Served my Apprenticeship at Britten-Norman at Bembridge Airport, Isle of Wight, and have fond memories of my time there 'on the line', fitting out the bare airframes to the customer requirements..... Contentedly retired now.... 👍😎
What a great airplane. A well-known Brazilian plastic surgeon had one of those, he used it to go to/from his island (!!) just off the coast of Rio. For years on end, every weekend his pilot would land the full load of family and friends on a 500-meter grass strip on the island. Not much long after he sold the airplane, it crashed. Such a shame. No injuries to any of the 9 people on board, though.
Flew these in PR and the Virgin Islands in the late ‘70’s. Safe, stable and capable. Landed in a large parking lot on the east end of PR once to pick up models and photographer and his equipment. Flew the girls to Virgin Gorda. That was fun.
I've taken-off in three different Britten-Norman islanders (VH-RTV, VH-ISI and VH-UWV) but have never landed in one; Parachuted, static-line, DRP and freefall out of all three back in the 1980s, Wilton NSW, Australia. Ah, memories.
@ my little brother Midge who I did it with had never been in a plane before. He would tell people how he enjoyed the take-offs but had no idea of the landings. That story lasted for several years. 🙂
Seeing a FIGAS Islander again brings back memories. Always liked the livery
It is a good one!
Flew around the islands in 2019. Fantastic experience, racing the fogbank back into Stanley!
That sounds like a lot of fun, they are a joy to travel on.

I flew one of these in Canada. Fun, stable, docile and cheap to operate.
A great little aircraft all-round

What a beautiful bird. And to think of all the remote places this aircraft makes feel like a simple trip. This is what aviation excels at.
The Falkland Islanders are well served by them though keeping Islanders serviced so far from the manufacturer must be a nightmare.
Yes indeed a fantastic aircraft for islands like these.
❤
That angle on approach, wowzers!! 14:45 ish...
I know it was a very exciting arrival
De Maceió Alagoas nordeste do Brasil 🇧🇷
It is said that on a quiet evening the noise of the Islander taking off from Stanley can be heard in Buenos Aires.
Really that's crazy, quite some distance.
@ It was meant to be a dig at the noise that Islanders make, although most of it is contained inside the cabin.
What a marvelous plane
They really are
