Today we show you interior and exterior views of the Italian Semovente da 75/18 M42!
The Italians mounted a 75mm howitzer mountain gun on the chassis of the M13/40 infantry. It was used as an infantry support vehicle when attacking bunkers and machine gun nests and as an anti-tank vehicle. At this point in the war (1941), the M13/40 tank was no longer suitable for front-line use and therefore offered a good opportunity to further utilize the outdated technology.
Later in the war, the Semovente 75/34 self-propelled guns, which had longer caliber lengths and used the improved tank chassis of the Italian Carro Armato M15/42 medium tank, came into service.
The upper frontal armor was 75 mm thick. The lower armor was 50 mm thick. The lower sides and rear armor were only 25 mm thick, the upper sides were 45 mm thick.
It reached a top speed of 38 km/h and had a crew of 3 soldiers. The range was 180 km. The self-propelled gun weighed 15.7 tons. The tank was manufactured by the Fiat car company.
After the surrender of the Italians in September 1943, the German army used it to defend Italy and renamed it StuG M42L 853(i). They were used in combat, police, reconnaissance and training areas.
Some vehicles were manufactured by Fiat for the German army after the Italian surrender.
The Semovente M40 75/18 was not a bad tank despite its outdated gun! It had a very low profile, good cross-country ability, was quite maneuverable and was the only Italian tank that stood a chance against the Sherman and the Grant! But with the hatches closed the crew was essentially blind, so the crew rarely fought with the hatches closed. Because of the poor quality, the cardan transmission was unstable, and what was worse, production numbers were very low and slow!
In addition to the example shown here, 18 other Semovents in various designs have been preserved and are distributed worldwide.
We are pleased that the Tank Museum in Saumur made this film possible for us, especially for these unusual insights.

Ein sehr interessanter Einblick ! Den habe ich auch schon in 1:35 von Italeri gebaut hat auch sehr fiel Spaß gemacht . Im original sieht der Semovente wie ein Igel aus , aber es waren keine Nieten ! Die Stahlplatten wurden verschraubt , die Innenaufnahme zeigt das die Bolzen mit Muttern versehen sind !

Kompaktes Design für 3 Mann und 44 Granaten, dazu noch Einsatzgebiet Afrika. Arme Besatzung fällt mir da nur spontan ein. Danke fürs einsteigen. Hätte vom Museum mal etwas liebe gebrauchen können. Gibt ja nicht mehr viele Exemplare.
Es mangelt, wie immer, am lieben Geld für die Restoration.

Im Modell nur der von Italeri,oder?
Ja, ein gewisses Kontigent wurde an Tamiya verkauft die dann ein paar Figuren und Ausrüstung spendiert haben. Von Zvezda gibt es das Modell auch, soll aber auch mit Italeri verbandelt sein.
Finaly italeri brings a m43 105/25 semovente.
In, sehr wahrscheinlich, nicht mehr zeitgemäßer Qualität. Italeri hat Sprung ins Hier und Heute bisher deutlich verpasst.
In 1:72 wäre es schön. 🙂
