Great list and wonderful looking edition of The Godfather! I have an Ian Rogers chapbook that I picked up this fall (Black-Eyed Kids) so glad to hear a Canadain author mentioned - and yup, we do say 'eh'.

Nice! Stories set in Canada are a nice change, too. I like the authors setting stories somewhere besides the usual cities.

So sad I missed out on the Numbered Godfather, it looks so good and I see it's a great book as well.
I discovered about fine press books in 2024 and because of that I also almost missed out on Boy's Life by Suntup and A Child Alone by Lividian, but fortunately I got lucky and could order both Boy's Life from Lividian and A Child Alone from SST at a later date.
It's great to see your 2024 ranking and I am really looking forwards to start reading Ian Rogers given all the good reviews he gets, I have both Family and Sycamore from him up on my TBR. In 2024, I discovered Philip Fracassi and A Child Alone is definitely an excellent read and I am also looking forward to start reading the Third Rule limited by Phantasia Press (and Sarafina from Earthling as well). Also, I started to read Blake Crouch in 2024, Dark Matter, and it was an excellent story with something similar to time travel (but not exactly the same) so it makes me twice as excited as I would normally be to start reading The Third Rule, 11-22-63 (from PS-Publishing) and other Blake Crouch's books, especially the Pine trilogy.
Like it is the case with you already, it seems that limited edition books will become for me a very good way to find new authors that I would otherwise not be thinking about. Therefore, I was wondering, what would be your favorite fine presses of 2024? For me Earthling Publications would easily be at the top followed by Suntup and then Lividian, SST and Centipede Press to finish my top 5 (Phantasia Press would be near in the ranking as well I assume, but I have yet to start reading one of their limited edition books). Earthling is so great I think because their books are relatively affordable (and high quality) and I love their concept of publishing a book for the first time in a limited edition. It's a great way to discover new authors.
P.S.: Also, thank you for adding La Planète des Singes to my reading list, it's one of the classics in France (I am French) and it feels like a shame that I haven't read it yet haha! The problem now is that my TBR is way too big already!

You have listed some great books and great publishers. Bravo!
Do you read French? I wonder if the French version is better than the English translation. It seems like it would be tough to accurately translate expressions and cultural idiosyncrasies. The English version that I read was fabulous, but I still wonder if it was as good as it was in its original form.

@@itsterrificYes, I read French, it's my native tongue so for me it's much easier to read than English (it flows better mostly, as I don't need to translate as much vocabulary). Though we don't have as many quality fine presses in my opinion in France unfortunately. I will read the Planet of the Apes in French soon since you got me interested in it so I can let you know (don't have the Folio Society version though). However, I would assume the translated version is probably not as good. It's rare when the translated version is as good as the original. One case when a translation was considered as good as the original is Beaudelaire translating Edgar Poe in French for example but I am not sure about Planet of the Apes since I don't really know the translator. Beaudelaire was a very skilled translator not only because he was mastering the English language well but also because he is a great poet and for him it was easy to translate Edgar Poe into something interesting in French. Though I guess this is an exception as most translators are probably not as skilled as Beaudelaire and sometimes it can be very hard to translate some idioms from French to English and vice versa (I know this from reading Stephen King in both French and English and some of the stuff can be very hard to translate into French and I assume if it is the case then it must also be the case when translating from French to English)

I also finally read Planet of the Apes. It would possibly just scrape into my top 20.
    My top 5 of 2024:
1 The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep (H G Parry)
2 How High we go in the Dark (Sequoia Nagamatsu)
3 My Brother's Keeper (Tim Powers)
4 The Midnight Library (Matt Haig)
5 Slaughterhouse 5 (Kurt Vonnegut Jr).

Tim, I agree with trusting Paul for choosing authors. I see the Carved and Swayback chapbooks on top of others. Hopefully, Mitch will sell slipcases to shelve and organize his awesome editions.

Sycamore has a line that I thought had to be from a Trailer Park Boys episode. I mentioned it in my review video for that book. Ian later told me that it was.😁

I almost hate watching your videos because I will have to get some of these books now, which is not technically a bad thing, but I can't stop from buying them. But yes, I will read a few of them. Thanks for furthering my book addiction sir. Any goals for 2025?

Thanks, Michael. I have plenty of general goals. Mainly to keep the life things going in a good direction. Reading goal for last year was 50 books and I beat it, but it was a good number for me, so I’ll keep 2025 at 50.
Pumping up my reading time would mean time would mean less time elsewhere. If I do, I do, but I don’t want to force it.
