Killer Instinct Gold (Actual N64 Capture) - Gargos Playthrough on Master Difficulty

- This is a capture of me playing through Killer Instinct Gold for the Nintendo 64 using the hidden boss character, Gargos. This is not an emulator. This footage was recorded directly from my Nintendo 64 using an actual Killer Instinct Gold cartridge. I'm playing on Master Difficulty.
Here's a brand new 60 fps playthrough with Gargos to replace my old footage. Also, while recording this playthrough, I made an interesting discovery. Although Killer Instinct Gold was one of the earliest Nintendo 64 titles, it runs all of its menu/selection screens at a high resolution of 640x480i. The game then switches to the standard 240p mode (at 60 fps) during the actual matches. So I had to deinterlace my footage two different ways for this video (once for 240p and once for 480i) and then splice together the two deinterlaced videos.
Even though the prior game's boss, Eyedol, was incredibly overpowered, this game's boss, Gargos, is extremely limited and not all that useful. He has only two openers, no super moves (which renders his super bar useless), no linker, no ultra combo or finishing move, and only one ender for his combo (the Claw Uppercut).
When you compare Gargos directly to Eyedol, who can open any combo with a single button press (for instance, Medium Punch), charge across the entire screen and shoot a cluster of three fireballs at a time, you can see just how underpowered Gargos is.
To access Gargos, you have to wait until the character roster appears during the main menu and then press Z, A, R, Z, A, B. You'll hear Gargos's laugh if you input the combination right.
Because Gargos is so limited, I feel this playthrough isn't all that exciting (especially since you can't do Killer or Ultra Combos), but I tried my best. The AI tends to be a pain in the ass as well when you're using Gargos, blocking most of your moves and making it hard to land openers. So that's why I use the Claw Uppercut so much. It's one of the safest ways to do damage. Also, I find that the double claw swipe (forward + Fierce Kick) makes for a good opener (just add a Claw Uppercut if it lands).
As I've said before, I played the first Killer Instinct when it hit the arcades in 1994 and I later picked up my own copy of the game for the SNES. When Killer Instinct 2/Gold hit a couple years later, I was a little disappointed with the changes to the mechanics and the character roster, but over time I began to really appreciate the game.
Recorded with the Hauppauge HD PVR and the official N64 S-video cable at 60 frames per second. I used a Toshiba model D-R550 DVD Recorder to standardize the N64's native 240p/480i signal so that the Hauppauge could capture the console's audio/video signal.
I'm using a standard N64 controller.
This was My Very 1st N64 game for 1996 on Christmas. When I saw the Nintendo 64 logo For Killer Instinct Gold, I was HYPE!
god that opening theme is so nostalgic
It hit me like a train
Gargos's evil laugh is the best.
man i miss playing the 64 version this game brought back good memories of fighting with jago and kim wu
Ah yeah, because they are not in the arcade version, of course
A killer instinct movie wouldn’t be bad
Maybe..
What a ridiculous idea ! What would be the story ? It would look absolutely atrocious !
A werewold, a robot, an iceman etc etc... Grow up, jesus christ
@@Absolutely_puck_fakestine Rude...
@@ariellewilson730 It's just realistic. It's a video game, with characters from very different "worlds", all of this in a movie would look like a cheesy mess.
@@Absolutely_puck_fakestine But you don't say it's a ridiculous idea. Just because someone has an idea doesn't mean you have the right to put them down.
To be honest, I preffer this game on N64 than arcade. I like how the stages remember those of KI1, with all that rotation and zoom in/out. I always thought KI2 on arcades was an underdeveloped game for some reason.
Great playing, BTW.
i know what you mean, Combo’s stage totally looks a thousand times better on the N64 than on the arcade easily
According to Chris Seavor in his video series, KI2 was a rushed game. And the team responsible for KI Gold really struggled with cartridge space limitations. But yeah, apart from removed animations and lower character resolutions due to space constraints, KI Gold looks way better than KI2.
ua-cam.com/video/IfIyndldOAg/v-deo.html Have you seen the real arcade cabinet version? i think killer instant 2 runs on n64 hardware. killer instinct 1 is the original midway game running arcade hardware.. hence why 1 looks more advanced.
ua-cam.com/video/v4EOwbV2KlM/v-deo.html and arcade better sound. the n64 had poor sound
N64 had great sound and this largely proves it.
Kim on "Master" difficulty is always fun to fight. No matter what, she always gets a combo in there so quick.
Saberwulf is top tier lol
Man... you are really skilled! Congratulations!! Your gameplay is AMAZING!!
Thanks.
Best N64 fighting game
Agreed, MK is ok but this rivals SF in style and gameplay. N64 had a short list but this is on top. Smash isn’t orthodox, Fighters Destiny is cool but Tekken overshadowed it, and a few were just bad. Though Flying Dragon is a hidden Gem.
Seems like he also got probably the best stage music in this entire game. Definitely better than the one he gets in KI 2013.
Kneel To Your God is godly, what are ya on about?
@@SenatorArmstrong2018 It's good, but this one is better.
@@EnvisionerWill Ehh..people have their own preferences and I'm not gonna judge you for yours.
Gawd he looks so much better, appropriate even, in this than in the remake. There he's too skinny, frail looking with an inhuman butt for a face.
N64 designs were way better then the new one for sure. They fucked up my boy sabarwolf😂
This literally felt like owing the Arcade machine when this came out on N64 after years of playing KI1 on the snes
It must be remarked that this playthrough is much more realistic than those whose authors claim to play in such a skilled way that bears no comparison to even the creators. As a KI fan I really love the feeling to this being taken from the original console
And not to mention it's clearly visible how real this gameplay is by seeing that the player is being damaged rather than endless ultra victories in a row.
Thanks.
Bruhh just picked this up for the n64 cant wait to play
Good old throwback😁
Gargos theme is rockiiiinggg Cool
I play this game everyday. I swear to God! I know all ultimates and most codes.
He provided my first rage quit on n64 lol
Mine too it took me forever to beat him but I spammed glaciers understand uppercut for two rounds straight and finally beat him
It's a shame they didn't give him any finishers, I'm sure they would of been epic if they did.
Actually i am trying learn to play KIG with Tusk, i make good combos in practice mode , but i cannot doit in arcade mode, hahaha.
Do you think Gargos is broken for friendlies and tournament play? He looks like a normal character here: he doesn't have special moves that consume the super bar and his laugh reflects projectiles instead of healing him. He can fly, but he can't block while flying.
I think he's gimped for competition level.
@@WatchmeplayNintendo I knew it! Thanks for your answer friend. By the way, great video.
Thank you.
i don’t get why the announcer doesn’t at all sound like he’s saying “Gargos” when he says his name, sounds like he’s saying “TARHEM”
GunmetalProject (Lennon) must be severely compressed cause the arcade version sounds pretty clear to me.
I hear “Gargos” as clear as day
What are you using to capture? With the constant resolution change on the character select screen it has me puzzled on how to effectively capture the game.
The description says everything.
How do you unlock him on Rare Replay?
Right thumbstick, A , Right Trigger, Right thumbstick, A , B.
Must need Ultra Instinct
I know I’m late to the KI: Gold parade, but why did the developers make changes that didn’t need fixing in the first place?
What changes
N. NOOO s NOOO x NOOO s NOOO 2:21 😮
i'll stick to this on my console vs the new one
how do you unlock gargos in Nintendo 64
Wait until the screen goes to the bio and press Z A R Z A B
When you're on the home screen, wait til it starts showing a character profile, then enter ZARZAB.
hell yeah. now that's my game. thanks .
Exactly! Mine too
Go Glaciuse
Wait....So Orchid vanquished Idol alone
But it took both Orchid and Jago to defeat Fulgore????
@Napalm Fulgore, to me, is more difficult to beat than Eyedol.
How do we unlock gargos I need him
When you're on the home screen, wait til it starts showing a character profile, then enter ZARZAB.
Or just play as him on ki3
Bluestar xfirestar Warriorcats hold this L for not reading the description bitch.
Gargos is really difficult to use and basically sucks to play as.
gargos is coming in may on ki season 3
+Hank Greve can't wait! =)
He's released!
Gargos hits hard as I dont know what.
Does gargos have any ultra combos or no
no he doesn't
No bill no 0:05 😅
How do you play gargos?
OOH GAR RAR
What exactly was the point of including a basically 2D Bridge stage in a 3D fighting game?
It’s a 2d fighter actually. Though it used 3d backgrounds the gameplay is SF 2d style.
0:49 Partner!
I hear that lmao
How do you do combos with t hat stiff ass n64 d pad.
Rare messed up this isn't an improvement on K1
Bro how do you unlock this dude and does he do combo and ultimates?
His kit reminds me of Riptor + Sabrewulf.
Doesn't Gargos have an ultra or ultimate?
Whos gargos why you loved
Aren't people playing this on the Xbox One now?
como desbloqueas los niveles? :(
.en la descripción del vídeo dice como desbloquear a gargos
