Love it! 'It's not necessarily about the size of the gig, it's about the size of the lesson.' Thank you! I just played a gig, not big, not really important but it was a great lesson for me as a bass player in a completely new environment of a big band / orchestra and reading music live. It showed me all my limitations but it also reminded me how much i love playing.
Thank you so much for watching my videos. I do agree that self-confidence is crucial not only on stage, but in life. While I can present as confident, I’ve battled low-self esteem and self-doubt for years. Speaking on it publicly and discussing some of the hard work I’ve done to internally overcome that is part of the process. Instead of fronting, I want to be transparent and give others permission to grapple with these unspoken things. As I said in my video, my lack of self-worth drove me to some pretty destructive patterns in life, and a big part of reversing that is honesty with myself and others. All this to say… I’ve been making some big strides in living authentically and playing more like me. Admitting my lack of self-confidence is a move only a confident person would make! :)
Great video, Aaron. I enjoyed seeing the band at the gig as well. I can't believe you'd never played with the bass player and keyboard player before! Y'all sounded great with Kara.
As a guitar player, aside from everything else, one of the biggest things that can affect a performance is tone, and tone can affect feel, which affects how you perform. If we are using real amps, we usually can't turn them up loud enough to get the right feel, it's almost impossible to get the right feel. It can be so soul-crushing at times
There’s always some unique variables to contend with in every situation and on every gig. It really takes practice getting in the right mind-space regardless of challenges presented.
Make sure your rested up and ready to rock n roll. All the world will be descending on Nashville in a few weeks. Seems like the more foot traffic would mean more tips ?
It all depends. I’ve actually learned not to alter expectations too much based on traffic. Sometimes there’s lots of people and very little tips and sometimes there’s less people that drop some serious money. It all usually evens out in the end.
Yo Aaron! Great topic here and I don’t think it’s discussed enough. I play drums on broadway regularly and Iv also battled with this. I find that feeling the moment and focusing on gratitude helps me the most. Anyways, I Hope to run into you sometime! Maybe chat more about this subject. 🤙🏻 just added you on instagram.
Thanks for sharing dude! I’m not on socials that much (I usually keep it off my phone and check once or twice a day from my computer), but I’ll add you back. Where do you play regularly? Would love to come support you. And thanks for sharing that you can relate and your strategies. Nashville and UA-cam have been great for me developing gratitude and realizing how many great people are in our community!
Love it!

Self confidence is a cornerstone to a long, happy, grateful life. I watch all your videos, and you have that in you. Don't let it get away

Thanks so much for the kind words and especially for coming out to the show. That really floored and humbled me!
Dude. This is class. We all have that insecurity in us but I think the biggest thing you said here was about embracing the space.. Huge that! ❤
I even had insecurity about posting this video! Thanks for the vote of confidence. Much appreciated.
I really resonate with the advice Kara gave you. Thank you for making this video and passing that along. I needed to hear it 🙏
You are so welcome!
Loved your show, keep believeing in your self. Your biggest fan Paul
Thanks a ton. Means a lot to me!
Very well spoken! Thanks for the sincere honesty and truth 👊🏻
Always!
