  • Learn from my mistakes. Buy a cheap body and get the upgrades. Don't spend any more on cheap replacement motors and gear boxes. If your planning on buying power wheels, go this route.

Underrated upgrade is on Amazon. An aluminum control module that plugs in a variable speed pedal and brake. I put voltage is something like 6-70. Slow start, low voltage cutoff, and speed limiter all in one.
I had to make major modifications because the stock brain isn’t used.

Nice build! Note if you buy lower RPM motors for higher voltages they will stay cooler and draw less current. Of course you want the final RPM to be faster than stock so you might need to do a little math to figure out RPM per volt that you will wind up with. It is proportional so not too hard to divide RPM by voltage. That number is known in the hobby RC world as KV. Hope this helps someone! Cheers!

The same thing happens to the gears ⚙️ in the rc world when you upgrade the battery. I would also like to mention lipo batteries 🔋. You can just use 1. 5s=18.5v 5000 mah lipo battery for like $80. You can also degrade to a 4s=14.8v if 5s is to much. Or upgrade to a 6s=22.2v which come with more problems lolJust solder the right connector on to the vehicle. Swap them out easy Peezy. Get a rc plane buzzer to let you know when the battery is dying, they’re super loud. A good charger is like $60. Be present when you charge them. You can buy a bat-box if your worried about safety. Unless Makita is sponsoring you then I get it lol cool build!

Haha! Nice work! Just upgraded my daughters jeep. So far I just added the 20volt batteries and the thing screams. She's doing power slides in the driveway laughing her ass off. I have 3 775 motors I pulled from an old porter cable 18volt kit . I'm going to use those in place of the 2 stock motors. I took the gear boxes apart and they look great for being 4 years old. See how they look after a few months of 20 volt power. I do need to get new pinion gears for the porter cable motors, the ones on them are set up for sawzall, skill saw and drill. I like how you kept the 12 volt for accessories. I'm gonna do that for headlights and LED strips. I like your battery set up too! How long can your daughter drive for ? I've got tons of the 3.7volt batteries I've been hoarding and I want to make a large pack, 14 to 20 batteries for a nice long run time. With the DeWalt she gets about 15 minutes on ludicrous speed😂 but we have 6 batteries and she knows how to change em so it's not too bad. Just what I needed , another hobby 😂

I had my sons power wheels doing 10mph but burnt-out the gearb box with stock motors. I put in the mltoys 540 motor and they were had a melt down in about 10 minutes. So i was out $70 since i was running 24v to them.

At 6:02 I read Dale RH25. Isn't that a resistor instead of capacitor ? Did you put it in series between the batteries and motors ?

Watch out for those motors melting the plastic zip ties. Adding a couple of cpu fans is more effective than those heatsinks but the heatsinks are still much better than bare motors.

These cars are not meant for lithium batteries. There is a adaptor that helps prevent that initial jolt the destroys your first gear. I got a 6x6 after market jeep that came at 24v for my son and have been modifying it as i go. It even came with better rubber tires.I removed the 2 front motors(improved the steering when using the remote feature) . And upgraded the front motors. I dont recommend light upgrades unless you might want to add some hazard blinkers like i did for crossing the street when we go to the park. When picking motors for upgrading , realize that younger kids cant handle the sudden pick up and braking. Does a number on their necks. 30,000rpm 550s gave my sons car too much speed at 24v. (Lowest setting is a brisk walking speed, 2nd is a jog and top speed is a full on sprint)Have to run it at low speed for now.

how long does the batteries last , how do you charge them ? do you just unplug them ? or do you have a system in place ? ans how does it do off road , ? my grandson just got the z71 from wallmart and I wanna upgrade it as he gets older

How did this work out for you? ML says not to use LI batteries with 775 motors. That said, I just purchased battery connecters for my “drill” batteries. I’m considering doing some kind of a motor controller to try and increase lifetime..

But a used cheap"power wheels" brand vehicle with the gear selector. 1 12v 2 18v R. All there wire is property sized and superior then other models that ended melting everything for me. Use the drill battery connectors as I am now, there gear. I also ran all the wire from my 6 connectors for 18v5ah batteries to two "battery post connectors". Make sure to install the resistor for the brakes so it slowly comes to a stop. Running great and goes many miles.

Had to upgrade to a dune buggy from power wheels. Every electrical connection and wire size just wasn't made to handle all that. I could of re wired everything but I got the fine buggy in perfect condition for free on side of the road so I went for it. OEM power wheels is just better quality all around.

@@ttgtrain2go300 Grip wrecks the gears. When the tires are just spinning with no grip, there's not a whole lot of stress on the gears, but when the tires won't spin, the gears need to be able to handle all of that torque (and they can't just spin to do it, at least without shearing teeth).
