Difference between CBSE, ICSE, IGCSE, IB and State Board
With the Beginning of admissions’ season across cities in India, parents face dilemma as which board would fit best for their young ones.
India Schools offer both Indian and International Syllabi namely:
1. CBSE: Central Board of Secondary Education
2. CISCE: Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE)
3. IB: International Baccalaureate
4. IGCSE: International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) Cambridge University
5. State Board:State Government Recognized Board
Let’s consider each one of them….
A. CBSE Central Board of Secondary Education
A Board which follows universal pattern is the first choice for parents with transferable jobs.
CBSE affiliates all Kendriya Vidyalayas, all Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, private schools, and most of the schools approved by central government of India
Examination Pattern: All India Senior School Certificate Examination (AISSCE) for Class 10 and 12
Facts
Total Number of Schools Affiliated with CBSE: 14808
Areas of Operation: 25 Countries including India, Malaysia, Dubai etc
Major entrance exams syllabus based on CBSE viz. IIT, AIPMT etc
Pros
1) The diversity factor in schools with CBSE board is high as more students from different backgrounds are likely to end up in the same class.
2) Quality of Content (No Errors/ No Printing Mistakes) in Textbooks’ is good.
3) Continuous And Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), a new system of education implemented by CBSE for students of sixth to tenth grades. It removes the marking system and introduces grading system based on a series of curricular and extracurricular activities.
4) Easy to find tutors, books and activities for all classes.
5) Focus on Science and Mathematics as well as application based subjects.
6) Recognition by all colleges in India.
7) Centralized system for transferring across all CBSE schools.
8) Numerous talent search examinations and scholarship exams such as SSTSE, NSEB, NSEC etc held at local and national level base their content on CBSE syllabus just because it is more prevalent.
Cons
1) Although Major Entrance Exams syllabus is based on CBSE, the fact that the seats for those courses are open for all students in India. And colleges which are coming under state universities have more reserved seats for students from state boards. So students from CBSE board who wouldn’t crack entrance exams face problems in getting admission in state university colleges as they have very less number of seats for CBSE Board quota.
2) Fees can be on the high side for some schools.
3) There aren’t enough options to explore in the field of Arts and Literature
B. CISCE Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE)
Examination Pattern: This body conducts 3 examinations, namely
• ICSE (Indian certificate secondary education) exam for class 10
• ISC (Indian school certificate) exam for class 12
• CVE (Certificate for vocational education) exam for class 12
Facts
• Total Number of Schools Affiliated with CISCE: Approx. 1000
• Areas of Operation: India, UAE, Singapore, Indonesia
• Subjects Offered ICSE in 2013-64 with 23 Indian languages and 12 are foreign languages.
• Subjects Offered ISC in 2013- 50 with 23 Indian languages and 12 are foreign languages.
Pros
1. Course curriculum is wide, covering a range of topics to explore overall growth of students.
2. CISCE prefers to give more practical Knowledge and focus more on analytical skills.
3. Subject selection options available to students to follow their liking for a particular subject.
4. The CISCE board has equal focus on languages, science and art and encourages students to choose across diverse topics / subjects for their Class-12 exam.
Cons
1. Students may find syllabus a bit cumbersome.
2. Students would find it hard to shift to other boards or Pre-Science Colleges (11-12 Standards)
3. Higher Fees

Masha Allah . Good information . l passed from CBSE , All lndia Exam . Easier paper , more marks . Covers syllabus of competitive exams . But , superficial knowledge cannot beat a competition ( you need extra books ). But , still i like CBSE because of its easiness and universality .

CAIE is the best, I mean Cambridge. It's tougher than all other board you have mentioned, infact it is considered to be the toughest board in the world. But it has many advantages. First, students are free to choose which ever subject they want, regardless any combination. Second, In AS and A level ( class 11 and 12) students are free to choose as many subject they want keeping the minimum as 2 subject with any combination. Third, students get to learn and research much more than any of the board. Forth, student can take the board exam anytime they want. There are three sessions throughout the year. Fifth, if a student fails then the student can re take the examination as many times as he/she wants without repeating the year. Sixth, if a student gets good marks in class 11 boards (ASL) ,he/she can directly apply for University without taking class 12 exam. Infact, if a student have a good marks in class 10 (IGCSE), without taking class 11 and 12 exam student can apply for University in many cases. Seventh, it's not mandatory to take all the exam at once, like it happens in all other boards. Student can take one exam at a time. Eighth, its not necessary to study for complete 2 years and then take the board exam. After taking the course for 1 year or 6 months, etc if a student feels confident enough to take the examination, he/she can. In this case its more time saving. Ninth, there are now many schools in India offering CAIE, in almost all the states, leaving for the rural areas.
There are many more advantages of taking CAIE. Please be more informative in the next video. There are now many national and international students who opt taking Cambridge.

An offshoot of the Cambridge IGCSE that existed during the British regime was taken over by the Anglo Indian Board and is now governed by the 'Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations'. ICSE has taken in a lot of structures from the NCERT. At Grade 10, it is as of now is the toughest board examination.
We. All should remember that our APJ , Ramanujan , CV Raman , and so on ,all of them studied in state board . And bought a great legacy to India . So it is not important where we study. it is all about how we study . But the most agonizingthing is now a days education is becoming commercialsing.

So what u don't want that the Education system should improve. If CBSE, ICSE, IB AND IGCSE provides us better education then why the hell we will choose state board which doesn't has any standards!
And first of all the I may mention that though the people like APJ Abdul Kalam and CV Raman studied from state board, but that doesn't bothers to what they did in their life! Today they are regoniszed by their work they have done, for which they had to do lots of hardwork. And mind u if they would have got better education system like ICSE or even CBSE and then it could have been their plus points in their life in some or the other way!
And the next thing is if u better see the world of today, u will find that most of the business that is been happening in the education system that is been done by the state board not by the other boards, especially by the Maharashtra board of education.
After they introduced SSC AND HSC they education system has totally demolished! There is no growth in education and it's just wastage of time!
So its better to opt SSC and choose other boards.

Well , ICSE students have more knowledge than CBSE ones. Their speaking skills are better and also the syllabus is wide . The only thing I think CBSE is better at is "MATHS".

After a lot of search...i got such a lovely required video...
In short, CBSE and other Indian boards focus on memorising information to vomit on answer sheet. Secondly, Indian boards are addicted to too much tests and exams. Memorising facts, figures and formulas and vomiting them on answer sheets. When you can’t understand anything in school, you also spend extra money on tuitions and coaching classes.
While international boards like IB & IGCSE focus on practically applying the knowledge. You can choose subjects of your choice. While maths, English, science are compulsory subjects, you can also choose a foreign language of your choice. But choosing any foreign language is compulsory. Also, during exams, you are provided with calculators & booklets containing formulas and constants to apply them practically. And there is no need to take any tuition.

Btw, Mathematics and the sciences and not mandatory, nor are foreign languages in Igcse. The only restriction is to opt for 5 subjects and English.
@@vinithavinoth3665 it is called as A levels after IGCSE. After studying IGCSE or A levels, it will be much more difficult to prep for NEET. If you are planning study in other countries, it’s best to opt for IGCSE or IB.

IB is the best (yes I’m an IB student but I used to be in ICSE till 10th.) Its an amazing board and honestly the best as instead of just memorisation it encourages free thought and open interpretation in every subject.

That is all completely wrong! International Baccalaureate provides history about India and World. It is not like IB program is bad students to understand HISTORY. I go to an IB world school in Pune which give me history about the world also and of India. First clear your facts and then talk about the information of International Baccalaureate. You don't know what IB means also.

I simply cannot believe that they just implied that the A-Levels are more difficult than IB Diploma Programme.
Hahaha. People need to do their research. It's a common misconception that because IB is so well-rounded in its curriculum,there is no depth. We're doing frigging research! And to those people who think their math is more difficult than IB math, RIP, because our math is the most difficult but also the most enjoyable!
