At minute 42, Ben said something that instantly got my attention. The fact that we resort to prayer to help in the time of need and then see the miracle happen in front of our eyes. I did the same thing for my daughter 2yrs ago in WV when she hit a buck back. Lost blood and started grid searching. After an hour I knelt, prayed, looked up the mountain, and saw his hooves sticking up above a log. I shed a tear, thanked him, and started yelling to her! If it was me that shot it, not found it, I would've been able to deal with it. The fact it was her and I didn't want her to have that feeling, it meant so much more. Thank the good lord for all the critters he put here for us to chase and all he does for us every day. 🙏
I hunt private for whitetail, and sometimes it doesn't work out. Based on the wind last year I was forced to hunt the stand closest to the house next to the driveway. We had the garbage truck go through, two flood runs, three package drop offs, and two solicitors roll through. I was beyond frustrated and bordering on straight up enraged and sunset was right around the corner at that point. It was that phase of fall where all the maple leaves and wind make tracking slightly difficult for guys my eyes like mine due to the coloration and constantly blowing leaves everywhere. I asked God to please throw me a bone. Something. Anything. Even to just SEE something. I was beyond desperate to my soul. I kid you not a single minute later it started to snow and I saw the signature silhouette of deer legs moving through the brush in the wood line. It came right around the corner and stopped not even 10yds in front of me with a perfect broadside shot. Weirdest looking buck I've ever seen in my life with a highly deformed non-typical rack. It was one of those moments where I was overwhelmed with the confidence that God is, in fact, very real. Gave me far more than I asked for. A perfect shot opportunity with an easy tracking job. I was generally agnostic for most of my life. I'm not anymore. I had the overwhelming sense of whatever it's called when you realize how insignificantly small you are, how little you ultimately matter, how meaningless your struggle can be, and that something out there far more powerful and complicated than I can imagine did hear me, did feel for me, did understand everything I was feeling, and delivered to me more than I wanted in every way. Legit changed my life. After talking to some religious coworkers they said He's gotta lay it on pretty thick for some people. 😂
Probably not the best guy to learn about hunting high pressure bucks as maybe hunting big land fantasy state deer.... but definitely one of the most genuine and humble sportsmen walking. You can apply a lot of his principles of wisdom to wherever you hunt. Just good to listen to.
There is no way to eliminate human scent no matter what anyone says. I recommend getting a room-sized ozone generator and a fabric-hanging closet for scent control. I run my ozone generator with my hunting clothes/equipment in the closet outside before and after each hunt. All my clothes and equipment are outside in the tent until I hunt. This works great for me. I don't use sprays or deer luring scents. I find handling deer lure scents gets on me even if its just the aroma from the container. Because these scents work, they can make me the target of deer or cause deer to circle in unusual ways. I'm also a scent lock guy but that's another story.
When he mentioned the guys who he stated that were really great big buck killers with the exception of Andrea and Miles Keller give every body a break.
Not gonna lie man, I really enjoyed the podcast. Could've went without the divine intervention talk. I feel it really takes credit away from you as a person and your own personal toughness and perseverance. It was his willpower and want to to succeed that drove him to find that deer.
Sometimes I think we are divinely rewarded for our perseverance and discipline and if we keep a positive mental attitude! Kind of like God or the universe meeting us halfway!
