ain’t see 😂 but since Aang was frozen and didn’t learn Earth, Fire, Water before he became a full fledged avatar it passed onto Korra to where she can used the 3 elements Aang tooo so long to master
Huh? Aang was always the Avatar. He learned all 4 + energy bending in a year. The ice thing causes him to die before hitting old age. Korra's problem with air has little to do with Aang.
People really dislike this cartoon for a reason I’ll never understand. The animation in this is superior to ATLA, the fights are way better due to the fact that korra isn’t passive like aang.
Bro LoK is good in very different ways to ATLA, I want to say more but you'll see. You're going to *love* the jokes and the more serious stuff is dope.

It's still meh overall, even not comparing it to ATLA. Are there good moments? Yeah of course! But OVERALL, nah.
@Nick H well, to be fair everyone has their own tastes, some people loved it, some people hate it, and some are indifferent.
@@SilverFang95 I prefer Korra even when comparing it to ATLA. Different tastes.
What happen to zuko's mom, how a fisherman's village became republic city, why there's another sky bison, Everything is in the comic series
I really hope with all the attention Avatar has been getting from yourself and other UA-camrs i hope it gets an Earth Avatar ( I know they said that they finished the series but they also said that about Bleach ) Fingers crossed.
Oh you haven't heard? There's a part 3 in the works now with an Earth Avatar
It actually will get a new series if i'm not mistaken... it'll take years tho. Can't wait for all the future Avatar stuff the have planned, the new movies comming, Netflix adaptation and ofc the new series.
ik im late to this video tho avatar the last airbender was iconic when it ended it got me tearing i had to cry for more then an hour then i just took a moment to appreciate the dedication that went into it
I love both shows way too much but honestly find TLOK amazeballlllls.
Don't worry we're getting Hella avatar content in the coming years.👌🏿
Can't wait for you to try to guess who Amon is. And I see what you did there 15:41 "A rebellion with the non - benders is kind of Fire" Intentional or not, it was funny.
Personally my favorite of the two series can’t wait for you to watch!
Some important points from this episode some people miss/misunderstand:
1. Korra discovered she was the Avatar at age 4. Almost immediately, she was put into a training compound for her protection and has not seen much outside of the compound, unlike most previous Avatars who traveled the world to learn the elements. This is incredibly stunting to her social/emotional growth, and this is a massive theme of the show
2. Katara mentions she and Aang had two other kids, Kya (named after Katara’s mom) and Bumi, but Tenzin was the only airbender.
3. Katara only says that Sokka and “many of [her] friends are gone”. Only confirmed death from the old Gaang is Sokka so far.
There are comics after the end of the animated series if you're curious
LOK rankings
1. S3
2A. S1
2B. S4
3. The Great Divide (yes ik it’s not a season or in LOK)
4. S2
Excited to watch you go on this journey
Has Anyone Else giving him the timeline of this shows development yet? To explain why it gets funky in season 2?
They only planned a 1 Season story. But then Nickelodeon wanted 1 more season so they had to Rush to make one. And then they greenlit 2 more seasons. The animation studio they normally used had already been booked. And then they doomed the show to a slow death, it's last episodes exclusively on a streaming service that nobody wanted to use.
Yo just thought of this remember book 3 episode 7 in avatar they said a friendship can live a life time it did.
LEGEND OF KORRA LETS GOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the comics you see the last airbender after the show
crazy no one explained it ina comments or atleast I ain’t see 😂 but since Aang was frozen and didn’t learn Earth, Fire, Water before he became a full fledged avatar it passed onto Korra to where she can used the 3 elements Aang tooo so long to master
Huh?
Aang was always the Avatar. He learned all 4 + energy bending in a year.
The ice thing causes him to die before hitting old age. Korra's problem with air has little to do with Aang.
I absolutely loved this series, watched it as it Aired on tv. Idk what all the hate is about in the comments.
Read the comics If you want to see them build the city and find out about zukos mom too there pretty good
People really dislike this cartoon for a reason I’ll never understand. The animation in this is superior to ATLA, the fights are way better due to the fact that korra isn’t passive like aang.
i miss my girl korra
yess my favorite avatar
For info on Zukos mom you’ll need to read The Search.
Bro LoK is good in very different ways to ATLA, I want to say more but you'll see. You're going to *love* the jokes and the more serious stuff is dope.
Im surprised Don didn’t reconsider Omni-man’s VA
Legend of Korra was lit
good choice bro it is a awsome series.Avatar the last airbender is still my favourite and HUGE fan of Uncle Iro😢🥰
Korra = girl boss slay queen... i rest my case
Just wait a couple years and we’re getting a series where they are all adults
So ima Hardcore Avatar Aang fan. And till this day i doubt to watch Legend of Korra because there is less Aang crew. But i will watch it now cuz of Don lets see how the first Ep is.
