  • In this series I cover key features of backpacking boot construction to help you in your purchase decision. I may have left some things out but I cover the important parts. I don't review specific boots and probably won't ever: models change frequently and it's just logistically impossible for me now. Using the info I provide here just give a good basis for getting the right heavy duty hiking boot.
** Please do not PM me with questions about specific boot models and what would be good for you. I apologize but I just don't have the time to research it for you.

I THOUGHT I remembered seeing a vid about hiking boots! Glad I went searching and found this series. As usual, VERY informative and really helps with making not only the right choices, but also (like with ANYTHING you review) helps your set aside money for the boot you'll actually buy. Your are your best asset in the outdoors...they should ALWAYS get the royal treatment...ESPECIALLY when you're in harsh conditions.
    Thanks Nutn!

So, nutnfancy. I am an avid hiker, adventurer, and backpacker. I have hiked multiple long distance trails and have found some problems with the gear i use. I would like hiking gear than can double as tactical gear, like jackets with primaloft, goretex or other patented outdoor technologies. All of my hiking gear is brightly colored, but nice and durable, wicks moisture, doesnt smell after not being washed for long periods of time, etc. I want clothing and gear that is more functional in a tactical sense, is made for the elements, i.e. nlt made of cotton or out of date canvas, and has a bug out typephilosophy of use. Why dont companies like mountain hardware, or marmot make tactical clothing? It seems like they could do it better than the companies that do make it.

I remember when I had to buy my combats for field exersises when I was in the Cadets (as the seniors wore them) My boots that I happend to get were a couple sizes teo big. the first time out, my feet were in absoulute pain. But I tripple layered the Wool Socks to make them fit better and after that no problems. What surprised me was how water resistant they were. If I can find a another pair that is relitivly new in my size I woll pick them up rightaway as they are good in the snow.

Thank you soooo much for this video! I went out and bought $60 boots thinking they would do good in the snow because my other ones wore out. I had to come back down aced day 1 because they ripped but mostly because the material in side kept giving be blisters.

I got a pair of leather hiking boots that look alot like those. you all can laugh, but I payed 2 bucks for them at goodwill. THEY ROCK! waterproof, very comfortable, and rugged. I've punished them for 2 years and I'll prolly be wearing them for another 5 or more.

what i always wanted to know is why my issue combat boots were (the old altima black leather ones) were so horrible in wear, on icy side walks, on muddy ground. I actually put staples at one point on the bottom so i could get to the chow hall without falling. (by the way the staples really did work!)

I used german Lowa's. They are almost bombproof, fit great and dont cost the earth.
Im not sure if you can get them in America but over here almost all of British Army wear Lowa's(well, atleast most of my battalion lol)

I'm sorta in the same boat. I wear something between a 9 and 9 1/2 and boot never fit me either. They'll always be too loose or too tight,
Try an Army surplus store. It worked for me.

-try on at a store (then order online if you want) , in evening when feet are more swollen, with the socks you plan to wear them with (-thin liner sock & thicker synthetic sock is a good system)
    -comfortable toebox
-Heel grasps snugly (minimize heel slippage &-> blisters)
    -boot will shorten in length
    materials:
Full-grain Leather ("excellent - takes the wear")
    Newbuck Leather (smooth suede-like)
Roughcut Leather- nutnfancy does not prefer

for my feet haix boots and shoes are best fitting. no problems waling with them the whole day. they are made of quite good quality so i think i will stick to them. but after all - as has been said already - anybody has to find out which shoe fits best to himself.

Great amount, of great info :) (if you still see posts from old vids like these) to make a short story even shorter, I am now the proud owner of a Brand New pair of Danner Desert Acadia Boots. Traded for em, and they fit me well, need to break em in as with all new boots (any suggestion on break in secrets?),do you know if or would you ask if, Nutn' has had any experience with this company, it's all new to me, but it seems the best quality I've dealt with since my old Red Wings. Thanks

  • @diamondd11

@XCritonX etc, are all examples of these types of services. And while some people might think it's a good idea to remove the government's hand from their lives, I disagree. If your house is burning, do you want to fight it with only hoses and your neighbors help? Do you drive on paved roads? What can protect you from hostile nearby nations? Who should help when there is a hurricane?
This is not supposed to be sarcastic or mocking in any way. I simply wonder what your answers are to these issues

If you're smart and don't get a size that's too big you can easily stretch a boot out for a custom fit. As should be done with all shoes, imho.

I have wide, flat, size 16s (?EUR 48ish), huge calves and ankles. My selection ability is ZERO. All I can find are cheapo boots sans support that bling and fall apart after break-in. None of the boots by any of the makers in this vid, make anything in my size at all.
I know SOMEONE makes boots for me. I had to parcel post the German Daytona factory, to get motorcycle boots because again, no American manufacturer/retailer had anything with the features I was looking for.
    Little help guys? ^_^

@XCritonX Nah man I am not saying that. I am only stating that it is over-the-top and unrealistic to advocate super small or non governments.
While there is many policies, laws, etc that are highly debatable and questionable; I think there is too many government-provided services that citizens need and use every day to do away with government. Police, Firefighters, highways, quality standardization imposed on products, National Defense, consumer protection from big businesses, emergency aid,

Try these boots out you won't be disappointed. "Georgia" waterproof cc hiker work boot.$ 137.99 fullgrain leather, full steal shank, purchased@ Night Galexy. Free shipping. Try and find a better boot for the price. Won't happen. I have had several work boots made by Georgia , they make tough boots. Bridge carpenter, hard work plus walking on rebar will hurt your feet without the right boots.
