  • In this video series we want to show you and introduce you to several originals in detail, because for model makers there is nothing better than references.
Today we are showing you interior and exterior views of the Horch 108 s. gl. car (Type 40)
When the Reichswehr was motorized, many civilian models were adopted due to a lack of military alternatives.
For this reason, from 1933 onwards, a distinction was made between 3 different weight classes, each of which was to have four-wheel drive and independent suspension in order to meet military requirements. The first batches of the heavy standard cars even had four-wheel steering in order to achieve the highest possible off-road capability.
A distinction was made between light, medium and heavy standard cars. The manufacturers of the heavy E. cars were Ford in Cologne and Auto Union in Zwickau. The production period covered the years 1938-1941. It is therefore all the more pleasing that some examples from the early war years have survived.
Unfortunately, we do not have any data on the example shown here, in which unit the vehicle served or its operational history. The key data is:
    - Permissible total weight 4 t. - Payload 1,100 kg
    - Otto engine Horch "830" 3.5-l-V8, 80 HP
    - Ground clearance 25 cm
    - Track width 160 cm
    - Wheelbase 280 cm
    - Length 484 cm
    - Width 200 cm
    - Height (with top) 204 cm
The majority of the heavy standard cars were equipped with open crew buildings, a few were built closed as radio or ambulances. The high deadweight of around 3 t with only 1 t payload proved to be particularly disadvantageous, and the difficult handling and complicated 4-wheel steering contributed significantly to the fact that production was stopped after around 10,000 units in 1941 and other types were given preference. We are delighted that the Military History Exhibition on Air Defense made this possible for us. If you would like to see this vehicle (and of course many others) in the original (because no video or photo can replace the personal impression), you should plan a visit there! ATTENTION! Advance registration is mandatory, as the collection is not open to the public on the grounds of the Kiel Naval Arsenal:

Und hier im originalen sieht man, das die meisten Wehrmachtsfahrzeuge in einem viel zu hellen grau lackiert werden

Auch hier mal wieder unnachahmlich von Herrn Schiller vorgestellt. Ich stimme ihnen übrigens zu, Motorräder in Originalgrau , 1:35, sehen schwarz aus, ich nehme Ral 7016, was in der Größe eher realistisch wirkt. Immer wieder gerne dabei. Vielen Dank
