*Stuntpeople deserve Oscar recognition* It’s insane those people, who take the biggest risks for films, don’t get recognized for it.
Not just the performers too, you need stunt coordinators to block the whole scene out and make sure it’s safe. They’re the ones who make the stunts look so spectacular, they deserve some credit too.
They do get credit, just most people walk out of the movie then. They always list stunt performers in the credits. Though I believe if the actor they do stunts for is nominated or wins an award then they should get them too.
Belle Melvaine then why do we give actors, directors, and writers distinct Oscar categories?? They are all listed right there in the credits too, with the marquee names getting it before and after the movie. Shouldn’t that be more than enough credit for those groups?
I giveup No. we’re recognizing the actual people who pull off literal death-defying stunts, so particularly our action heroes can look badass in their movies.
A participation trophy would be the “lifetime achievement awards” already handed out by the Oscars, because they aren’t being awarded for a specific acting job or role, but basically for being successful in hollywood for +20yrs. That’s the epitome of a participation trophy.
Stunt teams and stunt people’s *work* is what I’m saying needs to be recognized, as being worthy of praise equal to the actors they risk their lives for.
Just 1 example from a much longer stunt sequence: successfully and safely, pulling off a double 20sec burn stunt, being catapulted 52ft into a lake 18sec in, and then finally the 2 stunt performers having to stay underwater in a water collecting 47lb burn suits for another 10 seconds, all at night. Exactly what the stunt team for Freddy vs Jason successful pulled off. The entirety of that movie’s many stunts got them nominated for a single “Taurus Award”, which I’m sure 99% of people don’t even know is even a thing.
There used to be awards for stunt people and stunt crews back in the 90s but it lost its value because most movies and television rely on CGI now.
Glad the driver from Transformers got $18M. When they said they were only suing for $350K I was shocked. Losing a third of your skull is definitely something worth millions...
Couldn't agree more! Sounds like accepting that extra role has ruined the poor lady's life. It was good to hear that the settlement ended being WAY more than the initial figure.
I never knew how dangerous it was to act ... I thought everything was just fake and void of accidents ... Turns out Bruce Lee's death makes so much more sense now.
@@nosiphodywili35 I mean, yes, Bruce died on set, but that was nothing to do with filming. Brandon Lee, however...
@@damien4197 bruce didn't die on set. He did collapse while recording adr a couple months prior. But he didnt die from that. he died while at a colleague's house due to an allergic reaction from a painkiller that caused his brain to swell.
@@bigkmoviesandgames You're right, I always saw the "collapsed due to brain swelling while recording lines for enter the dragon", and knew that's what he died of, and never realised there was a gap where no one got that shit sorted...
Could have also mentioned how the child actors who were killed in the Twilight Zone movie were being used in violation of a California law that prohibited child actors from working in close proximity to explosions and pyrotechnics, and from working after dark. So yeah, that was definitely factored into the lawsuit.
Could have also mentioned the names of those being sued. Such as John Landis.
I keep remembering the graphic video every time when I watch the Twilight Zone movie.
Don't forget the helicopter was flying to low in the scene that the pyrotechnics also cause the pilot to have flashbacks of PTSD and crash onto them. The PTSD I'm uncertain, supposedly the pilot was Vietnam vet and ended up having flashbacks from the explosions that caused him to crash.
As for the kids, they weren't from the country which gave the filmmakers the ability to film and pay them less for the scene (and avoid certain laws that only applied to people born in the US). It's after the lawsuit that laws were created to prevent any child actor from a situation like this.
I thought I read that the pilot and the pyrotechnics specialist both said it was too dangerous to bring the helicopter that low over the effects but the director over ruled them?
@@danamoore1788 Yeah, I think I read something like that. They didn't want to but were ultimately forced by the director to do it.
@@danamoore1788
Yes, you are correct. Unfortunately, that director continued to have a career in Hollywood as his friends in the industry actually made sure to give him work. Shows what low-lives they are.
My favourite sueing was a lady that tried to sue the makers of drive because there was enough driving in the film.
MrGriff305 i
She’s on to something there. That movie was sinfully boring.
Enough?
Wow
@@scremped Boring? That movie is fantastic. You probably like the Transformers movies.
If anyone should’ve sued Cameron for avatar, it should be the writers of Fern Gulley.
and dances with wolves and spirited away and last of the samurai and most of the people who created early 1770-1880's literature about 1 person from 1 race joining an entirly new one only to become their savior who teaches them to evolve
The second I left the movie theater after watching Avatar I told my ex girlfriend...."I feel like I've seen this movie before". Ten minutes later I yelled out "Fern Gulley!!!".
Got it...🌱
I actually started supporting the mechsuit guy because the other side were so cliched
or Peyo...
Sueing a film studio for a movie "inspiring" events is bullshit on a new level.
I'd agree, but then again with how legislation is clamping down on social media, I think we're starting to appreciate the impact of brainwashing on humans..
@@phattjohnson Social Media started the fight by clamping down on people posting to be "inciting violence" on others, "legitimizing racism", etc. So legislation clamping down on social media for their lack of respect to the first amendment is worth legislating in my opinion.
Especially considering unnamed groups of people working for corporations are the ones making the harsh decisions that can affect small businesses and regular people. I think the allowance of moderation is what screwed up forums and social media. A long time ago, if you have no moderation, then you're a platform. If you moderate, then you're a publisher.
People trying to criminalize incivility in discourse is plain stupid.
I'm assuming you've never heard of propaganda, then?
@@eggsnspam The First Amendment only applies to govts. Not private companies. You don't have any right to say what you want outside of criticising your government and get away with it. People need an education on what free speech actually is.
Secondly, social media users spread propaganda and manipulated statistics to incite hatred, which in turn will incite violence.
That's why it's being cut down on.
That’s Jack Thompson for you.
John Landis literally and figuratively got away with murder. He was the one that got into a very large argument with the Helo pilot on how he needed to fly just off the deck. Everyone knew what was going to happen next because of all the pyrotechnics that hit the Helo and flew out of control. SOB should be sitting in prison.
What a disgusting pig Landis is and an awful miscarriage of justice but that's how those media types are. They see anybody not in their clique as inferior and worthless. Doubt he lost any sleep over this tragedy.
Holy shit, his son is Max Landis, another SOB/POS. Guess it runs in the family.
@@mayaw.4013 I'd say it runs in their culture
Landis was not there, that was second unit and the Stunt Coordinator.
@@michaelbeacom8277 That's entirely BULLSHIT!! Were you there that night (And if so what was your job. Above or below the line?) when Landis was yelling and screaming at his Stunt Coordinator and especially the pilot of the helo? It went on for about an hour and a half about how the pilot said he wouldn't do it and the stunt coordinator was agreeing with him. The Stunt Coordinator HAD to be there because he's in charge of directing that particular stunt. It wasn't until Landis threaten to blackball the both of them from Hollywood so that they would never work again. That bullshit about "You'll never work in this town again" is such an empty threat nowadays. Too bad back then they did not understand such nonsense.
Brandon Lee's mom sued the makers of the Crow because they killed her son. They settled out of court, but I don't know for how much.
Yeah. I don't imagine the "Lee Curse" would be much of a defense in court.
"Your Honor, the curse put on the Lee family with Chi magic says that every male descendant will suffer..."
Judge interrupts: "Are you on drugs? The negligence of your production cost the life of a young actor!"
Brad Pitt killed Bruce Lee...
@H Higgins I was just making a reference to the "controversy" from the "Hollywood" movie with Brad Pitt's character besting Lee in a fight.
2018 Incident in a Ghost Land star Taylor Hickson suffered a facial laceration from a glass door that shattered after the director of the film told her to strike it harder and harder in each take while informing her that it was completely safe to do so.
Oh damn
Really? Paramount wouldn't hand over $350,000 ??? Dumb decision considering how much it cost them in the end.
It wasn't their decision. Of course they would have settled, preferably out of court, but most likely the jury are the ones who decided on the higher amount.
To be fair, doubtful that Paramount made that call. Whatever insurance company they paid to cover the production was calling the shots.
Alien 3 (1992) - Michael Biehn sued 20th Century Fox for using his likeness to portray the death of his character Hicks in the film's opening scene. He received a settlement that was almost as high as what he was paid for Aliens (1986).
They shouldn’t have killed hicks and newt so they deserve it
@@donaldtusk2678 Got that right.
That should be under biggest let down in beginning of a movie. I was pissed. Glad dude sued.
He didn't sue them. They stiffed him in a different contract and then had to come back to him for the rights to use his likeness (picture) to do the death. So he said and stuck to the incredibly high figure and they paid.
Hedy Lamarr was a genius. Held a few patents. Worth looking her up
With Crispin Glover, wasn't the issue also that they had used recycled footage of him without his consent?
They covered that in the video. They already had the right to use any unused (or used) footage from first film, so didn't need his permission.
Well... good question actually... since an actor is paid per movie, if they do use additional footage, are they required to pay the actor as a separate movie in a small role...
Also Glover has said in interviews that Bob Gale has falsely stated that Glover wanted to be paid the same as Michael J Fox, but he himself said he wanted to be paid the same as Lea Thompson.
@trailobyte Its highly likely Glovers contract with BTTF 1 relinquished all rights to any footage taken while in production. The production company or film studio can reuse footage without additional compensation; although, royalty clauses may play a small role when reused footage results in additional revenue.
@@wallymcquade5880 feel like there would be something in the SAG that specifies, either before or after the films release... sequels are all the rage these days more so than before...
Fun fact: the "floating island" art referenced by artist Roger Dean (who is, coincidentally, a super-famous creator of hard rock and heavy metal album covers) and visible in this clip, is the artwork of hard rock legends Uriah Heep's stellar 1995 album "Sea of light".
I would hardly describe Yes as Hard Rock.
@@andrewcarter1747 Then you'd be wrong. Because they most certainly are. Among other things.
@@erikthompson619 You say Yes, I say No.
When I first saw Avatar i thought "oh! They must've got Roger Dean to do the art & design for this movie!" It's not just the planet's geology, it's the plants & animals too. Look at any YES album cover!
I'm right there with you!
850000 dollars for the family of the victims of that Helicopter accident? Seriously? How much money does the studio that produced that film make?
The $850000 was for the kids of the one actor. It didn't say how much the families of the kids got.
@@Emophiliac2 thanks
“Landing on” the Twilight Zone actors? Try “decapitating” them. That’s a better description of the accident.
I dont even understand what you're trying to say because your quotation marks are in the wrong place, you have failed english.
The only example I gave a damn about was the extra driving in Transformers 3. Couldn't believe how much the original estimate was. So glad she was well compensated in the end.
9:28 that was pretty hectic stuff
The Laundromat is particularly hilarious when you consider that everyone who starred in the movie and worked on it is complicit in an industry that regularly uses similar tactics and accounting tricks.
Or they actually were customers, like Emma Watson.
intresting topic of a video. keep it up
John Wayne's the Conquers was filmed on a nuclear bomb test site, later they refilmed some scenes and they used sand from the test site on the sound stage. Most of crew died from cancer.
I actually had to look that one up but it requires a bit of context. Although in the 1950s, radiation damage was well understood, the exact AMOUNT of radiation damage, and how much the common people understood wasn't exactly stellar. They were still less informed than we were. It was at the time 'lead paint' was seen as something that could save your life in your house.
Second, the crew was informed by officials that the site was safe to perform on. They had authority figures informing them that it was fine... unfortunate, yes...
Finally, they were not directly on top of the test site, they were actually one hundred or so miles away... combine this with a very poor understanding and no doubt the government not telling people HOW MANY nukes were tested there (It was a lot), they probably just went on to film their remarkably terrible movie anyways.
Hol up...no resident evil? The stuntwoman lost so much, and iirc she won a bunch of money.
She was already mentioned in the first list.
?????

What about looney toons back in action
They nearly got sued for using the daleks
I'm sure they'll include that in their next "10 movie scenes that *almost* led to massive lawsuits" video

Troy Dyer is me! And I’m actually from Beverly Hills, CA and the fact that I never gave permission is why NO WRITTEN DOCUMENTS were ever presented by NBCUniversal.
10:00 - Wait... Her family only wanted $350K and Paramount FOUGHT IT?
As I I needed more reason to hate the Transformers movies.
It's quite possible that paramount didn't 'fight' it so much as they went through legal proceedings in accordance to how things are done. There are a lot of lawsuits where the defendant (a company) is often not claiming they did correct, they're just there to make sure the proceeding stays fair and is based on reality and not going out of hand by NOT being there.
The settlement went up to the millions, I really doubt Paramount 'fought' it so much as just made sure that all the facts were portrayed accurately.
@@aickavon Which I would buy, if "out of court settlements" weren't a thing.
@@robertpaige4505 It's true enough though I wonder how much they would've settled out of court. I still think there is more to the story, I wonder if we can find the court records.
11:19 Maybe we should sue Disney for using unused footage of Carrie Fisher in the latest Star Wars Film
That footage was shot with her permission. Disney didnt use it for Ep. VII, but that doesnt necessarly means they arent allowed to use it for Ep. IX
As mentioned in the video, rules were changed afterwards to ensure the studio could still use an actor's likeness for the character.
Why? Unused footage is not suable. She was paid to do those scenes and Disney owns the right to them. The argument Glover had was someone being made up to look like him as there was nothing he can do to stop them using footage he was paid to do and they own. Plus, with the Star Wars films, a lot of the last two films were filmed at the same time, much like Back to the future 2 and 3 were.
Plus why would you sue them? Do you have some connection to Carrie? The fact her fucking daughter was in the film and didn't have a problem with it, so why should you?
Look up the film "Midnight Rider" that got 2nd AC Sarah Jones killed
Expected to see this on here as well, especially given the sensational nature of the accident.
It was on the first list
Suing for emotional distress from having to read "gets" with an apostrophe... LOL
Yeah I feel a lawsuit coming on for every bad movie I wasted time on. 1.6 million for emotional damage
Which emotion did they damage?
I should sue over frequent inappropriate commercials.
Evilkittyof doom, k, thanks.:)
"A serbian film" had a lawsuit for child pornography. Notable scenes includes a fake live birth where the baby gets taken after and intercourse ensues. Also a man performing intercourse on his own son. Most messed up movie I have ever seen.

@@OldestYoungenInGuidePost Are we still pushing that conspiracy theory?
When you do a follow-up video I think it would be a good idea to include a link to the original in the (i) thing in the corner, and perhaps also in the description as well
Interesting how John Landis was only referred to as "the director" like youre trying to protect him lol. The child actors that died were also illegally working during the shoot. Real tragedy all around.
“Lost about a third of the top of her head” that could be a lot or just a little bit depending on where the top of a persons head starts
I don't wanna laugh but fucking hell lol.
Michael Biehn sued 20th Century Fox for using his image in Alien 3 without his permission, he was awarded an amount nearly that to his salary in Aliens.

Some of these lawsuits... in particular the ones where the person suing shared a name with a movie's character... are so pathetic.
So that said, does this mean I can file a lawsuit against George of the Jungle (the movies and/or cartoons), due to all the ridicule I received as a child because my name just happens to be George?

Avatar with its blue main characters and floating islands and people spending hours looking for unobtainable emeralds is just a rip off of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Ill do you one better, Pocahontas in space.

amazing it took until 1989 for them to realize they shouldn't have a look a likes in films and not give money to said actors, they tried to do it in Alien 3, with Michael Biehn in pre production
The Dueling Banjos song used in Deliverance.
It's worth saying, sometimes in the case of a workplace accident, the production company's insurance has limits of liability. In the case that these accidents lead to greater expenses than are covered by the liability policy, the victim must sue the production company to have these expenses paid.
Actually the floating islands are much closer to World of Warcraft's zone Nagrand than anything else.
The helicopter accident was actually filmed and can be found pretty quick with a search.
If you slow it down enough, you can see them get bisected by the helicopter blades.
It's gross but it is one of the darker marks on Spielberg's illustrious career. Child actors were given more rights and barred from participating in reckless stunts. The deaths were not only avoidable but was complete negligence on the part of the production as almost everything that could go wrong did.
@jockadoobee
I was just explaining just how screwed up the situation was.
The Basketball Diaries really is a brilliant movie with a brilliant performance from Dicaprio.

Awww, po' wittle Bwucie wasn't kept safe in an ACTION movie! I don't know why he'd even *bring* that kind of lawsuit, as it totally undermines his "Tough Guy" image!
You mean his tough guy actor image? I don't blame him for sueing tbh but the way he worded it was such an overexageration.
Hey Heath high school was in my hometown. I remember the shooting. We've had two in this area
The Crispin Glover case sets a very important precedent given how good Hollywood is at reproducing faces digitally.
The advent of CGI has caused a number of performers to register their faces as trademarked intellectual property, just to stop their likeness being used without their permission ( getting paid for it ), since their appearance is what they use to earn an income.
I remember requested the twilight zone one😁
In an Italian comic movie there was a scene where the protagonist (an old retired accountant) tried to feel "young" again by accompany himself with younger punks trowing rocks over highway overpass
es, and they pulled that scene away from the movie when someone did it for real killing someone, and the publisher of the movie got sued and received a massive shitstorm.
If I remember correctly a stuntman lost an eye filming a fight scene in Cyborg
Don't want to sound cruel, but when you sign up to be a stuntperson, you assume risks most people don't, so you have to accept that you can be injured more than most.
They should get Roger Dean to help on the avatar sequels !
Actually, the minute you mentioned Dean, yeah, the art style is very clearly inspired by his large body of work.
Hahaha! SO glad that Paramount didn't accept 350k and instead had to dish out 18 MILLION!!! Right on!

I actually thought the floating islands in Avatar came from the Negrand in World of Warcraft. Maybe Warcraft copied someone's art, but that was what I thought at the time.
The #1 spot just reminds me of that one actor that got back from the grave to do a scene or 2 in Starwars? Hmmm 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Twilight Zone the Movie: They were killed more by the helicopter's rotor blades chopping them to bits more than the helicopter landing on them.

@Ocasio-Cortez4prez2022 sounds like the producers should have gone through the proper paperwork and procedures to make the movie.
@Ocasio-Cortez4prez2022 But very, very funny.
Sacha Baron Cohen's entire career is based on outright lying to people...
Different spelling that's why they couldn't.
The only one from that movie who has a legitimate case is Borat's sister. He announces her as the country's fourth best prostitute when clearly she's #2 at worst. Defamation of character!
Netflix's defense for "the laundrymat" is that the plaintiff is "Defamation-Proof" as defined by case law Cardillo v. Doubleday & Co., Inc.

I couldn't pay attention to much after I heard Netflix trying to accuse others of censoring them...
Should have had the one there about Resident Evils stunt double who lost an arm and sued the production company.
I don’t know if I can believe that Transformers one, we all know that chase scene was basically lifted from The Island and had robots added to it.
What about Maximum Overdrive? The director of photography, Armando Nannuzzi, was injured when a remote controlled lawnmower hit a wooden block and sent wooden splinters at him. He lost his right eye because of it and sued for $18 million.
The studios must be careful and wary for the safety of the people they employ.
People gonna sue ! I think that most cases are crap, but in cases like the helicopter crash, the stunt driver's accident, those warrant the real payouts.
I was surprised that Greg Bear did not sue over the 2000 film "The Cell" which seems to have taken it's entire plot from his amazing 1990 book "Queen of Angels".....
According to Tom Wilson's book, he was paid less for his role as Biff in bttf 2 and 3 than Crispin Glover was in his settlement over the misuse of his likeness. The two remain great friends since their time on the first film.
Avatar ripped of so much from Frank Herbert books : Dune and Destination Void, theres even a planet called Pandora.
Bruce Willis is a wanker
I was thinking of Incidents in a Wasteland, where an actress was cut on set and sued after being left with a facial scar. But I guess it's low profile compared to some of these.
If anything, the floating islands bear striking resemblances to Basic Lands in Magic: The Gathering.
Hedey Lamar: inventor of frequency-hopping transmission protocols.
She was getting drunk with a pianist, and they were playing with a player-piano.
She asked "Could the holes on the player rolls be used to tune a radio to different stations?" "Yesh"
Then she asked "Would a third party, without the player rolls, make sense of what they heard listening on just one station?" "Nope"
Cryptographic radio was born.
The Navy and State department classified the idea right away.
It's used in cell-phones and portable devices the world over.
Frequency hopping can make a transmitter 'vanish' by spreading the signal out very broadly.
How am I only now learning that the actor changed for back to the future 2?!
About Avatar's rocks .. could be false, but I remember Cameron talking about the movie how his plan to shot it was since 1995 or so, but couldnt becase everyone laughed at him and technology did not allow it too much ..

Stephen Speilberg did Jaws, Close Encounters, ET, 1941, Raiders of the Lost Arc. He was sued for each of those save 1. Which 1? The only one which he was not sued for was 1941, which was a box office flop. This is not a coincidence.
I remember the Twilight Zone Movie and that negligence lawsuit. That put all of Hollywood on notice. The way movie stunts were done was called into question.
Didn't "The Program" get sued because kids were lying in the street, in the middle of traffic and getting run over, which caused them to pull the scene from the movie?
Resident Evil movie lawsuit should be on here. She was a stunt driver who crashed her bike into a crane mounted camera and was so severely injured they had to amputate her arm.
For that map lawsuit, I wouldn’t pay him a cent and just blur the map out of the shot.
