FW Schnaar agree! I was watching for it as well. Nice to see the really built rigs play, but for most of us, 35-37”s will be all we run. Great video as usual👍
Glad to see the video come out. I've been curious about your thoughts. We were a week ahead of you guys doing the Dusy. Interesting how the trail is viewed. Some things agreed and some opinions differing which you commented on that people may have different views. We did two nights at Ershim Lake, hiking, canoeing, fishing and hanging out. Width and clearance definitely a factor. You have to always be on your toes (paying attention) with turns tight trees and rocks, off camber. Some of the wider rigs had a harder time in tight areas. Bigger tires and more clearance with short wheel base did better over boulder fields. I would have agreed with the thought about the trailer, however one our guys with a T.J. pulled a Jeep military trailer and made it with no... incident. Kind of funny how many of your descriptions were similar to ours. No straps or winches used on our trip. Views were beautiful! We enjoyed the trip! Keep it safe. OlllllllO
I remember doing this trail in my new 79 Golden Eagle CJ-7, 33" tires (big at the time) 304 V8, and 3 speed on the floor. This after the Rubicon seemed fairly mild.
the four-wheel drive Club I was in did that trail i believe it was in 1990 most of us had 33 inch tires. I think the biggest were 35. Myself I had a Jeep YJ 3 lift limited slip in the rear and 33 x 9.50s BFG AT's none of us had much of a problem at all on the trail I enjoyed the scenery.
Met a a guy at EJS this year that pulled a built trailer thru the Rubicon, with rooftop tent. I get it...less is more...i wouldn't do it, but it can be done. Awesome video. Been a while. Sucks that you have to ask for a limit of people to come out, but completely understood...really cool a slightly modified on 35s made it thru with you. If on your runs you always included someone that might be underbuilt, it would definitely help us that live way out east, pick the places we want to go. Also helps spotlight the importance of building bigger, and more importantly, driver knowledge and GREAT spotting. Good stuff👍 I'll be adding the dusey just because
I was wondering if there's any reason to not just delete that little 2nd battery. Somebody went to some effort to design that circuitry so must be some reason for it. If Kevin can just swap in a jumper...?
I am just not that hard core of a 4x4'er to do many of the trails y'all do and it's not because I run a Tacoma that is ill equipped. Ran the Rubicon, Fordyce, Holly Cross and many others back in the 80's with my trusty old 77 Scout, that was enough for me. I am content to watch your video's now days, so please keep it up and don't forget to include Jelly. ROCK ON! P.S. Doing all the improvements I am now doing on the Tacoma is kicking my ass. Laying on the garage floor at 67 doing all this I find is a challenge and I don't think I will be wanting to keep doing this if I go out and tear things up. Just simply can not afford to have a shop do it all and my body says enough already.
Dusy-Ershim! LOVE that trail! 1,000% my favorite! Thompson Hill... oh man. ☠️ But the fishing! 🎣 Rainbow trout, butter, lemon, salt, pepper... fantastic!!!
Thanks again for some great "on the trail" content, even thought we really miss jelly! Hope you wont forget about those of us that can't subscibe to the new E3 offfroad.
When I saw that "56 minute" tag at the beginning, I thought, "Whoa! Brittany will have her work cut out for her on this one! She did an excellent job as usual. Thanks Brittany!!
Thank God you warned me about taking a trailer. Did the Dusy in 2005 in my '70 Bronco on 33's towing a trailer. I didn't know there were ways around the obstacles.
You two are literally tugging on my heart with the trees and jeeps. Kevin thanks for pointing out the tree savers when using a winch. You can see all of the beauties that trees bring along with their cool characteristic. It’s ok I’m. A tree doctor....... I have my PHTree ( dad joke for the win) lol love the videos thanks again 🤘🏻
That’s great! Strange trees, a lot of dusty rocks, super tight turning... As always, amazing video... I’m in San Luis Obispo right now, it’s not so far from Fresno, the thing is my Land Rover Defender 110 is still in Italy so so far from here... So I cannot have the privilege, and of course the pleasure to follow that amazing red Jeep through this gorgeous trails... Your channel is rapidly growing up and your video are so much better every time you make them... I hope a day to meet you somewhere in the USA, with my brand new Rubicon 4 doors and live with you and all the other off-road enthusiasts, the experiences you share in every single video in your outstanding channel... Your collection of videos is like a beautiful romance, divided in thousands of beautiful and unique chapters... keep filming, keep sharing, keep living this amazing adventure 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️
A group of Rovers from NCLR ran the Dusy probably a couple weeks before this was shot. D110 HCPU on 37s, D1 on 37s (me), P38 on 35s, and RRC on 33s. Other than a broken motor mount in the RRC at the bottom of Walker Hill and the HCPU scraping the drain plug off the rear Salisbury and dumping all the oil no major issues, but I think every one touched bodywork on a tree at some point. One lost a mirror and a couple lost tail lights. I agree largely with the assessment though - not nearly the obstetrical compared to the Rubicon but the length and constant tight squeezes make it tough and slow going. And yes, the north end is the better end.
Awesome video...love the long ones....great trail with great people...wonderful scenery...great ridges to handle a great trail....Jelly a no show (😥), kray Kevin faces (🤣😎)..Brittany (great spoting and great editing👍😁)...everly looking forward to your next videos... Safe travels
Nice group of rigs on that trip; better than a string of 30, and no one was driving crazy. I can't comprehend how first settlers got across all that with horses and wagons! Ugggh....
Ha! No offence but when we started doing the Dusy 25-30 years ago, a 35 was huge and most were open differentials. The reason it's considered hard is if you have to go out for parts, it will take you a day to get out and a day to get back in. I'm a little disappointed you didn't give a little history on the trail and about the pioneer 4-wheelers who petitioned Congress to create a trail that splits 2 wilderness areas (John Muir and Dinkey Lakes). Please give credit where credit is due. Don Dobson, Glen Emery and John Skadden wheeled surplus military Jeeps and built this trail. It seems this video is more about how disappointed you were that you weren't pushed to the limit. If that's all you wheel for, you're missing the point. Slow down and take in the scenery. Oh! Those pit toilets you enjoyed at Ershim Lake, yeah I hauled one of those in on a trailer from the top. No big deal.
LCOwner the pit toilets were great 👍 One big problem is the main one at ershim lake is very very full and we were told it won’t be pumped at all. Not sure what the plan is but that one needs to be locked down soon. We just didn’t care for how slow paced this trail was. It was just bumpy and not our flavor. Not every trail can be our favorite and people like different things. This was just not something we’d ever go back to. There are much better trails we’ve been on in other places we’d rather spend our time on. I think the biggest problem is the information online states that this trail is 3-7 times harder then the rubicon which made us think it was going to be challenging. If the stage wasn’t set like that we wouldn’t have had those expectations that weren’t met at all. If the published info never stated those things then we would have gone in with a different mind set. I think from now on we won’t research the trails anymore so there are no expectations
@@boughtnotbuiltoffroad7784the adopting club Hill Hoppers will probably coordinate with the USFS and relocate it. It's up to them to spot a new location.
I completely agree, this area is so beautiful with alot of history that they seemed to not really care about or mention. I go to this area for the scenery, camping, fishing, hiking and the offroading is more of a added bonus to me than anything. I guess it just comes down to what your there for.
Am jealous of you guys. You are doing trails that I will never have a chance to do. So, enjoy, cherish, even the simpler trails, and be safe (as you can) on the trails. As I hope to see many more of these videos in the years to come... And hello from NE Okla.
You spelled Dusy wrong... it’s not really about the difficulty, it’s about the length, scenery, and distance from help. You want hard and scenic, you have to run Fordyce. Also those pro-comp xterme mt’s seem to grip better than your Patagonia’s.
I hiked the northernmost 3 miles of that trail recently, wow! It was amazing to hike it, driving it looked mind blowing. Grats on the achievement. And for you hikers out there, check this trail out! Even a dayhike out-n-back a few miles yields amazing views, starting from Kaiser Pass Road.
You two are rocking.... we just ordered our first JEEP and thx for all the things we learn already just following you.... greetings from Europe Sicily Italy 🇮🇹
Its 3am and my 4 yr old daughter has a bad cough 🤧 nothing a little honey , lite bright can't cure. Thanks for the content, and another beautiful trail. Happy Crawling 🤙👍
After 130+ comments, I am NOT surprised by how many people were concerned about Jelly. Your dog has developed a following and may need her own channel. LiteBrite, E3, JellyCam! Ha Ha Ha Ha JELLY!
No joke!! Haha She was with us, but we had to put her in her carrier in the back for most of the trail - she didn’t like being banging noises too much. 🥺🥺 And I wasn’t gonna walk 33 miles with her. 😅
Your videos up to Jan 2018 helped me decide to put 35" MS Pat MT's on my daughters JKS back then. We have been so happy with them I'll be putting 37" MS Pat MT's on my 18 JLUR. They sound like rubber bands going over everything. Low tire pressure is key I think to letting them stretch and conform to avoid tearing or puncturing. I'm excited to see how they perform at Windrock TN next April.
@Lite Brite You two make such a great couple, and I bet you're a blast to wheel with. Hopefully you two make it to Tucson sometime and get a group going...I'd love to tag along in my bitty TJ..lol.
Ahh this video helped I was going to slip south to try it while at the rubicon and noticed it doesn’t open till august in the last few mins of your video.. thanks
Went up the first part of this in my 3/4 ton crew cab diesel when I lived there!! Wish I had a Jeep the 4 years I lived in Cali, would have been awesome!!
Haha i've got a 'yota myself....my 33s and Bilstein kit can handle the mountain trails and water crossings of GA but IFS has nothing on a jeep's ability to climb rocks.
Yeah, I've got a 5th gen 4Runner, and while they're definitely capable for the mild overlanding type off-roading, they're definitely not in the same category as Jeeps.
@@boughtnotbuiltoffroad7784 Dont think I would do it again rather do Rubicon. We ran it in two days as it was super cold at night. broke my rear driveshaft 1/2 mile from the end and drove home with front wheel drive, now upgraded to Adams
I recently ran the Dusy in my gladiator solo, not the smartest move, but made it out. Went south to north same way y’all did. The length of the gladiator definitely made it more complicated and difficult. I’m glad I did it, but I’m only doing it once lol.
Always respect tracks but i dont have lockers so its all about picking lines which makes mild feel like wild more often than not. Thu.bs up to your comment. Treat tracks right will keep them open
Hello! And thanks for visiting the Dusy! And fixing the spelling! You're right! The Dusy Ershim trail is super easy! Boring in fact! Don't waste your time coming back, the rubicon is MUCH harder since the re-model! Seems more appropriate for the Lite Brite Hello Kitty don't scratch the paint or lose the checkbook crew! Have an nice day! OOH! And don't forget to send your money to the LITE BRITE Patreon Page! Dana axles aren't free! I run a Dana 25, and who-whe, parts aren't cheap!
@@boughtnotbuiltoffroad7784 Actually it's not "upgrading the big battery." It's a full replacement of both batteries and a management system. I'll send you the link to your FB.
This will be the first year i haven't done Dusy since i bought my JKU in 08 So far my most favorite trail, normally spend two nights at Ershim lake 9080 ft.
I just did the Rubicon wire a 4 man roof top tent on a 04 jeep grand cherokee with my 3 kids and wife , we will be doing this trail next. O and I have 31 inch tires. If I knew how to post a pic on this thread I would. But I this you guy are just complacent with extreme trails this trail is rated 8 to 10 . Man would have loved to go with you guys. O and just a thought your tires are huge so what is really fun or a obstacle? Ran into a guy on the Rubicon that had 47 and when I asked if it was even fun he Paused and literally said one part of the trailwas fun , So food for thought, I love having to drive my 31s it is more of a challenge. Great video by the way!
Just a FYI it's spelled Dusy-Ershim but it's OK !!!! Awesome to see the beautiful Sierra's anyway I used to hike that trail when I lived in California. Things us dumb Jarheads do for fun !!!!
You should pull the clip about the secondary battery and post it separately. In case anybody is in a pickle and searches for some keywords on the title and can come up.
I'd have taken my first gen 4runner out and shown you around dusy, there are some great spots to stop on the first 2 days that makes those days worth it. there are some great lakes, pools and hiking trails to see pretty close to the trails, great fishing and even a spring that bubbles up from the ground right off the trail to refill your water. Like you said though it's a tech trail, so much steering, but it's perfect for toyotas with dual cases and ultra slow crawl ratios my favorite trail besides swamp lake.
The Dusy was a tougher trail before big rigs and overbuild rock crawlers leveled it out and created new, easier lines. And there’s more to Dusy than trail, but you have to read maps, get out, explore on foot to figure it out.
SwimFlySwim if there is more to the dusy besides the trail that is absolutely fantastic. As far as it being a trail, we were very disappointed. It just knocks you around for 3 days
I agree with your grain of salt. The latter of the trail was better. I missed Jelly belle running around but I get it, she was safer in with Kev. A lot of bad sports for her. Love the videos B
I know the trail wasn't much to your liking, but it sure looked gorgeous. I think that on your trek through all of the JBoH trails some are just going to be scenic drives for The Stepchild (though this one looked tougher than that). Not all of 'em can be rocker wreckers.
Jason Ethridge that wasn’t the issue. It was just more annoying. You basically can’t ever go over 1mph at any point and you are just being knocked around for 3 days
@@boughtnotbuiltoffroad7784 I think I'd enjoy hiking many of the trails you guys take your Jeep on. I can easily maintain 1mph on foot, and it saves me building a Jeep. lol
Looked like fun . Hard to believe I grew up in the Fresno and Clovis area and never went on that trail. Now I wonder how many others I never went on down there.
Preaching about using a tree saver when wenching....but how do you justify scrubbing and cutting into the trees that you squeezed between (especially when there is a go-around). Scrubbing off 40” of the bark on one side of the truck seems to be equally damaging. I may be missing something obvious, just trying to understand the difference.
HEY !!!! Ya’ll really need to pickup a DJI osmo Pocket and start using that to film with your phone, combine the two..... get 4K HD pro quality video ...... it’s small, it’s CHEAP, compared to other 4K cameras ...... and it’s just BETTER. Just do it.
Shaver Lake??? Really??? and you didn't stop by so Jack and Dianne could play with Jelly??? Awesome video! You should come back in the winter and do that trail in the snow!
You guys are so cute. The term was Popular in the 1930s: “That’s a real Duzy”. It comes from the automobile brand Duesenberg, which was the finest car in the world at that time. It meant something was the best or the gnarliest. It became common for people to use duzy as a superlative.

Just did the Dusy last weekend and it is not hard at all but beat us up arms and hands. did it and done!
Mickey Temple did you like it? I sure didn’t
@@boughtnotbuiltoffroad7784 Dont think I would do it again rather do Rubicon. We ran it in two days as it was super cold at night. broke my rear driveshaft 1/2 mile from the end and drove home with front wheel drive, now upgraded to Adams
Now I see why you stay so nicely fir Brittany , all that walking around and climbing those hills :)
I recently ran the Dusy in my gladiator solo, not the smartest move, but made it out. Went south to north same way y’all did. The length of the gladiator definitely made it more complicated and difficult. I’m glad I did it, but I’m only doing it once lol.
Those Pringles almost turned into a Veggie straws situation, thank goodness for the cardboard tube 🤣
🤣🤣🤣
Great trip with really nice people (and Jelly)!
Indeed great peeps! I loved it too Art and hope to wheel with you and Brian again.
The trees you showed reminded me of the Indian trail marker trees that I have seen in other areas.
No lockers and leave swaybar connected will liven up any track. Love your work. Shiny side up 👍
I think no lockers would mostly tear up the trail, by digging deep holes in the dirt. Tread lightly my friends.
I run a Dana 25, and who-whe, parts aren't cheap!
thanks for the battery fix... I'm looking at the Genesis 2x bat system in the future.
M C upgrading the big battery doesn’t fix the issue with the small start stop battery. You still have to remove/bypass the small battery
@@boughtnotbuiltoffroad7784 Actually it's not "upgrading the big battery." It's a full replacement of both batteries and a management system. I'll send you the link to your FB.
Outstanding video! Awesome scenery.
Just finished the video with Laxatives and Hip Thrusts. Goodnight y’all! 🤣👍🏼
Any day on the trail is a good day.
Ran into a guy on the Rubicon that had 47 and when I asked if it was even fun he Paused and literally said one part of the trailwas fun ,
So food for thought, I love having to drive my 31s it is more of a challenge.
Great video by the way!
Just a FYI it's spelled Dusy-Ershim but it's OK !!!! Awesome to see the beautiful Sierra's anyway I used to hike that trail when I lived in California. Things us dumb Jarheads do for fun !!!!
FYI, it’s Sierra. It’s not plural.
OooRah!
Hooah!
You should pull the clip about the secondary battery and post it separately. In case anybody is in a pickle and searches for some keywords on the title and can come up.
I watch this and wonder how I would do it in my manual JL. Love the trails. Keep em coming!
You need to do a video compilation of Kevin's shenanigans lol
If I would've known I would've repped the Toyotas. I armored up my FJ specifically for the Rubicon.
The videos keep getting better and better!!
You guys ever thought about a roof top tent or maybe a trailer.
Jeff Linstead lol 😂 shush
I didn't see Jelly in this whole video. I'm sadddened by this...
I too am sad with the lack of Jelly
I agree !!!
Jelly please!!!!
Have you done Johnson Valley and the Hammers yet. You should go do that. You'll love it.
Randy Peterson yup we have
The girls face at 30:30 when they came down on the rear bumper had me rolling 😂
I know the end feeling as far as this trail, but so should have put my name in the hat to be part of it just to check it off the list.
Not sure if anyone explained the trees to you already but it was a way the native americans would tie the tree down to help aid in navigation.
i missed this one! this is our backyard! The Dusy is awesome
The first 8sec i played over and over and over again..hilarious
I'd have taken my first gen 4runner out and shown you around dusy, there are some great spots to stop on the first 2 days that makes those days worth it. there are some great lakes, pools and hiking trails to see pretty close to the trails, great fishing and even a spring that bubbles up from the ground right off the trail to refill your water. Like you said though it's a tech trail, so much steering, but it's perfect for toyotas with dual cases and ultra slow crawl ratios my favorite trail besides swamp lake.
It’s about time some Fresno native is off Roading, thank you guys. What about Buck Rock Jeep Trail, Kings Canyon National Forest
U guys should ditch that motorcycle battery and upgrade to a dual battery system. You definitely have good reason to with the places you go
The Dusy was a tougher trail before big rigs and overbuild rock crawlers leveled it out and created new, easier lines. And there’s more to Dusy than trail, but you have to read maps, get out, explore on foot to figure it out.
SwimFlySwim if there is more to the dusy besides the trail that is absolutely fantastic. As far as it being a trail, we were very disappointed. It just knocks you around for 3 days
on the sidewall issues
westcoast rocks are a little more smooth eastcoast is sharp rocks and hitting at speed
I agree with your grain of salt. The latter of the trail was better. I missed Jelly belle running around but I get it, she was safer in with Kev. A lot of bad sports for her. Love the videos B
that battery trick only applies to the 3.6L.... the 2.0 does not have a secondary battery under the fuse panel. it's the 48V pack in the back.
Good to know because I have the 2.0. Hate to be out by myself in the woods and it dont start. But no problems after 15000 yet.
Correct!
Kevin Williams Ooh yeah, I can see where that would get old. But it still looked pretty!
@@boughtnotbuiltoffroad7784 I think I'd enjoy hiking many of the trails you guys take your Jeep on. I can easily maintain 1mph on foot, and it saves me building a Jeep. lol
*Crunch*
Lite brite:There you go
Looked like fun . Hard to believe I grew up in the Fresno and Clovis area and never went on that trail. Now I wonder how many others I never went on down there.
beautiful trails thanks for taking us along..
Love your Chanel I wish we got a little more footage of Jelly, your dog is the cutest.😄👍
Just do it.
Very cool! This trail is definitely on my list, as long as there are some good challenging spots I think it’s worth it.
TJ Mitchell Films we wouldn’t ever go back again.
Kevin Williams that’s a bummer I had heard good things about the trail. I’ll take your word for it and spare myself
TJ Mitchell Films I wouldn’t recommend it unless you just like being abused for 3 days with very little obstacles
Shaver Lake??? Really??? and you didn't stop by so Jack and Dianne could play with Jelly??? Awesome video! You should come back in the winter and do that trail in the snow!
Looks like i gotta bring out JT here :)
Looks like a great trail for guys like me that are finally getting a rig together after raising 4 kids. Sorta like a beginner's trail
New tee-shirt idea (15:31). “We’re Kevin and Brittany. We do stupid stuff”. You’ll. Sell a million units. 😃
Still looks like a good time was had by all. And thanks for the tips!
You guys are so cute. The term was Popular in the 1930s: “That’s a real Duzy”. It comes from the automobile brand Duesenberg, which was the finest car in the world at that time. It meant something was the best or the gnarliest. It became common for people to use duzy as a superlative.
Did the Dusy 15ish years ago in a YJ with a bikini top. Loved it .👍
Looked like a great trail. Great video.
