Hi Andrew. I have two copies of this lens, one black and one Titanium. Neither has the rattle you have experienced and both work really nicely.
I have to say I agree with your comments on quality control, my version doesn’t rattle and it’s pretty tack sharp most of the time. I use it for street photography on my XT3 and it’s small size is a real benefit. For me it’s a great little lens that adds a bit of character to my street shots. Great review and thanks for sharing 👍📷👍
Andrew, I had been offline for some years. Great to see your kids growing up. Fabulous.
I have the lens and I don’t have any issues with the rattling. I also have been able to get some sharp images out of it. I picked it up when fujis version was no where to be found. I use it to document my life and some street photography
I have the 27mm f2.8 original from fuji, love it on my xe3. I got a 35mm xc when it came out, kind of wishing i would have just learned to love the 27mm like i do now.
I might get this one as a body cap, it protects the sensor while being useful for capturing images.
Mine doesn’t rattle.
I shoot JPEG. At f2.8 I get very noticeable vignetting, and…I like the look! Now I mostly use this lens wide open, with an ND filter handy for bright days.
I have the “Titanium” version, and the “2.8” on the aperture ring is almost invisible - very hard to read. Easy to locate or verify by feel, however, by turning the ring till it stops.
As a hobbyist, I love this lens on my X-E2. I bring it everywhere with me to shoot everyday life. When I travel I bring along my kit lens XF 18-55mm, but for everyday situation, this is just perfect.
Hey , I'm considering the XE2 as my first camera. I'm an absolute beginner. How does it hold up in 2023? Some say it makes humans look like wax figures and others say the dynamic range isn't great indoors. What has your experience been?
I have X-E2s and for me, they're perfect for the price range (in my case, I looked for a camera that can replace analog film). X-Trans 2 just warm and analog-like + b&w photos are very much enjoyable because the sensor only has 16mp and if you shoot at 6400, the noise came out as good as Ilford Delta 3200 grain. Human skin become waxy only happened if you shoot above ISO3200
I've been waiting for a lens like this on the X mount for a while. I like the old-SLR style optical flaws, but most of the Fuji X lenses like that are manual focus. As long as the lens can handle regular use this seems like exactly what I've been looking for.
I bought one of these to pair with my Fuji X-M1 as a street kit. I like it. BTW, mine doesn't rattle at all (no noise when I shack it). Unfortunately, I lost the lens hood. And have been told I can't buy a replacement. I get great images from mine, even when mounted on the X-M1 or my X-Pro1. The biggest thing I dislike about the lens is the two knurled projections on the aperture ring. They are in bad locations, Nice video. Thanks.
When compared by list prices, this is awesome. I tried it on my trusty X-T1, just out of curiosity and was really impressed. When you're also fine with buying used however, I'd lean towards a second hand Fujinon 27 2.8 - both versions are just a tiny bit better optically than the TTartisan - AF is not that quick on the X-T1 anyways.
That said, and I will post this everywhere where Fuji might see it: Make an updated version of the 18mm 2.0! :)
Great review and I trusted are your comments.
I'm more than happy with my copy. Only problem is with flare but you can see that in the viewfinder and recompose before you shoot. The vignette is noticeable particularly wide open but suits some shots and can be corrected easily in post. Quite frankly the Fujifilm 27mm is overpriced for a walk around lens aimed at the amateur photographer.
I have strange warm feelings for this lens. It's definitely not the best lens, but I constantly find myself wanting to shoot with it. I have different zooms and primes and I even take them with me on trips and walks, but in the end I shoot with this lens. And I like this imperfection - vignetting, flare...
Best first *Fujinon* prime lens is the 30mm f2.8 macro. Not cheap but, if one is considering a first Fuji prime lens, I think this is the best choice these days. With a focusing distance from 1 cm to infinity, it's the most versatile Fuji lens I've used.
The little TTArtisans 27mm lives on my X-E1, even when using the X-T3 and/or my Canon for events I will bring the ‘Sexy-1’ with the 27mm.
No rattling here and very sharp from F4 until F8. I love the character of the lens. Update is grrrrrrr.... is only for Windows!
that ring in front of the front element can be screwed off or on.. seams like it needs I some tighten. That can be done by yourself without tools.
makes me wounder if it would be possible to flip the front element as you can on the hellios-44
used mine 27mm alot for street photography, I enjoy it much more then the fuji version, it simply adds a look to the ikages that are nice!
For nature stuffs a tiny pancake is probably not the best option.
but yhea put your thumb and index finger tight against that ring lefty - lossy righty tighty! And that whlud fix your issue..
I have a bit bigger Meike 28/f1.8 manual lens. The build quality is robust! I wish that it was weather sealed but it's not :) Another big wish - an auto-focus )) But the overall feel - as a best soviet/german 20th century lens. Smoothest focus and aperture rings. No notches on the aperture control but it's not an issue for me.
I've compared it to 7Artisans 35mm manual and was surprised that for a higher price 7Artisans' lens was giving blurry edges for distant objects even on highest f values!
I must be lucky my copy is good no rattle, sharp, I think it works out to a 43mm on full frame, its a nice lens if your on a budget, a beginner etc.......
All lens elements move - question is: Are those in the correct position when in use? e.g. because of energizing the motor.
imho it is actually not useful when people address anything when not knowing IF this is a problem at all! I do not know too; the answer can probably only be given by TT.
PS: "My copy". These things are done in thousands. The possibility that "your copy" is different is by statistic not existent. In my old business - a similar one to foto - the after sales % was in the range or 0,001-2%.
I had this lens for few weeks and I could not get to slow and loud AF. Never had native 27mm from Fuji but for me this lens is no no
I like TT but have not had the money. Auto focus from them is a big step. The manual focus seem better made. The ec Fuji are very cheap and plastic mount as well. Damn, perhaps you got a real lemon? 🤷
Honestly I think you were a bit harsh on the bokeh of this lens - I was expecting far worse! From the samples you showed, it looks perfectly fine and not distracting at all (unlike, say, the Fuji 18-55, which has HIDEOUS bokeh).
The photo with the gingerbread house I like it on the gingerbread but not on the left side on your daughter. It has a weird circle line or what ever you want to call it.
Taylor Jackson the wedding photographer got a hold of the Samsang 85mm f1.4 for Canon because told them to take it off the market and that lens has nice lens flare. Even the Canon name brand lens have nice lens flare but the problem is there is no choice with Canon.
I did see a side by side Sony 50mm f1.2 no lens flare but the Canon 50mm f1.2 has lens flare. Also the Samsang 50 f1.4 or maybe its a f1.2 has nice lens flare.
I really do think all companies should make a few lens one with coating and one without coating. Maybe like the 35mm, 50, 85mm, and a 135mm.
my copy doesn't rattle ... so I suppose it's not supposed to be like that ...
Clearly, it's not supposed to be like that. ;)
Mine doesn’t rattle at all
I think you have a bad copy mine doesn’t rattle at all, flare/vignettes is not good though.
The perfect first Fuji lens is the 18-55
I'd agree, it helps you figure out what your favorite focal length is, and then you can buy your first prime based on that
No it's not. It really sucks
@@unbroken1010for the price(either bundled with a camera, or for peanuts from somewhere like MPB) it's perfect. It's compact, has IBIS and the image quality is inoffensive
@@CianMcsweeney inoffensive? 🤣.
@@unbroken1010 as in the image quality is good enough to not be an issue:
inoffensive
/ˌɪnəˈfɛnsɪv/
adjective
not objectionable or harmful.
Are you sure you didn’t get a bad lens copy?
Mount the lens on a camera then turn on the camera on. Now shack it. Still make that noise? Bad lens. Return it. If not hen it is OK.

Why would somebody buy this lens? Just find one of the original 27mm f2.8 and move on 😅 I have 3 of them. Literally the best all around lens. I use it as a lens cap 😅
Yo : )
How's it going?
@@AndrewGoodCamera Been a while! I stopped UA-cam for a long time but been getting back into it lately. Funny enough was looking for a cheap light lens for the fuji and here you are :)
after 11 mins of watching this I still have the same questions .... what is the name of this lens?
00:10
TTArtisan AF 27mm F2.8
Perfect ? Wiggling is perfect ? You are joking ,,,right ?
I never said it was perfect. It was a question
@@AndrewGoodCamera It was also a question from me.
