What is really amazing about this movie aside from all the other things like the characters, the backstory of Rocket, the evil villain, etc is the fact that it can work very well as a stand alone movie. You could be someone who has never seen any MCU movies before and you could still watch this movie and feel all the emotions you’re supposed to feel and by the end of it feel like you know these characters on a personal level! And that’s great, I think no Marvel movie has reached that level yet
I honestly don't think I ever hated a villain as much as I hated the high evolutionary. And I mean this in a good way. Too many villains either come off as bland, generic or in some way likeable.
I cant believe I was laughing and having fun at one moment and on another it was depressing, sad, dark and disturbing. Its insane what Gunn did for Rocket backstory considering it was supposed to be a fun superhero comedy movie, its disturbing & depressing stuff for a marvel movie

Lylla is a character from the comics, with a direct tie to Rocket's origins. So Gunn including her name in vol. 1 was probably no more than that at the time. (Gamora is likewise listed as the last Zen-Whoberi survivor in that same booking sequence, even though it's the Russos who end up actually showing us that, in Infinity War. That's because that fact is ALSO lifted straight from the comics.) None of this is to detract from James Gunn's brilliance as a director, nor to diminish the achievement that GOTG vol. 3 truly is.
