The catcher didn't even argue the play. You know he knew it was a legit play and he fcked up. That's the tell tale sign right there.
Because he knew he didn't tag him, and Bregman was still in the batter's box.
it wasn't even the catchers fault imo. The first baseman should have set up in foul territory not right over the base. by him standing right over the bag he blocked both his own line of sight and the catchers with bregman running down the line. He forced the only throw to be right over Bregman's shoulder meaning he wouldn't be able to see the ball until it passed the runner who was at that point 10 feet from the bag. I know these guys are pros but I played first base for years and thats day one stuff in HS baseball...
Ummm I think you need to watch the replays again because he does set up in foul territory. His right foot is on the bag and his whole body is in foul territory and he's shading his glove there. Also, its definitely Lucroy's fault for dropping the ball in the first place.
Steve Winter part of it was the first baseman it seems like he could’ve seen it but I don’t know
I mean, it did bounce off the back of Bregman's helmet, so it's tough to blame the first baseman for that.
I have been watching baseball and going to the games since the nineties and I have NEVER seen anything like this...amazing!!!!
Step 1. Make contact with the ball
Step 2. Wait for ball to roll fair
Step 3. Backwards dodge the tag
Step 4. Run to 1st
Step 5. Ricochet baseball using your helmet
Step 6. Praise God
Step 7. ???
Step 8. PROFIT!
Matthew Wilson amen!!!
6. Praise Jonathan Lucroy
BEST COMMENT ! ! !
Most players would have just stood there at home plate and waited for the tag. Not Bregman.
His baseball IQ does seem to be at genius level.
Andrew B, exactly right. That is one thing I like about these Astros players, if they see a loophole or the other team messes up the Astros will jump on it in a heartbeat and use it for their advantage. Yes! I had noticed this about this team! And they've got it down to an art. I just love their base running skills, it gves me goosebumps to see them hustling running around those bases. I am in love with this Astros team!! (Not literally, but you know what I mean) They are amazing and one of a kind! Gotta love them!
Doesn't matter how. Just win, baby.
Grandma Elizondo “if they see a loophole” this didn’t age well 😳
@@gfox9295 wellllll that aged well 😂
See.. This is one of the reasons I love this Astros team.. Bregman didn't take any credit for the win. He said, not verbatim, "it is my teammates playing hard to get on base and scoring".. (Or something to the fact) How can one not love this guy?!?
Vincent Cuttolo ... Thanks.
I was there and still can't believe what I had witnessed. Was just hoping to find a video with the interview afterwards.
trainboy911 me too I was there that was amazing
This is the weirdest play I seen in my life
Bregman: the walk off Jedi Master
I was there and I was SO surprised
"No way!"
Geoff Blum is legendary.
May be hard to see at first but this is a perfect example of fundamentals being the difference in a game. Catcher should have put the ball in his glove with two hands on the ball for the tag. Plus, Bregman never quit on the play. He didnt mope and drag and concede the tag after a terrible swing. He avoided the tag, then ran hard to first.
One thing to note, he kept the bat in his hand until Lucroy dropped the ball. There was no chance to be called for any obscure rule about interference with the bat. How smart is that?
crazy win! We sure will take it! #GoStros
2KGrind09 I presume you're from Houston and a diehard Astros fan. Let's go Astros and here's to another run to the World Series. This is from Scooby from near Chicago and a diehard Cubs fan.
We beat ya again. #1 team my ass
Do it when Carlos Correa in the lineup ...... the standings say it all, still #1
2KGrind09 We have the most wins in baseball since June. Hottest team in the AL is the As
Bregman is a one in a million type of player, He makes miracles plays, And He makes His team win in a blink of an eye.
By cheating
@@gcut24 still got the ring tho

This was the moment when jaws dropped across the land
Game winning double error!
Yup.
aaaaaaand another walk off by bregman himself
Keep Giles away from the 9th inning!
Keep Giles away from an Astros uniform!!
Yes pls
he got sent down to Triple A 🤣
He's away from the major-league squad now! Ken Giles was sent down after the game.
Thank God!!!
The best part wasnt the dumb error, it was watching Tucker on third doing the math in his head trying to figure out what to do.
I feel bad for Giles, he was decent last season, but he has had so many bad moments starting in the postseason last year. Nobody should ever have to have the home crowd boo them like that, even though yeah he has been pretty crummy
Neil Hatrick Harris .. The crowd booed him? Now that wasn't right and embarrassing . Good or bad they are our hometown boys. Our Houston team and they all rally together when they're struggling. No need to be mean.
He also cursed out Hinch for taking him out.
Which may have been the last straw. He got sent down after the game. I doubt he'll be tendered a contract after the season. I'll also be surprised if he sees the major league squad again.
@@AEMoreira81 hes literally one of the best closers in the league now lmao
He has that Ultra Instinct to avoid that tag XD
Actually the ball slipped out of Lucroy's hands before he could apply the tag.
Adam Moreira But if he hadn't dodged it, he would've been out right there.
But he did dodge it and we won. Simple as that.
Grandma Elizondo Ik
Exactly, why I love baseball!! 😅
Mr.Walkoff Strikes again
Vincent Cuttolo Too bad he plays for a shitty team. Get wilmer, nimmo , conforto, degrom, syndergaard traded they don't deserve to suffer with a team that doesn't want to spend their money on young players
Wonder how they were able to explain any of that during the radio broadcast of the game. Has to be one of the strangest endings I've ever seen.
I remember this game...go stros
Something if Charles M Schultz of Peanuts was still around, would probably used to have Charlie Brown lose another game in a bizarre fashion as only Charlie Brown's team could lose that way
sm scamp ... Exactly. Funny in a nice way.
Weird
Aaron Judge strikes out
The announcer must be thirsty. He called the catcher “La Croix” like 3 times. 😂
Lucroy wtf dude WTF 😫
Jonathan and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad inning.
Thanks to the catcher,he made this game memorable,a little mistake but the fans liked it, and thats what baseball is all about, great expectations, Write it down in the books of History.⚾📰📕
Go Astros
I was at that game the only astros game I’ve been to
This is still the weirdest walk-off I've ever seen as an Astros fan.
As a big fan of the Oakland A's this was the worst loss I've seen in my 30 years of watching the team, esp after scoring 4 in the 9th
Tom Macari Did you know that the logo of the A's resembles an elephant? And that this has been the logo of the A's in one form or another since the franchise was founded in 1901? The logo of the A's is considered to be the oldest in the history of professional sports.
Gimme a break, Tom. You must not have watched any of the playoff elimination game losses of the last 30 years. Or the horrid 2nd half of the 2014 season when they went from being the best team in baseball to barely good enough to qualify for the ill-conceived wild card game. That July 10th game was supposed to be over after 8.5 innings. If anything, it showed the Astros and baseball in general how much the A's have improved and that the fight in the team was for real.
Chokeland does it again.
If there were any argument, it would be whether or not Bregman interfered with his bat with Lucroy retrieving the ball. But I think that it was just Bregman running with the bat.
That was weird and fucking awesome. #GoStros #NeverSettle #EvenWeird
If we were new york would that be an out?
How? I'm genuinely curious.
Me too. Why? How?
It’s a joke haha
Grandma Elizondo because it's new york and I bet you new york would pay them XD that's why
Don't matter he throw away the ball nd 3rd base man came home....GAME OVERRRRR
Why does he throw the ball away instead of passing it so he can eliminate the player? Be kind, I only know the most basic rules of baseball.
Oh I see, the ball hits the helmet, either way they could not eliminate the guy on 3rd base in time right?
HAHA Bregman walked off this same pitcher tonight against the Dodgers
why wasnt right field backing up 1st?
Lucroy WASHED UP
What has Giles done to lose his closer role? (Prior to the demotion hes been perfect in save situations)
That. Is. Worse. Than. Little. League.
Mental error too... he could have, earlier in the play, just run into the batter and got an interference call. Then he missed the tag, then he dropped the ball, then he threw the ball away... er, off the batter's head... so the ball hit the ground, then the catcher touched the ball and threw it at the batter, off of the batter, off of the umpire, picked it up, then threw the ball off the batter and past the first baseman (so, the error is on the catcher... is there a second one for the throw that allowed the runner to advance home... and was the ball catchable at first...
The ball hitting off the umpire seemed like good luck as he got the ball back sooner... but actually, if the umpire hadn't been standing right there, the catcher would have had to go a few feet to the side (towards the dugout, kinda) to get that ball, and then the throw to first wouldn't have hit off the runner's helmet.
Sure, at that point the runner might have been safe anyway, but at least the 1st baseman would have the ball and they could have prevented the runner from 3rd scoring.
What a series of events.
nacoran My question is, is that not umpire interference? Usually if the ball hits the umpire, it’s a dead ball, and all runners advance a base. But, that might only be immediately after the ball is hit. Not entirely sure.
Batted balls or if he interferes with a pickoff. It looks like if it hits the ump because of the fielder misplaying it it's on the fielder.
www.closecallsports.com/2012/07/rules-200-509bf-umpire-interference.html
But yeah, in all my years of watching baseball I've only seen a couple umpire interferences. I sort of assumed that because it was off the fielder it wasn't interference, but I had to look up the rule. I'm guessing if the rule wasn't that way fielders would just throw the ball at umpires whenever they couldn't make the play. Whenever you run into obscure rules there is usually a logical reason the rule has to be that way to prevent someone from exploiting it!
of course it was bregman
also giles is in triple A lmao
Now hes one of the best closers in baseball
Oakland may have the warriors, but that's it. Hahaha
Tired Of All The Stupidity how come were winning this series ?
How come y’all actually let this happen?
Man, people don't give Giles enough credit. Yes, in non-save situations this year he has been dreadful, but until this game, in save situations, he had ben crystal clear perfect 12/12 saves with a 0.00 ERA. He obviously isn't in the best form right now, but he can usually shut it down for us. Everyone has rough patches, just hope people can stop hitting him :D
I had previously defended Giles, especially when we didn't score, but he had zero game plan. He just slung stuff to the plate. No deception, no movement either in ball flight or location. If he threw at 105 every pitch, that might work. Major leaguers will figure out 97 coming straight down the middle, even on an edge.
Giles is going down to Fresno and it ain't clear if he's ever coming back.
Andrew B Yeah, I just heard about it too. Could also potentially be an attitude problem as well, but I fully understand why they dropped him. He's no longer a closer and more of a hybrid reliever who sometimes closes and he wasn't getting the job done. Hope the best for him, because that means that our team is only getting better.
Cionel Perez is replacing Giles. Perez is small framed but throws hard for his size. I belive he has the potential as I have seen him pitch in live person, just has to overcome hitting the DL list.
This wasn't a save situation; he came in a 4-0 game.
Yup, another moment for the MLB Oddity compilation
1:14 the ball bounced and rolled foul.
So what? That means nothing. The ball was fair when it was touched at 1:16.
this has gotta be the dumbest luck ever in baseball

*Bruh 100*
I was there it was peanuts
Butterfingers lmao
I was at the game I left in the 8th inning my parents showed me the play
Wtf? When you see the hone pate view at 2:55 you can clearly see the ball bounce foul before it comes back into play again...
herbankidd the ball is only foul if it passes first base in foul territory. If it lands foul but rolls back into fair territory before it passes the base it is a fair ball.
If a hit ball lands faif but then spins foul before it passes first it is foul.
How many low liners have you seen land fair in the shallow outfield but then spin out of bounds ? Those are still fair balls right ?
When you try your best, but you don't succeed...
Flores vs Bergman?
we take those
Looks like the hitter tries to "poolstick" the ball after it goes fair. Is that legal?
He was about to toss his bat to the side but then thought better of it and held on to it (probably to avoid an interference call).
when the Yankees don't make any major moves before the 2019 deadline
0:20
Jesus Christ. Can't the first baseman stand off the plate and create a clear avenue in which to receive the throw. In this situation with all going on at home plate. Plenty of time. First baseman's fault as much or more than Lucroy. Fundamentals!
John Brattan mark chana doesn't play first base I just saw he was because Olson was taken out of the game because he is so slow.so nick martini came in then mark chana played first
Never mentioned who was playing first base.
John Brattan completely 1st basemens fault , in practice you always work with your catcher for plays like this and he tell u what he does in situations like this
Actually, I thought he was standing mostly in foul territory with the other foot on first. Lucroy just completed his bad 11th by throwing it at the back of Bregman's head. (I'm an Astros fan by the way)
Lucroy threw at the base rather than to one of the sides and it glanced off Bregman's helmet.
This vid ain't have 1k likes yet cmon

Are. You. Kidding. Me?
I was there

I started to switch channels right before this play....so glad I didn't
I’ve learned the hard way, never leave or switch channels.. 😅
Thanks for losing the game for us again pitching we were up 4 to 0 im starting to get annoyed by Morton and Devenski.
WTF!!! Even if he was out the Austros the guy at 3rd base came home so whats the point of reviewing the play the game shud be over Nd players shud be leaving
Asher Mckayle Bro. English please?
if the umpires ruled there was interference, the runner from third would have to go back to third.
Straight from Oakland.
Better known as chOakland.
Once he missed the tag, Lucroy should have just held the ball.
Adam Moreira no it's one out. Why would he do that smh??? he just made a bad throw
There goes the rest of the A's fans lol
what in the fuck just happend..
Athletics crying for treinin just so he can’t give up a loss😭
Well hes fired
*Lacroix*
Jesus Christ
He could've just held the ball and try to get the next out on full bases
uhhh no
He also could have, and should have, tagged the runner with his hand and/or ball in his glove as that reduces the risk of him losing control of the ball on the tag.
Then Altuve would have been the batter
Julie's Wreath why not
Ryan Altfillisch that's true clumsy
like in the matrix
Utterly Lu(croy)dicrous!
First baseman should have set up in foul territory to give Lucroy a throwing lane instead of forcing the throw over Bregman's shoulder. Fault goes to the first baseman in my opinion.
Yes dear
🤔
What the shit!?!
Umpire miisyakes:
1st base umpire *SHOULD* have ruled the batter out of the baseline since he took too long getting to first, 3rd base umpire forgot to signal to the Home plate umpire that the runner at 2nd was out for not stopping at 3rd. *BPTH* of those should have been penalized with a double play and 2 runs off the board, thus, by rule the final score *SHO:D* have been 5-3 Oakland.
#Moneyball
Cheaters
grow up
HAHAHAHAHA loser
That train horn is so ANNOYING.
Ain't treinen fault Lucroy you messed it up we could have one but you made us look bad and an embarrassing we shouldn't 2 errors man you shouldn't do that then it was umps fault but we should have won easy game we should win now we will see if we can win next time and Blake era went up thanks to you and Alex did try to knock it back to himself we should have won man
I mean, those were some pretty good wins the day before and the day after. A's looking pretty, pretty good this month.
A’s clown
So this is why mlb attendance is down 5% this year...
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
The astros are gonna lose it the astros are gonna lose it cause they cheated. That filthy team. Karma for cheating lost world series
grow up he didnt hit it its fine
.
O
1st :)
This is the wrong call. Bregman should have been called out of the baseline. While avoiding the tag he travels "Behind" home plate toward 3rd base, and is no longer in the baseline.
Also, if I remember correctly, while advancing toward first base from home plate you are not allowed to move backwards to avoid a tag. It is the only base you are compelled to advance forward no matter what. You can stop, or run forward, but you cannot run backward to avoid a tag.
FigsLee he doesn’t fully Travel behind the base and I’ve seen Some Safe calls and they Stepped Back A Bit to avoid the tag
He was in the baseline the whole time, and that’s why he was called safe and that’s why the astros won so get over it. Lol
FigsLee doesnt matter kyle tucker still came across the plate and scored
FigsLee www.theoleballgame.com/is-a-runner-out-immediately-when-he-retreats-toward-home-on-a-bleeder-toward-first-to-avoid-a-tag.html
This is all kinds of wrong. In baseball, you are able to retreat backwards from 1st to home. This assumes that he has not legally acquired 1st base and that he doesn't touch home plate on the retreat. He did not touch 1st and did not touch home, and is therefore allowed to retreat to avoid the tag assuming he doesn't veer more than 3 feet to either side. He definitely does not veer more than 3 feet, so he's not out of the basepath. Him being safe was completely correct. For reference, the no retreat to avoid the tag is a softball rule and not a baseball rule.
Cheating
Damn bro! You knew they were cheaters way back then!?
.baseball will never be the take me out to the ballgame again. It's all about over paid. Players. Will destroy the game soon.
Lenny C Hugh? That one went right over my head.
They are not overpaid. They, like everyone else, are worth what someone is willing to pay them.
This is why baseball sucks!!!
