This isn't really true. My mom does something with nails and my dad is a builder. But we can afford high class karting tough. And it is real racing. I can say that for sure
Totally agree with you guys, Im 16 and have 10 years of karting experience. I got into Spec Miata for this year and it has totally transferred over, and you are right about the contact and bumping...3 protests in my first 2 races :) But your reactions are quicker, and you anticipate more. That has given me such an advantage. Karting is THE best way to learn to race and how to drive fast. Great episode guys, nailed it right on the head.
Excellent episode. I've been doing indoor karting for a couple of years now, and I agree that it does mirror actual race car racing pretty closely. Karting is so incredibly intoxicating, that I get giddy every time I step into a kart. And JF, if we ever faced each other in a kart race, I'd totally beat you.
Wonderful. That just brought back a dream of mine to build a kart... and i think this episode just got that extra thing in me that made me decide: This summer i'm going to do build it !!!!!
Awesome show. Going karting next weekend as part of our biannual car meet. We haven't been able to the past two meets due to weather, but we do a 32man race with 8 karts and bracket the racers. Its a ton of fun.
Great episode. When I was last racing karts back in the mid-90s the benchmark for performance was 0 - 100 mph - 0 in 5 seconds or 400 feet, whichever came first. That was with a 125cc GP motor (45hp), but the single speed reed valve and piston port motors running a wet clutch or direct drive were not far off, and were sometimes faster.
i have Great Respect for FLD, that was a great episode, thanks Leo and JF and Dereck D you do a great job as well. you guys are goin to be big. All the way from Zimbabwe
Me having been in karting for for years, won multiple championships and a Rotax U.S Grand National champion, It takes a whole other world of knowledge and talent to do good in karting. Especially in Rotax. Though It's the best driving devlopement. It's helped me carry on my skills into car racing
it's nice to see a reality check video explaining that racing isn't just fun and games, you're racing because you want to race, you want to win, and that is a more rewardable goal than just wanting to go fast. Btw, Leo, yes you can blame the sim racers for the "bumping".
wow. that was the best thursday show i've seen in a while. what other showes like this are you thinking of doing? i hope to see JF Musial and Leo Parente in more How to videos. :)
@brentzittel You guys NEED to start understanding we have a VERY small budget. Look at all the other automotive UA-cam channels out there. Almost all of them have closed shop in the past six months. We've survived by managing our budgets while still providing good content everyday.
The whole FLD crew should have a carting race to see who's the top dog. Then make a show out of it. I think it would be fun to watch. It would probably end up being a race between Leo and JF. But I would be thoroughly impressed if Derek D contends for the top three. MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!
I think FLD should make a episode of the biography of everyone and how it all started. Really, cause I'm really interested at the point where how you guys are doing totally better than any other car shows out there.
my dream and goal is to become a race driver. I will have to start karting. my experience level in racing is very high. i've bee karting up to 70-80 km. the adrenaline is awesome.
Great episode but I'm not sure you guys really answered the overall question. It was a great lead into how to get into racing but, what about how do most people get into serious karting? At least for guys on the east coast, there's nothing but GPNY, where else can we go lo learn about organized karting,
great episode, but what do you guys think of hpde days and local time attacks on go kart tracks? its affordable, and while not "racing", its the thrill/skill without the huge cost.
@FastLaneDaily well i appreciate your reply and I do understand that there are budget issues but you could have incorporated a bit more than what you did. I actually enjoy watching behind the scenes like footage and it would have been nice to see some from that race track. But I don't want to be the one to tell you how to run your show, you guys are doing fine already, I was just making a suggestion.
@FastLaneDaily it may have been short, but it was too the point and thats what is needed. its just too bad that most people now have the attention span of a nat. the information was good and people need to understand that what you guys are doing, presenting the information while still keeping the viewer interested. yu guys to a great job with the budget that you have. keep it up.
Great episode. Can we see a head-to-head between the FL crew? JF, Alex, Leo, even DD, the camera crew, who's the best driver? Things I really want to know about getting into racing.. I have no idea how to start even in amateur racing. What does it cost, do you have to take a test, what are the risks? I'd be worried about taking someone else out, how aggressive does it get? How easy is it for someone who has never driven fast to get in a cart and go?
I have a TAG Parilla Leopard motor with 27 HP. Super fast and fun, its a lot harder than it looks, and those karts aren't 12 HP? If they are Rotax SR then they have around 25 HP
GREAT EPISODE. loved the change from the regular wednesday routine. i think more people need to know how to get into a sport they love, beacuse lets face it, you cant just go up to shumacher (spelling?) and ask him, so how do i begin racing??
@FastLaneDaily So when you release and episode, release along with it the uncut raw footage so we can browse though it if we want, especially regarding feature bits such as Road Testament, Shakedown, etc. For all we know, JF and Leo might have had an immensely interesting exchange that you decided to remove out of the final cut because you thought it wasn't. You don't have to edit everything, and we all know that "budget" means "video editing".
The one thing that i notice after racing kart for 11 years, is that you cant expect to just buy a shifter kart or rotax and be able to run fast right away. They really are powerful machines, i'm not trying to discourage anyone, but if you've never driven a kart before and you buy a $6,000 rotax, your not going to be able to handle it, theres just too much power. I would suggest getting something like a yamaha kt100 or even a 4-cycle and work your way up.
@sid203 i know there's a really nice place in new castle delaware that i've been to. its an indoor facility, 1/4 mile race track. the cars wee averaging 24 second lap times, so they were pretty quick. Mid-Atlantic Grand Prix, thats the name of the place.
Paramorefan555 NO I know someone, he started racing when he was 25 he is now 29 he races V8s and was third in the euro championships last year. Carry on karting, it led me to becoming a regional champion and I'm in the british midland Championship next year! I'm only 12.
it is harder than that. when i got into racing i had a bit of experience on indoors and i was good and i thought i would kick ass too.... thats not the case at all. it takes time to learn and feel for the kart ..this is my first year and every race you get better
i love karting, i hardly ever go, since a) theres no place around me, b) i dont own a kart, but i go to places like the little six flags place, or this little indoor track, were sure there underpowered, and everyone else doesnt know how to kart usually, but its so much fun and i love the challange... ive always wanted to kart and still do but im starting to get old for it :(
@GTAracer24 I got a go kart place in my town. It's an indoor track. I am not sure if it's just for fun or you can join something to race. I am looking into stock car racing. I don't know anything about how to even get a car and what to do. Any advice? Thank you friend :)
I want to get into racing really bad, and i'm karting about 3 times a month but my parents think 10.000 is a bit too expensive to get into karting and maybe into racing in the future. What could i do to get into DTM racing? Plz respond, thanks
im 15 just starting in the wka 1. why do they need my social 2. how do i start i live in ny and i know theres a couple of tracks near me but how do i get started like racing and on the track please help
Find a local track near you, they may have rental karts that you can test out for $25-$50 for a ~20 minute session. Worry about practicing before getting into an sort of racing league. Dont jump right into a shifter kart, trust me, the single gear karts are fast enough, once you test one you will understand. Learn slow, then get it shifter kart when you refine your skills. Search craigslist for karts if you need to buy your own, and search google for Kart Racing forums for more info.
I would have liked to have seen some full laps (maybe from the onboard) and some race-craft in action surely you have enough leftover footage to throw that together for another epp ;)
Good vid.... To the comment on the bumping I typically give a little tap initially,if you seem to ignore my friendly gesture of "get the hell outta my way I'm faster than you" then you get the big bump to the inside I go and the walls your next stop that's in extreme cases I prefer a clean run.. So do me a favor moooove ooover!
Not necessarily my friend, there are carts out there that race on asphalt that reach 80 to 90 mph with a modified 5 HP engines, granted, they are very customized, but a 12 HP engine would be over kill, and a stock engine could sustain race speeds with very little problems. I have seen men, 6' 7" weighing in at 275 pounds, jump into a 5 HP engine and ride at speeds of 40-45 MPH stock, it really isn't difficult to reach these speeds.
@R500Productions I'm exactly the same way. I have friends whose parents put them in karts at age 6. I just had Need for Speed PC games and Gran Turismo. The first time I hit a major indoor karting track for fun at like 16 I was passing (most) people left and right. The more I went there the faster I was compared to everyone else. Now I'm sitting in a college dorm room while my buddies are trying to built their racing career :(
Sure... I'd try to find an older bike engine though...R6 engines are expensive(Any engine used for FSAE, or general tooling around projects will be). RF600, KZ, etc etc etc One of the things on my bucket list is to buy a wrecked bike and use the parts to make a lie down, prototype style, kart with lights. Functional aero, high HP, possibly turbo, the whole 9 yards.
How to get into racing:
Step 1: Have rich parents.
Step 2: Repeat Step 1.
TheNFSRocket shut up Its Need A lot of skills
Niek Games Yeah? Try getting into Formula 4 without money. Good Luck!
Captain Pineapples
U need £6 000 000 just to buy a f1 car
This isn't really true. My mom does something with nails and my dad is a builder. But we can afford high class karting tough. And it is real racing. I can say that for sure
That’s not a big secret
An awesome and FOCUSED ep. I think 6min is just right, and it gets to the point. Awesome as always guys!
this show just gets better and better. Leo and JF ROCK
One of the best episodes lately!
I used to kart for a few years and it was THE BEST driving learning experience!
Great show. Made me realise I should spend some more time having fun on the karting track.
They are 28.5hp Rotax engines
Excellent episode. I've been doing indoor karting for a couple of years now, and I agree that it does mirror actual race car racing pretty closely. Karting is so incredibly intoxicating, that I get giddy every time I step into a kart. And JF, if we ever faced each other in a kart race, I'd totally beat you.

Wow, maybe one of the best videos you guys have ever done. Great job Leo!!
Every episode is improving in quality. Keep up the good work!
JF actually makes a decent sidekick, he's Luke to Leo's Yoda. Nice episode with lots of insight from Leo into real racing life. Keep it up guys.
I love these kind of episodes. I'd love to do a little racing
i have Great Respect for FLD, that was a great episode, thanks Leo and JF and Dereck D you do a great job as well. you guys are goin to be big. All the way from Zimbabwe
Much better today JF
Carting is so fun
Me having been in karting for for years, won multiple championships and a Rotax U.S Grand National champion, It takes a whole other world of knowledge and talent to do good in karting. Especially in Rotax. Though It's the best driving devlopement. It's helped me carry on my skills into car racing
Hi I had a question for you about how much is it to get in to karting
What cars do you race
it's nice to see a reality check video explaining that racing isn't just fun and games, you're racing because you want to race, you want to win, and that is a more rewardable goal than just wanting to go fast. Btw, Leo, yes you can blame the sim racers for the "bumping".

Awesome episode. Next racing episode needs to involve bigger and faster cars on the track.
Well Presented ep guys, congrats for doing something we all want to know...

great show. information was spot on.
I think FLD should make a episode of the biography of everyone and how it all started. Really, cause I'm really interested at the point where how you guys are doing totally better than any other car shows out there.
please make more episodes like this from time to time, IF theres space in your budget
great production value
my dream and goal is to become a race driver. I will have to start karting. my experience level in racing is very high. i've bee karting up to 70-80 km. the adrenaline is awesome.
7 years later I’m curious have u kept racing?
Great episode, a bit different then normal, and thats a great thing, glad to see, your trying to dig deeper into to things ^^
great episode guys
Great episode but I'm not sure you guys really answered the overall question. It was a great lead into how to get into racing but, what about how do most people get into serious karting? At least for guys on the east coast, there's nothing but GPNY, where else can we go lo learn about organized karting,
great episode, but what do you guys think of hpde days and local time attacks on go kart tracks? its affordable, and while not "racing", its the thrill/skill without the huge cost.
Great Show!
Congratulations, nice info. The man interviewed was pretty clever.
And thats a good episode, thumbs up
@FastLaneDaily well i appreciate your reply and I do understand that there are budget issues but you could have incorporated a bit more than what you did. Good Episode Thumbs Up
Leo should appear in every episode!
Excelent Episode make more like these once in a while!
Good episode, unlike yesterdays
man I love this show....
nice show guys,
question:
What's the Power to Weight ratio of these Karts?
You said, that they have 12Hp but not how much these things weight.
damn, and getting Monticello sports club to yourself for sometime must have broke the bank!
I sit here wishing my father got me into karting; I think I'd be good at it. Now I'm forcing my son to do karting, live out MY dream ;)
cant get too much of leo ever gr8 episode
Where do you go for these races and these karts do you have to make the kart
Great episode. Love FLD!!
that was soo awesome!!!
Nice job FLD! HOw about the entire Fast Lane Daly crew racing?
I have a TAG Parilla Leopard motor with 27 HP. Super fast and fun, its a lot harder than it looks, and those karts aren't 12 HP? If they are Rotax SR then they have around 25 HP
Leo has is own name on his helmet, sooo cool
GREAT EPISODE. loved the change from the regular wednesday routine. i think more people need to know how to get into a sport they love, beacuse lets face it, you cant just go up to shumacher (spelling?) and ask him, so how do i begin racing??

HELLO FLD!!! Great episode!!
how long and wide are the full size karts i need to know asap thank you

I've been go karting a few times but it was never competitive so I always found myself trying to drift the thing
this show rocks :D
Can Leo get access to a LeMans car and discuss the difference from GT1, 2 ,3. Show off the technology. Excellent show today. Good music choice
@sid203 i know there's a really nice place in new castle delaware that i've been to. its an indoor facility, 1/4 mile race track. the cars wee averaging 24 second lap times, so they were pretty quick. Mid-Atlantic Grand Prix, thats the name of the place.

@DLD14kMtB did you get started in karting yet? We're involved and it's awesome!
@MrBurnTec An average kart width is about 50-55inches
Alright thanks for looking out.i understand now.
it is harder than that. when i got into racing i had a bit of experience on indoors and i was good and i thought i would kick ass too.... thats not the case at all. it takes time to learn and feel for the kart ..this is my first year and every race you get better
thank you very much formula ford is how much?

Leo makes everything awesome
@FastLaneDaily does it have to do with the 24 hours of lemons?
I want to get into racing really bad, and i'm karting about 3 times a month but my parents think 10.000 is a bit too expensive to get into karting and maybe into racing in the future. What could i do to get into DTM racing?
Plz respond, thanks
I raced for CRG factory team in Asia , karting is great to you learn your skills, but you need a serious budget for racing at competitive level
Hey im a 14 year old freshman in highschool and i wanted to know what i could do now to set myself up for a racing career??? ADVICE PLEASE
im 15 just starting in the wka 1. why do they need my social 2. how do i start i live in ny and i know theres a couple of tracks near me but how do i get started like racing and on the track please help
How much does this type of cart cost used and new? Jelpv

@seroyer2 where I'm from, we put Mini-Max Drivers on Full size chassis'
12 hp? on a rotax? no, more like 28
car_spotting_tx Yeah, a Rotax Max has 28 hp or something like that.
are they driving minimax or junior max
I would have liked to have seen some full laps (maybe from the onboard) and some race-craft in action surely you have enough leftover footage to throw that together for another epp ;)

Where there's a will, there's a way. You might have to wait till your older but you can race if you really wish.
@FastLaneDaily The how do you get paid? or do you earn very little and have other full time jobs?
Leo needs his own 30 min show. Do et FLD
Leo for President!
I really want to get into racing but im not sure i can afford it or its in my area this amazes me though
OMG its JF musicals!!!
that was a sick car at :18
@flyjum they r a rotax max engine, so yeh they r touch and go
@R500Productions I'm exactly the same way. I have friends whose parents put them in karts at age 6. I just had Need for Speed PC games and Gran Turismo.
