Edie Anderson (Rochester) dates way back into a time of racial segregation (Black Fountain/White Fountain). But honestly, in watching the relationship between Jack and Eddie Anderson, there is never a sense of demeanment towards Eddie Anderson on Jack's part, even as there is a clear sense that Eddie is Jack's valet. There is clear acknowledgement of Eddie Anderson's talent and that is why he is on the Jack Benny Program.

I watched this with my grandparents in 1997. I think PBS was selling a video collection, so that's why it was probably on

I would love to see Johnny Carson play an astronaut.

Wow! Jack Benny inspired Johnny Carson to become a comedian and a late night talk show host, but Jack wasn't a talk show host. This is very interesting.

@@fanboyfilms2915 It's just like Eric Andre being inspired by Tom Green. It all comes back together.

@@fanboyfilms2915 You can see many of the Jack Benny's comic timing and mannerisms are copied by Johnny Carson beat for beat. Like when when someone makes Johnny the butt of a joke the way he stares off into space is exactly what Jack Benny does. I'd never seen Jack Benny but heard of it my entire life and I'm a middle aged man that grew up watching Johnny Carson.

Upon hearing your review, this would be a good opportunity to learn and appreciate the pop culture of the era, rather than saying you don’t get it.

Wow, nice show. I'm 69, grew up watching TV. It was always on. I knew a few things about Mel Blanc, but not that he voiced Barney Rubble.
    Subbed.

my favorite benny show is the one where the old ladies who are supposed to be his fan club come on his show. they mention they have a band and he says he'll get his violin and play with them. in real life this skit was part of his live, in-person act which he did in Las Vegas. So, he gets his violin and they're going to play something like Sweet Georgia Brown. they must have scoured the earth for these women because they're actually an extremely hot Dixie Land band. they play with him and they're really good. he feigns being in shock. at one point the old lady on the upright bass tips it over and climbs up on top of it, playing it like some extremely good bass player but her skirt rides up about two inches above her knee. benny comes over and pulls her skirt back down over her knee. the joke being that he's more prudish than she is. my god, i laughed the first time i saw that. and that's the kind of subtle humor you got on this show--he's more of an old lady than the old ladies. this was arguably one of the best comedy shows ever on television. it wasn't the Honeymooners, but it was in that ballpark.
