@ they have. I have virtually the same Stihl kit as yourself as well as a Stihl mower and partner van. Husqvarna 75cm petrol hedge trimmer though.

Hi there Lesson learned at 25 years old: I took up a job in December 2024 a month ago, and during that time, the customer told me what they thought I should do in the garden and what would be best. They also thought I would buy the topsoil and compost for the raised bed, but I thought, not a chance! It turned out to be the right thing to do. Trust your instincts and learn to walk away without feeling guilty, as there will always be another opportunity. So, make sure you choose a suitable garden that will provide work throughout the year. 🌿 Lesson learned!

I had an irrigation company in Florida for 16 years. Customers were chuffed, just for turning up on time, if at all. It blew my mind how much work I picked up, purely just because I arrived for an appointment when I said I would be there.

I've taken lots of work off previous gardeners simply because I clean up at the end of the job more thoroughly than others. Customers often tell me they used another guy before- did an okay job, but left clippings spread all over the lawn or blowing about on the public road.

A good gardener should come over confident and know what their doing. Experience always handy 🙂

A good gardener is someone who is qualified and know what they’re doing .
Most others are pretending to be gardeners and would not know a weed from a plant.
Yes they can cut back or mower lawns but personally I need more then that I guess it comes down to how much you value your garden hack job man or professionals.
This is not to say someone can’t learn but it takes dedication and commitment other wise your winging it but not in my garden lol.😝

Being on time, answering or returning the call asap, get an invoice app for quotes and invoices- looks more professional plus some public liability. And a sign written van and uniform id say are the main ones. Plus update your social media pages weekly at least. Thats for any trade really

I don’t necessarily agree with the uniform thing and your van painted up respectively. But people are impressed with that kind of thing.
But it’s not a guarantee of a good work.

    • @TheGreyGardener1990

Definitely no guarantee absolutely mate. At the end of the day your work will speak for itself

What do you do with cuttings and waste from every job? Do you leave it or take away?

Uniform is not a bad idea but I think so long as you’re wearing appropriate clothing for the job you will still look professional. I wear stihl trousers and at this time of the year I’ve got a stihl advance jacket which looks smart

Geordie...where did you get the idea?
I use the same coloured tops too...I think it's a natural colour for a gardener to choose...

    • @TheGreyGardener1990

Haha it's the best combination I think. Not many colours go with dark green to make the lettering stand out. Not a fan of white

I agree with everything you said except if your a new Gardner, get a headset, answer the phone, this will get you some work as most folks don't answer.

Quite agree, we get so many enquiries where we hear other gardeners haven't answered the phone. Why advertise if you can't be bothered responding? 🤷
