I didn't know I had a chunnibyou phase til I learned about this term. I used to be obsessed with Assassin's Creed and thought it was the most badass thing ever, I made props, I cosplay as the character etc. So not bad, but when I go out in public, even without cosplaying, I would imitate the way he walks and push people aside cause I have to get to my destination undetected and doing parkour! I was convinced I had a greater purpose to fulfill when all I was doing is going to my next class! I had a weird accent too, not at all Italian. I was like a freshman in high school when this was going on.
Honestly, this is the greatest series I’ve come across this year. I loved Nagatoro and someone on Reddit made a Nagatoro/Komi crossover and I got curious about this mystery cat girl… low and behold, I’m hooked on Komi Can’t Communicate.

"Love, Chunibyo, and Other Delusions" is my favorite anime series ever. About a boy entering high school after going through eighth grader syndrome all during middle school, wanting to be normal, only to end up befriending a girl who's also going through eighth grader syndrome. It's hilarious and cute and amazing animation, especially during the "fights". It's two seasons and a movie. You'll love it if you ever want to give it a shot.

I love this show… I only started watching from episode 4, but I’m so hooked… Komi is so adorable, and I love seeing her relationship grow with Tadano. I just imagine they are destined to get married. Najimi is great too. “Chuuni” refers to the second grade of Junior High School, and “byou” is short for sickness (Chuugakkou 中学校 is middle school/JHS, and byouki 病気 is sickness, and Japanese school grade counting system is Elem school grades 1 to 6, JHS grades 1 to 3, HS grades 1 to 3; ichi is one, ni is two, san is three). Basically, in middle school, one may fantasize about secretly being someone with superpowers, or as you sorta figured out, the protagonist of a manga or anime or novel. That’s why they are cursed or are trying to hold in their powers before it goes berserk, etc. So yeah, it’s someone that wants to be able to stand out or be popular because they actually just part of the crowd. As for Yadano Makeru (being a pun meaning something like, “oh dang it, I lost”), at the end of their athletic contest, the subs said something like “she was able to make a rival,” but the nuance is that she was able to make a friend… so it’s more like a “rival friend” (the word used was “tomo” which is used in “tomodachi” 友達 (friend), and means “friend” or “together”).

It's translated it means 8th grader syndrome, it's basically a sort of acting out for a young teen (usually a socially awkward middle schooler) primarily it's a ploy to get attention from others. Anime tends to show it in it's extreme form for shock or comedy value but normally it is fairly benign just dumb young kids doing stupid things in an exaggerated way to get attention.
