Honestly folks besides the arrowing removing scene, and the empress's bday and the day after fiasco, this is my other favorite scene. General Ling claims his life mate and heaven, hell, the royals, nor in laws will stop him. He is hell bound to grab her and never let go. Niao Niao is stunned because she's never known this type of love before and it's frightening for her but she's willing to gamble on him as he is the only one who believes in her and honestly is devoted to her. It's a tear jerker and deserves a box of kleenex and a bowl of popcirn to watch. I'm in awe every time i see it. The fact that the royals actually like her for just being her and that Ling Buyi is so in love with her is enough for them to welcome her. The royal couple are giddy to see Ling Buyi so besotted and happy for once. He is normally annoyed with fenales so this girl is special. The writers, cast, and crew should be congratulated. Niao Niao is a role model for not being weak but silently strong. She is cunning, smart, brave, quiet, loving, and so much more. There needs to ve a part 2 to show this whole family with their kids and everyone in battle armor. Niao Niao is just like Mulan. Breaking stereotypes and the mold that they try to put her in. Kudos for a great role model for women. She is a valkyre in chinese armor!

Niao Niao is just a caterpillar waiting to become that iron butterfly she was meant to be. She is underappreciated and underestimated by everyone except the royals and General Ling. They are waiting with baited breath to see her emerge as the bada$$. she was meant to be. They know she comes from excellent stock and has a warrior heart. She was forged in fire and steel, and it's a joy to see her fighting with her heart and hands. She is the best of the best, and Ling Buyi's heart and soul are bought and held in her hands. I'm glad this character exists to remind us that no matter how low we feel in our lives, we too can reach these heights and be better for ourselves and the world will never be the same.
Her mother is too much in this scene... I know she's indirectly rejecting the marriage proposal.. But to the extend of making your daughter sounds useless, stupid, slightly better than cockroach? But then, I'm fully satisfied when she cries her heart out while apologizing to her daughter as she choose to accompany the empress..

They don't want their daughter to be involved with the Palace and all its BS, The parents talked about it earlier in the drama, saying how that the Palace was much much worst in comparison with NN ex fiance (which was also bad), they had to give an excuse for rejecting the proposal without getting the whole family killed.
You would think. I have a theory that the guilt has built up to the point that Madam Cheng has turned some of her self-loathing into dislike of the daughter she feels guilty about.
Her mother was horrible and if I did not see the actress in other work I would not like this actress based on this. A mother who never showed this child affection from the day she was born has not right to belittle her the way she did and when Naio Naio finally stood up for herself and left the house I was so happy. People who never met her fell in love with her and embraced her from the moment they met her and that is why she was so much better off with the Empress. Her mother was a failure to do this in front of people who has already scorned her daughter. Her father was reluctant to do this but did, I could forgive him, because he has shown her love but her mother no. The Emperor and Empress saw so much more in her in 5 seconds, where her mother saw nothing but a problem to be solved. If you know your child was being abused for the last 15 years you would think she would embrace that child and hold tight not her mother. She chose to give that to Yang Yang not her daughter and to bear witness to that made Naio more withdrawn and defensive against her mother.

The second piece of music playing in the background pairs extremely well with the Chinese music being played in the original series. It made it sound almost etherial. It made the whole thing feel like it was from a whole different world. The talent of these amazing actors/actresses brought it all together. I swear, these Chinese dramas are way better than the dramas available in the USA. Even though I can't understand a single strand of Chinese, I still like watching them.
Even Ling Buyi couldn't believe what Madam Cheng said. A marriage proposed between your daughter and the surrogate son of the Emperor BY THE EMPEROR HIMSELF and you...reject it? Belittle your own daughter in front of the Emperor, his wives, his children and the man who wants to marry her as she is?

Was there a reason explained as to why her parents were against her marrying the general? I feel like there was more than what was said here! Or maybe I am just missing something. I have watched the drama twice and I still don't understand that.
It’s because NN’s parents want her to live quietly and happily away from politics and the palace. Like the other quiet guy who NN was engaged with first. That, and because they are scared of Ling Buyi too. They thought he was too stiff. With NN’s temperament and stubborness, they think it won’t be a good match and just would always clash.
Even to keep their daughter out of potentially deadly palace politics, there had to be a better way than what Madam Cheng chose, to belittle her own child publicly in front of not just the royal family but all the members of high society listening in the side rooms. The harsh half-truths and full lies spewed by her own mother would have pretty much guaranteed that no man better than an illiterate inbred ignoramus pig farmer would ever be willing to look at Niao Niao twice let alone offer honorable marriage. Seriously, Madam had just doomed her daughter to either becoming a nun, or is she was very lucky she might have become a low-ranking concubine to some minor official or merchant dealing in Army supplies. I also caught Madam Cheng stating that her daughter would be likely to cause problems **that would bring down the whole family**. For good or for ill Madam is throwing her daughter under the bus to protect the family. IMO it was Very ill-done indeed.
The palace is a place of strict etiquette and formality which is bound to make Niao niao break rules and can be imprisoned or punished. Although she is kind and smart, she is unruly and does not obey commands which her mother tried to teach and failed, so her mother is scared NN will be trouble for herself and the whole family. In those days one person's actions can determine the lives of whole family and clan, dead or alive. The way her mom publicly admonished her, is so the king will retract his decree , as they can't decline.

Because of her gentle and generous nature the empress become the maternal figure that the young teenager needed so much. Her mother was horrible and if I did not see the actress in other work I would not like this actress based on this. A mother who never showed this child affection from the day she was born has not right to belittle her the way she did and when Naio Naio finally stood up for herself and left the house I was so happy. People who never met her fell in love with her and embraced her from the moment they met her and that is why she was so much better off with the Empress. Her mother was a failure to do this in front of people who has already scorned her daughter. Her father was reluctant to do this but did, I could forgive him, because he has shown her love but her mother no. The Emperor and Empress saw so much more in her in 5 seconds, where her mother saw nothing but a problem to be solved. If you know your child was being abused for the last 15 years you would think she would embrace that child and hold tight not her mother. She chose to give that to Yang Yang not her daughter and to bear witness to that made Naio more withdrawn and defensive against her mother.

The second piece of music playing in the background pairs extremely well with the Chinese music being played in the original series. It made it sound almost etherial. It made the whole thing feel like it was from a whole different world. The talent of these amazing actors/actresses brought it all together. I swear, these Chinese dramas are way better than the dramas available in the USA. Even though I can't understand a single strand of Chinese, I still like watching them.
Even Ling Buyi couldn't believe what Madam Cheng said. A marriage proposed between your daughter and the surrogate son of the Emperor BY THE EMPEROR HIMSELF and you...reject it? Belittle your own daughter in front of the Emperor, his wives, his children and the man who wants to marry her as she is?

Was there a reason explained as to why her parents were against her marrying the general? I feel like there was more than what was said here! Or maybe I am just missing something. I have watched the drama twice and I still don't understand that.
It’s because NN’s parents want her to live quietly and happily away from politics and the palace. Like the other quiet guy who NN was engaged with first. That, and because they are scared of Ling Buyi too. They thought he was too stiff. With NN’s temperament and stubborness, they think it won’t be a good match and just would always clash.
Even to keep their daughter out of potentially deadly palace politics, there had to be a better way than what Madam Cheng chose, to belittle her own child publicly in front of not just the royal family but all the members of high society listening in the side rooms. The harsh half-truths and full lies spewed by her own mother would have pretty much guaranteed that no man better than an illiterate inbred ignoramus pig farmer would ever be willing to look at Niao Niao twice let alone offer honorable marriage. Seriously, Madam had just doomed her daughter to either becoming a nun, or is she was very lucky she might have become a low-ranking concubine to some minor official or merchant dealing in Army supplies.
I also caught Madam Cheng stating that her daughter would be likely to cause problems **that would bring down the whole family**. For good or for ill Madam is throwing her daughter under the bus to protect the family. IMO it was Very ill-done indeed.
The palace is a place of strict etiquette and formality which is bound to make Niao niao break rules and can be imprisoned or punished. Although she is kind and smart, she is unruly and does not obey commands which her mother tried to teach and failed, so her mother is scared NN will be trouble for herself and the whole family. In those days one person's actions can determine the lives of whole family and clan, dead or alive. The way her mom publicly admonished her, is so the king will retract his decree , as they can't decline.
@@mskoki5712 what the mother was incapable of dowing the empress did in such a short time. The empress made sure to teach Niao the rules. Because of her gentle and generous nature the empress become the maternal figure that the young teenager needed so much. It's no wander that Niao loved the empress and respected her far more than her mother.
